Can you anchor columns at 3 column grid intersections... then draw this 3 node Structural Beam such that it will anchor also... so that... if you adjust the column grid... the columns and the 3 node structural member will adjust accordingly?

Oct 7, 2012I'm running ACADLT 3102 on a new Dell xps and the monitor is set to the recommended 1366x768 screen resolution. When certain menus like hatch open up, the bottom of the menu area is off the screen, there's not scroll bar and no way to move the menu up to hit the ok or cancel buttons. I've been getting around this by going into the control panel and changing the screen resolution, then finishing the hatch command, and waiting for the default screen resolution to take over again!
Is there anywhere in the program to change the size/shape of the command screens?? Can't find anything in Options>Display....

Aug 14, 2012I have revived an old project that was started about 2 years ago. I went to attach my title block in paper space and the drawing was itty bitty.
Seemed unusual because in another layout the title block is there with the same page setups etc.
Then I looked at the block units and they were set to mm. Can it be changed? If so how? Or am I completely hooped?

Apr 19, 2011I can't seem to change the DIMSCALE. I want to change this is our template. It is 8'-0" and I can't get it to change to anything else. I get a response of "Cannot set DIMSCALE to the value". I have entered 1....1'=0"....0'=.8333....4'-0" etc., etc. Units are in Architecture Inches. I've unchecked "Automatically Create Dimscale Override"; saved as Default; went to Options...AEC Dimension and unchecked everything in "Automatic Scale of AutoCAD Dimstyles" (don't know if that has anything to do with it).

Apr 12, 2010Over the past year we have had a problem arise on three projects and I can't seem to track down the cause. The first job it only happened once, the second it happened a few times and now on this third project it has happened twice in three days.
The issue is the dst file becomes corrupt and all of our sheet set info is lost. The backup of the dst file is overwritten every few minutes it seems and by the time we notice a problem, the backup has been overwritten by the corrupt file.
A few questions:
1) What is causing the problem? In reading other posts it seems to have something to do with more than one user writing to the file at the same time (but, this last time it happened, only one person in the office was working on the job).
2) Can we change the time between backups?
3) Is there an easier way to rebuild the sheet set?

Mar 18, 2012When I try to calculate bending moment stress thru "Beam and column calcultor it shows an error that is Wk and Jk is missing. Ok that is fine. If we put values for both we will get the answer. Because I have come to know thru inv discussion that many material in the CC do not have these values.
Now my question is when we insert a part for example from content centre (CC) and do FEA analysis on this part. It shows some values like deflection, stress etc etc. How is that possible? one side it is not doing in the beam calculatio but other side in FEA it is doing that.
It means we are not going to rely upon these results in the FEA. It is the same CC, same inventor, how should be trust the result in FEA.

Jun 27, 2013I have a beam that is simply supported and I am needing to do FEA analysis on it. Simply supported on the ends with a load in the middle. Hand calculations show deflection is 2.256in. FEA shows delfection as 1.247in.
I think the problem is the constraints that I have placed on it. I have one fixed constraints at each end. One of these needs to be fixed and the other needs to be able to move horizontally. How do I set this up to get the correct results?

Aug 2, 2013I need to beam complex P&IDs for client viewing. The drawings are in AutoCAD2012. I find it difficult to zoom and pan to the desired place. Beaming individual component P&IDs is also not an option as the client usually wants to see the enitre layout first. The entire layout, when beamed is unreadable without zooming. I was hoping for a solution similar to drilling down in databases (clubbing of data when we at the top levels and then the ability to view details when clicking on a particular cell); where only the important lines and symbols are shown at the top levels so that they can clearly be seen on beaming.

For a customer we need to build a large frame, The outer beams are connected directly to each other. The beams inside the outer frame need to have a gap because of mounting and welding.
What i am looking for is a kind of tool, where i can add a notch, and after the notch, shorten the beam with 1 mm at each side to make a gap, which is needed for welding.
Inventor gives an error if i add first a notch followed by a Lengthen/Shorten command. How to add a notch and a gap of 1 mm to a connecting beam?

Jun 20, 2012Since yesterday, when I try to draw any of our custom wall types all I get is a standard wall type image (rectangle only). None of the detail or component colors are displayed. When I start creating the new wall, the detail displays until I click at the end of the wall, then the detail disappears. When I ID an existing wall and a newly created rectangle the properties all match. I can copy and mirror existing wall and the correct display is retained. All of the existing walls in the drawing display and print correctly. The newly created wall print only the rectangle. Medium detail settings are in place. This has to be a local setting problem on my computer because others in the office can draw the same new wall in the same drawing and get all of the detail.

Mar 28, 2011I'm using AutoCAD Architecture 2012 and Windows 7 Professional x64. Is there a way to change the default sizes of various dialog boxes? When I use the File Open dialog box, for example, I always want it to be bigger so I drag the corner to enlarge it, but the next time I call it it's back to the same default size. Can I drag it to a new size and make that stick, a variable set differently perhaps, or is something more sophisticated involved?
