AutoCAD 2010 :: REFEDIT - Prevent Same Blocks From Being Hidden
Jun 7, 2012How does one prevent copies/other instances of same block from being hidden when REFEDITing block?
View 1 RepliesHow does one prevent copies/other instances of same block from being hidden when REFEDITing block?
View 1 RepliesAlmost all of our blocks have dynamic properties and I've made a number of lisp commands that use this info.
How do I stop someone from using refedit command on dynamic blocks? I have a problem with one guy. I've explained to him many times to use bedit command or come see me and I'll modify the block. He continues to use the command
I do not want to use lisp to ruin his day... but I will if this continues. Any setting I can use to stop this and keep me from going to a dark place
I've just upgraded to ACAD 2012 from 2009 and have copied over my CUI settings and getting different results when Double clicking on regular ( not Dynamic ) blocks. The macro for this i've set to ^C^C_refedit.
This previously would automatically select the NESTED block in the list of reference names if double clicked on in the drawing, however now in 2012 the parent block is always selected and i need to hunt through the list to find the actual nested block that im wanting to edit.
Is there a setting / variable that has changed in the upgrades? I have Automatically select all nested objects selected in the Reference edit dialog box and all other options match my 2009 as far as i can tell.
I used refedit to freeze a couple of items that were nested. My drawing file/machine locked up when I attemped to freeze them. I had to reboot, when I opened the file again I was still stuck in refedit mode. I cannot use refclose to get out our that command. It wants me to use refedit again. I need to get back to my work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn 2008, never had this issue.Just dumb, circles, and lines in a view port, that have hidden or center linetyoes assigned to them. When we go to plot using legacy hidden (this new for 2012?) the plot comes out with continuous lines. These are not solids. Just ordinary line entities. Now, when I change the shadeplot to "hidden" the linetype is shown correctly, but now my entities are coloured, when I just want my drawing to be black and white (going to PDF), even though all of the colours in the pen style are set to "Black".
Has this changed? Is there a new variable introduced?
I have opened a block to add a quick leader only and when I tried to close I got the message cannot save back ... (see screenshot 1) when I hit f2 the problem is shown to be a missing application reference (see screenshot 2).
This may not seem a big deal but the problem actually occurred after about 15mins of editing a block and it has taken me about an hour to figure out what the culprit was
I am using AutoCAD Plant 3D 2012 and working with the P&ID portion of the software. I created a block (to represent insulation with electric heat tracing) with multiple lines using multiple settings. All of the lines are on layer 0, the line weight is set to by layer. All of the lines have a linetype of by layer except one line which I need to be hidden. This block appears correctly on my screen, but when I print, the hidden line prints continuous.
My brain is exhausted and I think this is just a setting somewhere I can not seem to locate.
I have a drawing which has multiple blocks. When I explode one block there is an identical block underneath on layer 0.
Is there a way in AutoCAD 2012 to select all the blocks on layer 0 and delete them so that it would leave me with just the one set of blocks?
After plot using "DWG to PDF.pc3", Autocad 2012 will open the pdf with Adobe PDF, how can i prevent is to do this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI used these commands years ago and cant remember what they are. I am designing furniture in 3D and want to view the object at SE Isometric, then rotate an additional 18 degrees, then take a screenshot that will basically give me a block that is a line drawing of the object with lines hidden. This is a question with two parts:
#1: How do I rotate from SE Isometric 18 degrees to get the view angle I want?
#2: How do I take a screenshot of the object that will produce a block with hidden lines?
There are two seperate commands for each of these, I just can't remember what they are.
Attached is a picture of the final product I'm looking for.
I have a drawing & when I pan I can see a lot of extra information hidden by wipeouts.
Any easy way to erase all of that & leave what I can see, without panning, intact?
When I try to copyclip what I can see it grabs everything including the hidden objects.
Unfortunately whoever did the drawing didn't put all the hidden info on one layer.
We have been trying to plot some 3D objects in our drawing with a hidden line. We need the drawing to not show the hidden 3D lines but to show the edge lines of the object to plot as a hidden line.

In my model i need to display in 3D. When i change the visual style from 2D Wireframe to 3D Hidden nothing is changing.
Its not a problem with the software as if i draw a cube in the model this changes but my model still does not.
Also the model is imported from Tekla Structures in the same way as the 20 a week and this is the only one which i have had problems with.
I have a series of drawings and am unable to make some block text for risers not appear hidden. If I paste the block into another drawing I get the text to appear but then when I try to bring back into this drawing it becomes hidden.

Do I need to modify the CUI?
Whenever I edit a block using Refedit, Autocad seems to want to switch on the grid. (which if fine although a bit annoying) what really gets me is when I leave Refedit I’d expect it to turn the grid off again and restore the setting to the way they were before Refedit. But instead the grid remains still on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm drawing objects (walls, platforms, etc.) in 3d made up primarily of extruded polygons. I want to be able to plot these objects in a way that hides all of the lines which are obscured by other objects. Currently I have my viewports set up with a 2D Wireframe visual style and a Hidden shade plot. This isn't working for me. I'm still getting all of the lines in the drawing visible no matter what.
Here's the strange thing: It seems to work perfectly fine in plan view, but not in front view. Also, it's worked fine in the past. It seems that the problem has gotten progressively worse over the past year or so.
I'm using AutoCAD 2008.
Can you edit a block in place (refedit) without changing globally and without exploding within that drawing?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working on creating some blocks for our office. Basically it is a simple block with a few lines that remain and then a couple attributes you can click on and change. I have added the attribute and all is working well.
My only issue is I would like to make the text in the attributes to be bold. For some reason I can't see to do this. Is it not possible.
Basically I want to try and get some of the attributes to stand out more than others. I tried changing the color and the lineweight of the attibute (which worked the color is different) but when it prints it doesn't change at all.
How do you add blocks from another file? Also can a block span multiple layers? How do you change the layer of a block?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have received a drawing from another company that has blocks. When I try to rotate the blocks to an angle through the properties dialog box or by entering an angle at the command line, I am not able to. The value is always set to "E". I can rotate it graphically by placing points on the screen, just not through a key in. It seems like there is a lock on it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a quick/easy way to know if a DWG contains nested blocks?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMany of the blocks my company uses were created with the linework within the block on Layer 0, and set to ByLayer.
When I insert it into a drawing, I put the block on a layer other than 0, and use that layer to control the color & linetype.
If I Xref a drawing, and want to turn off or freeze a layer I use the Freeze and Off buttons in the layers section of the ribbon (I'm working in 2012). This way, I don't have to figure out what layer an object is on to turn it off.
Here's the problem: When I try to freeze or turn off a layer by clicking on a block, it doesn't do anything to the layer that the block is on. It tries to effect layer 0. Even if I use the list command to find out what layer an object is on, it says it's on 0.
I found this article that seems to explain how to use layer 0 in blocks: [URL] ....
It seems my company is doing things exactly as that writer recommends. But it still seems incredibly faulty.
What is the best way to design and work with blocks? I always try to avoid using layer 0, but that would waste a lot of time trying to override the company standards.
