When opening a drawing, since I've installed 2013, I don't have an initial view or preview of the drawings I'm selecting. In the open box, the "Initial View" or "Select initial view is unchecked and won't let me put a check mark in so I can review the drawing before opening.
View 9 RepliesI recently purchased AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 and all of a sudden when I select "File", and "Open", the dialog box from which I am supposed to select a drawing file has a small "Initial View" box with a small check box to "Select Initial View". This box seems docked to the right side of the "Select File" dialog box but I am unable to select the check box. It seems to do nothing. Is this a glitch?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen you create your own template part file and change the "Initial View Extents" setting in Document Settings on the Modelling Tab. Does this affect the behavior of the initial view extents when re-opening a part file created from this template?
FYI - I recently created a new template part file so that the sketch gridline spacing was more relevant to the size of parts I create. I like to use gridlines while in sketch mode because it is a good visual indicator that I'm in sketch mode. On opening a new part file that referenced to my new template, I noticed that the initial view extents meant only a couple of gridlines were visible due to the zoom level. I therefore tweaked my template file by increasing the initial view extents by a factor of 4 (400mm x 200mm).
The problem now is when opening a part file created from this template, the zoom level seems to snap to the customised view extents and not to the physical extents of the part. Right clicking the View Cube and re-setting the "Fit to View" has no effect. This feature seems broken now that I use modified initial view extents.
The Select Initial view checkbox in the standard file open dialogue has moved in 2013 from just above the File Name label to the file list window. Aside from the fact that it looks totally out of place design wise I find it obscures the file list. A way to revert to the previous behavior, or, even better, get rid of it all together because I never use it.

Now today any drawing that opens shows the plan view as last saved but then after loading takes the drawing and shifts it into a 3d view similar to a crossection. Is there a setting somewhere that has been changed? I noticed after a windows 7 update was preformed.

But I want to maximize the view port size such that (for example) the dotted line to be the defualt view port size in the paper space.

What I am trying to do is realign my drawing so a line I drew is horizontal to the page. For example, I have a line at a 45 degree angle and I want to rotate my viewport so that line is now at a 0 degree angle. Is there a simple way to do this?
A follow up: I have my point labels set to be a 45 degree angle, will they be at a 45 degree angle when I realign the drawing or will they "rotate" along with the drawing?
I have an existing drawing with 3D polylines, I try to orbit to veiw it in a different view and all i get is a line.

Civil 3D Section .dwt (Template/plan production) has only layouts for A0 and A1 plan and scales 1/500 - 1/1000 and 1/5000. I tried to change the format to A3 and scale to 1/200 of one of those layouts in the set up manager but didn't get a good result while producing section sheets.
How can I copy a profile view style from one drawing to another? I can't seem to locate the ones I created in toolspace to be able to drag them from one drawing to another.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to Inventor 2014 we notice that the graphics do not work properly, and that the overall performance in drawings and modelling bad compared to 2013. Then we installed SP1 and now drawing views are disappearing, however when we select "shaded" view the view reappears and works perfectly..
Any workaround regarding disappearing views?
Each time when I place a part in base view, have to follow few steps; go through view label, format Text, than choose type option - [Properties-Model] and its property - [Part Number], than placing dimensions. it takes long time and very repetitive, especially, when placing a hundreds of parts and I was wondering if there is an option, to set up view label; [Properties - Model ]& [Part number], as a DEFAULT. So, each time placing a part, in base view it will come up with correct label. Also, overall dimensions, can it be retrieve using parameters of the part?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if after drawing an alignment, creating a profile, and profile view, is there a way I can mark items along the alignment so they could show up in the profile view. I am laying out a pipeline and want to have the profile display a marker for items such as tees, elbows, reducers and other items. The marker I would like to use will be something like the vertical style grade break markers.
Also on a side note, as each of these items will have a different name, is there a way that I can add these markers and then have each one with a unique name?
1. I had trouble with profile view of the alignment line shown. What step am i missing? Are there things that is turned off?
2. How can I best come up with the right volume to fill.
3. Do I need to learn the grading tools? or could i get buy with a section profile from the alignment. ( it is not even an alignment yet)
4. How to I render a rock fill in this cave-in.
The attached aerial image , has survey or cogo points that are imported to surface, to become surface points. . So I wanted to create a surface profile below and an outline of fill above it. Iideally the side profile would look like a trapezoid, where the base is the surface proile and top would be the design embankment.
But the reason , a surveying crew went down and took shots at the shoreline and a couple shots around the cave-in walls (higher elevation on the cave-in wall cannot be surveyed, although I coud have used a laser , did not) is so that a more accurate volume of the cave in can be obtained. I tried to label how far the road edge is from edge of the cave-in . Norice the higher elevations are the top edge around the cave in area.
The ouline for the embankment will be a mild slope then breaks to a more steep slope. like 4 :1 , then 1.5:1
I created 8 points (4 locations with 2 depths in each location) in the DWG of my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 project. I grouped these 8 points into 2 Point Groups: Point Group 1-high depth has Points #1, #3, #5, #7, and Point Group 2-low depth has #2, #4, #6, #8. I changed the 2D Wireframe to 3D Wireframe and on TOP view I saw Point Group 1 is on the top of Point Group 2 (because the 2 Point Groups have the same values of X- and Y-coordinates with different Z(elevation) value - see the first attached file. How can I change the TOP view to the TOP-FRONT view by using some Command to get this fixed TOP-Front view thar has the good separation of the 2 depths as shown in the second attached file?

