Background:
I have succsssfully used the Transform=>Skew command to 'square' a photo of an art canvas. And have cropped the photo to the edge of the canvas.
Question:
What are the steps/strategy to selecting the black/dark background and converting to a transparent or lighter color.
I am superimposing a person into a picture. I need blend/soften the edges of their hair line into the background so they look more a part of the picture. What's the best way to do this? (I'm using CS4)

I have a strange (might be small) problem in my PS (CS 5.5).. while selecting with the Select tools (Marquee) i cant see the running marquee lines any more (those dotted lines around) instead i have a solid line around the selection. How do I bring back the running line?

When moving a selected portion of an image from one canvas to another or even within the same canvas, I have a hard edge on the selection that I'm moving. How do I soften the edge of the selected area to make a smooth transition. When I move the selected area to where I want it, a hard edge gives the appearance that it has infact been moved, whereas if the edges were smooth or softer, it would have a more of a blend and not be as obvious that something has been moved.

The transition form where the hall ends and the green stuff I pasted begins. The edge is to hard or something. I don't know how to explain it but it is obvious that there can be made some progress there. How to make those edges more natural?

I am on Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 2013.I have a headshot that I can cut out of a larger photo using the freehand tool to trace the edges and then subtract the background that I want cropped out.
Now, I'm trying to figure out how I can apply some kind of transparency to the edges to soften them up a bit so they aren't so stark and will overlay nicely over my site background once the image is uploaded.
I have been having this problem for a while now that whenever I extrude or create something thats not totally smooth the edges by default are hardened. For example if I create a 12 faced cylinder it will hard edge everything including the verticle edges. Back when I first started using Maya i dont remember having to select specific edges to soften which can get very tedious and take up time.
I feel like there should be some sort of way to harden horizontal edges and soften verticle edges but I cant find the solution anywhere. Is there any way to change the default soften/harden edges?

I need to soften the outline of a girl in a photo without changing the background. I have tried the Modify Edges tool in the selections menu, but the results of the feathering command do not show up on the photo.Â

All Transform tools cause jaggy edge. I've only tried these tools and Liquify for the last month and a half.

Uninstalled, re-installed Windows, Photoshop, graphic card - Evga 560 ti - drivers (all versions). No prevail.

CS5 works flawlessly on this system. These tools also work fine on my laptop which use Radeon HD3470.
I have supposedly disabled all the "snap" features in Photoshop, however, whenever I try to make minute transforms with the skew tool it always "snaps" (often closing a huge gap) to either it's previous vector, or one of the other points.

How do I stop this before I hit my head on the desk repeatedly in frustration?

Ctrl, etc., like with the move tool, does nothing differently.
In the attached photo, I've already done some transforming and cropping to the get the top of the photo to be relatively straight.

I'm pretty sure what I need to do now is find a way to get the lower left of the photo to be pushed down and to the left to both: stop the appearance of that side of the photo jutting out more and to straighten out the white sign that says SOHO NOW OPEN so that it's flush with the top. However, I've tried all the transform tools and none of them are making that happen for me.
After I use the lasso tool I go to free transform and make my correction. But when I press ok and then deselect, it's leaving a black mark on the picture from the free transform tool. Why is this happening?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI used to use MediaStudio Pro to create picture in picture especially where the picture starts small and grows to cover the entire background video clip.
I looked for and found a video filter which I thought would allow me to do the same. However after viewing the 'help' for the filter and trying just about everything I could think of I cannot achieve what I want to do if start with a video clip and then have another video clip appear (very small) in one area of the background video and then slowly grow larger to eventually cover the background video clip.
I can make the picture in picture appear and grow larger but it covers the entire background video clip with black effectively covering it no matter what size my picture in picture is. I looked for a chroma key to cover the black out but could not find it.
or how to position a picture in a specific location within a background picture.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently started having this problem in Photoshop CS6 where using the transform or selection tools makes all the layers other than my background layer disappear so I can't see what I'm selection or transforming. This happens randomly out of nowhere. I can be using those tools all day with no problem, and then out of nowhere it starts making things invisible.
There doesn't seem to be any other programs running that would cause it (not that that should be an issue, my computer could easily run all my Adobe programs at once if I wanted it to), and the only thing that seems to fix it so far is restarting Photoshop. But that gets old really fast when I have to do it over and over again. I tried calling Adobe, but somehow they're always closed, even during their supposed hours of operation.
I am trying to take a image from one picture to move to another picture using the lasso tool I keep trying to use the lasso tool and when I'm done it automatically resizes its self to a size I don't want. How do I get it to stay the size I put it at. My goal is to fade the edges and then slide it over to another picture but the whole picture slides over instead of the lasso section.

The edges of the circle blend with the background color, but I will be using this image in a game and the background color is the alpha color. If the background color dissapears in the game, but parts of the circle have colors that blend with that background color, it will look very strange. How can I stop the image from blending it's edges (I guess what it's doing is anti-aliasing to make a smooth effect) with the background?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been asked to create a set of photos with a faded background. My boss gave me the attached image as an example. I initially thought it would be fairly easy. I could add a layer mask and a Gaussian Blur. I have successfully faded the edges, but I have only managed to do it with a color fill layer, I can't work out how to get the background transparent without it looking jagged and ugly. I need to effect to look like the attachment.
