Convert to Editable Shapes no longer appears on my right click / context menu in XDP 7.1.1.17621
Not sure when it disappeared... 7, 7.1, 7.1.1
Should it be there? Is it me? Can I get it back?
[I know I can use the Arrange Menu, or Ctrl+Shift+S but am simply used to right-clicking!]
I can no longer open the Properties Palette when I double-click on something. Sometimes, I get the Quick Properties Box, instead -- which was already turned off. I've triple checked that the QP is off, made sure no tool tips or the like are on, and I've rebooted the computer, but I can't get rid of the thing.
The main Properties Palette still opens up when I use CTRL-1, if I type "properties" at the command prompt, and if I right-click and select "Properties" from the short-cut menu. Sounds great -- except when I double-click something out of habit and can't jump into the palette and keep going. Instead I have to clear out of whatever pops up on my screen and open the PP 'manually'.
I've gone in to the CUI and dragged "Properties" in to the double-click function, but...nada.
How do I turn a bitmap into editable shapes in Xara Designer Pro X. i.e. In my case have a screenshot of an website, and I want to get Xara to intelligently turn it into editable shapes so that I can do clean experiments on changing the colours of different areas etc. I remember that there used to be a tool about 4 years ago in a previous version of Xara but I can't find it.

I have a font that I am thinking of using for a project; the font is near to what I want but still requires modification on some letters. I've tried the 'convert to editable shape' function but it has no effect. (I'm not referring to stretching or squashing or distorting the text; I need to bring up point handles.)
My question is about vector argument, I've heard a lot of times that vector is better to big drawings and also the same doubt comes to my mind ...
Many and many times We have to convert shapes to bitmap due to CPU issues when We use blends, etc, that is to say, We draw vectorial but We are limited if We push xara to the limits.
The other doubt is, what happens when we use fills, for instance the ones that come with xara, aren't they bitmaps?, will they looks as sharp as We want when we use them in large drawings?.
What happens with transparencies?, are they vector?, what about shadow tool?.
Can I convert 3D-rotated extrusions to flat shapes again?
Because, I'd like to create outlines and shadows of added and intersected extrusions. So, I think, I should try to get flat shapes from extruded objects (extrusions), shouldn't I?
How come when I click on the custom shape tool, then add say, an arrow, that arrow is not editable? I can't click on it or rotate it etc.

I know there is a "Create Shape From Selection" button on in the Editable Poly dialog. But this gives me the ORANGE lines from the control cage, not the smooth lines on the subdivided object.
I have been working on a book cover for a client and was asked to modify a capital letter in the chosen font. The letter "S" had a curly q at the top that needed to be removed. I converted the letter to an editable shape and deleted the offending nodes. Along the way I had to break the points and then reconnect. When I broke the points, Xara split the shape into 2 layers for some reason so I could not rejoin the points later. I ended up combining the layers and was able to rejoin the nodes that way.
The problem I had was that when everything was reconnected, I could only color the outline, the shape would not fill. I ended up having to export as a PNG to Photoshop, created an adjustment layer and painted it in. Everything looks great BUT I would have preferred to just reconnect the nodes and fill the letter in Xara.
I have this crest thing here that I need to cut out so there is no background to it. I have managed to get the background transparent, but when I print there is a square of incorrectly printed colour around the image. I have tried converting it to an editable shape but still get this problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have MAP3d 2014 drawings with object data attached. I also need to be able to see the data as text. In map 3d it is a straightforward exercise. I go to task pane> Data> add drawing layer..I select the layer I want data to display and I select the object properties, change the TextLabel into the required field and I have readable on the screen text.. However this text does not behave like text at all..If I edit it, it disappears or reverts back to the original text. When I open in normal CAD of course it is not readable...

A couple of things that seem to be missing in LR4. In all previous versions of LR, I could select non contiguous folders (or collections or a mix of the two) by holding down the Command key (using a Mac). That doesn't work in LR4. Also, when I create virtual copies (which I also do all the time), the copies lose the name of the original. They are simply name "copy 1."
View 5 Replies View RelatedCorel Draw 5 did this very nicely but it's obsolete and I can't load it onto this machine (HP all-in-one Pavilion desktop with Windows 8).
I am working with hand-drawn images but since I need to manipulate the outline/s with a 4 - 12 pixel tool, it would be great to just be editing nodes instead. Creating the image from scratch as a vector graphic would be a horrible large amount of work and is not feasible at this time.
Is there any way other than Corel Draw 5 to make the conversion from bitmap-type images to editable vector graphics, ie: editable nodes?
PS - I don't have $700 - $1000 to spend on software at this point but do have Photoshop Elements 11, Premiere 11 and Lightroom, plus GIMP and the usual. Where should I start?
When exporting a map to either PDF or AI (Adobe Illustrator), I inexplicably get a slight, straight, diagonal line that runs across the map.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSuppose you discover that at some point previously that you accidenetally did multiple pastings of the same thing into the same place, and suppose you go left-click then delete, then left click then delete (etc) SLOWLY, then ou can delete the offending multiple items one at a time and all is good.
HOWEVER if you try to do it too quickly it all goes wrong. It seems that the tool that was used to create the object that you are trying to delete suddenly gets selected. e.g. If it is multiple copies of the same text and you go left-click, then delete, then left-click TOO QUICKLY, then suddenly instead of being in Selector tool mode, you suddenly find yourself in Text Tool mode and find yourself deleting individual characters one at a time instead of the entire text items.
Likewise, if you find a rectangle and do left-click - delete key - left-click too quickly you suddenly find yourself in Rectangle Tool mode and the delete key no longer functions.

The problem is that we are designing some objects (call them "buttons") whose design we have not finalized how they will look yet.
i.e. The shape, size, layout of components of these buttons is still undecided, although we know that they will be in use in a large number of places (on a large number of pages).
So what I want is to have a single master copy of the object that I can edit in one place, and for those changes to ripple out across multiple places on multiple pages.
P.S. I thought Edit ==> Clone Shape would do this, but it appears to create separate, un-linked copies. In fact all it seems to do is in effect the same as Control/C and then Control/Shift/V!
I'm using Photo & Graphics Designer 7. Recently I've had the problem of the program no longer exporting PNG images I create with transparent backgrounds. They all have a box containing whatever color background I'm using at the time. I am selecting only the object I want to export.

I know I can do this with cloning the image and then create an interesting shape - but this is then fixed to that location over the image -
I want to be able to set these properties to the shape, and then move anywhere over the image
(basically like a piece of frosted glass, placed over a photo. - the glass effects what you see of the photo not just colour but also focus..., but you can move it around)
I have a group of shapes that I need to place on a larger "canvas" of a specific size. When I export as a GIF, I want the whole "canvas" except for the shapes to be transparent.
