Oct 8, 2012I am editing a wall. in the roof and floor line edit, I added a gable, now I need to change the slope to match 12/12 pitch. How do I do this?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Match Gutter Slope To Outside Lane Super Subassembly Slope
Mar 22, 2011Can't figure out how to match gutter slope to outside lane super subassembly slope. Have super eop targeting a feature line with elevations, but when i check section editor gutter slope doesn't match pavement slope.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Slope To Depth Of 10 Feet Than Change To 2:1 Slope
Aug 13, 2012I am in the process of transitioning from land desktop to Civil 3D. I design roads in steep terrain and sometimes need to have my catch (daylight) slopes change. So my question is, how do I change a daylight slope at a specified depth? For example, from the shoulder of the road I want a 3:1 fill slope to a depth of 10 feet than change to a 2:1 slope until it catches the existing surface. Can this be built into a subassembly such that if the fill is less than 10 feet it will daylight correctly at a 3:1 and if the depth is greater than 10 feet then it carries the 3:1 for 10 vertical feet and then changes to the 2:1 until it daylights?

When I select to use the parameter reference LinkoffsetandSlope I get a slope, but it is in the wrong direction.The linkoffsetandslope is getting the grade from the existing CL of roadway and the existing edge of pavement.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Assembly For Match Slope / Widening / Mill And Overlay
Mar 7, 2013I'm looking to make an assembly to follow the crown of the existing roadway which is to be milled and overlayed. In addition to being milled and overlayed there will be a curb bumpout which will be full depth pavement. The roadway does not hold a constant crown at 2%, it varies which is why I would like it to mimic the existing roadway cross slope. What would be the best way to go about making an assembly to model this. I have attached an image so that you may get an idea of the situation. I have a curb gutter line which I would like the assembly to target in both width and elevation. The single slanted hatch is mill and overlay and the double slanted hatch is full depth pavement (widening).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Conical Spring That Can Change In Pitch As It Tapers?
May 23, 2013I need a conical spring that can change in pitch as it tapers. Basically the spring starts in a compression style and tapers down to an expasion style. The CNC spring machines are capable to produce it, but am I able to, through Inventor? If not when will we have this feature capability?

Sep 13, 2012I currently use Mep 2012 although my question I believe is general in nature. As a sheet metal contractor I do drawings that have many different entities at various elevations. Many times I use change propeties to match the propeties of on entity like a linetype to change another. What I really need to do is have the ability to use a similiar button and match or change the "Z" elevation of a specific entity just like I do for linetype, color etc.

Sep 3, 2013I'm building a PEMB frame family partly to teach myself and because none of the ones I could find online match the ones I'm working with. It's been a bumpy road but I've gotten the family to the point where there are parameters and elements for the flange, web, baseplate & girts.
Where I've run into a problem are the bracing flanges. The flange at the top of the column was simple enough since it's always horizontal but the beam braces are all 90 deg to the top chord. Any refrence plane or reference line drawn from the intersection of the bottom & column chords to the top chord does not move with the other chords when the family types are changed. I applied a 90 deg angular dimension constraint between the top chord and the bracing flange but when I change the pitch of the top chord by increasing the Ridge Height Revit gives me a warning message that the constraint is no longer satisfied instead of rotating the flange!

AutoCAD Architecture :: Match Properties Changing AEC Blocks?
Dec 21, 2011We've just upgraded to AutoCAD Architecture 2012 and I discovered that my match properties command (MA) is now on steroids. In the process of making an existing plan into a demo plan, I put a toilet on a demo layer. I intended to use match properties to put other select items on the same demo layer, but when I touched the lavatory, it turned into a toilet. I've never had this happen before. In trying to solve the issue, I've discovered the same thing happens with other AEC objects (couches, urnials, chairs -- all became toilets) and it happens in multiple files. Only walls and doors remain intact with only the layer, color and linetype changing (which is what I was expecting).
I looked at the settings inside the match properties command and none of them seemed to apply. I deselected the special properties options anyway, but the problem remains.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Rotating Object To Match Angle Of Another
Jul 26, 2012i would like to rotate an object to match the angle of another. I can measure the angle but there are many decimal points and I want it to be exact.
One method i have employed is to change the ucs - z setting to align with the object to be rotated then click it and select a point that intersects the other object (this case a line) and then the 2nd snap is somewhere along the line.
this works although sometimes i have to rotate a second time 90 deg. or 180 to get proper orientation.
Is there method, or hidden snap?

