AutoCAD LT :: Windows 8 - Slow Switching Between Layouts

May 21, 2013

We installed Autocad LT 2014 on our new computer and I noticed that it is unusually slow to switch between layouts.

The bottom bar (where the paper/model space button is) kept flashing/switching as if its thinking whenever i click from one layout to another.  Even when I'm zooming in and out, the bottom bar kept flashing slowly.

I was hoping that a new computer+new cad will make our work more efficient and faster, but i noticed theres a lot of lagging and general slowness in loading files.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Same Layouts In One Drawing But Slow Switching To One Of Them

Dec 6, 2013

i have a test drawing attached with layout 1 and layout 2.

from model to layout 1 takes 2-3 seconds on my crappy computer, from model to layout 2 takes 8-10 seconds on the same crappy computer.

this sample i attached has a xref binded. which result is the same 3 and  8 seconds respectively.

you may think this is not a big deal. but layout 1 will take 10 seconds to to switch to if you have 5 xref while layout 2 will take a minute.

i did my research and haven't find the difference in variables between the two paperspace layouts.

tried all the variables made no difference:

psltscale, msltscale, celtscale, savefidelity, etc.

also set both viewoprts to undefined same thing.

the only difference is "1" is created from a blank autocad template by selecting "metric - no template", and "2" is imported from a civil 3d dwg after done a plan/profile production and that thing created that layout.

is there a tool to compare all variables between 2 layouts and find the differences? i am certain the problem lie within system variables.

AutoCad :: Switching Windows And Copying Layouts?

Mar 2, 2012

Problem 1 Most of the time when I am switching in between drawings that are open I have to "regen" the drawing that I switch to as nothing shows up when I switch.

Problem 2 Problem is copying layouts over. When I go to designcenter and then open drawings I try and drag a layout into a different drawing. Somtimes it works but usually I drag it onto the drawing and the new layout doesn't appear. I had this problem ever since I switched from 2010 to 2011 and now 2012.

AutoCad :: Paperspace Layouts Switching To Portrait?

Mar 2, 2010

We have a huge vault of old CAD drawings and the issue that we keep running into is that once some of these drawings are plotted and the drawings is re-saved the paper space layouts are flipping from landscape to portrait ignoring the default plot settings.

So we end up having to go to each paper space tab and individually switch each page back to landscape and then save, after that the drawings is usually good and won't repeat the problem but it's a real hassle as some of these drawings have a few dozen pages.

Is there any way to remedy this from happening or at the very least is there a way to select all the paperspace tabs and switch the page orientaion of all of them in one shot? I'm at my wits end trying to figure out something that to me seems as though it should be much easier, i.e. highlighting all the tabs and changing the settings for the bunch but alas CAD does not allow this.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Switching Between layouts / Saving DWG

Oct 17, 2012

When I work in large files (10,000 kb +) I experience significant delays when copying large amounts of information (copy a floor plan) or when switching between layouts or saving the dwg.  I wish I could tell you it started right after I But I just recently started working with the larger files.  So this could have been an issue from the time I bough the machine - 18 months ago.

it's either an issue with my graphics card or processor.  I would like others to comment on their opinions on adjust my set-up to be more efficient

I believe I have the most current driver for the video card.  Did I hear right somewhere that there is no good driver for the Quadro 4000 to work with  2012?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Slow Regen And Space Switching

Apr 22, 2010

When switching from layout to model space, and back again, and when switching layouts the regen is slow to an extreme, upwards of (3) minutes. Using Renenall in layout, the regens are quite slow as well. Windows 7, AutoCAD 2011, NVIDIA Quadro FX1800, most current driver.

Additionally, when publishing, the regens are equally slow. LAYOUTREGENCTL setting seems to have no affect.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Very Slow When Undoing / Plotting Or Switching Drawings

May 13, 2010

When using the undo command, plotting or switching between drawings in Autocad 2010 and now also 2011 I am experiencing long delays of up to 15-20 seconds at a time which is rather frustrating. I am running a fast spec computer and can't seem to overcome it, I haven't had the problem with 2009 and when need to do something quickly have found myself using the outdated software. Other users in the same office have equal or lesser spec computers and are not having the same issues, I have tried a re-install and this hasn't worked either. I was hoping the new 2011 version would solve this issue but no luck.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Slow Lag Time Switching Between Paper And Model Space

Oct 25, 2013

I'm having an issue in 2014 with switching between model and paper space.  It takes 4-to-5 seconds for me to begin working in these spaces, after switching.  Going between tabs is not an issue, it's just switching between model and paper space that causes the lag.

CorelDRAW X6 :: Crashes When Switching Programs On Windows 7 Taskbar

Jun 27, 2012

I've had a couple occurrences of X6 crashing suddenly, but a common one is when I've switched away from X6 and then try to switch back by clicking on the X6 icon on the Windows 7 taskbar.  I'm running Win7 64bit.  When I hover my mouse over the CDX6 icon on the taskbar, a couple of the preview mini-windows will show the Windows "working" round rotating icon for about a half second and then BAM - the windows "This Program is Not Responding" window comes up where you choose to either let windows find a solution (it never does), or just close the program.

I never have any trouble opening the program back up, or working with the exact same files that were open when it crashed.  It does seem to happen when I have multiple files open, but I almost always am working with 3-4 at a time.

