View 5 RepliesI have a group of Points coming from a step.file. So I don't have their coordinates, excel list or anything else. Just the step file. Around 100 points. There is a line between each 2 consecutive points.
Is there any way to select all the points and create a complete spline? Or even to select all the points and create tangent arcs between all of them?
I have a spline that goes through 4 points:-
x1,y1 - x2,y2 - x3,y3 - x4,y4
The spline is of degree 3 and is fixed at points x1, y1 and x4, y4.
What i need is the equation of the spline.
Is there anyway of calculating the equation that represents the spline?
I need to be able to extract all "X" and "Y" axis points from a "spline" created in a 2D "sketch" and display them in the "Debug" window (for test only).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a 3d surface by importing points from an excel file. I have been using "import points" in the 3d sketch mode, and checked off the box that says "create 3d spline." But this just causes Inventor to freeze and crash. My excel file had about 2000 points, all of which lie on the surface I want to create in Inventor.
Should this method work in theory, and do I just have too many points?
I am working on a little lisp routine to draw splines, but can't get it working. The basic idea is that i first select a set of points that i can feed to my spline command.
(defun c:test2 () (setq pt (getpoint "
define point:")) (setq ptlist nil) (while (not (equal pt nil)) (setq ptlist (cons pt ptlist)) (setq pt (getpoint "
define point:")) ) )
Now i need to draw a spline based on these points. My plan whas to simply use the acad command itself. But this option didn't work.
(command "spline" ptlist "")
Then i tried using the vla-addspline command. But i can't even get this one working .
Our customer send us drawing with ellipse into. With Autocad 2008 I bought a plug-in call SplineConvert that did the job perfectly but not compatible with 2013.
Is there any plugin that could replace that tool ?
Is there any standard ACAD command that could easily do this Job ?
I need a way to make 2 or 3 times per week this converting on all ellipses of large and detail 2D drawings so no time to offset in and out all those .
I try also DXFOUT in R12 but all the spline are being converted into 3d polyline making a huge files that froze my PC.
I also try FLATTEN but did not see how it work , the ellipse stay an ellipse.
I'm trying to create an external involute spline (ANSI B92.2M) Fillet Root Side Fit 26.9mm x 1 mm x 26 teeth x 38 mm long using the spline generator with Inventor 2012. I created a test shaft"M-182-AMA.ipt" that is Ø26.9 mm x 38 mm long with 1 mm radius on each end of shaft.
I use the following steps:
1. After creating component "M-182-AMA.ipt" I select Design tab>>Power Transmission>>Involute Spline.
2. A window appears that has the caption "Involute Splines Connection Generator".In the Dimensions section I choose "Splines Type: ANSI B92.2M - 37.5 deg, Fillet Root, Side Fit, 26 x 1.00 x 38 x 5H/5h" and change the Length to 38 mm.
3. In the Shaft Groove section I use Create new, and I push the Reference 1 button that turns blue, I then select the od feature from the model and I get an error(see attached pic "error1.jpg).
I changed the 26.9mm od to be 27mm and it still gave me the error.

I have the outline of a solid body guitar that I drew with spline, extruded and now trying put a 1/2" fillet radius along the edges, top and bottom.
Using the 3d fillet command produces an error, and extruding a profile along the edge path doesn't work either.
Attached is the spline outline, the red part is what needs the fillet, but the white part does not. However, they can't be extruded into a 3d solid unless their joined!
We have some details of Internal Involute Spline profile,.Now it has to be made by EDM Wire cutting,.I need the nomenclature of Internal Involute,.
I browsed in Internet and I found some details, but all of them explaining Major Dia, Minor Dia, Spline pitch, Circular Pitch, tooth Thickness, etc,.But I need how to draw the involute,Please see the attachment "How to draw this" Automated Programs are secondary, reasons,.
1. I am a Mechanical Engineer, I should know how to Draw it, also I am addict in Mechanical Engineering, so I like to know it,.
2. Installing Software's are prohibited in our organization, it can not be done without Higher officials permission, also it will take time to finish this process,.
I am trying to build a spiral staircase and need to use spline to build the railings. Every time I try to end the spline by hitting enter the spline disappears. I am using 2014, and I have never had this problem before with previous versions.

