What I would like to do is find a way to use a dynamic block, which has already been created, and once I put in the proper length, speed, type of conveyor, etc., it will automatically update an excel spreadsheet, for example a power estimate, or cost estimate sheet. Is this possible, if so, what is the quickest, and easiest way to do this?
Also, what formula would I use in excel to link back to the DWG?
I would like to link an Excel table to a SHP file via a column in commun. My SHP file and Excel Spreadsheet share one same column filled with numbers. So it's neither simply import Excel table, nor import with points.
But I don't know if I should use "Data Link" or "Add ODBC connection" or "FDO import", or some other fonctions...
Ok what I'm tring to do is have a spreadsheet that has a list of prices in it that we could modify if needed for all these parts i'm making. Best way is to have the spreadsheet obviously external of the file.Though now I do not know how to do this in iLogic.And example of what I'm trying to do is, with 3 parameters.

Value "A" and Value "B", these are just read items which when combined will give Value "P" to be imported into the Part file. So need A & B to be read and give the row number for P to be imported.
Regarding the conversion of an excel sheet into Illustrator variables... I am able to import an excel sheet into Illustrator datasets. I am curious if it is possible to link the excel file to the Illustrator data sets, so that when I alter something within the excel sheet, the data sets automatically change. Is this possible? Or must I always freshly convert/import the excel file?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to link text to each other through visibility states without creating a block within the DB? I have 2 visibility states. Right Section, and Left Section. All notes and text stays the same, geometry is the only thing that mirrors between states.
The hope is that when I update the text on the "Right Section" state, that the same text on the "Left Section" state automatically updates with what I did on the "Right Section".
I solved this by creating multiple blocks within the DB. That works great, however there HAS to be an easier way to do this.
I work at a machine shop and have a Dynamic Block setup with quite a number of Blocks in it where I can choose whichever tooling I am working with to place into a drawing.
I am also Data-Linking parts of the drawing to Excel that has information fields to be updated in the drawing for these same toolings.
I would like to setup my drawing so that when I update the data links from the Excel spreadsheet the Dynamic Block I mentioned will also be automatically updated and display the appropriate block drawing for the tooling retrieved from Excel.
I have a block which is a simple rectangle with a height and width attributes that when I edit, change or update the height and width attributes I want the rectangles height and width to change as well.
I know I can go backwards using fields and the attributes would show the stretched length and width but is it possible to go the other way?
I work for a company that makes sheet metal cabinets. Each cabinet we construct has 17 parts that all different different blank sizes and notching. I have a template for each part right now that I have to shrink or stretch to the appropriate size every time we get a custom size order.
What I've created so far is an excel spreadsheet that determines the sizes of all the parts based on the overall height width and depth of the custom cabinet that was ordered. Any way to define a parts properties with a dynamic block and get the width depth or height imported in from the excel spreadsheet to automatically adjust the size.

I have created d/blocks for my different pipe sizes i.e one block with a dropdown to select the different sizes and have done the same for my flanges. now how do I link / insert the flange d/block to the piping block so that I can export the information into a material list later on.

