AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Achieve Polished / Reflective Finish On Machined Parts
Jun 14, 2013
how to achieve a polished, reflective finish on these machined parts (see attachment)? I've tried all the default materials and even some of my own but can't get the results I want. One factor I can't solve is the location for "advanced" materials in the Create Material pulldown in Materials Browser, this selection is not listed.
Noticed the images in the reflection from polished copper? In my current model, polished copper is reflecting the image of what looks to be a parking lot, as I see the back end of 3 different cars, ones white and the other two are grey I think. No real issue, just noticed this reflection, looks like the developers were having a little bit of fun on this one, or is there a place this reflection can be changed?
I have been working on a large assembly and I am trying to get a bolted connection to pass through a component and a machined plate. I have been using the cocentric option to complete many other holes up to this point, but not through a machined surface.
When I attempt this, I get two errors saying:
Design Accelerator Doctor
1. Failed to add sketch for a hole
2. Failed to create a hole
My questions are:
Is there a way around this Or is this a problem that I am going to have to work around?
Or
Is there a better way to get a hole/bolt through this assembly?
I have a sheet metal part I need to show as polished aluminum diamond plate on one side of the material only, just as it would appear on the actual part.
I have a part that is designed to be made from a casting. In my workflow it makes more sense to create the as machined part first and then base the casting on the machined part usually by using save as and then deleting the machined features. I understand that you can easily go the opposite direction by creating the cast and then creating a derived part that you apply the machining features to.
I tried to derive the casting in this way hoping that you could just suppress of delete features without altering the associativity between the two files but it appears that the derived part doesn't "know" about the features on the original, it's just a solid.
It would seem that this workflow would be a no brainer since most of the time the casting depends on the finished part which depends on the design specifications, so am I missing something or is there really no way to do what I want to do without having to go the messy route of having to manually alter two separate parts every time I alter the design?
Description or definition of a "Reflective Ceiling Plan" to give to the guys in the shop? Some of them are having a hard time interpreting the drawing and I guess I am not able to communicate it to them properly.
I have a problem with Inventor 11 Studio. The reflection on the ground made by "XZ Reflective Gp" works in a way that when rendered, it shows a partial or cut reflection of my assembly, see attached .jpg file. I have not found yet where this "reflection depth" is regulated.
I am trying to use AutoCAD to render some small parts. I am used to using Inventor Studio, but AutoCad's rendering tools have taken some getting used. to. I have everything figured out, with the exception of the ground plane for shadows and/or reflections.
I originally wanted a ground plane for a shadow to be projected on. However, I had no luck with that, so I modeled a large box under the part. Using that, I am able to get a shadow, or reflection, BUT, the edges of the box are showing in the background. The easy fix is to make the box larger, however, I need the reflective surface and background to be white so that it can be printed on paper without seeing the rendered edges.
How can I set a ground plane, or model a plane, for shadows or reflections, AND made it true white so that the edges cannot be seen?
I have built a 3D turbine that combined more than 50 3D parts. Now I want an assembly drawings to show our clients how to put those parts together. Any autodesk software? Some people recommended Inventor and I have never used it. Is this a right software to do some kinds like this project?
I'm having some problems when using the DWG to PDF. When we open our PDF the parts of our drawings will be very light. It appears that most of the time it is only circles or arcs that are coming up lighter than the specified lineweight. When the PDF is printed everything comes out as desired, but we need good looking digital copies as well.
I found some stuff talking about using the correct CTB and some other things of that nature, but I am pretty new to autocad (and self-taught) so there are several basics things that I probably missed out on and could use some clarification on.
I'm working on a rendering of the building in photoshop and I want the glass in the windows to look like they are reflecting light and clouds, etc. Any suggestions??
how this type of text effect was made. notice the reflection on top of each letter? there also appears to be a slight gradient and stroke around each letter. (not concerned about wave overlay)
i'm guessing this is some sort of plug-in for photoshop or maybe illustrator? i can't imagine anybody taking the time to do this by hand... at first glance it seems like a bevel effect but i can not duplicate it without going through a long process of filters and adjustments. it seems to be some sort of gel effect...
Is there a good way to either tone down or remove the reflective glare that frequently shows up in a photo subject's eyeglasses? I have a number of otherwise nice photos, but the viewer will always see these glare spots first.
I'm using mental ray rendering photometric lights with a lot of reflective surfaces. I keep getting little white specks showing up on certain surfaces.
I have been using AutoCAD Architecture 2013 imperial for weeks. Then the other day I went to use it again and the program would not finish loading. The metric version that comes with the program does open.
I'm looking for a solution to export surface finishes into Excel. We built an assembly and parts and their faces has different colors. Is that possible to read colored faces, merged them by color, read the total surface area and then export into Excel. That is for estimating purposes. I read the thread "Extracting Surface Finish Data" but I didn't find the piece of code that I need.
i have problem with vba sendcommand method, which i use to send publish command. vba code doesn't wait to finish this command, but continues. i need to wait for finish publishing and then continue.
How to change the appearance of lines in a room finish schedule? I want to be able to have some appear bold, others to be a double line, and some to be thin? Currently when i load the standard room finish schedule the lines are not what i want them to look like.
I came across an amazing Inventor animation on YT. Its a ball that rolls down the ramp, falls into/thru a hole and realistically moves objects it touches. How is that done?
How is that possible to achieve that effect of free falling/gravitation?
I get this error message every once and a while when it changes to outlines and I try to switch back to preview mode. I just added 16gb to my hard drive this month so there should be any issue of memory space on my computer.
I have had Elements 12 running previously on my machine. I have just upgraded the hard drive and am in the process of reinstalling. My version is an upgrade to V11. This installed correctly and is running. Whenever I try to install V12 it gets right to the end and install an icon on the desktop and then just runs. I have left it for 3 hours and it still won't finish the installation.
I have Illustrator CS5. HP workstation with an intel xeon cpu. 64 bit 12 GB of RAM.
I never had this problem before, but in the past few days this message keeps coming up, and converts the files to outline mode. It's happening to all kinds of illustrator files ranging is size from 2MB to 56MB, from simple drawings with gradient fills, to complex drawings with mesh. In most of the files, I'm working with vector images that I didn't create, but purchased from stock photo sites.
I am trying to replace a custom part - created from a content center part - with a copied part with a different name. (I am using the replace tool in an assembly.) However, Inventor is not replacing the part with the part I pick but rather the content center version of it.
