After Effects :: Starting The New Multiple Point Warp Stabilizer
Jun 19, 2013
I do aerial photography with a large rc helicopter. Camera movement is hard to get rid of. I am looking forward to the upgraded Warp stabilizer "VFX" to work with that. I have been using the Warp in AE and motion tracking. I just don't know how to launch the multi point program in AE cloud.

I'm having alot of difficulty with Premiere CC, Warp Stabilizer, and spanned .MTS files.
It's a 90-minute production, two cameras, one steady, the other moving. All Panasonic AVCHD, and all continuous recordings, so I have several spanned .MTS clips, that I imported directly into Premiere via the Media Browser. Made my edits, cutting back and forth between the two cameras, and then warp stabilized many shots that were too jittery for my liking. It plays back fine, but takes FOREVER to render(if it doesn't crash, which it often does...I've found that if I render the clips one at a time, it crashes less)...and everytime I click export > media, it crashes. It crashes on any kind of copy and paste operation, so I can't duplicate my sequence, or copy and paste the clips so I can make changes without affecting my original edit. I don't want to mess with the edit and start removing the effect until I have no other option...
The edit is finished, I just need to be able to render and export...I *think* this is a warp stabilizer issue. If I start a new sequence and lay down the raw footage, no warp stabilizer effect, it renders/exports without issue.
What can I do about this? Would converting the files to Prores solve anything? That would be less processor intensive, right?
Would I be better off linking to AE and using the stabilizer in AE? I was doing that at first, but it was time-consuming to go back and forth...
System Specs -
Late 2012 iMac
3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX680MX w/ 2 GB RAM
OSX 10.8.5
Premiere Pro CC 7.1
Final note - I do not have CUDA enabled...I don't know much about video cards and all that. CUDA is not an option when I look at my playback options...My current project playback setting is OpenCL How would I enable CUDA.

I've been having trouble lately using Warp Stabilizer in Premiere CC 7.1. I had used the effect many times successfully, then it suddenly stopped working. It analyzes the clips without problem, however it seems to get stuck on the "Stabilizing" phase. It just sits there. As I try to playback the clip in the timeline, it simply shows up as black video in the viewer. The space above the clip on the time line is yellow. I've done a full uninstall and no luck. I don't have any other problems in Premiere Pro CC 7.1 right now.

I have a project file which has gotten so huge the project is impossible to work with - after I have added Warp Stabilizer to long a video-file. But after I remove the Warp Stabilizer effect the file remains the same size. Is there some setting where I can clear/empty the analysis.

I want to edit 4K source footage inside of a 1080p timeline in order to do alot of shot stabilizing throughout my project with the plug-in "Warp Stabilizer" that is standard inside of Adobe Premiere CC. BUT as soon as I drop the plug-in on my 4K footage that is inside of my 1080 timeline there is an error message that says "Warp Stabilizer requires clip dimensions to match sequence (fix by nesting)".
So I guess the "fix" is to nest my clips first then drop the plug-in on the nested clip. My question is this ... is the plug-in using the true resolution of my 4K clip that has been nested to stabilize my shot? Or is it basically using a 1080 proxy type file of my 4K source footage since it is "nested"?

I just downloaed the Premier Pro CC 30 day trial. I edited some nice video and was strongly considering adding this to my Photoshop/Lightroom subscription. However, warp stabilzer has not worked once for me. Even on clips as short as 6 seconds.
What happens is that when I drag "warp stabilzer" over a clip it analyzes the clip showing a blue banner stating "step 1 analyzing". Then after a short wait an orange banner appears and states "Stabilizing". Thats when the process stops. It stays locked in that orange banner stabilzing position permanently. I waited 3 hours for a 6 second clip and it still said "stabilizing".
Obviously something is drastically wrong. Had it not been for that I would have probably signed up for a subscription to Premium Pro CC.
I'm on a Windows 7 Pro, i7, 12 gigs of ram setup. Seperate scratch disk used also. Everything else on Premium Pro CC seems to work fine. I don't understand why warp stabilizer doesn't.

