I want a sphere being scattered on every Vertex along a spline. I also wanna be able to change the shape of the spline later, and the spheres should move with it. I tried to solve it through PFlow, Superspray+Path-Follow and the scatter-modifier, but none of those wants to work with splines or lets me position the spheres on the vertices.
Basically I want to duplicate an object along a spline. Sure there's the spacing tool, but listen what the problem is. I want to keep it parametric so that I can pick the path, duplicate the object along it, tweak the distance between the clones, vary the size of the clones, and possibly animate them.
Workaround I've tried:
1- pFlow, not handy / not the actual solution I'm looking for. 2 - Railclone: the lite version works fine, but it works only with flat splines (i.e. moving the points on the z doesn't affect the duplication). 3 - Path Constraint: it's ok, but to make it work I had first to constraint the single mesh, then array it. After the last step there's no other control over the cloned meshes. 4 - Path Deform: it's the closest solution, unfortunately the mesh can get annoying distortions, haven't found a way to avoid them.
am using sss material with mental ray and wen i render am getting this error massage PHEN 0.4 error: Internal error: misss_call_shader: Unexpected state->type case. what dose it mean and how to solve it ???
When I use the brush tool with scattering set to maximum, the range of scattering is still pretty narrow. I mean, it could be set to 1000% scattered, and the points I draw will still only be with a few pixels from my cursor (about 20 pixels or so). Is there a way to set scattering even more than this?
I'm trying to create an external involute spline (ANSI B92.2M) Fillet Root Side Fit 26.9mm x 1 mm x 26 teeth x 38 mm long using the spline generator with Inventor 2012. I created a test shaft"M-182-AMA.ipt" that is Ø26.9 mm x 38 mm long with 1 mm radius on each end of shaft.
I use the following steps:
1. After creating component "M-182-AMA.ipt" I select Design tab>>Power Transmission>>Involute Spline. 2. A window appears that has the caption "Involute Splines Connection Generator".In the Dimensions section I choose "Splines Type: ANSI B92.2M - 37.5 deg, Fillet Root, Side Fit, 26 x 1.00 x 38 x 5H/5h" and change the Length to 38 mm. 3. In the Shaft Groove section I use Create new, and I push the Reference 1 button that turns blue, I then select the od feature from the model and I get an error(see attached pic "error1.jpg).
I changed the 26.9mm od to be 27mm and it still gave me the error.

i am looking for a plugin like FI Bezier for 3dsmax, Basically its a plugin which lets you pre-define the path and lets you move the object throught the path using a helper, unlike animating the percent along path in 3dsmax Pathdeform
Trying to spline map a chacker map onto a simple spline that has been converted to an edit poly using the Unwrap UVW modifier. Here is the process that I went through:
1) Draw line 2) Array a 2nd copy in the exact same place 3) Create radial thickness on the copy under 'Rendering' rollout. 4) Convert to editable poly 5) Apply checker map standard material 6) Add 'Unwrap UVW' modifier 7) Under 'Unwrap UVW' modifier select 'face' sub-object 8) Select 'Spline Mapping' (in 'Wrap' rollout) 9) In 'Spline Map Paramters' dialogue box select '- Pick Spline -' 10) Select original line.
The UVW gizmo should be tightly fitted to the object with the checker map nicely mapped following along the spline but instead I'm getting a huge UVW gizmo and horrible mapping (see first attachment).
The second attachment shows what I'm trying to achieve. Also.. it works fine when the spline is very large. Is this due to my system units being set to meters?
I have a problem with spline mapping function. I have a mesh imported from autocad and after I create a spline from mesh borders to use for mapping. I don't understand because the result are incomprehensible.
I have model of an insect and I need to cut it into two pices as if plastic toy.
I drew a simple zig zag spline, extruded it, gave it shell for thickness and when I boolean substraction A-B i get 2 halves but without the cut walls- they appear empty. I need the cut to appear as if through a solid object.
Do I have to rebuild those cut walls by hand to make halves appear solid, or is there a faster way?
I have a plane and I would like to be able to use a spline to select polys on that plane. Or perhaps another method of taking a plane and selecting polygons based on a set of curves?
Here I enclose file Cam_Profile.ipt, this is a spline curve made from an Excel matrix with 670 points in 3 decimals accuracy (VBA editor) Extruding is not possible because of self intersecting path.
