issue that when the xref a drawing with Surface Slope Arrows, that the style changes in the child drawing compared to the parent?
I am hoping to use the standard I am used to of the arrow pointing down the hill (towards the -10ft) rather than what the child file is showing of uphill (away from the -10ft).

I am in the process of transitioning from land desktop to Civil 3D. I design roads in steep terrain and sometimes need to have my catch (daylight) slopes change. So my question is, how do I change a daylight slope at a specified depth? For example, from the shoulder of the road I want a 3:1 fill slope to a depth of 10 feet than change to a 2:1 slope until it catches the existing surface. Can this be built into a subassembly such that if the fill is less than 10 feet it will daylight correctly at a 3:1 and if the depth is greater than 10 feet then it carries the 3:1 for 10 vertical feet and then changes to the 2:1 until it daylights?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen creating my plan set, I need to data reference pipe networks into other drawings than that in which they were designed to show crossings in profile views or to separate out profiles into managable drawings. When I do this, if I have swapped a type-13 inlet for a 10' type R inlet or something during design, the data referenced pipe network will replace the 10' type R with a default inlet. Also if I have swapped a proposed 30" pipe for an existing 30" that have different styles, the data referenced pipe network will revert back to the proposed 30" pipe. how to make a data referenced pipe network reflect what is currently in the design drawing?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Input parameter called "Construction Slope" of type "Slope" that I would always like to be negative. As i did not find the possibility to restrict end user to inputing only negative value I tried to change the sign of the slope to negative if it is positive by using an "IF" expression (when used as a "Geometry Property" for a new link):
IF(ConstructionSlope<=0,ConstructionSlope,(-1)*ConstructionSlope)
However this expression produces an error: "Compiler error(s) encountered processing expression <...> Cannot infer a common type because more than one type is possible". If i remove multiplication by -1 then the error is gone (and the whole expression becomes meaningless as well of course). See even attached image.
Is there a way to change the settings on the Profile Layout Parameters to display as Gradients instead of the default Slopes?
E.g. I'd like to type in 1 in 150 instead of 0.6666666% etc
Can you not perform a slope-slope intercept to place a PVI? Essentially holding the sta and elev of the PVI's directly before and after the PVI of interest and changing the grade in and out so that the sta and elev of the PVI of interest are changed.

i need a shoulder subassembly that varies slope in relation to the lane superelevation slope. i know that i can get a subassembly for the shoulder that will follow the alignment superelevation xml data but in my case i can't use it because we are just adding a shoulder to an existing road. we're not changing the superelevation of the existing road, just milling and overlaying and widening. right now i've created a profile of the outside edge of the shoulder that gives me the correct shoulder slope but whenever i change my centerline profile i have to redo the shoulder profiles which is a real time suck.

The Arrow head size didn't change corresponding to the scale, i included the pic below, the top picture, the arrow head was set at .18" but was really small when i plot out, so i wanted to make it bigger, when i changed to .50" or .75" or even 1" the arrow head became even smaller than .18". Only when .18" than the arrow side is legible

I have created a data shortcut to a surface using Civil3D 2011. When I create a reference to it in another drawing, it shows up in the Prospector but nothing shows up on the screen. I have played with the surface style and made sure all the layers were on and tried closing and reopening the drawing.
I have also tried to reference it into a brand new blank drawing and I even tried to reference a surface in a different file that I have referenced several times before (in 2010). Every time I get the same results. It seems like the surface is there, but I just can't see it.
I am going through our Civil 3D template and purging all layers we do not use. However, there are four assembly layers AutoCAD won't let me delete, but I cannot find any style or object referencing them. If it matters, the layers are C-ROAD-ASSM, C-ROAD-ASSM-BLIN, C-ROAD-ASSM-OFFS, and C-ROAD-SCTN-DIAG.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am working in Civil 3D 2010 and I created a surface a while back which 4 pipe networks have been referenced to and the surface has been data shortcut'd. I am now facing the issue that the surface needed to be renamed.
I looked in the Data Shortcuts folder and the name didn't change on the shortcut. All the pipe networks have errors now cause it is looking for a surface that technically no longer exists.
I tried deleting the Data Shortcut and creating a new one with the new name and resetting all the networks to the new surface but I am still gettting errors.
Is there a step that I am missing to get all this to link together properly with the new name?
I've lined up an image myself in Civil 3D over a topographical survey but now I want to export the image as a geo-referenced image so it can be brought into Mapinfo and Tuflow in the right place, coordinate-wise.
My question is - is it possible, and how do you do it!
I've been getting this Undefined Alias Referenced error showing up every time I open one specific drawing.
Also, I'm not sure if this is related to the first part. In the same drawing I have several png files that I can't get rid of.
Not sure if this is something that has been going on a while, if it is a design flaw, or if it just a workflow thing that we should be more mindful of, but here goes:
1. I data reference an alignment into a drawing.
2. I later data reference in a profile that was created from and associated with that alignment.
In this scenario, Civil 3D creates a duplicate alignment for the profile i.e., the orginal alignment is in prospetor as 'Alignment A' and the profile being data referenced in creates a 'Alignemnt A (1)' duplicate and associates itself with it.
This also happens if I bring in a different profile created from the same alignment IF the alignment was already present as a data reference in the drawing.
This seems wrong. It doesn't do any of this if I data reference the profile in first...
I have Civil3d2012 and have created a surface in one drawing and then referenced it to another. It appears to be working, but the contour labels will not work on the drawing where the surface is referenced. I have all the appropriate layers on.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a HUGE number of data referenced surfaces and alignments that need to be moved to a different group of folders. Is there a simple way to do this without breaking the references (each surface/alignment) is referenced into multiple drawings.
The project was divided up into a bunch of little mini projects so now we have 500150_A, 500150_B etc (around 90 of them). Each one has a dwg file with a surface and at least one alignment and that drawing is data referenced to all the other sheets within that mini project. Each project has _Shortcuts, drawings etc.
The powers-that-be have decided to 1) change the project number (from 500150 to 500152) and 2) to bring all these mini projects together into ONE project.
We've confirmed that each surface/alignment has a unique name which means that there shouldn't be a conflict in that regard.
Is there any way to determine the source drawing of a dref'ed object? I'm not seeing anything in COM or the .NET API's, hopefully I'm just not looking in the right place.

