Xara :: White Line Around Exported JPEG?
Mar 23, 2012
This is probably a ridiculously simple thing. I have just started with Xara Photo and Graphic designer 7, and gone through the vids. I am finally acknowledging that Adobe Image Styler (my sweet baby!) is going to have to be given up. Coming from that, I am finding Xara more challenging to use.
When I save an image (jpeg), it exports with a tiny white line around it. I am trying to make a gradient image for a website, and need the edges to blend when I have it repeated (background image).

I am trying to make a simple wallpaper. I check everything carefully. Make the page 1280 x 800. Make sure the alignment is ok by inserting measurements in the boxes - ie not dragging. Make sure no object is secretly sticking out a bit. I have deleted the page's shadow. But no matter what I do I find there is a white box around the wallpaper I export. Can't figure out why, and can't get rid of it. I have also noticed that sometimes, even though I have set all objects to have a 0 point - ie be butted up against the page - their measurement suddenly will show 7px or such like and it will spring back into misalignment.
I just want to make a simple 1280 x 800 wallpaper for a client, something very easy.

Every time i make a JPEG image it comes out with a thin white line at the bottom and left side of the image (kinda looks like a border line). Is there any way to take that off? I can't seem to make a seamless black pattern with those lines there....

When I export an image from CorelDraw to a jpeg, or png, (or probably anything for that matter) and try to use it in my web design program I get the little 1 pixel wide white line. WTH? I then have to take it into corel photo paint and erase that one pixel line, in order for it to be gone.
I've used Corel Draw since version 4 I think and this problem has existed in every version Corel has put out. I like the product, I find it easy to use but this glitch is maddening.

I'm trying to export a JPEG so that the file size is smaller, for use on the web. So the file I have is 1.1 MB. I try to export via LR4 using the percentage slider, but no matter what percentage I use, the file size is always GREATER than 1.1 MB! And if I try to limit the size by inputing a value, say 1000 kb, I get an error message saying I can't do that for some reason:
Also, this is not the case with just one file, it is numerous files.

i just noticed that changing the PPI from 240 (taken with my Canon) to 100 and exporting the photos to JPEG sized as 2MP have no change at all in size. Shouldn't 100PPI be smaller in size?

I'm having the issue where after working with RAW images and having exported them to JPEG they come out dull and less saturated.
I'm running Windows 7, LR 5.2. My monitor has been professionally calibrated, and I'm using Irfanview to view the jpegs afterwards. I've also made sure that I'm saving them in sRGB.

I am working on a project that requires the images I create must be at least 250 DPI, preferably 300 DPI.
When I export, I am specifying 300 DPI, but the resulting image is only 96.
Is there a setting somewhere that is causing them to revert back?

I exported images in JPEG format. To get a quick view, (TV Toshiba) I loaded several images on a USB key . To my suprise I could not see the photo edited with Gimp .
I made a test. I made the same action (crop) on the same images with different retouching programs. Than I exported the images in JPEG, loaded on USB key, to see them on TV screen . The software I tested
Gimp 2.8 - ViewNX2 Nikon - Xnview - Capture NX2 - Photoshop - view
I got confirmation, images from Gimp were not recognized while all the other could be seen very well.

I would like the caption or title to show as an overlay on exported jpeg files. How do I do it? Do I need to do it in Photoshop or can I directly do it in Lightroom 5 CC.

I have been playing around with the exporting options to a JPEG file (such as low sharpening, high sharpening, etc.). However I did not track what I was doing diligently as I assumed I could "read" it later. For example, a particular picture has 4 exports several minutes apart. I can line up each export based on exported name and time stamp. But I can't tell what options I selected during the exporting process. Is there a way to find out what export options I selected for a particular export? No other develop changes were made, just playing around with the export options.

Open Xara Designer 7 for Windows - demo version.
1) Create a solid block of colour at an integer coordinate (say 0,0).
2) Make it an integer width and height (say 128 x 128)
3) Export
4) Choose '.png' (or '.jpg' - the same effect will manifest)
5) Zoom into the preview and see the weird discoloured edges produced
Alternatively, do the same thing with 'Create Bitmap Copy' and observe the same results.
I'm aware that if you have non-integer sizes/positions it anti-aliases, but this isn't supposed to happen if you rectify these.
[Edit: I think I found out what it was: on my Pro version, I have the option to minimise anti-aliasing, which might well be the issue. Oddly, I can't reproduce the problem at all on my Pro version, but only on my brother's demo version!]

I've occasionally created some tone-mapped pictures from multiple exposure brackets using the Luminance HDR program. But when I import the jpegs exported from Luminance to Xara, their Red and Blue channels appear to get swapped.
I can fix it by using a Live Effect. But why does this happen? Is there a way to losslessly avoid this before importing to Xara? Because Live Effects impose their own resolution limitations on the image.

