AutoCAD 2013 :: How To Insert Aerials (TIFF Files)
Feb 20, 2013
I recently changed jobs and my employer did not purchase AutoCAD 2013 Civil 3D instead they only purchased AutoCAD 2013 (plain). I have to work with aerial and I recived all of our county areals which are on a state plain coordinate system. However when I bring the aerials into AutoCAD 2013 via the "ImageAttach" command the aerals come in at 0,0 and just pile up on each other and they are not to the correct scale. I could just move the aerials and try to rescale them and attach them at the corners but the areals are overlapped so this chore is not very acurate lining them up. I said all this to ask..........Is there a way to insert aerials (tif files) into AutoCAD 2013 (plain edition) so that they come in in the correct coordinate location and the correct scale? I know in AutoCAD Civil 3D you could go to the Map module and insert the aerials and they would come in in the right geodetic location. And incase you need to know, the directory I have the aerials stored in has the "tif" , "aux", and the "tfw" files.
I am getting these white lines around my aerials that are turning black when i print them to PDF. I need my graphics guy to turn it into an exibit but these lines are getting in the way.
I have been using [URL] to download aerial images and then insert them into my drawing using mapiinsert. Usually they come in perfect, but sometimes they come in way off. In this case I downloaded image it came in way off. Then i used project base jump and in came in where it should, but the quality is not good enough for what i am trying to determine. so i downloaded an image from [URL]inserted it using mapiinsert. It came in once again way off, but i noticed it came in where the other image did. What am i missing. I do not fully understand how these images choose where they land. I understand there is a world file that gives them xy coordinates, but that is the end of my knowledge.

For whatever reason, working with MrSids aerials with Civil 3D 2012 & 2013 is really slow these days. Three of us CAD techs have Dell Precision T3500 PC's with 24 GB of RAM with Windows 7. I worked with the same aerials 4 years ago using ust 4 GB of RAM with Windows XP. Is there a better type of aerial technology to work with rather than the MrSid aerials? Should we try to get the County to purchase another type of aerial technology to more easily depict the County so we can more quickly produce aerial roadways with stationed alignments..
I am trying to attach a number of tiff files to individual dwg files. There are about 300 so I am writting a script that will open a new dwg, insert the tiff and save the dwg at a given name, so i have filedia set to 0 and everything is user input.
The problem I am having is that when I use the iinsert command and enter the path for the tiff I get this error: (filename)was not found or is not valid. This is pathed to a network drive. When I copy the same folder to my c: drive and run the command everything works as should. is there any reason for this?
When pathed to the c: drive and working correctly it looks like this:
G:EngineeringCURRENT JOBSMOTIVA11301 DCS Migration Phase 2 Execute Engineering Detail DesignDRAWINGSWORKING SETLOOPSDEMOD70 was not found or is not valid.
I noticed in the error message it cuts the end of the file name off. Is there a character limit?
I have done this before with a path to the network and everything worked as should. We have recently upgrade to 2013 but i would'nt think that would be an issue.
So basically, file on local drive everything inserts fine. File on network, get error.
I am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.
My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:
I am new to 2013 and having issues when I print files that have pdf underlays that are set with a border of color 8 but still print dark on the sheet. I have the same issue with TIFF files that want to show the white background and everything dark. Is there an easy fix to plot it greyed out so you can see what you are proposing over what is existing?
I got over 160 color corrected RAW files from my photographer when I thought I was getting TIf or PSD files. I need to put them into an in design doc to send out for printing. Is there a way to convert all of these in one fell swoop without messing up the work that has already been done?
I didn't allow in my timing to save each one individually since i didn't know I was going to need to do this. I am really unfamiliar with batch processing, so how to best go about this, or if I even can. I am working in Photoshop CS6. version 13.06 x 64.
Is it possible to insert a scale bar? I have searched all over but the only instruction I got was to click insert scale bar in the annotation pallette, but no such thing exists. Surely this should be easy enough?
This is in Acad 2013. This wasn't happening last week, and I don't know what changed. I have a small drawing file with a few point blocks with attributes and some lines I'm trying to insert into a main drawing. I've made sure that both files are set to "unitless" in the following variables:
I've run SCALELISTEDIT on both files and reset them to "metric and imperial scales", and saved both files. The base points in both drawings are 0,0,0. Both files are in the WCS.
I've run audit on both files. I've run purge in the main drawing to make sure it doesn't already contain a definition of the small drawing. I've rebooted the PC and restarted acad.
When I insert the small drawing into the main drawing, the points come in at the correct coordinates. But the lines connecting them and the point block attributes are scaled up by 39.3700787400 and are far away.
Is there any way of running a batch process to convert a number of AutoCad drawings into Tiff format, at once? Also, if a batch process is not available, can we save our plot settings for conversion to Tiff so that they can be recalled at a later stage? We would like to be able to transfer the same plot settings to other PCs so that we are all producing the same formatted files. Are the plot settings transferable?
When trying to export RAW files to TIF files I get following Warning message:
Unable to Export:
An internal error has occured: Win32 API error 2 ("The system cannot find the file specified.") when calling ShellExecuteExW from AgWorkspace.shellExecute.
This happpens in LR 4 and I never had this problem in previuos version.
sometimes i like to insert image into a Dwg. In 2012 i use to drag and drop the image from the source folder to autocad screen then i had the insert instructions, scale, position etc.
But i can't drag and drop images anymore in 2013, i have to use _imageattach icon to open the open manager then select an image.
Is there a way to reactivate the drag and drop feature in 2013 ? Must be a Variable to autorise that.
I was inserting blocks. I was trying to insert more than one block at the same time. If I have to insert each block every single time, that's just so slow. There must be another way to make it easier to bring up more than one block at the same time.
I am using both Mac version and windows version of AutoCAD. In the mac version, when tried to open up block editor, for some reason, it says the BLOCKEDITOR = 0 (read only). I couldn't even get into block editor to make changes for my block.
I know I can create text and use "Insert Field" to have the filename automatically update in the title block. Is there a way to do the same thing with layout names when there are multiple layouts in one drawing file?
I'm having an issue with block selection menu not coming up- specifically when inserting a new block. When I click the icon, the menu flickers but then disappers. If I click anywhere on my screen, I get a error noise as if the menu is open and I have to press esc to be able to function CAD again. The same error happens when I want to print when I click "edit page setup" nothing shows up, yet I get the error noise as if it is up but nothing is there. All of this worked at one time, but when I was trying to create a new block, somehow I must have turned something off.
I am looking to reach the Autodesk Seek function from the ribbon menu, but cannot find the Content Panel on the Insert Tab. I did a little poking around in the .cuix, through the cui customization command, but cannot even find it. Is there a way to download this, or has the feature been removed for ACAD 2013?
I want to insert a word document with several pages in autocad by the OLE OBJECT function. The problem is the insert only the first page. How to follow the other pages?
I am working with surveying points and what I used to do was insert the dxf file containing the points to my drawing and they would be inserted with their correct scale. However, now in AutoCAD 2013, when I insert them they are in a different scale and I must adjust them. Is there anyway to have their original scale carry over in 2013?
In previous versions of AutoCad I would just double click on a block do my changes click the save changes button and then a save dialogue would come up with an option to change the insert point. Did this option go away in 2013 AutoCAD? I do not get this option anymore after I finish editing a block? This is very useful. Why would this go away?
