When I import a 26.8 MB (5616 x 3744) CR2 RAW file from a Canon 5DMKII into Lightroom 4.4 and then export it as a JPEG sRGB Quality 100 file, it's size is 13.4 MB. When I do the same thing in Aperture 3.4.3 the exported JPEG file size is 20.8 MB. Am I doing something wrong in Lightroom?

I try to export via LR4 using the percentage slider, but no matter what percentage I use, the file size is always GREATER than 1.1 MB! And if I try to limit the size by inputing a value, say 1000 kb, I get an error message saying I can't do that for some reason:

I know the size will vary, but when I am exporting a collection of raw files and I have set the max file size to a certain amount, Lr sometimes won’t convert all the images because I have limited the file size too small. I’d like to be able to get a handle on some sort of quality/file size relationship before I start the export process.
I'm having the issue where after working with RAW images and having exported them to JPEG they come out dull and less saturated.
I'm running Windows 7, LR 5.2. My monitor has been professionally calibrated, and I'm using Irfanview to view the jpegs afterwards. I've also made sure that I'm saving them in sRGB.
I have recently upgraded to X6 from X3. After design work I would export the file to jpeg for client approval. I used Apple Mail 5.2 to attach the jpeg file but my problem is the client cannot open the file. It just turns out blank with a little cross. I cannot figure out what is the problem during the export process. I have no problem at all with X3.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been playing around with the exporting options to a JPEG file (such as low sharpening, high sharpening, etc.). However I did not track what I was doing diligently as I assumed I could "read" it later. For example, a particular picture has 4 exports several minutes apart. I can line up each export based on exported name and time stamp. But I can't tell what options I selected during the exporting process. Is there a way to find out what export options I selected for a particular export? No other develop changes were made, just playing around with the export options.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running into an issue trying to complete processing of some images. I have converted a Canon CR2 raw file to TIFF, then opened into PSP X4. Now I wish to save as a JPG file. I've flattened & converted to 8-bit RGB. When I go to save it pops up an error stating: "An error has occurred while trying to write to the file". I can save the TIFFs, I can save to PNG, PSP, BMP, and presumably everything else. All except JPG--which is of course what is required. I can create an image from scratch and save to JPG. I've tried simply copying the image and pasting to a new image, then saving with the same error. Same with opening the PSP image back up & trying to save as JPG. I am updated to the latest patch just released.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just started using Lightroom 4.1 Trial version (coming from Aperture). I exported JPEG versions of some images using an ICC profile. On my iMac running Lion 10.7.5 the pictures do not show a thumbnail, the file on the desktop just shows "JPEG". I could not open the file with the Preview App, but I am able to open it with DPP (Canon software)? Also the file shows that it has 0 x 0 dimentions when I click Get Info even though it is about 25 Megs in size?
The message I get is "The file “Edit-739820120223Canon EOS 7D.jpg” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."

I'm shotting RAW+Jpeg and when importing i use jpeg and raw as separate files.
Now i understand that colors are very different, but,
I'm trying to match the CR2 from my Canon 5D Mark 2 to the jpeg with no luck!
I have tried using the "profile" menu in the "camera calibration section but again no luck.
I have also tried manipulating every single slider combination (allmost) and again, no good result.
is there a good fast and useful way of achieving a match between the raw and the jpeg?!
I have an image where I desaturated most of the image, with a lot of small brush strokes around an intricate tattoo. I also applied other saturation and hue adjustments. Upon exporting as a jpg, the image size is 3mb, compared to file sizes of 400-500kb for images without so much manipulation. How do I "flatten" the image to get smaller file sizes?

Lightroom is running on MacPro. When printing I am attaching an ICC profile provided by the bureau that is going to produce the prtins. Having said this the file cannot be opened neither on a Mac nor on a Windows PC.
Up until now, i used to exported as TIFFs but after reading Jeff Schewe book The Digital Print i have become convinced that printing through LR to a file is much more efficient.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I edit my photo in "Develop" and do any sharpening in the Details menu (or with a brush for that matter), it looks great in "Develop" but then when I export it the sharpening effect is not there!. It seems all the other adjustments I make (temp, exposure,..) are all in the imported file but the sharpening is NOT . Also the sharpening adjustsments dont appear on the photo in Library either. I am not reducing the size or resultion of the photo in the export.