I wonder I should start the C3D 2013 with choosing the right Template, configuring proper Viewports and creating suitable View Frames. View 1 Replies View RelatedI was given a horizontal centerline of a 5 mile bike path. We have to stake all the even stationing every 50 feet and all the VPC's and VPT's with vertical elevation. I have created the horizontal profile and also the vertical profile including all the vertical curve information. Is there an easy way to incorporate the elevation information back into the plan view so I can create points that carry x,y & z points that I can transfer out of autocad as a .txt file so we can upload it on our gps equipment?

View 9 Replies View RelatedCIvil 3D 2013 / My drawing opens in layout view and all model objects are appropriately coloured by layer. If I hit plot at this point, my colour dependent .ctb file works fine. However, once I swtich to model view, all my linework turns white and if I switch back to Layout view it remains white and plots each line with the weight assigned to the colour white.

When I exported same alignment to Google earth , it showed the length as 190m ( the difference increases with increase in length of alignment) And also the profile view of the alignment in the Civil D & Google earth varies.
I need to use x-ray view in a drawing. But still i using autocad 2007. There is no visual styles [View > visual styles > manage visual style] for x-ray. But there is some option to create different visual styles. Can i make x-ray view with these option? require settings for x-ray view.

After installing all products within Building Design Suite Ultimate 2013 and/or Infrastructure Design Suite Ultimate 2013 I try to open AutoCAD 2013 and get the attached screen. It just grinds and try to open but always shows "not responding". I've read posts that suggest uninstalling and re-installing. I've done this several times. I've used the Microsoft Fix-It engine to completely erase from the PC. I have even just installed the AutoCAD portion and it will not open. Each time I reinstall it asks me to supply all proper credentials, product code, etc. It shows green check marks so I know my codes are correct.
I've tried opening other programs and the only successful one is Revit. Am I to point the start-up of the programs to the licenses or something.
I'm working on a FEA of a climbing carabiner (oval-shaped; one side of the oval is a gate which opens and closes allowing a rope into the carabiner).
The gate of the 'biner has a hook which attaches to the "nose" of mainbody/biner. However, this hook does not engage until the biner slightly deforms.
I've attempted to use the separation/no sliding contact option, but the solver behaves as if there is no contact occuring. The nose simply passes right through the gate hook.
The initial gap of the system is about 0.040". That means the nose must deflect 0.040" before the contact surface comes into play.
I am working on an old drawing with 2007 LT. When I draw a horizontal line in modelspace, It shows as a vertical line in a viewport of the layout.
In modelspace, when I type UCS, z, it shows angle about z is 90 degree. I can chang it to 0 here. But still the the line in the view is not rotate back.
How is this set up? How could I rotate back in the view?
I'm working on a Isometric drawing and im trying to dimension the view. I keep the original view there and cut another of the same view and place that cut view over the original, so I have something to snap to while dimensioning.
Every time i go to place the cut view over the original and i always grab the wrong view and move it and I am wondering if there is a way to pin the original view in place permanently?
