I have a set of dimensions in meters and I am trying to automatically convert to feet. So I am going to the Dimension Style that rules the numbers that I want to convert and after clicking in Modify button>Primary Units I go to Linear dimensions group and change the Unit format from decimal to Architectural and 100 m turns to 8' - 4" not to 328.08'.
View 3 RepliesI have been sent a DWG floor plan from a firm in South America. The existing file is Type: Decimal and Units to scale: Meters. We need to convert the file to a useable architectural and feet set up. I know that I will need to scale the existing dwg however I am not sure what the exact steps are or what I should scale it by. Should I change the drawing units first and then scale? Or the other way around? Biggest thing I need is the scale factor.

So far what's happening is that I end up with all the z values multiplied by 3.08... (I assume it is trying to convert the meters to feet..., but since I already have feet in the DEM ... no good)
How could i know if i'm using meters, and not inches, feet or millimeters? and how to set autocad to use meters not inches, feet, nor millimeters.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI imported a shape file drawn with a utm signature with the dbf and shx files associated with it.The field map looks exactly like it is supposed to but when i dimension different places the dim are in what i think are utm measurements( ie .0069).When i draw a line at say 200 feet the line is astronomical in comparison. I can't seem to figure out where to change the scale.I have never used the auto map before and am using the trial version.

When I had ACAD 2008 I used to copy objects and type 10' or 4' for the distance3 rather than 120 or 48. For some reason in ACAD 2013, it does not accept my distance in feet anymore. Do I suddenly have a setting off in ACAD 2013? I used to be able to work much more quickly and I work with large distances when copying.

Rather than changing units in command UNITS Inches and Architectural, and SCALE 25.4, is there any other way to switch metric to imperial systems. Scaling somewhat does the trick but, provided dimensions remain in mm.
Is there a way to get the Area option of the rectangle command to work in square feet rather than square inches?

I have one task in this total models(parts and assemblies) having imperial dimensions but customer wants total dimensions in metric form with rounded value.
mean while all the dimensions directly convert to metric form dimensions are having many decimal places but customer wants ronded value like for example <1.5 is 2 and >1.5 is 1 like this. one more example is 2.56 is 3 and 2.46 is 2 like this.
Out of nowhere my AutoCAD commands such as line, offset, circle, etc will only work if i type in the amount in inches. I use feet / inches when i use these commands. It says specify second point... Not sure what this means. For example I want to offset a line 15'-8". It won't let me do that. If i offset a line at 146" it lets me do it.

The DGN either displays the solid, which isn't visible in a Microstation extraction or it just exports the centrelines/linework and not the solids.
Is this possible in newer version ? i.e. 2013/2014.
I've tried the export to ACIS .sat file and that works fine, but it moves everything to the same lavel/layer which defeats to object of seperatng the items in the first place.
I just finished a project without using any coordinate system (it shows none), and now i need it to be in ll84 coordinate system. Is there a way to convert it? When i try to do it, the streets go to a random location (in a random longitude and latitude), and even if i move it to the right place it doesnt work, because the scale of the drawing doesnt seem to be right, and i cant manage to fix it.

I converted one of the files to a .DWG and impoted all the linetypes to my template. This had a lot of bad side effects.
How to extract the actual code for the Linetypes, so that i can simply re-write a code as autocad wants it and then import?

Dimensions layer is OK (it is not "no plot" layer, "VP Freeze" is off), especially that this layer contains some other elements that are visible.
I have a query as to how I could automate the replacing of selected individual lines with predetermined sized rectangular blocks centered on the line at the angle and on the “0” layer . See attached file:
The rectangle need not necessarily be a polyline, 4 single lines would be sufficient. And whether the original line is or is not replaced is unimportant either.

the only solution i have is to convert the drawing to a pdf then convert it back to a dwg using a pdf to dwg converter.
the reason being i dont want my client to work out how i construct my drawings.
I installed a brand new install of 2013 Product Design Suite Premium on a new machine. When I go to run Inventor everything seems to work fine. I make a drawing of a part and export to DWG. That's a requirement here. When I go to open the file in AutoCAD, the hatch pattern doesn't show and it looks like the boundaries for the hatch move to 0,0,0. Very stange and I haven't been able to figure this out. I installed Premium on another machine and performed the same export. Works fine on the other machine. The other machine however, has 2012 installed as well. Could this simply be a bad install?
