we are using A2011, Classic workspace (toolbars) and i have partial menus loaded (custom toolbars).
If i try to add a new toolbar to a custom toolbar, or to add buttons to an existing one, the changes are not saved when i close the customization window.
I am having an issue with saving the merge control variable to "Lines Merge" under the Sheet Set Publish Options. I have full rights to the sheet set file, and can change the variable to make a plot, but it gets reset everytime I close program and reopen.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a dual monitor setup and I maximize acad2011 on monitor 2 and have my toolbars on monitor 1.
I like to have my toolbars floating, but justified to the side with the 'gap' between the montiors so the tool bars fly out and I can see my email or reference docs or whatever on monitor 1 also. Sadly every time I close and re-open acad my toolbars re-justify to the center of monitor 1. I've tried unlocking and locking but that doesn't work. I am using the 'better', errr, excuse me, 'classic' workspace.
I'm old school trying to learn new school! I love using my custom toolbars and abbreviations from the keyboard for calling my autocad commands. I am in the process of learning the uses of the ribbon. I have always used the acad menu, then loaded "partial" custom menus. Is this still possible using the ribbon? Not sure how to do this. I like keeping the custom stuff separate, because we have 5 users with a standard company menu and I like the idea of always going back to the original menu. I suppose my question is how do I use the ribbon, and continue to use my partials also

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the student version of AutoCAD 2012 on an HP laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium OS. I originally installed AutoCAD in June of 2012. It worked fine for 9 or 10 months but now whenever I select File/Open, File/Save, or File/Save As, AutoCAD stops responding and the spinning blue donut appears. AutoCAD never comes back and I have to close it from Task Manager. I uninstalled AutoCAD and reinstalled it, and the process went smoothly. However I still have exactly the same problem with the File operations. I apply Windows updates, but other than that have not made any changes to the software on the laptop. AutoCAD works fine for everything except the File operations. I am able to save with CTL/S and am able to open AutoCAD files from File Manager.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to open a drawing then close it right away, if it was not the drawing I was looking for, as long as I didn't pan, zoom, or do anything else. Almost a year ago I had a pop-up with-in AutoCAD that they reccommend I make this selection. I can't remember what it said really, it was something about a script or lisp loading at each drawing opening. Well, the result is the 'Drawing 1' does not disappear when I open another drawing and I would like that to stop. Also as I said it does it to every drawing. how to stop this? I tried the 'startup' command and that is not it. It is not a big thing just something I think is a waste of my time having to close that drawing each time I open AutoCAD. Not sure it matters but I am using AutoCAD 2012

Since we got that out of the way let's get to it.
A week ago I was told that a lot of times the PC's freeze when you try to "Save", "Save as" or "Open" a file (we open/save on a network drive). If that happens we have to restart the PC and hope it doesn't happen again, but since this happens quite a lot (over the course of four days about 27 times on 7 PC's) I tried to fix this.
I installed the patch, updated the drivers for the graphic card and reinstalled NET Framework 4. The problem didn't occur as often but it still happened sometimes.
I am using autocad 2013 primarily and other employees are using 2010. I am saving my drawings as 2010 and for me there are no issues. On the other hand people using 2010 are having objects missing in the drawing. All layers are turned on and all thawed. The primary objects missing are AEC objects. Is there a switch to show or hide these object?

I have used AutoCAD for over 20 years and when the introduced automatic saves, I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. But apparently some time between release 2010 and 2012 it was redone or it just don't work. I can recall closing a drawing w/o saving by mistake after having worked on it for 2-3 hours and only loosing at the most 10 minutes of my time. I just did the same thing and lost about 2 hours worth of time and my automatic save was set to every 10 minutes as I have set it since automatic save was introduced.

