AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Switching To Model Space Hangs

Dec 2, 2011

I am having some troubles with Civil 3d.  I went from a 32-bit windows XP machine with 4 gigs of ram and a dual core 2.8 GHz processor with an older radeon graphics card to a 64-bit windows 7 machine with 16 gigs of ram, core i7-2600 (3.4 GHz) quad core processor, and an nvidia quadro 4000 2GB graphics card and I thought my life would be easy.  But apparently great hardware will not solve all of my software issues.

When I try to switch to model space from paper space in C3D 2012 (sp1) it hangs for maybe 5 minutes before finally switching over. I have only worked on two drawings with the new machine, but it does it on both.  And not every time, just half the time in one drawing and most of the time in the other.

Any setvar or something that I can use?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Variable For Label Expressions

Aug 6, 2012

Often we need to collect our topographic/boundary data using a state plane grid, but we still need to label property lines using the recoded deed bearings.  We have a style with an expression set up to apply this rotation to lines and a similar one set up for curves.  Is there a way to store this rotation and have both expressions look up the value from one place?

I am worried that I will type in the angle for the line labels and then forget to type it in for the curve labels, or maybe the angle is typed in correctly in one expression but incorrectly in the other.  If it was typed in once, then even if it was wrong, at least the labels would be consistent and correct relative to each other.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Subassembly - Variable Earthwork Slopes Beyond Alignments?

Nov 29, 2013

I just want to start by saying I have been extremely impressed with the speed and effectiveness of finding Civil 3D solutions through this forum. However I do not think there is a way to solve the problem below without making a custom sub assembly.

There is a common problem that I run into when modelling earthworks on airfields. All Taxiways and Runways will have sepirate areas that determine the slope of earthworks in that area. As an example I will explain my problem for a Runway.

Any ruwnay will have a Strip area (150m offset from its centreline) and a Clear and Graded area (105m offset from its centreline). Therefore any earthwork slopes between the runway pavement edge and 105m offset from the centreline will be determined by the requirements within the Clear and Graded Area. Likewise any earthwork slopes between 105m and 150m offsets from the centreline will be determined by the requirements of the Strip area.

My problem is that when overlaying a runway, the new earthworks required may extend beyond the clear and graded area (and into the strip) at some points but not in others.

Therefore I would like a sub assembly that does earthworks at a set slope unless it passes the clear and graded line where it would then continue the earthworks using a different slope. It should be pointed out that the clear and graded line will be present along the entire length of the runway and the earthworks may or may not extend beyond it.

Just for the sake of clarity, when I say earthworks, I mean the subassembly within autocad that will "Cut or Fill" at a set slope until it reaches a chosen surface level. Similarly the "clear and graded line" and "strip line" are 2D and mearly delineate the areas in plan.

save time and make my model more dynamic. As it stands I have been getting around this problem by modelling the earthworks at the initial slope (clear and graded area) and then manually amending the corridor to use a different assembly where the earthworks extend beyond the clear and graded line.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Subassembly Composer - Variable Ditch Bottom With Slope And Delta Y

Oct 22, 2012

I'm trying to build the ditch portion of my Subassembly backwards from an offset target "DitchOffset". The elevation of this point should be derived from a point that is using Slope and Delta Y from point "P12" (see attached). Must be at least 1m from the bottom of SubBase with a 5:1 slope.

The Ditch Bottom will be variable width. I'd like to be able to select my offset alignment for my ditch bottom. Have a link from this point extend at a slope to the Target Surface to complete the foreslope.

I can't quite picture how to complete the links from the DitchOffset point. This may be complicated but the diagram identify what I'm trying to do.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Switching Layout Tabs By Clicking On The Tabs?

Sep 19, 2013

issues switching layout tabs by clicking on the tabs?

Occasionally, clicking the Model or other layout tab results in no action, as if I'm not clicking on it.

All other controls (within and external to C3D) function normally so it's not a mouse hardware issue.

It will usually correct itself if I "restore down" the main application window, then maximize it again.

The -layout command is a workaround too.

GIMP :: Unbound Variable Error With No Variable?

Nov 5, 2013

I'm attempting to write a batch script to add some layers to a pre-existing image and save a copy. I've gone through the tutorial, and have run the demo code from Basic_Batch with no errors, but my (what I think of as simple) script throws an "Error: eval: unbound variable: ?" It also seems to cascade the error to other scripts, as I then get "unmatched parentheses: 2" errors from what I assume to be the script immediately following my own during Script-Fu load. This occurs whether running from batch or clicking "Refresh Scripts" from the Script-Fu menu.