My question is how to get the revcloud and text and the revision diamond… and everything to be match with the drawing's size? coz we have stranded in microstation, that’s give you the right size for everything according to the sheet scale.

Jan 22, 2013i need a shoulder subassembly that varies slope in relation to the lane superelevation slope. i know that i can get a subassembly for the shoulder that will follow the alignment superelevation xml data but in my case i can't use it because we are just adding a shoulder to an existing road. we're not changing the superelevation of the existing road, just milling and overlaying and widening. right now i've created a profile of the outside edge of the shoulder that gives me the correct shoulder slope but whenever i change my centerline profile i have to redo the shoulder profiles which is a real time suck.

Jan 7, 2013I have an Input parameter called "Construction Slope" of type "Slope" that I would always like to be negative. As i did not find the possibility to restrict end user to inputing only negative value I tried to change the sign of the slope to negative if it is positive by using an "IF" expression (when used as a "Geometry Property" for a new link):
IF(ConstructionSlope<=0,ConstructionSlope,(-1)*ConstructionSlope)
However this expression produces an error: "Compiler error(s) encountered processing expression <...> Cannot infer a common type because more than one type is possible". If i remove multiplication by -1 then the error is gone (and the whole expression becomes meaningless as well of course). See even attached image.

AutoCad :: How To Change Units To Match Actual Desired Size
Mar 13, 2012I've received a dwg file from someone and I want to print it at scale 1:50 on A0 paper. However, I'm struggling creating the right scale.
My problem starts with the fact that measuring lines in the diagram does not produce values that match the actual size. E.g., I have a wall of size 390, but measuring it shows 621.
Is there any way to change the units to match the actual desired size?
Then, I find it tricky to create the right scale for printing (people will get the paper and use a ruler to measure distances, so accurate scale is important). If I cannot change the units, I guess I need a different scale than 1mm=50units. So I tried 1mm=8units, because 7.8mm should measure as 390cm in 1:50 ruler. But this is not very accurate.

Sep 21, 2011I have never gotten this to work, but had put little effort into it until recently. Thus far I have checked my project standards to make sure "match sheet views to view" is checked to "yes".
In both View drawing and the sheet- VISRETAIN is set to 1.
the VPLAYEROVERRIDESMODE is set to 1
I am working on drawings that are in my current project through project navigator. I am using ACA 2010 and not sure what else I need to do. I turn off all the unwanted layers in the view drawing, then create a sheet and xref in the view to model space- all the layers reset, and I again have to turn off all the unwanted layers. If I change a layer color in the view drawing, it does not change in the sheet drawing upon save and refresh.
I hate wasting time repeating the same task over and over....

Oct 12, 2013When we make an external threaded part, like a stud or something, I'd like to save my lathe guys some time looking things up by showing the pitch diameters on the thread callouts.
I've looked through some posts on this and it doesn't seem like there's an easy way to do it in an automated fashion, even though the data is in the Thread.xls file. I'd really like to not have to look it up to make every print.
First, I thought I'd just use the "Custom Thread Designation" field, but as soon as I changed it in the XLS file, I kept getting alerts in Inventor saying that there was an error in the thread family because the callout applied to multiple fit classes or something like that. So that didn't work out very well. So....
1. Is there a way to do this?
2. What is the point of the "custom thread designation" infrastructure? Am I not using it correctly?

Jun 20, 2012You can create a variable pitch helix by using the Equation Curve feature introduced in Inventor 2013.
Create a new 3D Sketch. Start the Equation Curve command.
Here are equations that I use to create helical curves. Many other variations exist.
Cartesian coordinates:
x(t) = radius * sin(360 * num_turns * t)
y(t) = radius * cos(360 * num_turns * t)
z(t) = height * t

When you sweep a profile along a helical path, use the plane normal sweep (instead of perpendicular sweep) to orient profiles suitable for coil or spring. In the example below, the sweep path is a constant radius, variable pitch helix.