I need to build a series of constrained drawings using Dynamic blocks so I can send info from an Excel spreadsheet back and forth bewteen a drawing. I think I'll have to buy a 3rd party utility for that but for now, how to simply get the info out of ACAD and into Excel thsat would be a great start.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having an issue when printing to PDF from AutoCAD my Excel spreadsheets show up with gridlines that are not there in there Excel or CAD. I have tried a number of things to eliminate that lines (see list below) but nothing has worked so far. I am running AutoCAD 2012 and Excel 2003. I have inserted the spreadsheet using "Paste Special" so that I can continue to work on the spreadsheet in excel and it will update in CAD.
- I have changes the Plot Quality. In Monochrome the lines print. Low quality the spreadsheet does not show up. High quality again nothing shows up
- In Excel I have turned off the "Gridlines" and re-copied into AutoCAD. The lines still show up when printing to PDF
- If I paste as an AutoCAD Entity I can not update in Excel
I have a new issue that I am unsure what to do about.
This has never occurred with previous version of ACAD and this is the first time I created data links with Autocad 2012, and I am using the same procedure that I have successfully used in the past.
I have data tables linked to excel spreadsheets. I used the "TABLE" button on the ANNOTATE ribbon to place the table, and the layout of the cells assumes the layout of the excel spreadsheet, which is what I want.
As long as I don't Scale the table, I can Update the data table links just fine.
However when I scale the table and then update table links, the table layout changes drastically, and is undesirable.
I have tried locking the cells' but that will not fix the problem.
I want to keep the layout of the table that is assumed when I place the table originally. Is there any way to lock it as such?
We had a client who could not open our drawings that had linked Excel spreadsheets in them even though we supplied the spreadsheets. The drawings would crash AutoCAD when they tried to open them.
My solution was to open the drawings, pick on the Linked Spreadsheet OLE in the drawing, Ctrl+C (Edit > Copy) then I Edit > Paste Special > As Image. I would paste it in at the lower left corner of the existing spreadsheet.
I set the properties of the new OLE so the Lock Aspect Ratio was Off or No and drag the upper right corner of my newly inserted image to the upper right corner of the existing linked spreadsheet so it would be a perfect match.
I then erased the existing linked spreadsheet.
Now they can open the files and we don't need to include the spreadsheet when we send the files.

I am surveying a section of pipework and I need to display the brackets that are supporting the pipes. As there are numerous pipes on top of each other I have decided to show the brackets in plan and isometric view.
I think I have made the dynamic block ok and have numerous stretch/move and scale parameters working correctly.
But the only way that I can see of chaging these parameters at the momment is by manually typing them in the properties tool pallete for each individual block.
So I was thinking that if I can store the correct values that I need for each parameter in the dynamic block on our data logger along with the correct E,N,Z insertion point is it possible for this file to change the parameters in the dynamic block for example, If I have the correct insertion point stored and then have 10 parameters stored with that point for simplicity I store as A=5.00,B=8.00,C=0.100 etc and these correspond with the parameters in the dynamic block will this file be able to alter the dynamic block as the values in the excel/Text file are displayed.
I have opened an exported .dwg file from Vectorworks. I have been able to hide most items I wish to. My difficulty is that I have (what I think from reading and Youtube) is dynamic blocks (light instruments). They are on a layer that is turned off, yet they are still visible. I've played around in the block editor, but I really don't know what I'm doing. If need be I can delete the light instruments, but I'd rather not. If there is a command to hide all blocks? I tried to use the properties editor to change the color to white so they would disappear. That didn't work.

However when you insert the border block with the dynamic ones you can't do anything with them? Is there anyway of making the border 'flexible' or something so that it maintains the fact that it is a block with all the attributes but you can use the embedded dynamic ones. Other than the obvious edit block in place or block editor?

What i'm trying to do is have a block that contains a field linked to an object (Polyline) and read its length. My problem is that when you put a field in a block you have to define what it is looking for so if i select "Object" in the field its asking for that object while i'm in the block editor, is there any way to have it pause for user input so that i can select the object after the block has been inserted?