I need to design a walking track 1 mile (5280 feet) from a starting point and finishing at the same point. I need to go around buildings, ponds, etc. What is the best way to tackle this? I thought about 16 splines at 330', but as soon as the spline is moved the distance changes.

I would like to draw a Zig Zag Line, but I want that the line start in point "A" and finish in point "B".
The image below is similar to how I want the line, but I would like to have that "wavy" style. I use Illustrator CS6.

How to choose my starting point to be relative to another point without drawing help lines (which mean they must be drawn, selected, deleted = time).
For argument's sake, consider I am attempting to draw a cross. I use the line command, input a starting point; choose next point: @100<0 (to draw a line 100 units in length at an angle 0 [relative to X axis] relative to previous point).
Now I need a vertical line of equal length to cross the middle-point of the horizontal one.
I could snap to middle-point, draw a line of half-length at angle 90 and draw another of 2.(length) at angle -90. This produces 2 lines one of which is unwanted must therefore be selected and deleted.
This simple example illustrates my point.
I need a command which allows me to choose my first point (for the LINE command) as the point which is "X" units at angle "alpha" relative to a point "x,y" (or a coordinate selected by the SNAP tool if you will).

When I have been drawing things I often want to start drawing from an existing line but not on an existing node/end point/mid point etc. For example I need to draw a support collumn on a wall 20' from a corner, but everytime I start it will snap to the nearest endpoint or midpoint.
A similar problem is if I am trying to draw a rectangle that is centered on the midpoint of another object. The rectangle tool will snap to the midpoint and the placement will be off by 1/2 the width of the rectangle.
This is not an osnap issue, but more of a best drawing practices question. In the past I have used DIMLIN to create a node to snap my starting point to, or drawn a new line out to the point where I want to start. I don't like doing this because then I have to erase it later(just to keep the drawing tidy).

I have a 1-minute clip that I've been working on. The first 30s I want to playback at normal speed. Between 30 and 36s I want the playback speed to gradually increase to about double the normal playback speed. At 36s I want it to stay at double speed for a few seconds and then gradually return to realtime playback. I don't want it to suddenly go from normal speed to double speed. From what I've read this is possible with the TimeWarp effect or enabling time re-mapping. Since I don't know how to do either I decided to look up some tuts on TimeWarp. I didn't find much and when I add the TimeWarp effect to my footage layer, all the color correction I did on it disappears.
I guess I'm wondering two things:
-How do I accomplish the speeding up and slowing down that I described above?
-If I'm supposed to use Timewarp, why does it create issues with my color and how do I fix it?

Basically I am trying to warp a pattern about it's centre point, in a radial manor (the pattern file is obviously square in photoshop). If you imagine the pattern on a planar surface, the warp that I am trying to achieve is as if one were to grab the central point of the surface and pull it directly away from the face - see image below for visual aid...
I'm trying to achieve a pattern that is a flat file, but looks like you are looking directly at the end of a pointy end of a cone that used to be a flat surface with the pattern on it.

I have a VBA to insert a block I ask the user for an insertion point GETPOINT. Then I allow the user to select an angle. GETANGLE starting with the insertion point. If the user picks a point or enters a number there is no problem.
However if the user hits enter it crashes saying invalid input. What I want to happen that if enter happens it accepts it as an angle of 0.

I noticed that if i draw a very short line (about 10 pixels or less) then cursor shifts back to starting point.
Tested on systems an drivers:
Mac OS X 10.6.4 or 10.7.4
Driver 6.3.0 or 6.3.3-3
Photoshop CS 5 (12.0.4)
Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.1)
Mac OS X 10.8.2, Driver 6.3.3-3 and Photoshop 6 (13.0.1) - same problem.
I have three Intuos 5 tablets for now and all have this bug so this is not a hardware problem i think. Corel Painter 12 - all good.

I have had this problem since I started using patterns. Basically when I put a pattern on a path I want to then move it along that path so it starts where I want it to start, not neccessarily on the path's starting point.
There is an image of how it looks like
I created a simple pattern to show my issue. For example I want to move this pattern along this circle so it looks like this (triangle points up)
As you can see I rotated the whole circle to get the right outcome I need, but if it was just a regular path I would not be able to fix it this way.
Is there a way to do that? Something like moving text along a path.
I am using Illustrator CC.

