AutoCAD 2013 :: Units Of Objects From Tools Palettes?
Sep 19, 2012
Units of objects from the tools palettes, I’m wondering in which unit does the objects of the tool palettes are inserted. For example, as my drawing unit is meter, I need them to be inserted in meter to fit well with my drawing.
Software: AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD C3D, AutoCAD M3D, Revit
Windows 7 (Ultimate 64 bits),
Firefox 20.0,
Kaspersky 2013.

We need to xref a drawing with a different unit. When I go into the drawing file I want to xref and use the "-DWGUNITS" command I change it from feet to inches and use Architectural. Answer yes to all questions and certain objects disappear. Most of the objects are pline or spline objects. Here is what I see in the AutoCAD Text Window:
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD3C>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD3E>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD3F>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD41>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD42>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD44>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD45>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity FD47>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity 1956F>
Scaling failed for: <AcDbZombieEntity 19570>
There a lot more of scaling failed messages. too many to show. How can I xref in these drawings with different units without objects disappearing?

For some reason, all of my customized objects in my tool palettes have disappeared. The tabs themselves are still there, but everything on them is gone. I found all the files for my missing objects listed in my Tool Palette folder and I verified that the the path is set up correctly. I'm currently using LT '07 on Windows XP.

I don't know if this has been reported but I found out today when working on a web design (hence working in the new unit - pixels) that you can't actually use the Dimension tools for measuring pixels. That's a pity because often you need to work with exact pixel dimensions when making websites and here the Dimension tools could come in very handy. It seems counting pixels by hand is a bit old-fashioned. Of course you can use calculations, but still...

I have just updated from 2012 to 2013, I've transferred all the necessary support file as I always do.I am trying to add a new Pallette to my custom Pallette group. However, when I try to drag blocks into the new Palette AutoCAD won't allow me to do so. I have to drag them first into another existing Palette, then drag them into the new one.
Then I have the problem of the New Palette disappearing when I next open Cad. Even after the New Palette .atc file appears in my support folder and I save my Workspace profile.

I'm using AutoCAD 2014. When we upgraded from 2013 I migrated all of my tool palettes and settings over to 2014 earlier this year. All seemed normal up until Friday when I created a new palette. That part was normal, but when I tried to drag a block from Design Center to that tool palette it wouldn't populate. It seemed like it was going to, it gave me that typical >---< under where the block would show up in the tool palette, but when I tried to release it in the palette, nothing.
Additionally, if I right click on a directory/folder in design center and select "Create Palette of Blocks" (which I have done a million times before), it will create the tab of the directory/folder I have created but does not populated it with the blocks within that directory/folder. Leaving me with a blank Tool Palette.

At my previous place of employment I used ACAD 2010 and ACAD 2011 Design Suites. One of the programs had tool palettes and/or design centers that enabled me to build my structures choosing blocks of wall types, windows, casework and doors, trees via a palette all in 3d and 2d form. I was able to change my views all around the 3d model and walk thru it with a camera. I did several homes using this program. I don't know what the difference is but ACAD 2013 does not appear to have it.

I want to share toolpalettes for multi-users in a network.
i create a share-folder with full-write-and-read-status for the cad-admin. then i added the folder into the _toolpalettepath-definition in the acad-options. all other users only have only-read-status for this folder.
this folder will be define in the first position of this list.
in theorie this will work - but now a costumer test this configuration. the problem is, that texts and seperator-lines in the paletten-defintion change the order - like example.
In other postings i read the name *.aws-files - but i did not understand the meaning of this file.

I've just installed 2013 and Service Pack 1.1 and downloaded (and installed) off line Help. All the Tool Palettes except my custom ones, are blank.
I can't find the command line, even after typing "commandline".And the search feature doesn't do anything. And I can't find where to send a helpdesk plea for support.

I just made the transition from AutoCAD 2009 to 2014 last week so I am unfamiliar with this version.
1-It's possible to have variables that are attached to the file?
2-It's possible to insert a block of ToolPalettes by "forcing" the layer and size with the variables created.
ex : block outlet created on the layer 0
Drawing A:
variable layer = power
variable size = 1/4
When I insert the block outlet from my Tool palettes it will be on the layer "PPOW" and perform a scale of "48"
Drawing B:
variable layer = LowPower
variable size = 3/8
When I insert the block outlet from my Tool palettes it will be on the layer"LPOW" and perform a scale of "32"

Due to circumstances beyond my control the directory path that my tool palettes are mapped to needs to be changed.
From: T:Toolpalettesetc...
To: X:Toolpalettesetc...
I have hundreds of blocks in the tool palettes that are looking for their source file on the "T" drive.
My brain says "Find / Replace T: with X: " using Notepad in all of the ATC files.
Is there a better method to tell those blocks to look on the "X" drive?

