AutoCAD 2013 :: Civil Tag Scaling
Oct 25, 2013
We receive site survey dwgs generated in Civil 3D that contain 3D topos with elevation tags. The elevation tags are clearly scalabe anno objects that scale correctly in the received civil dwg. The elevation tags won't scale correctly in our dwgs - they come in too small to see.
- Both dwg's have units set to decimal.
- I tried copying / pasting the viewport from the civil dwg to our dwg and the text is still too small. This tells me it's a dwg specific variable and not a viewport setting.
- I have Civil 3D object enabler installed, though I don't think this has any bearing.
It would be nice to use the original tags and not have to re-create every elevation tag.

Lets say that I want d drawing to be printed on scalw 1:50 why do I need to input at the plot properties 20mm to 1 unit in order to get it correct?
Also different question. If i want to print on paper roll and the one dimension of my drawing is 297 (A3) and the other dimension is undifined how can i set the paper size? Because under the drop down menu paper size the sizes are all fixed.

I'm trying to scale down 3D drawings but when I use the 3DSCALE command the perspective gets distorted. Is there a way I can scale my drawing without messing up the perspective?

I am having problems to scale 2d objects I use the command scale but when it request a base point it said "extremely small scale factor ignored" I have to do this 5 or 6 times until the command works.
The other thing is that I can not do a 1 dimension scale in 2D.

This is in Acad 2013. This wasn't happening last week, and I don't know what changed. I have a small drawing file with a few point blocks with attributes and some lines I'm trying to insert into a main drawing. I've made sure that both files are set to "unitless" in the following variables:
INSUNITS = 0
INSUNITSDEFSOURCE = 0
INSUNITSDEFTARGET = 0
I've run SCALELISTEDIT on both files and reset them to "metric and imperial scales", and saved both files. The base points in both drawings are 0,0,0. Both files are in the WCS.
I've run audit on both files. I've run purge in the main drawing to make sure it doesn't already contain a definition of the small drawing. I've rebooted the PC and restarted acad.
When I insert the small drawing into the main drawing, the points come in at the correct coordinates. But the lines connecting them and the point block attributes are scaled up by 39.3700787400 and are far away.

When I type in the command "SC" for scaling the object, it'll asks me to specify base point then I can enter what scale I want it to be, such as 2 times or 0.5 for half sacle.
with the new 2013 version, sometimes it'll exit the command if I select the insertion point of the block or if the object is at the 0,0,0 location of the drawing. it'll also give a message of "the scaling factor is too small". But I haven't enter what scale I want to scale the object yet.

Is there a way to set the Multileader scale for DIMSCALE when it is on the tool palette like you are able to do with every other block? Maybe a lisp routine so set the Multileader style and to dimscale?

I still have a problem with copy and pasting drawings in the right units. I checked discussions but nothing seems to work. To make things less confusing for me I'll explain the situation in detail:
- I have a drawing file, in metres, that I want to copy to another file.
- My second drawing, in inches, is where I want to paste the drawing from the first file.
Let's say I have a line that's 1 m in the first drawing. When I paste onto the second drawing, it pastes as 1 in.
I tried insunits, units, etc. but it always comes out small when I paste it. Manually scaling the files will lose the accuracy.

I'm currently trying to make an MV block which is a combination of a 2D symbol and its 3D representation. I want the 2D symbol to scale in line with the annotation scale so have set the annotative flag on my symbol block but I do not want the 3D representation to scale so this does not have the flag set. However, when I put the two blocks into my MV block and then alter the annotation scale, both the 2D and 3D blocks both scale.
Is there something more that I need to be doing to to make the two blocks act independently and comply with the annotative flag set on them? I have seen this behaviour work on MEP2013 but can't see anything different on its 'devices' and my simple blocks.

how you get objects, say i drew a rectangle, to the correct size from model space to paper space. And why when you change the dimensions of an object to meters from milimeters, does it not change the size of the object on paperspace when it's at the same scale.

I'm rendering an equipment shelter that sits atop a gravel pad. I've picked the "Gravel Crushed" material, and it looks OK, but I'd like to be able to scale the material so it isn't so "fine". I'd like it to be more coarse.
How to change the scale of the material?

