AutoCAD 2013 :: Check Annotative Box In DIMSTYLE?
Jan 29, 2013
Can a DIMSTYLE with annotative box checked be used in Layout or Paper Space? If so, are dimension at risk of losing their associative to part being dimension or be subject to change their Scale Factor when moving model or a different user (machine) opens the file?

I am having problems getting the CAD Standards Checker - Dimstyle plug-in to correctly recognize Annotative dimstyles.
I should point out that this error occurs in both AutoCAD 2011, and AutoCAD 2012 (which these screen shots are from)
My DWS file is correctly configured to have the dimstyle set to be annotative:
Then, I save this file to be a DWT file for our company's standard drawing template.
However, when I configure standards and add the DWS file to the DWT file ...even though the files are identical... I run the standards checker and get this!
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is the CAD Standards Checker not properly recongizing the Annotative Dimension Style?
System specs:
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit - SP1CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T @ 3.51GHzMem: 16GB DDR3HD: 64GB SSD

I've been working on a lisp to set up basic settings such as text styles, dim styles, discipline specific layers and things of that nature.
I have a prompt to ask for a discipline designator as a string. I want to have an If statement or a conditional to read that string and check for a "C" if it finds it I want to have it set up a dimstyle to decimal feet ect and if not do it as architectural units.
This is just a test lisp that I'd like to add to the main one listed above...
(defun c:test(/ disc dsnm dsna)
(setq disc (getstring "
Discipline (G,C,S,M,E,CP): ")) ;Prompt for Discipline
(setq ds (getint "
Dimscale Factor: ")) ;Prompt for Dimscale
[code].......

In a drawing with multiple dimstyles, my dimscale always goes back to (1) when switching from one dimstyle to another. Even after I set the dimscale for "dimstyle 1" and I then set and use "dimstyle 2", when I go back to "dimstyle 1" I have to set the dimscale again.
How do I set it to where I can set the dimscale once for each dimstyle. All dimstyles have the same dimscale.

I'm sure this has been addressed in these hollowed posts but a search didn't turn it up. I have a dimstyle with primary units format set to "Fractional" and would like the inch (") marks to come in. I know i can add the inch mark as the suffix, but is there a better way? Archetectural and Engineering formats both include the inch marks and this makes sense to me. But if "fractional" format is not inches, then what would it be?

I am running Inventor 2013 with vault 2013 on a brand new system. Everything was working great for a week or so, then inventor started to lock up during checkin. It would lock up with even a small simple part. I had the IT department try to remote in and change settings, with not luck. Then they "rebuilt" the system over again, this got things working for about another week and after that the problem started up again.

I would like to change our office template to have one text style and one dimension style that shows up at 1/8" tall text in any viewport scale. This would also include setting up the multiple global settings. Is this possible?

I'm currently trying to make an MV block which is a combination of a 2D symbol and its 3D representation. I want the 2D symbol to scale in line with the annotation scale so have set the annotative flag on my symbol block but I do not want the 3D representation to scale so this does not have the flag set. However, when I put the two blocks into my MV block and then alter the annotation scale, both the 2D and 3D blocks both scale.
Is there something more that I need to be doing to to make the two blocks act independently and comply with the annotative flag set on them? I have seen this behaviour work on MEP2013 but can't see anything different on its 'devices' and my simple blocks.

IN Autocad 2013, I'm trying to measure an annotative dimension. When I do it, it doesn't show the units along with the measurement.
For instance, it just shows up 24 when in fact I want it to say 24". Or if it was metric I would want the "m" to show up after the 24. How do I get the unit to appear?

so in one drawing, the annotative scales of the objects are listed as 1" = 30' etc, and in the drawing i have them xref'ed into are 1:30. the only way i can get the annotative txt to show up is to make them non-annotative.
im assuming it has to do with the difference of 1:30 and 1" = 30'.

In AutoCAD 2011 and 2012 my spell check instantly recognizes a misspelled word as soon as you enter a space after the word as you type.
AutoCAD 2013 does not recognize the misspelling until I go back (still within the text editor) and click on the word. Only then will it show the red underline. This is using Dtext only. Mtext works fine.
For the bad spellers or missed keystrokes, the fast "on the fly" spell checking was great. How to get my AutoCAD 2013 to behave similarly?

I've got a dynamic block for an irrigation spray head that I want to make annotative. My problem is that I need to spray radius (i.e. 15', 10') to stay the same, but the head symbol and text to scale with the viewport. So far I've only been able to make the entire block annotive. I've attached a of the block for refence.

I am trying to learn Annotative text using multiple viewports. My question: I have text in Model space with Annotative scales to match two different viewports in layout space. Sometimes the text or dimensions for that matter appears in a different place in the two windows. What gives?

When I insert Annotative blocks and change the scale drawing (E.g. 1:100 to 1:200), attributes of Annotative blocks move to anywhere. I tried already ANNORESET and ATTSYNC, and it solved at that moment. But when I close and open the file, the problem appears again. I have to apply ANNORESET and ATTSYNC every moment. How can I definitely solve this problem?

Is there a way when creating hatches, for it to ignore annotative leaders? If the line of the leader crosses the area to be hatched, it breaks at the line. But if the arrow crosses the area, it totally freaks out and won't do what it's supposed to (usually inverses what is to be hatched.)
There REALLY needs to be an option to ignore mleader & mtext objects...

