3ds Max Animation :: Lock Sub-object Face Selection
Sep 6, 2013
I have a triangular shape that is against a thin surface. I need to move the pointed end around but I need for the wider end 'face selection' to stay put or be locked in space. The rig was made with bones and skin with constrain and look-at controllers on the bone and nub.
I've tried linking verts to point helpers with linked xform and I've tried every kind of contrasting I can find and I just can't get the result I need. My goal is to have the end faces lie on the thin purple wall and be perfectly locked to it so that when I move the point everything else follows but the faces against the wall to be rock solid.
You'll see me move the pointed end around. Then you'll see me select the faces on the end.
I'm rigging a shoulder pad to a biped and I'd like it to only rotate on one axis. Google hasn't been that useful, and I hope I don't need scripting for this kind of minor thing. I'm rather new to 3Ds Max Design but I'm learning fast and liking it so far!
I've attached what I want to effectively accomplish. I'm looking for a way to lock the z-axis of the object with the upper arm's z-axis.
I've created a model of an iPod Nano fourth gen (wich is no where near perfect). This model has a lock switch as a seperate object. What I'd like to do is make a slider helper object and when I move it, the lock switch gradually goes from locked to unlocked. I don't know how I'd have to make this except for the fact that I'd probably have to use a script controller for the position of the switch and have the script work in the parent's (the iPod body) local coordinate system. But I don't have enough knowledge of MAXscript for that and maybe there's a diffrent approach.
Is there any way to freeze/lock selections from all layers other then current layer automatically-like we do in Photoshop where no object other then selected layer is select able.
I have to switch layers quite often and not want to select objects from any layer other then current layer. but for this i have to first freeze the previous layer and then unfreeze the current layer and so on.
I've created a mech robot and now I want to create a rig for it. But the problem is, that none of the joints are 'ball and socket joints'. So the joints can only rotate in one dimension, like a typical mechanical joint. My first solution was simply locking two out of three rotation axis for the bones and this works fine for FK animation. For IK animation however, it doesn't work. The locks are simply ignored. Is there any way to lock a rotation axis for an IK bone system?
Nothing is more tedious than not being able to use the direct selection tool to grab multiple points because there is another shape under it on a different layer. I'd think that locking those layers would prevent selection, but it does not.
I am a CorelDraw rookie with a deadline and I am stuck. The problem is this: I have a lot of texts and at times there are objects that should come within the text. So I put it there nicely but when I delete or add something in the text, the object does not follow the text so it all gets in a mess. Is there any way to lock an object to a certain point in the text, so when the text changes the object follows? Does it make sense?
I just exported the animation rig option from Face Robot to dotxsi. When I try to import the dotxsi to a new Softimage scene there is no animation. What am I missing?
we are 3 students planing a short animated Film for university, the character will be modeled in the next week and we are planning the rigs right now. We thought one guy is doing the Facial Rigging and another Guy the Body Rigging. Is it possible to combine the weight maps etc to get a perfectly working solution?
At the moment I just have sphere with a blue color (material ID 1) applied to it. At specific times and moments, I would like to apply a red color (material ID 2) to specific faces of the sphere under the subobject mode, and stay there.
so that the sphere continuously over time gets red material on its faces. I'm using poly select, and edit poly but its not working. Is there a way to animate this?

How to lock an picture (png, for example) to a moving object in Corel VideoStudio X5? maybe i might use some plugins? i know that in some video editing software this option exist and simply to use. is it real in videostudio x5?
Can I assign a hot key/combo to lock, and/or unlock objects? When you right click on an object, the LOCK command shows an underline beneath the "L" indicating that this is possible, but I cannot figure out the magic combo.
Is there a way to lock the material of an object, ie wood grain on a stud, so if the stud is rotated, the material stays in the original orientation to the object instead of stay relative to the world?
I'm using illustrator (CS6) to animate a simple marionette type figure.
I'm using the Rotation tool to turn body parts around their usual connection points, moving the transform centre point each time. I'm wondering if it's possible to "lock" the centre point for any individual object to a certain offset from the object's actual centre, so that every time I reselect an object to move it I'm always rotating it around exactly the same place. I find that if I have to move the centre point from the real centre to where I want to rotate around every time, I'm not getting the exact same spot in relation to the object's bounds, which makes for some weird movements.
For example, the rectangle that makes up the upper arm should have its rotation point always about ten pixels down from the top and in the horizontal centre of the object. The elbow right at the top edge, but also in the horizontal centre, of the lower arm. etc.
I have modelling a face in maya 2011. I can see some youtube videos how they put dots in their face, and the 3d-face capture the dots movements. [URL] ....
I want to use dots in my face and a cheap web camera. Does this work in maya 2011? Or do I have to use MotionBuilder? What is the name of the dots?
When I am working with 3D models, autocad keeps changing my ucs by a face I am near. I want to work in the current ucs and not change. How to change this setting?
When I apply a material to a mass element the material follow the world UCS, that's ok with me. But when i rotate the mass element the material map remains with the world UCS but not with the object.
How to lock the material map to the object when I rotate it.
I would like to lock the size of an object regardless of the zoom percentage. When I am zooming in on a vector map (main layer) the objects (on different layers) becomes very big. So I should be able to zoom in/out on the vector map, but the objects shall keep the same size. How can I do this?
I've got a character that is based on a product and I want the face to animate without distorting the texture. ie I'd like the texture to slide across the geometry in a specific way as it animates.
I've animated the UV coordinates so that it does this, but I'd like to link the UV keys to the morpher modifier so that they animate automatically.
When I select an object and pan to make another selection the first object "deselects". The object(s) will stay selected until I pan and as soon as I start to pan the grips go away and the object(s) is deselected.
My question is how do I take one object like a face of one person and replace it with that of another? I got to submit a school project and this is part of it....
I have a large object from which 3 small legs protrude out as in the 1st picture. The faces of each of these legs are at a slight angle in world coordinates.
I have a small cylinder which I want to snap to a face seen in picture 1. My problem is that I simply don't know how to snap the cylinder's side to the face. As you can see in picture 2, a part of the cylinder is in the object, the other part is outside of the object.
I know I could use the rotate tool, but I want perfect face alignment. 1) Is it possible? 2) How