I have just upgraded from AutoCAD 2008 to 2013 so I'm unfamiliar with the latest set up & dont' have time to explore it properly yet. I see that 2013 has a different projection method for paper space views but for the present I am still using solview & soldraw which I am familiar with to get my work done on time.
In 2008 the 'Linetype manager' page let you tick a box 'Use paper space units for scaling' so that different paper space view ports would automatically scale line types to suit the viewport scale. To draw details of parts of a view I would normally copy the basic solview view port, alter its property to a layer named VPORT, scale this viewport to the desired scale to show what I want to detail & the linetypes would automatically scale so that they appear the same as in the original solview view port.
This pick box is not in the linetype manager page in 2013, how can I achieve this?
I have MSLTSCALE >0, LTSCALE>0.5 & PSLTSCALE >1

When I have to scale something after bringing it in from another drawing (Windows copy, paste), usually (but strangely not always, it seems) the dimension text and arrows are all messed up. If I scale down, they are (obviously) way too big, up, and they are microscopic. How is this best avoided / dealt with? I imagine it is something with the DIMSTYLE not being copied over or something?

How do I accurately set the scale on a raster underlay based on 2 (or more) points where I know the distance between them?
In fact I would like to do this on 2 axes separately so that it stretches.
I am used to georeferenceing like this and getting raster underlays the right shape for the coordinate system I am using. How I can do this in AutoCAD, which used a very simple coordinate system.

My plan designer uses Chief Architect and has converted his drawing into a DWG for me to use in AutoCAD 2013. When I open the drawing however, it is not to scale. I've tried importing it using the copyclip command to a blank drawing but it doesn't convert to scale. When I've tried using the scale command it doesn't scale properly.

I have a drawing that was given to me by an architect with a scale 1:250 (0.004 in viewport). The architect drew everything in millimeters and it's a Site Plan, why ? I do not know. The units in the drawing are decimal-millimeters.
The page set-up for layout 1 was for 24x36 drawing size (typ.)I know need to make a layout 2 for a sheet size 11x17 but I can not get my viewport to scale correctly. So, if a 24x36 sheet size had a VP with scale 0.004 (1:250) then what is the scale for a sheet size 11x17 ?

Previously in LDD when I had a project i needed to transfer from grid to ground I could simply create a block of everything. Scale the entire block from a mid point of the site, explode the block, run check points and done.
Now in C3D 2012 when I explode my block it changes my elevations too. Yikes!!!! Luckily I had a copule of points
elevations labled and I noticed the new "Feature" of scaling my elevations too.
My site is 4,500' across and grid to ground changes it 0.32'
Is there a setting to change this behavior?

i'm working on a drawing started by someone else. They do everything in model space...no paperspace and no viewports. drawing and border are both in model space. I'm not used to just model space.
How do i set the scale of the drawing in model space? do i need to use different size borders to get the correct scale? I'm drawing everything 1:1 and i need my final prints to be on 11x17 paper.
on a previous drawingi see that they used a scale of 1/16"=1' but how they determined this scale. going thru other sheets in the setd of drawings it seems that they used different border sizes (but all are printed on 11x17 paper)...some are printed not to scale if they have no set scale...like details.
example of what i need to do:
I need to show a building rooftop plan view (the entire rooftop) on one sheet. on the next sheet i need to zoom into a portion of the rooftop.
normally i would use viewports to do this. but in model space i dont see how this is done. do i need to have a set of different size borders? but how then can i print them on 11x17 without using "scale to fit"?

Any way to scale points, and or objects in a 2 dimensional manner only? I've got a bunch of survey points imported from a csv file, and they are at a grid scale. I need to scale the data by a factor of 1.000125 in this case to get ground distances between the points for the client. I do not want the elevations to change.
In LDDT this was not an issue as I always had the points inserted at zero elevation, but they maintained the elevation data as part of the point. It seams that in Civil 3D my points automatically appear at true elevation, so when I scale a group of points, the elevations changes as well as the elevation of any lines connected to the points. Is there a way to work 2 dimensionally with 3D data?

ps. I've attach a pic of 2 CAT rigs, bigger one being the source and smaller one is the target.

Point label styles do not scale properly in raster plots. Raster plots have long been my fix for making wipeouts and masks behave. Without the excellent fix raster plots have been, I'm sunk! All of my work depends upon raster plotting to maintain consistently correct output with absolutely no wipeout or masking errors. My point label styles all have a text height of 0.11" which is the plotted height according to the documentation. They are exactly the right height in all page setups with non-raster plot devices. But, when my page setup includes a raster device the text is scaled to just a speck. It should be 32 pixels high at the 288 pixels per inch I have specified but it is barely two or three pixels high both on my display and in my ploits.
The attachments show the wipeout/mask problem in 2012 DWF output and the rescaling of point labels in 2012 raster (TIFF) output. I am in critical need of a fix that does not involve special point label styles just for raster plots. Autodesk!? I already have to use a special pen tables for raster plots with pens sizes scaled for each dpi resolution I use but that has been settled for many years now.