I have recently started working with civil3d 2012 & 2013 so go easy one me...
How can i check the elevations of 2 alignments that cross (junction)?
The localization team in Israel has added a utility that marks the junction on the profile view with a red flag and 2 marker lines, one for the existing ground and one for the elevation of the crossing alignments. The flag is not a civil3d entity, it's not dynamic and needs to be reset after each change.
Any better way of checking the elevations? (including adding a block or anything to the profile to show the other alignment name and elevation).

The spell check works, almost. when I type a word that spell check does not recognize, I get the red underline, but when I choose to add it to dictionary, no dice. if I ignore, close the editor and reopen, the red underline is there.
What to do, what to do?

Im trying to keep annotative blocks in the same spot on different scale viewports. The main issue Im having is, when i have a lets say house plan in viewport #1 and have all my blocks in place that I moved copyed from my template. When I open another viewport at a diffrent scale the blocks move. Im useing a large number of blocks for electrical symbols we use at work that I need to be in every viewport so we can copy them and place them where needed on the plan.

I am running Autocad arch 2011 (as Autocad 2011) and a co worker is using Autocad electrical 2012 and when he works in a drawing of mine the every annotative scale that is used in the file is attached to every annotative object. Which means I have to go through every object and delete scales that should be be there....all my annotative objects appear in every view port because every annotative object has every scale..

Annotative block moves when annotation scale changed,
The solution for this problem is mentioned in the link below but sounds not to be useful:
[URL]....
I got a block that contains an attribute (attached) and created on layer zero while the current annotation scale is 1:100. As this annotation scale is changed (say to 1:200 or 1:50) this block moves from its original place to another one (as shown in the attached screenshots).

I have a co-worker who needs to create a block where the attributes scale with the anno scale, but the block container does not. He's creating a tree block and wants the canopy and trunk attributes to scale without scaling the tree symbol.
Making an attribute annotative and applying the scales to the attributes doesn't seem to work if the block itself isn't annotative.
Are we missing something, or is this just not possible?

I just made myself another toolpalette, and the icons/images don't show up.Well, none of the icons/images show up except for the Junction Box (J with a circle around it.)I found that the Junction Box block is the only one that is NOT Annotative. All the other ones are ANNOTATIVE (as they should be.)
In Windows Explorer, it looks like images were saved for each new block I inserted into the toolpalette, but the images are blank except for the Junction Box of course. Is there a special way you have to put your Annotative blocks into a toolpalette so the icon/image shows up??

i created a method that creates a "DIMSTYLE":
private ObjectId CreateDimstyle() { DimStyleTable dimStyleTable = (DimStyleTable)transaction.GetObject(database.DimStyleTableId, OpenMode.ForRead); DimStyleTableRecord dimStyleTableRecord = null; if (dimStyleTable.Has(configuration.EXTDIMStyleName) == false) { if (dimStyleTable.IsWriteEnabled == false) dimStyleTable.UpgradeOpen(); dimStyleTableRecord = new DimStyleTableRecord(); dimStyleTableRecord.Name = configuration.EXTDIMStyleName; dimStyleTable.Add(dimStyleTableRecord); transaction.AddNewlyCreatedDBObject(dimStyleTableRecord, true); } else { dimStyleTableRecord = transaction.GetObject(dimStyleTable[configuration.EXTDIMStyleName], OpenMode.ForWrite) as DimStyleTableRecord; } dimStyleTableRecord.Dimscale = configuration.EXTDIMScale; dimStyleTableRecord.Dimtdec = configuration.EXTDIMPrecision; dimStyleTableRecord.Dimlunit =
[code]...
Works well. But I think it would be more correct to put the text style in the style of the dimension. As in AutoCad.
I was looking at the properties of "DIMSTYLE."
[URL]
But found no one to set "TEXTSTYLE" pattern to my "DIMSTYLE".How can I do this?

The only way to change dimensions that I know of is DIMSTYLE. I know how to make new dimensions styles and such, but I am having trouble setting the dimension styles by LAYER.
I currently have a pretty good solution but it would be better if it was automatically set by layer. I just qselect a layer, go to the properties, and change it all at the same time in the end.
Is this possible? Might there be a better way? If you are wondering why I am mixing dimensions, it's because I send my drawings to several different people and companies, and they only need to work with certain aspects of my drawings.

i've run into this quite a few times where i would open a drawing and there would be an override on the current dimstyle...i would clear the override and save the drawing...another day i would open the file and the override is created again...
i greatly suspect that the annotation scale is the culprit...when i check the dimstyle override the scale for dimension under the fittab is set to a number reflecting the scale...ie if the annotation is 1"=1'-0" it will be 12...if it's 1/4"=1'-0" it will be 48 etc...
i also noticed that an override is created after editing a dynamic block...
in addition to the above, the override is not created if the anotative scale is the same as the "fit" number...

I have attached the block for reference. Now that I have found the error of my way with the annotative cutline. I have a slab-on-grade block that needs to have annotative hatches; I also need the cutline to be annotative and dynamic so that as the drawing scale changes the scale of the cutline will be match and I can adjust the length of the extension lines. I have made the cutline a nested annotative and dynamic block within the slab-on-grade block. When I insert the block into my drawing the cutline is annotative and the dynamic grips show up but they do not work.
