3ds Max :: Render To Texture And Compact Material Editor Windows Are Not Popping Out

Inside 3ds max, both render to texture and compact material editor windows are not popping out.

I tried re-installing twice, installed latest subscription pack also. but still i am facing same.

3ds Max :: Slate Material / Compact Editor

We're discovering some sort of disturbing differences in some of the shaders in the Slate versus the traditional material editor. You can find them everywhere, but a good example is the Matte/Shadow/Reflection material. Under Additional Params in the Slate node you'll find more parameters than are in the Compact editor (also what is called the Parameter Editor in Slate). Found no information on these extra parameters. See the attached image. Substance maps are another example of different parameters.

I can't seem to find where the shader parameters are in the compact material editor in 2013. When In the attached picture, I've shown how it looks when I open it.

I've looked all over online and checked out every rollout in the editor and can't seem to find it anywhere... and all the online tutorials (lynda, etc) say they're for 2013 but are really for 2012.

3ds Max :: Names Of Materials Don't Show In Compact Material Editor

How to make the name of a material show up in the Compact Material Editor? For instance, if I double-click on a standard material, and put it into the first material slot, the name stays "Default-01" instead of "Concrete_brown_stucco" (for instance).

This isn't a BIG deal but it's just one more thing to slow the workflow down !

3ds Max :: Design 2014 - Opening Compact Material Editor 2nd Time Causes Crash

So I have this issue where opening the compact material editor a second time causes 3ds max design to totally crash. I cant figure out why it is doing that. I have tried reinstalling the software, even tried re-dowloading it and nothing works, have all the service packs and so on. Funny thing is that it works when using the slate editor. I can recreate the bug every time. Just open 3ds max design 2014 x64. Press material editor (assuming its in comact mode), close the editor and then open it again. Immediatly the program will crash to desktop, telling me that the progam has stopped responding.

I'm trying to bake a material using render to texture dialog. The issue is that whenever i render a diffuse map, it only renders the faces visible in the viewport im working in. The rest of the uv faces are rendered black. All the tutorials i look at never have this problem. What's the issue?

Sometimes this happens when I'm working with photoshop : first it doesn't do anything for a moment because he is processing something (I don't have loads of RAM) then suddenly like 5 help-windows open... I wonder: is there any way to prevent it?: is there a shortcut I must prevent pushing? some settings? It's not that important as I can still do everything, but it is very irritating...

The same scene, same settings, produce 2 very different outputs in max 2011 and 2012, render to texture for normals is currently useless in max 2012.

The blue one is a correct tangent normal map created from a sphere in max 2011, the colored one is the the one created inside max 2012 from the same objects and settings, and the last is another sample of normals generated in max 2012.

Photoshop :: Minimized Windows Keep Popping Up

Obviously this is a change from CS5 to CS6 and I don't like it. I would like to know how to change it back. When I have a bunch of tabs open in a window and then minimize them because I am working in yet another new window... every time I return to PS6, that minimized window keeps opening up on top of the project I really want to work with. Why doesn't it stay minimized (like it used to in CS5)? Is there a way to go back to the way that works in CS6?

VideoStudio :: Recorder Bar NOT Popping Up Windows 7

I'm having major problem with trying to record a screen capture. It's my first time trying corel videostudio. When I click record screen capture region the program minimizes but nothing else pops up and there is no frame on my monitor region. Im on Max 2011 with sp1 and the latest hotfix installed, working with vray 1.5 sp5. When i try to re-set mu material editor (compact not slate) i get the folllowing error message

"Runtime error: cannot assign undefined to material editor slots" and a Macro_media utilities window opens with the following script

Illustrator :: Caution Windows Keep Popping Up On File And Sometimes Unable To Open It

I have CS5 and began a file yesterday only to have multiple problems today when I tried to open it. First it said,
 
"File is not readable"
 
Yet when I opened it on my schools computer it was able to open. Then my other file did open but when I tried to save it it said,
 
"When spot colors are used with transparency,changing them to process colors outside of illustrator can generate unexpected results."
 
