I am on Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 2013.I have a headshot that I can cut out of a larger photo using the freehand tool to trace the edges and then subtract the background that I want cropped out.
Now, I'm trying to figure out how I can apply some kind of transparency to the edges to soften them up a bit so they aren't so stark and will overlay nicely over my site background once the image is uploaded.
I'm trying to blur some text so that it blends in with the background a little. I found the perfect way to do this using the Live Effect, Soften Filter, Motion Blur. However, when I finish getting it to blur to exactly how I need it to look, there is no option to apply this to the text. When I close the box (the only option available) I lose the effect! How do I get it to apply to my text? Do I need to change the text to a shape first?

The form seems pixellised and i have to get the same form with better quality.

When moving a selected portion of an image from one canvas to another or even within the same canvas, I have a hard edge on the selection that I'm moving. How do I soften the edge of the selected area to make a smooth transition. When I move the selected area to where I want it, a hard edge gives the appearance that it has infact been moved, whereas if the edges were smooth or softer, it would have a more of a blend and not be as obvious that something has been moved.

The transition form where the hall ends and the green stuff I pasted begins. The edge is to hard or something. I don't know how to explain it but it is obvious that there can be made some progress there. How to make those edges more natural?

I have succsssfully used the Transform=>Skew command to 'square' a photo of an art canvas. And have cropped the photo to the edge of the canvas.
Question:
What are the steps/strategy to selecting the black/dark background and converting to a transparent or lighter color.
I have been having this problem for a while now that whenever I extrude or create something thats not totally smooth the edges by default are hardened. For example if I create a 12 faced cylinder it will hard edge everything including the verticle edges. Back when I first started using Maya i dont remember having to select specific edges to soften which can get very tedious and take up time.
I feel like there should be some sort of way to harden horizontal edges and soften verticle edges but I cant find the solution anywhere. Is there any way to change the default soften/harden edges?

I am trying to apply a selective blur to a photograph. What I am doing is using the Polygonal Lasso and select around my item. Then I try to use the Ctl +I to invert, but when I do that, the image inside the lasso tool looks polorized. What I am trying to get. it using the Gaussian Blur to blur everything in the background and not the item that I have applied the lasso tool to, everything in the lasso should be clear and everything outside (the background) should be blured.
I am getting this tio from a book called "Retouching cookbook for digital photographers" and it is a simple tip, but it is not turning out.
I was wondering, how do you blur just the edges of your image in photoshop? I want it to blend more with a black background with a graphic i am doing in Illustrator
View 1 Replies View RelatedI go through the steps and while in the lens blur screen, it looks like it's working. Then I hit OK once I'm happy with my level of blur but then the blur doesn't apply. I've redone this a number of times, rebooted, etc. Has worked a couple times but mostly doesn't. Is this a bug?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a scrpit for Illustrator which generates cycloidal curves (hypocycloid, epicycloid, rhodonea) and would like to explore my options for creating a blur across the path. The generated images will be saved as a PNG and then used in another program for an optical research application. So far, I have learned that it is not possible to access any of the effects through javascript. I also looked into applying a graphic style (as found in several other posts), however I need to have control over the amount of blur applied.
As an alternative, I've been working with applying a radial gradient across the path (whcih is possible using javascript). This achieves an effect which is 'close enough' however. Here is an image of the result generated using a 'rhodonea' curve:
My issue is: How do I blend the path at the intersections to get something like this (generated with the 'gaussian blur' effect):
I have a picture has hard edges and I was able to blend these edges using lasso, mask and then Gaussian blur, check attached picture. is there a another way can produce better result or that result is enough ?

how to get the desired end result. When applying the Gaussian blur effect, I find that doing this always adds additional width or height to my object which makes the graphic larger than the desired size. To be more specific, I have a rectangle that is 640px by 100px and I want to add an element on top of that is 640px by 4px. I add the Gaussian blur effect to the 640px by 4px object so that my rectangle appears to have depth and my overall graphic is not flat. The problem comes when I export the both elements because the Gaussian blur has now increased the width of my graphic to be larger then desired. Is there a why to add the Gaussian blur effect without increasing the width of my graphic? The final result is a graphic width of 656px.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to apply a transparency to a beveled rectangle and was unsuccessful to get any effect to apply. Tried to make the bevel first and then apply transparency and vice-versa, a transparent rectagle and tried to do bevel effect. Neither way would work.
Don't they play nice together, or do I have to try it in PP?
Is there any way to apply transparency to a color when using the recolor artwork box? I am dealing with a lot of puppet warp and gradients so it would be nice if I could use the recolor artwork box, instead of looking for all the colors manually.
As you can see from the screenshot, there is a lot of colors to go through.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm an beginner/intermediate Photoshop user, using CS5. I'm working on an image of two women, starting from an historical photograph. I selected, copied and pasted the central image of the 2 women onto a new layer which is otherwise transparent. I then created a copy of the original photograph's layer and applied a masking layer with a radial transparency gradient, so that when the original layer is hidden, the background appears to be radially faded behind the central image. So far, so good.
However, I'd like to apply an additional "dose" of transparency around the edges, so the image fades completely at the outermost edges. And I'd like more control over this additional fading than just applying another gradient.
I've seen a video of someone "painting" transparency onto an image, but I can't quite get my brain around it. From what I've read, it looks as though I should create another layer that will be an additional masking layer... but how to do this.
My undying gratitude for any assistance to get me past this roadblock.
