3ds Max :: Adding Material To Editable Polygons

I'm trying to model a chair, however the texture near my pillow edges are distorting. I understand its got something to do with my polygons but how do i fix this? I want the texture tiling to match around the whole pillow if that makes sense.

3ds Max :: Incorrect Material Render With Attached Polygons

I have a problem with materials not evenly displaying across modified polygons.
 
I started with the dynamic object SPRING, duplicated it then converted both to editable polys. I attached the second poly to the first and bridge two ends to create a continuous spring (there is a reason in another project rather than just changing the height of the 1st spring).
 
When I apply a material, in this case a standard material that has the diffuse mapped to a bitmap that is a colour spectrum, I find that instead of having one continuous colour gradient from top to bottom, the spring has 3 definate areas that it applies the gradient to. The 3rd bridged area which itself is only a few polys, has the entire spectrum applied just to it.
 
I basically want a single change of colour from top to bottom that matches the material.
 
I'm thinking there are hidden settings when you attach polys together, that doesnt reset the overall mapping.
 
Below is a snapshot of the problem, where you can clearly see the gradient that applies itself through the top spring, bottom spring, and differently again in the bridged section. I couldn't provide the working file (.max), as the site doesn't allow this upload.

3ds Max Modeling :: Make Editable Mesh / Poly Transparent With Material

Is there a way to make an editable mesh or poly somewhat transparent when a material is applied? Think of the material being a thin cloth such as nylon. You can't see directly through it, but it isn't like a thick material such as jeans etc. I also want to make this object deform like a balloon inflating, so I don't know if that will cause issues with transparency.

Maya :: Adding Material - Pixelation And Tessellation?

adding material problem. It looks pixelated and it doesn't appear to be covering correctly. The error message is on the screen but it reads when I add the material: "Warning: Mesh shape extruded surface shape20 has no triangles in tessellation." I'm also rendering it at 300 dpi... and have at 72 as well.

Did I screw up my initial polygon column.Just a simple column design..What you see is just with the standard color (metallic) that comes with Maya. But even with my own texture stock material it doesn't work which you can see in the column closer to the screen.

I installed the full version of AutoCAD 2012 and also downloaded some additional material libraries. I am having trouble changing a property of a solid body in one of my iparts. I have a concrete block which has been created as an ipart and 6 bars running through the concrete block. I am looking to change the material properties of the bars to Alloy Steel but i'm having trouble finding any option to do so. I have changed the material properties within the ipart table to concrete, i'm not sure if this is conflicting it.

3ds Max :: Converting Editable Mesh To Editable Poly Creates Extra Geometry?

A simple editable mesh object, a piece of terrain, which has standard texture on it an no modifiers, just some UV's on channel 1.

Whenever I add "edit poly" modifier or convert it to editable poly, additional geometry will be created. Statistics show that only vertex count of the selected object goes up about 6x but no additional faces are generated. This not the case when check on a sub-object level, there are lot of additional faces created. I've never seen this happen, jumping between edit poly and edit mesh has been easy without any errors like this.

I've tried the same model with 2013 as well - same results. Also tried collapsing the object, removing uv-mapping, different materials, attaching the mesh to empty box, etc, garbage collection, exporting it to obj and importing - even then same thing happens.

I am trying to run a Frame analysis on a beam structure. I wanted a specific yield stress for the components that make up the beam. So I created a new material and changed the yield stress and change my beam components to that new material. However when I run the simulation the yield stress is not what I made it. Is this allowed?

Any way to add a new field into the materials database. We would like to be able to choose the material specification for the materials we use. So we would like to have a field for each of the materials where we could choose the material spec. It would also be great if we could then be able to connect this to our BOM. The second part I know should be able to be done but so far haven't found a way to add the material spec in like we would like.

How I can add materials to the Inventor material library. I have created and defined the material in Autodesk Simulate Mechanical and they are available in the material libraries in that program, but inaccessible in Inventor. It doubles my work load if i need to define the materials in both programs and also creates hassles if a change needs to be made to a single material.

The materials are currently saved in .mlb library files. Iventor requests a .asklib file for when trying to add a library.

3ds Max :: Creating New Material In Slate Material Edit

I upgraded to 3DsMax 2011 and still have some problems navigating the Slate Material Editor. I want to create a Mix material as the "first" material but I'm only able to double click on the Sample Slot to get a standard material in the "View1" as my "first" material. I am able to create a "Mix" node here, but it has to be connected to the "Standard" material and this makes it so that i can not drag the material in to the "Environment and Effects" tab as my "Environment Map".

