I made a graph in Illustrator. So I imported all of my layers as .ai layers, and I've come to a point in the tutorial where I'm supposed to convert the vector object into a path in After Effects, but when I right-click it the option isn't there.

The answer I found said to select the path and hit Command+C+F. This gives me another text path! I now have at least 6 copies of the path in my files but they are ALL text paths and none are visible with a stroke.

"Load path from selection" is not an option because it deforms my path.

BG > New Layer > draw an ellipse and then add a Bevel with an > Angle of 89 and an Altitude of 30 and then I add a New Layer > open the Styles and go to change the Angle to say +89 or whatever and the Altitude to say 45 ... the first Layer/Shape Effects change.
How I can keep one Layer from being affected by an other Layers Effects'?
I have found that if I Rasterize a Layer Effect that I can add a "double" effect on the same layer but I haven't tried the to do this with separate layers. However, for most of the work I am doing I cannot use the Raster because everything needs to be true vectors.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have noticed a few subtle UI changes in PShop CC -some of which seem like bugs.When I apply "transform" to a newly created Elipse path (which has been pre-specified as a path), I get this prompt:
"This operation will turn a live shape into a regular path. Continue?"
But the elipse I have created is NOT a shape. The Path option has already been selected. Yes, this is a very minor quibble, but as a former beta (and alpha) tester, I tend to be compulsively thorough! OTOH, perhaps there is a user error on my part. I did double check that new paths created with elipse tool are spec'd as "paths".

Is there an easy way to convert a path to even zig zag segments... the purpose is to create an swen or stitched effect in screen printed designs. I see this all this time in retail stores and can do it in a very time consuming manor I'd like to start advoiding. I'm tired of the dashed line effect and want the stiched VVVVVV look around corners and such. The problem is the uniform effect you get because the segments are not equal.

i am currently working on the storyboard for a title sequence, and i have to animate it now.
As you can see in the picture i have a light blue background that has a circular shaped mask, and everything happens inside this mask in multiple layers on the back.
my problem is i want this mask to be animated, and to have a watercolor felling. so i thought of using video footage of ink, you know the typical video of ink falling into water and sort of expanding.
i have no problem making the video appear inside the ink stain, but my question is: is there a way to make a video follow the shape of an object? so i can make this ink footage adapt to different mask forms, for example a circle or a triangle, or even more complicated forms like, i dont know a human silhouette?
i am thinking something that stretches the video along a path with the shape of the object may be the solution.
When you use the Photoshop CS6 new function stroke on the path of a vector shape, how can you convert the result in a vector shape ? Merging multiple vector shapes doesn't work. The strokes outlines are not vectorized in the new vector shape.
It's possible to convert in pixel and keep the stroke drawing, but no way to convert in vector. Illustrator has a similar function in order to vectorize the stroke.
I'm working on a project and I need to use the free distort tool + ctrl (command for mac users) but it won't work. I found out that I need to convert it to a smart object, from another disscussion, but right clicking the name of it in the layers menu isn't working. I'm using CS6 by the way.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIf I try to add effects like Text-->Numbers or Obsolete-->Basic Text to a solid in my comp, i get the following error message "After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters.". I have done some research on this and found people that had the same issue when trying to import footage or images. I get the message just by starting a new comp adding a solid and then try to add the effects mentioned above, so their is no footage or image involved here.
I`m running on Win7 Professional 64bit service pack 1 (english) and After Effects CC (12.2.1.5). I don`t think this is part of the problem but here are more hardware infos (just in case):
- NVIDIA GTX 570
- Intel Core i7 2600K

I`m running AE cc on a Lenovo U310 aswell and do not have any issues there, so I assume something must be wrong with the OS or with AE on my main PC.
I'd like to create custom effects using paths. Is it possible to distort a (rectangle) area along a given path? Let's suppose for instance I have a gradient in a rectangle area and I drew an open path manually with a few nodes forming waves, loops; I'd like to have the rectangle area "follow" the path and be distorted accordingly. Mathematically that would suppose:the rectangle area would be stretched to fit the path length andthe rectangle area could be "bent" using its gravity centre as a reference point. That'd be useful for creating smoke effects for instance. Can Gimp 2.6 do this or is there a plugin?

But the scenario is not always just a landscape. Sometimes is a building that the actor walks on it, so i have (in some way) to put the actor "in" the building, and if i was working with images i would easly solve that problem: select and extract to another layer what i want to be in first place, or to be the landscape. At the same logic, how can i do this in After Effects CC?Can i extract some objects by color as i can do in Photoshop?
2º For storytelling reasons, i would like that , in some moment, everything turns gray , and the actor is colored. but there's more! i would like that the actor leaves a colored path (the path that he is taking in animation). Is there any way that i can do it?
If i cant do it, i have to re-build the entire animation in Cinema4D.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to assign a motion path to the light rays effect on one of my layers but i can't seem to find a way to do it and google has turned up nothing. the problem is the effect needs to be on a certain layer in order to make the effect look right but i don't want the layer to move i only want to affect the centre point of the effect. i can assign key frames and animate it to move in straight lines but i need it to move in a curve and there seems to be no way to alter the motion path or assign it to one on a null layer.
View 3 Replies View Relatedthe batch conversion tool can't handle long file names as generated by the Windows Live Photo Gallery import tool. I was shocked (dismayed?) to see that my brand new X5 doesn't import DV as nicely as this free MS tool (as an aside). Here is an example filename: "Tape05 2001-01-02 14.05.33.avi". It stumbles on the first '.' it finds. Luckily it does not overwrite files that end up having the same name because of this truncation but still. Come on now. Path manipulation is junior engineer programming 101.
The batch convert also does not remember the target directory last used. At least default it to the source directory, right?Unlikely to be fixed, I know, but maybe it'll go on the list for X6.