1) does AE have or can be made to perform Photoshop or Flash distort, skew, warp etc. transformations?, (these save incomparable time in path editing rather than AE's limited transforms and manual point and tangent realignments)
2) when shape(mask) tweening in AE is it capable of what Flash calls ease-in/out, or what Illustrator and CorelDRAW calls "speed"or "acceleration" respectivly?

I've converted a 2D image into a smart object, dragged into a project then transformed it using the Distort command (similar to how you might distort a 2d image to make it sit inside a photo frame at an angle) . I need to then warp that image around over something that looks like a curved panel thats 2D but looks 3d. Its not a 3d object, but a rendered 2d image that just looks 3d.
I'm using the Transform > Warp tool as Puppet Warp isnt available after using Distort when using Smart objects.
Warp works fine to some extent but I could really do with more handles and smaler grid for more accurate warping rather than the default 3x3 grid & handles..
Possible to add more handles/ nodes/ control points (or whatever they'e called) and/ or increase grid points in the same way Puppet Warp does this so as I drag around I control a tigher & smaller space?

I want it to be a variable stroke, so I loaded up “Width Profile 2” in the profiles. The trouble I am having, is that Illustrator defaults to start the larger dots in the bottom right hand corner, and I would like the “starting point” to be in the middle of the line if you know what I mean. I'm still happy for the dots to start big, then gradually decrease in size, but I want to control where the “beginning” is.

I need to edit a layer's OUT point without affecting the location of the IN point in the composition. [ is working fine for the in point. Then, pressing ]... The entire layer slides to the left so that the out point is there, all right, but the in point has now moved the other way so that it's gone back in time. I want the out point to TRIM the (text) layer and make it shorter, not slide it around so that it's the same length and all it's done is to move.
The text layers will overlap each other, but the thing is that they're of varying lengths (It's AE 5.1, btw...)

Puppet Warp is a great tool. But sometimes I want to isolate an area and only rework that spot, while keeping everything else in place. To do this I have to go around clicking everything to pin it down. I'm wondering if there's a way to automatically pin all possible points, or click-and-drag to create pins at all intersecting points of the web.

Is it just me or has undo gone the way of the dodo in the stabilizer module? Please can it be resurrected. It is incredibly useful for when a track goes wrong and you just want to try a different tracking point. As it stands I now have to go back into the animation channel, select shift, select delete, delete keyframes and then retrack.

I am trying to use stabilizer to smooth out a camera motion but immediately getting into problem with using stabilizer as I could not find any comprehensive manual on utilizing this feature.
I have one problematic very important clip with the uneven camera motion: camera moves at a certain rate and suddenly drops or increases in speed. It is around 5 min clip and involves some long panning with uneven rate of camera motion.
It is not shaky as the camera was on a tripod all right just the operator was a little bit drunk and spoiled the hole shot.
Anyway I spliced (cut) the lengthy clip into several segments where I could be able to find a distinguished feature to apply a tracker.
Then I applied an Axis FX through a timeline FX. In the "Axis" main menu I chose "Stabilizer". But in the Stabilizer Menu in the preview window I cannot see my video frames and there are boxes of tracker on the black background. How can I apply tracker if there is no footage seen in the window?

Is there any way to locate exact center of a circle in after effects? I made a perfect circle in photo editing program and since layer's boundaries corresponded to circle's edges, i thought that anchor point in after effects will be exactly at the center. but it's not the case - the anchor point is at the center of a composition!
I imported the circle .psd layer together with other layers as a composition, does this have any importance? As i said, the circle layer boundaries corresond with circles edges, not with canvas' edges in my photo editing program. But whe i solo the circle layer, i see that the anchor point is at the center of a composition, not the layer.
So now i have to place anchor point at the center manualy, and it's pretty difficult to do it perfectly. when i rotate the circle, it wobbles and wobbles.