View 5 Replies View RelatedPoints began showing up in my xref'd file. When I click them, they select the xref, so they are objects and not artifacts. I can XLIST the points in the xref and turn on/off those layers but in the base file, these points do not exist anywhere.
This is the only article I could find on the mystery dots: [URL]
I tried the solution to COPYBASE, delete all, and purge, but they persist. It is happening on at least two layers.
Is there a special snap setting to snap to a point/node? I'm not talking about a endpoint or midpoint or anything like that. I mean a "node" that is set with the "POINT" command. I can't snap to any nodes I create.
View 3 Replies View Related[URL] When I use a point on an existing geometry as reference to place a new line or shape, I get a strange result when attemting to move either geometry.
As you can see in the video the two shapes will BOTH move when only ONE is selected.
Also, it seems that the shape/ lines that are not selected but still move are anchored somewhow which causes distortion.

I've just finished up a ground level survey. I've jotted the coordinate and levels down in my notebook and typed them up on Excel. I'm having trouble getting the coordinates from excel into AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 version.
I'm VERY new to this sort of stuff as a trainee site engineer the most I do is simply take coordinates from a drawing to set out on site. I'm importing the points from file using Civil 3D.
I've simply saved the coordinate on excel as, for example:
430245.454 434264.654 62.321
I get this error "No point file format match found" when I try and import them. I've had a look at some Youtube videos and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe it's the file type I'm saving it under.
This problem has just started to occur and frankly, I'm totally stuck. When I created 3d objects to represents conduits runs in a building, they worked fine. However, when I saved and reopened my file, the objects are shown in different locations, yet their snap points (endpoints, midpoints, arcs, etc) are shown in the correct location. I have attached an image showing what I mean to clarify. I am using Autocad 2014 and Civil 3D 2014.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI´ve used AutoCAD for a while but this just appeared. The reference points are not displayed on a current line (or any other figure) when I want to join another figure with it, what I mean is that the little green x or square figures won´t appear when I want to join two objects at a point. If I create a circle, for example, and I want to create another circle around it, both with the same origin, AutoCAD won´t display that origin automatically.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013, now installing Service Pack 1 (kept crashing, this time it's working though), and I'm trying to find the area of a pathway that I've drawn in 2D with standard lines. Using the area tool, I want to find the area of the path, but it arcs around a 180 degree corner. I tried getting a rough estimate of the area by clicking at several points along each of the arcs, but after clicking a point where the arc joins the straight line of the straight section of the path, it literally won't let me click the next point. I can, however, specify the next point as long as it's nowher near the arc. Same goes for the polyline tool.
Just got an error code for the Service Pack installation, too. "A problem prevented the service pack from being installed, contact your administrator. Error 1603"
In previous versions, grip editing a point from one place to another maintained the point elevation regardless of how the point was moved. For instance, drag it from it's current location and snap to the end of a line. In 2013 the point elevation now changes to match the elevation of the point snapped to.
Is there a new setting to control how points react to Osnaps? Or are we now expected to use the .XY filter (without ever being notified of this change in workflow)?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to use the move tool and hover over an object, the marker tool bounces around and has trouble finding the selection point. When I zoom in close to get the exact point on a line - it doesn't select anything, so I can't actually move an object.
I've tried adjusting the object snap settings however this doesn't seem to be working.
i have a series of points from a cross section taken using an adcp and i am trying to draw the cross section in autoCAD lt 2014. is there a way i can enter the points as a sort of script so i dont have to manually typoe in the distance and height between each point as i have about 200 points in each cross section.

if there is a simple way of pushing multiple Polylines to meet a final line that I draw. For instance if there is a zigzagged line, and I drew a line through the middle of it (in a similar direction).
Is there a command or script that would push all of the points on the zig-zag to meet with the straight line I drew?