I just started using Lightroom 4.1 Trial version (coming from Aperture). I exported JPEG versions of some images using an ICC profile. On my iMac running Lion 10.7.5 the pictures do not show a thumbnail, the file on the desktop just shows "JPEG". I could not open the file with the Preview App, but I am able to open it with DPP (Canon software)? Also the file shows that it has 0 x 0 dimentions when I click Get Info even though it is about 25 Megs in size?
The message I get is "The file “Edit-739820120223Canon EOS 7D.jpg” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."

I have recently upgraded to X6 from X3. After design work I would export the file to jpeg for client approval. I used Apple Mail 5.2 to attach the jpeg file but my problem is the client cannot open the file. It just turns out blank with a little cross. I cannot figure out what is the problem during the export process. I have no problem at all with X3.

Running Designer pro 6.1.2.13287 on Windows 7 Home Premium
I'm probably bumbling around and buggering up the export of png formatted images, but it appears something besides transparency is getting exported as backbround.
I do `Select all' then export to png.The poorly drawn green arrows were added in photoshop to show the area I'm talking about. The xara document which is apparently also getting exported in some way.At least certain other tools see a black background in that area. Not all tools have that problem with the image. For example; photoshop sees only transparency there.
But when I browse the exported *.png files with `Epson print CD', it sees black in that area as illustrated by the screen grab below. The first two images look clean as expected (I'll explain in a moment) but the third (the one that hasn't been cleaned in Photoshop) shows the black background in that area.
The first two were cleaned up in photoshop and now appear clean as expected. So to get a usable image for import into Epson's tool I must:
1) Export as PNG from Xara
2) Open with Photoshop and run thru a procedure where anything outside the outer blue ring in the image is deleted.(Even though PS only sees transparency, if I select everything from the blue ring outward and delete it, saving back to png, then Epson's tool sees transparency there)
3) Import into `Epson Print CD' and print the graphic to a printable DVD.
How can I skip the second step? That is, how can I get a clean export in step one? What is it that some tools are seeing as black background?

Is there a way to export a document @ a different resolution than 72DPI? I know I can set the horizontal/vertical scale to save it at a larger dimension at 72DPI, but I need the file to be actual size and 300DPI.
This is part of a larger process, and I'd prefer to do the entire process from Illustrator, and not have to open the files in Photoshop to change the size/resolution.
Also, is it possible to change the color mode to CMYK or Greyscale for the exported Jpeg?

I have been working with Xara for two days now, and it's great! I am using the trial version of Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 9. I created a file with a couple of transparent shapes (love the transparency tool - so easy!), and it looked great. I exported to .pdf, and the transparent gradient was all gone. The shapes are there, but have no gradient whatsoever.
I also exported it as a .jpg and the gradients are present in the .jpg. In other words, the .xar file looks great and the .jpg looks great. Just the .pdf doesn't work.

First - I am not an expert in the Color settings/Profiles topic but I am thinking there is an issue here.
When I look at this image "McCroreyDigitalLogo.png" in Photoshop the 'whites' appear right. Then when I import it into ms PowerPoint, the whites look yellowish.
I have done a series of 'tests' and it seems to be that the color profile out of photoshop and the one in PowerPoint are not compatible.I have reset my Photoshop preferences with no luck/change to the results.
Finally, I did a screen shot out of photoshop and pasted that into Powerpoint. The white appeared correct. Basically any files I run through PS, when they are imported into PowerPoint, the whites turn yellow.

I am using live paint to paint cartoon character illustrations. The artwork is brought into Illustrator CS3 and live traced. Then I convert it to a live paint group and use the paint bucket to fill. Everything looks fine no matter how much I zoom in. If I bring the AI file into Photoshop CS6 I can see a thin white line between the black line art and the fill. This is most noticeable where black meets black. I can also see this sometimes in file previews while browsing through files. If the white line cannot be seen in Illustrator is the file ok? I did just upgrade to CS6 if that would make a difference.

I have Corel Photoshop x4. Angelize had displayed a mockup of my header page (to demonstrate some suggested changes). In that mockup, she took one of my wooden bowl jpegs, eliminated all background, and inserted only the bowl image on my page. I can't for the life of me figure out how she did that. Here is a picture of what she displayed as well as the original photo of the wooden bowl.

This seemed like a big update and took a while on my multiple computers. Before the update I was having glitches exporting my xar drawings to jpg files. It was hit or miss with only small fragments saved, weird file extensions such as Einstein.xar.jpg, needing to save as instead, needing to type the extension, etc. I always had to check my save folder afterwards to make sure exporting worked. It seems like this is now solved and have not had a problem exporting since.
If I am working on a xar file and want to make a jpg file from it, is there any difference between exporting it as a jpg and saving it as a jpg?