What I could find on this forum and Google suggests that I may be required to 'define' one or more of my variables before using it, but for the life of me, I can't figure out which one that would be, and the error (reporting that '?' is undefined!?) I've quintuply (probably more ~_^) checked my parenthesis matching, but they look fine to me.

In case this was an encoding issue, I've tried saving my .scm file as both UTF-8 and ANSI. I should also note that I'm running Windows 7 x64 in English-US.

Script:

(define (script-fu-build-imagebasefilemytext)(let*((image (car (gimp-file-load RUN-NONINTERACTIVE basefile basefile)))(drawable (car (gimp-image-get-active-layer image)))(title (car (gimp-text-layer-new image mytext "Courier" 18 UNIT-POINT))))(gimp-image-add-layer image title -1)(gimp-image-clean-all image)(gimp-file-save RUN-NONINTERACTIVE image drawable "K:\\Images\\Temp.gif" "Temp.gif")));

Since I intend for this script to only be run from batch, I haven't bothered including the typical register stuff.

I also tried to start a new drawing and copied the drawing to the new file, it worked before i imported the drawing but after, everything was mm again. I used copy with base point to transfer the drawing to the new file. Where else would that be controlled from.

AutoCAD Architecture :: 2011 Switching Drawings By Itself?

Apr 8, 2011

Several users here in my office have been having a strange issue with ACA 2011.  When doing various things such as, saving, regen'ing, or manually switching between open drawings, ACA will "blink" to a completely different drawing.

For example, right now I have 4 drawings open.  I'm trying to go from drawing A to drawing B.  It goes to drawing B and starts to regen model space, then it blinks back to drawing A.  Does the same for any of the 4 drawings.  Only way to make it stop was to close drawing A.

As I said, it not only does this when switching drawings.  It'll also do it after it's done saving and when I try to regen.

I was hoping that a new computer+new cad will make our work more efficient and faster, but i noticed theres a lot of lagging and general slowness in loading files.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Switching Between Configurations Holes

Sep 19, 2013

I have a cabinet that we make, and we put some holes through the sheet metal skin of the cabinet at the assembly level. I use iLogic to turn these holes on and off, depending on configurations.

Sometimes when switching between configurations the holes that were suppressed will disappear from my model and leave me with just the original sketch. So my iLogic rule errors because it can't find the hole feature.

I am using planes based off of the origin planes to define an axis that I use as my hole center line. And I then make a sketch on the XY origin plane to create a point for my hole. So everything there is independent of the cabinet model.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Switching Between Parallels And BootCamp

Aug 17, 2011

I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro and originally thought that I would be able to switch between boot camp and parrallels to run Inventor.  After reading several threads there seems to be a problem with the Inventor Licience breaking if you switch from on environment to the other.

Has tried using the Lic. Transfer Utility when switching between the two.  I know it sounds like a hassel, but shouldn't that work?  I sure that isn't how it Utility was designed, but since the program thinks that you have changed computers?

I haven't tried this personally, but really that Inventor running thru boot camp would be the best environment for serious work and I could use parallels when I need to less intensive design or review?

I have loaded parallels 6 and windows 7 as a virtual machine with boot camp.  I haven't loaded Inventor but plan on doing that today?

AutoCAD LT :: 2013 - Crash When Switching Between Tabs

Sep 14, 2012

I've been crashing (fatal error, unhandled access violation) a LOT lately, and it happens when I'm changing between tabs - both between layout tabs and from layout to model. I have a brand new computer and a recent install of AutoCAD, which I also ran the repair routine on recently to try to fix the crashing issue. This happened with my old computer as well, and our IT people thought maybe it was too old to handle AC 2013 (old one was about 7 years old), so now I'm running an HP Compaq Elite 8300, Win 7 OS, with an Intel i5-3470 CPU at 3.2 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA NVS 300 graphics card. And it still crashes.

I'm using files that were created on my old CAD station, which ran AutoCAD 2008 LT, and it started crashing on me - I suppose it's possible that one or more of those files got corrupted and that's what's causing this. It's crashed three times in the last three days, and probably a total of 10 - 15 times since my new computer came in late last month, and I'm getting pretty tired of it.