Photoshop :: CS6 Is Very Slow (Windows 7)

May 21, 2013

Photoshop CS6 behaves slow, very slow. Even with no document open, right after launch it reacts with delay on any mouseclick, sometimes it takes more than 20 seconds before a menu pops open after clicking. Painting paintbrushes are impossible slow.Basically any action is dragged. Its impossible to work like this. With all previous versions of PS i never encountered this.Things i tried :

- turned off gpu acceleration (i read that gpu can cause performance issues, some ppl solved slowness by turning it off)
- updated latest nvidia drivers
- reinstalled photoshop
- tried to inspect photoshop processes with Process Hacker, even when at 5% cpu it runs extremely slow

specs :

Windows 7
Nvidia GT545
1 terrabyte free scratch disk space (on C:)
8 gb ram
CPU i7 2600

Photoshop :: Very Slow Lightroom 4.4 To CS6 In Windows 8?

May 17, 2013

I have a problem with my Windows 8 computer. notice that on this computer I did not change any of the default settings in the operating system, it is a clean install of Windows 8. I have also installed the latest version of Photoshop and Lightroom directly from my Adobe Application Manager software (I am a Creative Cloud member).

What happens is that I have to wait 30-50 seconds after I give, in Lightroom, the command "Modify in -> Photoshop CS6" (I have the software in Italian and I hope that this translation is correct. Here is the command that I am using:

The very strange thing that happens is that Photoshop opens fast (5 seconds, I have an SSD) and Lightroom is very fast too. Here is the strange thing. Photoshop opens after I launch the command.

Then nothing seems to happen for 30-50 seconds (sometimes also more time). After this “long” period of time this error appears in Lightroom:

It says: "you can't modify this file because Photoshop CS6 can't be started". However, this is not true! Photoshop is running correctly, and it was running! This happens if Photoshop was started from Lightroom and if Photoshop was running before Lightroom command "Modify in -> Photoshop CS".

Another strange thing is that, after I press "OK" to this error message, the file immediately opens in Photoshop!

notice that this behavior happens also with a series of file. If, for example, I export 10 files from Lighroom, then, after about one minute, I get 10 error messages in Lightroom, and, when I press OK, the files will open in Photoshop (for each "OK" that I press a file opens, so I have to press 10 times OK to open my 10 files!).

3ds Max :: 2011- Slow Save Files In Windows 7

Apr 19, 2011

I just recently upgraded from WinXP64 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and everything is good… aside from the fact that everytime I save the files, it is realy slow

I never had this issue before (although when I think about it, I used to work on another Win7 station a few months ago and I had the same issue)

I think the reason is OS related as everytime I click on save, it “re-creates” the file from scratch… This is not much of a problem on small files… but I have scenes that are over 500MB each and it takes forever to save everytime (not that the scene unreliability is not enough!!!)

But both X6 on both Windows XP are nightmare. Just creating new document can take up to 10 sec. Printing is also very slow, but exporting simple JPG file knock-me down. It take half minute or more...

Previous we worked many year's with X4 on same PC's, now we format PC's, Install Windows XP with all service pack's and updates, reboot machine and install X6.

It is not possible to install Windows 8 on those two PC's, because they drive two machines, that only support Windows XP...

An obvious 'solution' is to install Linux as a VM under Virtualbox.

Photoshop :: Extremely Slow Print Dialog Response In CS4 (Windows 7 64bit)

Jan 3, 2012

It's a Q6700, 4GB, 2TB drives, Epson R2880 running Windows 7, 64-bit.  CS4 is very peppy, runs great, opens, closes, edits, NO PROBLEM.

UNTIL you decide to print.  Once you hit the print selection it takes a MINIMUM of 40 seconds for the CS4 print dialog to appear.  If you then hit the "page setup" button, it'll be at LEAST another 30 seconds before that appears.  Once they're up, you can navigate around and make changes, but once you hit the print button on the dialog it'll be another 10-15 seconds before it responds and if you specify "Print Preview" it'll be at least another 30 seconds before you get the preview.  Once it hits the printer, it prints fine.  There haven't been any software or hardware changes in weeks, except the weekly MS updates that get installed.

I've tried large images, and small images in case there was something CS4 was doing.  This process is this slow when printing a 4x6 greeting card or a 12 x 18 photograph.

What's interesting is this is a new phenomenon...  It worked FINE up until sometime last week.  Then suddenly, slow.......  Concurrently, the print dialog STOPPED DISPLAYING INK LEVELS.  The status monitor still displays them, but the printer dialog no longer does.

I've unloaded the printer and cleaned off every file I could find that appeared to be associated with an Epson print driver.  Went to Epson and got the latest, Windows 7, 64-bit set of drivers and status monitor and installed that.  No difference.  Also tried a new USB cable AND switched it to the other USB port on the printer and on the PC.  Nothing's made any difference......

If necessary, I can have her re-install CS4, but is there anything that should be done before we start clobbering major applications, or ever worse, the operating system?

I brought in a DIM style that is in inches, actually fractional with " as a suffix. When I dimension something it is in mm with the " after it. I also tried to start a new drawing and copied the drawing to the new file, it worked before i imported the drawing but after, everything was mm again. I used copy with base point to transfer the drawing to the new file. Where else would that be controlled from.