Then when I cancelled that it began to read,
 
"Saving to a legacy format may cause some changes to your text layout and disable some editing features when the document is read back in"
 
I don't really understand how I could fix this issue because obviously its the file inside. Now I did have a lot of imaged in the file that I made in photoshop where I took away the background, made it transparent then saved as a png. Is that the issue? Most of my images on the file are .png and were edited with photoshop.

Revit :: Material / Texture On Cut Surfaces?

Been doing a couple of renders of a section through a wall with an external rain-screen cladding.Is there any way to alter the appearance / alignment of the texture shown in the cut surface (not the main surface - I can define that OK via the material).
 
Ideally I would like a realistic view of a material - but something that looks more like a cut CMU rather than the usual surface.Failing that - is it possible to use a flat consistent colour through all cut surfaces (ie all white) ?
 
I know I could do that last one in Photoshop - but it will be a real painstaking process.

3ds Max :: Render To Texture Over Saturated?

i'm experimenting with texture baking / render to texture. I've setup a simple scene with a box and a sphere and a omni light, no exposure, mental ray. I've rendered to texture the "complete map" for both. Then i've switched to default scanline renderer, put the baked materials to 100 self illumination, but the result (on the right) is more saturated and darker of the original render (on the left).

I've tried with different setups, but the result is the same.

I am trying to bake a light map by using render to texture. However, for some reason, whenever I render in a texture higher than256x256, it cuts off some portion of the map at the top. I do have the unwrap all in the box. This seems to just happen at random. I had this happen in 3dsmax 2013 on windows 7. I now have windows 8 and 3ds max 2014, but it is still doing it. I am, however, using the save from the former.

The material editor on my desktop is cut-off near toward the end. I cannot reach what I need to reach; the scroll bar won't go anymore downward, though it should.

How can I dock my material editor so that it continues on another column?

Due to some reasons I had to (first i've repaired 3ds max, but it couldn't start at all - "not responding" from very first second of opening 3ds max shortcut, and after that) uninstall and reinstall 3ds max 2011. From first open try it had ribbon problem, but ok, not using ribbons too much. But after working for a half day, there's some problems with material editor too...

What i should do now? repair it or uninstall and reinstall it again?

Any good  3d party texture baker. They bake hi-res  things forever and neigther can bake complex procedural shaders and  details with transparency properly.  
 
Is there any 3d party render that could be considered for texture baking?   I tried Vray but it's even slower  in baking. Is there anything other to try? I mean something with a speed of Modo texture baking for example?
 
Looking for uick  render settings for texture baking? Mental rey or scanline. Prerhaps I should degerade or avoid something not tailored for texture  baking. What would be a prefered way for indirect illumination or ambient occlusion? Is there a renderer that would respect edited vertex normals on low poly shells while doing baking?

1) My object scene has 5 parts. I have 3 materials. I need to render all permutations of material and part. Right now I am feeding permutations in via a script but every render takes 4 minutes. As my number of materials grows my permutations become exponential and the render time can become 85 years very fast on 1 machine. Are there any ways in which this kind of permutation rendering can be done that get around this?

2) 1 render of my scene at 600x600 takes about 4 minutes. I would like to know what I can do to get that faster from a hardware point of view. I know you can tweak the mesh to reduce polygons, reduce numbers of lights and so on. I am not interested in those, instead, I am keen to learn what are the hardware bottlenecks for max rendering. The machine is a new quad core i7, 8GB RAM. Do I need a faster graphics card/GPU?

My material editor won't appear when I click the button on my tool bar. The button toggles between on/off but the material editor menu never actually shows up. I've restarted my computer, I've minimized then maximized the program window, I've moved the program window back and forth between both of my monitors, I've tried opening it by hitting "M"...nothing seems to work.

3ds Max :: Background Colour - Render To Texture Error

I've rendered out hundreds of these before in 3DS max 2011 with no issue but in 2012 and 2013 the background colour of my ambient occlusion renders are black instead of being white for all the objects selected except for the first one. What's going wrong?

I set the colour to white in the render to texture window and if I select a single model it works fine but if I select the same model plus others, the first one is saved fine but the others all have a black background. I'm saving them as TGAs which is my preferred option and as I said has been working in 2011.