I just made myself another toolpalette, and the icons/images don't show up.Well, none of the icons/images show up except for the Junction Box (J with a circle around it.)I found that the Junction Box block is the only one that is NOT Annotative. All the other ones are ANNOTATIVE (as they should be.)
In Windows Explorer, it looks like images were saved for each new block I inserted into the toolpalette, but the images are blank except for the Junction Box of course. Is there a special way you have to put your Annotative blocks into a toolpalette so the icon/image shows up??

We are having an issue with Dimensioning and the Primary Units not maintaining the correct value. We use metric so the multiplier of 25.4 or .039370079 for Dim Scale Linear would be used in our Dimension Styles depending on if we are drawing in model space or annotating in paper space. We have created specific Dim Styles for Model and Paper space. Every so often some of us will us the Dim Style for paper space and a metric unit would be shown. When we go into the properties of that dimension and change the Dim Scale Linear to 1 it shows as a different dimension then it actually is. After looking at the correct dimenion, we noticed the Dim Scale Linear shows .9449 but gives the correct dimension.
Note: We are drawing in Metric a multiplier of 25.4, our dimensions are done in english. A scale factor of .039370079 is used to accomplish this.
There is a simple fix with Match Properties but it still doesn't answer why our dimension show up wrong with a different multiplier for Dim Scale Linear.

Using AutoCAD 2013, I have set my the placement of the alternate units to "Below primary value" (in Dimension Style), but they do not go underneath, they remain after the primary units. I tested in 2012, and it works fine there but not in 2013.

I have just upgraded from AutoCAD 2008 to 2013 so I'm unfamiliar with the latest set up & dont' have time to explore it properly yet. I see that 2013 has a different projection method for paper space views but for the present I am still using solview & soldraw which I am familiar with to get my work done on time.
In 2008 the 'Linetype manager' page let you tick a box 'Use paper space units for scaling' so that different paper space view ports would automatically scale line types to suit the viewport scale. To draw details of parts of a view I would normally copy the basic solview view port, alter its property to a layer named VPORT, scale this viewport to the desired scale to show what I want to detail & the linetypes would automatically scale so that they appear the same as in the original solview view port.
This pick box is not in the linetype manager page in 2013, how can I achieve this?
I have MSLTSCALE >0, LTSCALE>0.5 & PSLTSCALE >1

I've noticed an anomoly when working with XREF's and changing units. With the company that I work, we receive client drawings, XREF them in, and put our drawings on top of them. For this particular project, we have about 150 drawings that we are working with. The biggest problem is the drawings we receive are in various units, and we draw in millimeters. So when we go to XATTACH, we have to make sure the XREF drawing's units are set to mm, although most of them are not. So we navigate to the XREF drawing, open it, open the UNITS window, change it to millimeters, accept, save, and close the drawing. However, when we go back into the actual drawing to XATTACH again, the unit change in the XREF has not taken effect. Reopening the drawing and launching UNITS will show that, indeed, the unit change was not saved. Doing it a second time will take effect, but why do we have to do this dance in the first place?
This problem occurs about 50% of the time. I can't seem to find a pattern with it. If I make a change to the XREF drawing itself as well as changing the units (like moving the pan or zoom), but to no avail.

We have just recently install Building Design Suite Standard 2014 and the tool palettes DO NOT work.
Clicking on the standard palettes that load with ACAD will not even work. We have also tried to make new ones and the will not MAKE (for lack of words).
Here is the Autocad warning it gives us:
Unable to execute the tool. Possible causes are:
-The tool is not registered properly. Please check your installation.
-the tool is from another application and is incompatible with the current application.
We are running a new copy and it IS registered.

Our office created a library of blocks for use in our dwgs in the early days of Autocad. Since installing MEP2013 when inserting the blocks many of them have mysteriously changed from inches to millimeter units. We have to go back to each block(dwg) and change the units and rescale the blocks. We upgraded from MEP2012 and they were working fine.

I can get the leading zeros in the architectural dim style. My problem is I cant seem to get the leading zero in the parts list format. If I edit the parts list, then format column, there is no option to include leading zeros like in the dim styles.
We could format the parts list with the leading zero before....This is in 2013, BTW..