I have two files...
File 1: with a Profile View => Units set to Meters and Scale set to 1:100
File 2: Units set to Milimeters, Model Space Scale set to 1:100 (same as File 1), Viewport Scale set to 1:100 , Plot style scale set to 1:1
Now I want to X-Ref the "File 1" into "File 2" but when I do that, Civ3D scales all the Profile Labels to huge size. I understand, it has to do with different units (meters and millimeters) set in both file... but thats the way I want this to be...
Please note, in File 2: Model Space scale 1:100 is different than Viewport Scale 1:100, because Model Space scale 1:100 is coming from "File 1" which is set to Meters.
I even tried to keep both Model Space Scale and Viewport Scale same in "File 2" but that didn' work either.

For some reason when I edit text and dimensions in model space the text will go huge and my text is non-annotative. If i change it in properties box it does not multiple it or if I am editing text though a viewport it will not multiply. Example - if I have style set to 4 (height) and I create mtext.
Then I decide that I want text to be 5 so I double click on mtext and highlight the text and change to 5 and the text will instantly be 200 not 5, but if I change in properties box it will stay at 5 or if I am in a viewport and change the text by double clicking and highlighting and then changing it to 5 it stays at 5. My issue is for whatever reason only in model space is the text being multiplied by a factor and I cannot figure out why this is happening.

When plotting profile plan sheets, there is an error in the scaling of the grids. I can not seem to figure out why the plotter is not plotting correctly. I did try creating a pdf of the plan sheet and plotting, but still have the same scale error. It starts to get off scale after about 500 feet, so the error in scale is small, but still there. It is off by about 2 or 3 feet at 500 feet on the profile grid.

I love annotative scaling of objects it is a great feature. I am however having one problem that I'm not sure if I've missed a setting or something. Is there a way to prevent civil 3d from scaling your annotative objects based on the view scale you are looking at? For example if I zoom out (in model space or max viewport) to show my entire drawing and regen, civil 3d scales all my text and blocks to an enomous scale esentially blocking my entire drawing with solid colour. also if I zoom into a small area to do some detail work all my text becomes microscopic and unuseable. This makes adjusting text so it doesn;t overlap other text very difficult if it never appears at the correct size. Is there a way to freeze annotative objects at thier correct scale (for the current viewport scale) so they dont scale simply because you zoom in or out on a drawing?

New Responsive Scaling feature is great.
It's enabled me to add an Edge Animate file to my responsive Wordpress site using the Edge Suite Plugin.
Only problem for me is that although the 3.7MB file I’ve created scales perfectly on all devices it struggles to play on smartphones. (I assume it's too big and too power hungry to play smoothly on smartphones - even since I've added a pre-loader.)
So, in an ideal world, what I need is a separate low res Edge Animate file that only plays on smartphones.
Failing that, I’d be happy with a 'Down-level Stage' image which could replace the Edge Animate animation.
For a moment I thought I’d found a solution when I came across this Adobe TV movie: [URL]
Unfortunately this clever solution only works when the new Responsive Scaling feature is NOT selected. As soon as it is selected, the animation no longer changes from one layout size to another when the browser window is reduced.
I don’t mind whether the fix is in Edge Animate, Wordpress or the Edge Suite Plugin - I just want a solution!

We are designing some web graphics for a friend. By "we" I mean me and a guy who lives on the opposite coast.
He did the initial page layout/design as a PhotoShop tif, at 300 dpi, in layers and about 5 inches wide. The idea, on his end, was that it would be a small file size and, therefore, faster to download on my end. With me so far?
Anyway, I'm suppose to convert it to 800 ppi wide, 72 dpi, jpg. Sounds easy enough. Or not Do all the scaling and now the graphics don't look right. None of the layer effects are right!
How do I scale his graphic, for my purposes and, once it's the size I need it, have everything look the way he created it?
Example: Text at that 5 inch wide, 300 dpi size with a one point stroke on it looked find when the graphic was 5 inch wide and 300 dpi, but at 800 ppi wide and 72 dpi, it's all wrong
Is there a preference or something I should be clicking somewhere and I'm just missing it?
