I'm fairly new to AutoCad and i'm using it on a mac. How I go about getting one drawing into another document without having to redraw it?
I have a plan and elevations in seperate documents and how to get the elevations into the same document as the plan without having to redraw every elevation.
I have a slightly unusual query that I can't seem to find a solution for elsewhere. I have an existing OS plan that is 'off grid', and would like to adjust the vertices at the ends of all the existing lines and polylines so that they all sit on a grid point. Is there a quick command or script that does this?

What I would like is to be able to set the position of the Coordinate Label and Coordinate Object independently, so that if I move one in the drawing, it doesn't move the other. I've looked into Dynamic Blocks, and the "Lock Position" parameter. I can move the attribute independently, but still everytime I move the block, the attribute moves too.
Our company uses a custom Sheet/Coordinate system to follow flyoffs across a drawing, and I'm trying to learn how to automate the process. It's completely manually right now, so any changes to a drawing creates a lot of work renumbering these flyoffs.

The question I wanted to ask the devs out there is that, is there any way or a function to move a text object within a layer to a different geometric location? I was thinking it could be accomplished by translating the text or offsetting it.
I need to move a PDF within it's own box to another drawing. It's acknowledged as a DWG.
The DWG. is something I can't upload.
Describing the box is kind of hard. It has its own perimeter and reacts fine within it's own DWG and behaves normally, and there's no message when trying to move it or Copy it.
But, when Copying into a new drawing, then it doesn't come through. There's no error message or any sign of it on the the new DWG. The background comes in fine, so there's no issue there. All X-REF's are working.
my Addin changes the coordinate systems of some occurrences in a while(running) - loop. After each iteration, i want to update the 3D-View in Inventor to show the calculated changes. For this, i call the Update Method of the current View (ActiveView property of Application).
Unfortunately, the redraw does not happen unless i keep moving the mouse over the window. Is there another method / way to achieve the desired result (forced redrawing for smooth animations)? The Update method of the Document does not seem to work, either.
Using Inventor2011 64 Bit on Win7 (64Bit)
I have a task to redraw floor plans of an existing object (5 floors of 5000m2)... The problem lies in the existing drawings which contain incorrect dimensions.
Now, since the shape and position of elements is generally correct I am able to approximate to a 0.5-1.0m (witch I find annoying).
My question is:
How would you do the task having in mind that when SOME correct dimensions turn up (are measured on site) correcting the rest doesn't become a pain.
I am inputting coordinates as to retain accuracy, but sometimes I realize the origin point moves and coordinates no longer work. How do I prevent it from moving, or is there a way to specify coordinates relative to another object?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to move a component within a part drawing, not an assembly. When I do "move bodies" it wants to move every extrusion within my drawing. If I click move face, then I have to click every face that I want to move (which is time consuming) and then it often times doesn't work? Sometime it works other times it just moves the origin indicator and doesn't move the faces I have selected.

Is it possible to create the part as it would be machined and then use the EOP marker to set each view. Would like to model one part and get all views.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf you look at the attached drawing you will see my drawing sheets. The problem I have is regarding the attributes used for the 'Checked By' section of my sheet.
Yesterday I added a 'Size' tag to my sheet so this shows whats size paper the sheet is to be printed at. To make this fit I needed to move all the existing attributes over to the right.
Everyone except the 'Checked by' tag moved. I cannot now get this tag to move over even if I open the block up and move it.
I've attached an image to show you what I mean.
Eventually after I copy and paste with the clipboard enough times within one drawing, the ability goes away and I can no longer copy and past one item from one drawing to a separate drawing. I need to use the clipboard function because that is the only way of getting an item from one drawing to another.
I have download a clear clipboard function but it doesn't work. Closing CAD and restarting does not reinstate the function.
My Autocad has started a new behavior. When (in Win7) I double-click on a drawing file in Windows Explorer, Autocad opens the drawing file and also starts a new drawing, all in the same session of Autocad. Is there some system variable or Windows variable that controls this?

This was possible years ago with a simple stretch or moving of the text grip. Now, if the dimension is above the extension lines, the text is to the right. If it is below the extension lines, the text is to the left.
When I draw a new line from end point to end point using osnap, and then want to move that new line I drew, it also moves the lines I onsapped to.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm old school trying to learn new school! I love using my custom toolbars and abbreviations from the keyboard for calling my autocad commands. I am in the process of learning the uses of the ribbon. I have always used the acad menu, then loaded "partial" custom menus. Is this still possible using the ribbon? Not sure how to do this. I like keeping the custom stuff separate, because we have 5 users with a standard company menu and I like the idea of always going back to the original menu. I suppose my question is how do I use the ribbon, and continue to use my partials also

It goes better when i zoom in till I have a few lines on my screen but that's not really useful to work with.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, on my machine i have noticed that the print area (layout white space) of my drawing in paperspace moves and re-sizes every time i print.
I am trying to create a template and want everyone to print "layout" as a standard practice. But, if i happen to change to print window and window something off the page the layout space (white area) has now been resized and moved to the area i just windowed.
I want to print something "off the page" this time is no reason to change or modify the LAYOUT area that was initially specified. This never happened before and is not happening to my colleagues, so this must be a local setting.
I'm currently using auto cad 2000 because it's required in our class. When I make circles or move or objects there are no image guide. like when I make circles only the lines are there I still have to calculate what the diameter is rather than by simply looking how big the circle is. or when I'm connecting objects, It's very hard to connect complex objects by moving them because there is no guide to where the image is suppose to be when the mouse is at a particular place.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI create a block where coordinate 0,0 is my base/insertion point (which is established in an orientation that is to the lower-left of my blocks line work). In a new drawing I insert that block and specify coordinate 0,0 as my insert point. Instead of my insertion point being in the lower left it is in the upper right. I run into this in new version and old version drawings.

I tested by printing the outline of the vport and opening the resulting PDF in a PDF viewer.
The vport is exactly the same dimension but is about .5 inch off to the right.
After closing and re-opening my drawing, my annotative mtext is moving, and shrinking. When I click on the text, the properties say annotative is set to NO. I reset it to YES and fix it, but once I close it and re-open its screwed up again, and annotation is set back to NO.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently installed AutoCAD 2012 and have noticed that my crosshairs are moving as if a grid is turned on. I checked my settings and have turned everything off however, the crosshairs continues to move in "jerk-like" movements.
How do I change this?
Is there a way to see and move paperspace viewport boundaries in model space?
Explaining: You have created layout which includes multiple viewports with different scale and size (view, section). Now you copy the layout to create a new layout with with same viewports. Now you have to change the view in all viewports. I have used technique where you double-click in viewport and you navigate in modelspace (pan/zoom) until you reach the right position.
The problem is If you have like 100 layouts with 10 viewports each, it takes very long time to pan the views into right position.
I have a some theories:
1. If I could see the viewports in modelspace, I could drag them all into right position without navigating them one-by-on in paperspace.
2. If I could pan the view in viewport by specific amount lets say 10m to the right.
The screen flickers when I move the mouse around an open drawing. I just applied the latest patch to Civil 3D 2010. It was not doing this before the patch.
Have Quadro 3500 video card. Updated the driver for that with no change.
Have a Logitech wireless mouse, M310. Up dated the driver for that with effect.
Changed to a wired mouse, no change.
Is there a setting in Autocad where I can set the refresh rate so that it does not refresh while moving the mouse. Or at least slow the automatic refresh rate down?
When I try to move an object to the 0,0 plain, I get a "locked" symbol in the command line and the object does not move to the 0,0 plain. How would I be able to unlock this to move anything to the 0,0 plain.