If I edit the block, change the layer of the leader and save it then the leader will show up in viewports. Other parts of the block are on the same layer and show up, it is just the leader for some reason.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy company just upgraded to 2013 from 2012, and we are having problems copying and moving dynamic blocks. As we try to re-insert the object(s) after using the copy or move command, they disappear from the screen. If we save the drawing and restart AutoCAD, the objects are there where we inserted them, but we cannot figure out how to make the objects reappear without restarting the program (Undo does not work).
The objects in question are dynamic blocks created with AutoCAD Civil3D 2012. We suspect this might have something to do with conflicts between the two different versions of AutoCAD but we're not sure. There are 5 or 6 of us who have this problem.
Dynamic blocks not working on one new office computer with AutoCAD 2013 - The problem seems mainly with the stretch feature. some features like flip and visibility states seem to work. The blocks are good, they work on other machines and on saved files from that computer.
We have tried doing a repair with the disk and updating with service pack 1.1.
Other computer have AutoCAD MEP 2013, but these are not MEP features.
I read an older post (2007) regarding the blocks not working due to the shortcut menus in drawing area no checked in the options, but that does not seem to be the issue.
I've made annotative blocks and I've made dynamic blocks... My intent is to integrate both but I can't find a way to move dynamic block parameters separately at different annotative scales.
In other words, if I insert an annotative dimension and add multiple scales I can move the dimension grips independently at each scale. If I insert a dynamic block I want to be able to use the dynamic block's action "grips" to do the same. However, with a dynamic block, if I move a stretch action at one annotation scale it moves the action at all annotation scales.
The attached file shows a simple example.
Is it possible to select visibilty states of a dynamic block in a drawing, for ex. to count how many of each visiblity are in a drawing?
Ex.:
I have a drawing of a big pile plan with al lot of various piles in there. I made one dynamic block of the pile in which i can select what kind of pile i want to have visible. Now i want to count how many of each pile is in the pile plan.
If all different piles would be different blocks i could easily count with 'Block Reference' in 'Quick Select', but i dont know how to do the same with a dynamic block (which has one block name only) and its different visibilities.
I created a library of Dynamic cabinets in AutoCAD LT 2013. I have tested them and used them in drawings. I just upgraded to 2104 and when I insert those same dynamic blocks into a drawing, the parameters do not show and i can not use the dynamic block as intended. when I click on it...tons ot grips show up and no parameters.

In one block, I have set the diameters of a circle restricted to 10 and 12-mm. I have a second block that also contains the circles which have similar restrictions. I now want to control the diameters of the circles from a single source - similar to shared parameters in Revit. Am I able to share a global parameter between blocks?
Eventually, I want to control a 2D drawing from a table only. Should I be using .Net or AutoLisp for this.
I have created a dynamic block with several visiblility states. The block works great for what I need it for. however, I am trying to add one more action to the block but am having issues.
This block is essentially a 24" retail cabinet with the visibility states showing the different drawer and shelf configurations. I want to be able to lengthen the cabinet in 24" increments and have the visibility show for each 24" section.....e.g. I want a 10' cabinet so I bring in the 24" starter block. Then stretch the cabinet to the 10' mark, then I can chose any drawer/shelve config for each 24" section (they are all different).
I can get the block to stretch in 24" sections....no problem.....i just want the visibility state to be duplicated as well for each section. Now as it stretches, there is only one Vis state and it only populates the first cabinet.
I could do this by copying the block over and over 5 times.....but I am hoping there is a way to make this dynamic.
I have a block I am making into a Dynamic Block. I will be adding in different visibility states. Depending on the visibility state the block would need to be inserted from a different point.
My question is, is it possible to add multiple insertion points to a dynamic block so depending on the visibility state it defaults to the correct insertion point?
Well I had a day and a half trying to figure out how to bring Excel data into LT. Again. Here is what I have found out:
Running Excel 2010 I have a xls files (of type '97-2003 xls - file includes VBA). The file spits out a ton of data that I want to put in a schedule in AutoCAD. The schedule format needs to match our standard format - RomanS in white and blue.
If I copy and paste as a link the font remains stuck as Arial (regardless of source font) and can't be relaxed unless you go one cell at a time in the text editor. Also the resultant table size is tiny -
If I save the file to .XLSM (macro enabled '10 excel file) the results are the same. If I save the file to .XLSX ('10 excel file and ditch the VBA project) the results are sublime - the font is ok and I can go back and forth from AutoCAD to my now broken spreadsheet because VBA IS MISSING! The resultant table size is tiny but I can deal. I don't see how AutoCAD can work with xlsx but not xlsm.
I also found that if I save the sheet (values only) as a .csv file I can use that to create a table from file without font overrides screwing everything up.
I'm running AutoCAD LT 32bit on a Win7 32bit OS. My Office version is 2010. I would like to link data to a '97-'03 version of an xls or an xlsm without having the font overridden to Arial.