When i go back to the "Compact Material Editor" (which waists time), I can select the Standard icon but "Maps" is not available in the "Material/Map Browser" when i right click on an open space.

3ds Max :: Can't Reset Material Slots In Material Editor

Im on Max 2011 with sp1 and the latest hotfix installed, working with vray 1.5 sp5. When i try to re-set mu material editor (compact not slate) i get the folllowing error message

"Runtime error: cannot assign undefined to material editor slots" and a Macro_media utilities window opens with the following script

In Xara Xtreme it was very easy to draw multiline polygons (closed or open), because the line tool used a single click to add a new segment to the already-drawn segments. Now, using Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 7 (which supposedly is the successor to Xtreme) the tool for drawing lines works completely differently and does NOT automatically join line segments to each other.

3ds Max Modeling :: Polygons Don't Blend In

Problem i encountered by attaching two objects together. These problems may occur only in the viewport, haven't tried rendering or anything, but it's still pretty annoying:
 
When i finished attaching the head to the body in a proper way, i mirrored that as well, and the polys don't blend in pretty well even tho i welded all points along the attach line
 
I mirrored half body and all these weird shadows appeared (they disappear when i activate turbosmooth).
 
All polys have same ID set and are all in the same shading group.

3ds Max :: How To Categorize Collection Of Polygons

I found a nice model on the web but i just started out so got a few questions. The standaard model exists of 1 editable mesh that i converted to editable poly.

in Editable Poly - Polygon: Material IDs, I had categorized the model in 3 diffrent groups, i want to use these 3 groups to texture the model, each group a diffrent texture.

the problem is that from the moment i assign the material to selection, I only have 2 groups left; wich is the one i just textured and the other 2 meshed in 1 group.

the problem with that is that i can only texture my model using 2 diffrent textures. How can i "save" those groups?

3ds Max :: Polygons Count As 220 With Texture

I have modeled a banana with 220 polygons . ( I have applied subdivision surface to that).

So When I baking a texture for that , The unwrap modifier adds about 771 polygons and vertices to that and model takes about 990 polygons and will convert to a high polygon model.

So what should am I do ?

Is there any way to keep polygons count as 220 with texture applied to that ?

I started University a few months back and we are currently doing an assignment with Max. Now we arent allowed to use Unwrap UVWs cos apparently thats too above us at the moment so we have to apply a texture, and then apply a UVW map. However, I know it is possible to apply a texture to selected Polygons but how do I actually go about doing this as every time I try, it just applies the texture to the whole object.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: How To Fill In Polygons In 3D Space

For my job here I have a contoured map of a sand structure. I have converted that entire 2D map into a 3D map. Showing the elevation of the contours relative to the surface. I need to know how you can hatch or fill in with color the 3d polygons that are shaping the subsurface. When i try to hatch it, it works but it just pastes it at the surface at Z:0 and even if i bring that hatch down it won't form to the multidimensional polygon that i am trying to cover. Here is a pic of what I am trying to do. 

The green / blue is the fault plane i have been able to plot as well as shade in using 3D Face, but the problem I run into for the RED contour lines is that they are arcs and when i use 3D Face it doesn't allow it to bend to conform with the arc shape.

Maya Modeling :: Shading And Polygons

I'm having trouble with shading objects I imported from SolidWorks using SimLab's plug-in. My problem is two-fold:

First, the polygons appear to have bizarre twists and bends in them, but there are no corresponding edges to create these deformations. Also, Maya thinks all the faces are planar. I tried cleaning up the objects and it yielded no results. These weird twists appear in both the work space and when rendered. I have tried deleting overlapping edges, but it didn't work.

Second, when I try to apply a bump map to my objects, they don't work. I tried using a noise and a fractal bump map and neither appear on the rendered image. However, the Brownian bump map works. I have tried creating other objects in the scene and the noise and fractal bump maps work just fine on those, just not on my imported geometry. I figured out a brute-force method to make the bump maps work - I delete a polygon and use the append tool to create a new polygon - but I have over 110,000 polygons on this thing.

I'm working on an 8-core MacPro running Windows 7 64bit with 32 GB RAM and two GeForce 9500GT video cards.

I've create a large scene with a lot of mrPoxy trees. I realize now that I need a velocity map and some volumetric lights for post, and the scanline render seems like a better option.