I make my adjustmenst in Lightroom and many images I pull from Lightroom into Photoshop CS5 and do additional artistic touches there. I save from Photoshop so that it re-opens it back in Lightroom with my Photoshop adjustments. After I have done this with all of my images I then export the images my clients select for their purchased disc. This where I am concerned...
What I know had once started out as large raw files are quite small by the dimension size, average approximate dimensions are 4750x3170. File settings are set to quality 100 and under Image Sizing I do not have 'resize to fit' checked. On occasion I have used the crop feature in Lightroom but not on many images and all of my images are small not just certain ones.
I am fairly new to Lightroom but nervous about using it right now. I am actually postponing editing a new session until I can get some clear answers or I may just have to tackle the whole session in Photoshop like I used to because I will at least know that file sizes will not decrease in size.
On my previous version of Photoshop (CS4) when I saved a PSD file as JPEG Level 8, 10 or whatever, the file size in megabytes was then shown. I presume I can configure Photoshop CS5 to do this but I'm just not sure how.
View 8 Replies View Relatedthis is in regards to a Lightroom 3.5 exported JPG. This was a year ago when I had been told it was best to export files with simple renumbering of them from 1 to x... instead of retaining the original RAW 4-digit file name.
I've currently lost the original files, and need to do a search for them via these 4 digits to see if I have them tucked away in any of my drives. I downloaded a metadata explorer, and it's telling me all the lightroom editing information, and everything else, but somehow does not have the simplest of information — that 4 digit original file name.
Am I grasping at straws or is there likely to be any way to find this information out? I don't work with metadata, so there wouldn't have been any customizations to how Lightroom configures this...
Random files are being corrupted in my library. Sometimes the preview image is corrupted sometimes not. But upon export images are being corrupted as well so I cannot export certain images anymore for anything because they get corrupted everytime.
I have installed the updates etc I keep my main librarys on a external drive. Im on a fairly new imac.
Search results in LIGHTROOM exported as text file.
I want to seach LIGHTROOM and then get a text file of the results of a search. I find noting on this.
I used to have the option to export to full size jpeg. I got a new computer and now I do not have the option. Am I missing a free download or something that came after the original? I have LR version 2.7

In vX4, whenever I edit and save a jpeg file (using save & save as), it results in a reduced number of Mb's. Options in the 'save as' dialog are set at best. It would appear that PSP X4 is automatically optimising. Is there any way that the original file size can be retained on saving after editing?

I am importing into iPhoto and then copying the RAW files into a folder designated only for LR3.I've downloaded the Adobe Camera Raw 6.6 update and the LR3 Mac 3.6 update.what I am doing incorrectly as Adobe states LR3 supports Canon's CR2 RAW files.
I would like the file number text to show up on some of my exported JPG images. I need this for the purpose of looking up the original file. All I see in the watermark section is the ability to hard code text only. Is there a way to do this inside LR? Perhaps a plugin?
Alternately, is there 3rd party utility to do this to a whole folder of exported JPGs? That would be messy, but I really need to ID certain event photos ON the photo.
LR 3.6 has serious limitations causing what should be an easy task hours to trouble shoot. Exporting original size JPEG images to DVD should be a no brainer but the application was not built to handle MS OS 7 64bit. Choice is to upgrade to LR v 4 but will it work?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running PSPX3. the effect of no compression (or compression factor = 1) on saving files. I've got a JPEG image file straight from my camera that's approximately 4.1MB in size. If I do nothing else but "Save As" with a compression factor of 1, the new file size is approximately 50% larger, or 6.2MB. What has changed to make the file size larger? Both images are still 72DPI, 3648X2736px. I can't image that I have done anything to "improve" image quality, so why did the file size increase?