We have another drawing "B", that contains an alignment and a reference to"SurfaceA"
The user created EG profiles in drawing "B", and has been working on this drawing periodically.
Today all of a sudden when he opens Drawing "B", the EG profiles are missing. When you look at "SurfaceA" in Drawing "B", there is no data. We synced, we made sure of the association of the drawings to the projects, etc. etc.
I verified the data shortcuts are OK, and verified that both drawings are in good shape (via Recover and Audit)
But wait.....here is the crazy part. If you shut down Drawing "B" and open it say a dozen times, once or twice in that stretch, "surfaceA" shows up and the EG profiles will appear OK too. It's feels very random.....
How can I screen back an aerial that is being x-referenced into a drawing?
View 5 Replies View Relatedis it possible to get the alignment name which the corridor surface is built from when the surface is being data referenced. in other word no corridor as the middleman.
the way i see it is when corridor suface is referenced, it becomes a regular surface and loses some properties such as parent alignment.
i am still using COM. maybe .net can do it? either way works.

I've begun to create tool palettes to organize my blocks and often-used items. I have no trouble creating the tool palette, inserting regular blocks, export/import of the tool palette and groups, however my problem involves Dynamic Blocks and the fact that I keep each seperate dynamic block in a different file. I do this so that I can easily insert the block into a new drawing.
I'm able to drag the dwg file onto the palette (from explorer to autocad) just fine, that way the block's reference in the palette is the original file. Although when I take this method, I don't gain the lighting bolt to signify a dynamic block.
To get the lighting bolt I insert the block into an empty drawing, save it, then drag the block over to the palette. The problem with this is that the tool palette references the saved blank drawing, not the original block's file.
My endgame is to have a tool palette that contains my dynamic blocks and that will be eventually exported/imported to other computers everytime there is a major change. I also want to be able to change the original block's file and have that change be reflected in the tool palette.
I am editing a wall. in the roof and floor line edit, I added a gable, now I need to change the slope to match 12/12 pitch. How do I do this?

All these are data referenced to the project. Then they are data referenced into a new file. I bring in one of the profiles that brings in the alignment. Lets call it "Main Street". Then I create another reference to another one fo the profiles and it brings in a copy of an alignment and calls it "Main Street (1)"
This is a pain because I cant get a profile view to show all the profiles because the profiles are associated with three different alignments "Main Street", "Main Street(1)", "Main Street(1)(1)"
This is only happening with one of the of the alignments. The other alignment has all its profiles listed under one alignment.
The undefined areas of a slope map now have a hatch to them and are plotting black. This map was created a month ago in 2012 without issues, upgraded to 2014 and now the undefined range has hatch!

I have a simple driveway corridor along a steep hillside. For cut, I would like to have a negative slope away from the shoulder edge. I have tried numerous approaches and all 'cut' reverts to positive. I searched and found no clear answer. It's such a short driveway, I can 'fake' it in, but I would like to calculate quantities.

I have 2 dimension styles, but for one, I can't change the arrowhead
In the attachment, there are 2 dimensions, one of each style. The left one works good, the right one doesn't reflect any changes to arrows (type, size).
I've got a surface that displays contours correctly. When I go to Surface Properties-Analysis tab, I can set an arbitrary number of ranges for contours, directions, elevations, slope arrows, etc, and they display correctly.
I can set an arbitrary number of ranges in the slope range box too, but when I click the Analyze button, Civil 3D 2014 hotfix 1 only displays two slope ranges: 0% to 2979736.0077% and 2979736.0077% to 99999900.0001%. (!)
Can I automatically have my slope patterns introduced with a command like matchprop or something similar ?