View 4 Replies View RelatedBefore I save a drawing in AutoCAD Architecture, I hit ZOOM EXTENTS so the thumbnail preview is accurate and so it comes up the same way the next time it's opened. Unfortunately, after doing a ZOOM EXTENTS, SAVE & CLOSE, upon re-opening the drawing, the view shifts downward, which usually covers up the title of the drawing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed an anomoly when working with XREF's and changing units. With the company that I work, we receive client drawings, XREF them in, and put our drawings on top of them. For this particular project, we have about 150 drawings that we are working with. The biggest problem is the drawings we receive are in various units, and we draw in millimeters. So when we go to XATTACH, we have to make sure the XREF drawing's units are set to mm, although most of them are not. So we navigate to the XREF drawing, open it, open the UNITS window, change it to millimeters, accept, save, and close the drawing. However, when we go back into the actual drawing to XATTACH again, the unit change in the XREF has not taken effect. Reopening the drawing and launching UNITS will show that, indeed, the unit change was not saved. Doing it a second time will take effect, but why do we have to do this dance in the first place?
This problem occurs about 50% of the time. I can't seem to find a pattern with it. If I make a change to the XREF drawing itself as well as changing the units (like moving the pan or zoom), but to no avail.

When using save copy as to make an identical part with a different number, the file name in the top and the browser doesn't update to the new filenumber. only in the bottom file tabs is the name correct. if I go to file> save as I can also see the new filename. This is a hassle when doing this to multiple files in an assembly, as it makes it hard to keep track of which parts have been given a new name. It seems the filename input in the browser is only written once, and that is when the first file was saved for the first time.

My company used autocad 2009 and a printing Plug-in which was made by VB,they worked perfect.But when my company uses autocad 2010,the problem rises:The printing Plug-in doesn't work.
Although I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Module 32bit (from URL....), the printing Plug-in can not work with autocad 2010.the commands from the plug-in cannot be recognized.
Firstly I install autocad 2010,then VBA,next printing Plug-in.Is there anything wrong?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to merge 2 layers in AutoCAD 2012.When using LAYMGR I can select both layers, the model regenerates but once regerenerated both layers are still present & nothing has changed.
Both layers are unlocked etc & neither are the current layer.I have purged the .dwg, run an audit & also tried with other layers but the same thing happens ie nothing.I've accessed it via FORMAT & via the cmd line, I've tried selcting the layers on the plan as well as the name via the layer table.
I don't seem to get an option to confirm or rename the new layer at all & sure I'm missing something very obvious.
Working in a assembly and just edited an existing note in the Engineering notebook. Clicked the "X" to close the assembly.... what? no prompt to save the file?
Just checked adding a note to a ipt and it doesn't dirty the file either, so if you only add a new engineering note, you have to save it, cause it won't prompt you before closing.
I just got a newer computer and loaded autocad2012. If I use the viewcube to rotate to a front view and try to draw or dimension it only will draw on the "top" or XY coordinates while the screen is showing the xz. If I use the view tool bar and switch to the front view I can draw at will on the "front" and the ucs is showing I am drawing on the xy. How do I get the ucs to follow the view with the view cube like it does with the tool bar?
Now, I have checked the ucs settings ucsortho (1) ucsvp (1) ucsfollow (1) What else am I missing?
If I change view with the viewcube, then type ucs v. It will change the ucs to match the view. Why isn't it doing it automatically?
The file autocad 2010 (dwg) that I've been working for ages doesn't open. It starts loading but then get stuk on 96%. I tried to recover it and no errors are detected.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am difficulty getting the options dialog box to open (under the file menu "red A" dropdown list, options button). When I click on it, all of the buttons on top go gray and nothing appears. When I click on the black workspace, I get a compluter bell sound.
What I've tried to do to solve the problem is restart the computer and shutdown the computer.
Whenever I create a new layer in the Layer Manager, and I set the color, the color reverts back to whatever it defaulted to when I created the new layer - usually the color of that layer that is current, since everything is just duplicated.
To fix it I have to go back into Layer Manager and set the color a second time.

When I first started, I noticed that EVERY time I started Acad (Civil 3d 2012 or Arch 2012), the MRU list showed nothing but DST files. If I opened a dwg, it would get added to the top of the MRU list. But then the next time I loaded acad, there would once again be no dwg files--just dst files.
I thought that maybe the profile where the MRU list is stored was being overwritten by a backup (maybe the mgmt here wanted to ensure the profile remained "standard"). But then I noticed that when I open a dst file that was not on the MRU list, it gets added to the MRU list and STAYS THERE when I close the Acad session and is still there the next time I start Acad.
Now the difference between my issue and the other thread (at least as far as I can tell), is that I think they're saying that as dst files are opened, the dwg file(s) get pushed out of the list. But most of the dst files I'm seeing in the list are there from before I started.