I want to trim both two free ends from the intersection and also close the intersection for extruding this profile. However ....., without displacement of any current point in the perimeter of the closed spline!
What changed between acad lt 2007 and acad lt 2012. Cannot draw a simple 2 point spline curve in 2012. how I do it? Is it a sys variable changed somewhere?
I have created a shaft and splined one end of it successfully. The shaft is the same diameter at both ends and I need to spline the other end as well but when I try, I get the following error messages, Cannot create iFeature. Not possible to create shaft groove. Splining the first end went without a hitch but Inventor absolutely refuses to spline the opposite end of the shaft. The shaft diameter is correct for the spline I have chosen (same as the major diameter)
I am creating a 3D editable mesh county map of the state of Illinois using coordinates from a SHP file that I extracted using a Python script. The attached maxscript code draws the knots for spline, closes it, converts it to an editable poly, extrudes the first face to a predefined height, caps the holes, converts it to an editable mesh, quadifies the mesh, and then finally smooths the mesh for each county. This script works great for about 90% of the counties, but every time I run it the same 8 or 9 counties are not visible. I can highlight the invisible counties, but I do not have the option to convert them to an editable polygon. When I just draw the splines (without any of the converting, etc.), I see all the counties in 2D, but I can only manually convert some of the counties to an editable polygon.
I thought this problem came from the fact that some of the edges were bound to be touching, so I tried to create a small buffer (0.005" or so) between the counties, but the problem persisted.
Also, since the attachment option sometimes does not work for me, I am including the public Dropbox links for the two attached files:
what the best way to project a spline onto a edit poly 3d surface. i would like to maintain adjustability of the spline and have it morph an instance projection onto the surface if possible.
I have to animate a long tentacle like object eminating from something , wrapping around another object and pulling it backwards. I have been looking at splineIK,pflow and some other approaches but they only cover part of the animation I need.
I am playing with PFlow and I can get something to spawn along a spline path to wrap around the object but not sure how to simulate the thing retracting and pulling the object with it.
I am trying to use a spline to deform hairs on a object.
I have 1 editable spline, with multiple splines attached to it(1 spline which has been rotated), but when I use it to comb the hairs, it will only take 1 or 2 of the splines, so it all goes in 1 direction, rather then all outwards from the center, like the splines are.
The splines are all the same, all in one shape, and all have the first vertex in the center.
I have tried re-creating the splines, but it comes out the same.
I have created a big spline. When I tried to "Convert to poly", it doesn't work. Usually, as result, the spline appears with a filled. In my case, the spline disappears. I thought it might be because the spline is not closed, but it is correct.
I tried both linking and using a point attach constraint, which attached the hair to the head, but when I add a walk cycle everything goes and the body leaves the hair behind.
I can't find any tutorials for attaching spline hair!
how I can easily find openings in a spline and/or overlapping vertices and edges that prevent the extrude modifier from working correctly? I very frequently need to import .DWG's and .AI's and many times they have hundreds of vertices. Even after I apply a normalize spline modifier to diminish the vertex count, it can be quite tedious to find breaks and overlaps. I find fiddling with the weld verts also to be a pain (usually removes more vertices than I want). I just want to graphically see it on the screen the problematic areas if possible. Attached is a good example. I can easily see on 2 of the splines the yellow vertex to signify start/finish but on the 3rd spline I don't see anything. There are 2 vertices in the same spot and it looks like 1 white vertex. I've never really used Xview but I'm probably not using it correctly. When I use it I get a bunch of green vertices that aren't in any way overlapping.
I don't seem to be able to increase the number of control vertices in an IK Spline. The number of bones in the chain upon which the Spline is set doesn't seem to affect the number of control vertices I have to work with when creating the spline and I can't find a way to increase the number. I'm trying to animate a fish but finding it difficult to get a smooth wave to travel along it's length with only four control vetices.
The surveyor's CAD file includes a boundary line that is mostly curves. It's drawn as a spline. I'm trying to create a PROPERTY LINE in Revit. I've converted the spline to a polyline in CAD. In Revit, PROPERTY LINE sketch mode, I can hghlight the polyline but can't select what I've highlights. Only one of the polylines gets selected. So I have to try to select them all one at a time. converting a spline to polyline in CAD for use in REVIT?
I have a helix spline that is pretty large. The larger I make it the more evident it is that it is made of segments. I can't find any place to adjust the interpolation. Is there any way to add more segments to smooth it out a bit?
