VideoStudio :: Getting 16:9 File
Nov 6, 2010
I am capturing using a source that is a TIVO Series 3 HD box. I am capturing an HDTV channel. I have a Hauppauge 1600 capture card, and am using Win TV 7 to capture the signal. The connection between the TIVO box and the Hauppage card is an S-Video cable. The file that I capture is always in 4:3 format, even though the source is HD. The image is skewed vertically, as if a 16:9 image is being squeezed into a 4:3 display. I open the captured MPEG2 file in VideoStudio Pro X3. I have my project in VideoStudio Pro X3 set to the following:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 192 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Then I use the 'Create Video File' command and 'Same as Project Settings' thinking it will then change the video from 4:3 to 16:9 but it doesn't. The new file has the 'Attributes' of 24 bits, 720 x 480, 16:9 but the image is still 'scrunched up' vertically just like the original 4:3 file.
How to get a 16:9 MPEG file created using the setup described? Should I be connecting my TIVO to the Hauppage card differently? There's no HDMI input on the Hauppauge card, so that's not an option. There is S-Video/Compsite, ATSC / QAM, and Analog Cable TV inputs.

I have used an exceptionally good website called [URL]...... for a number of years with no problems. I have just downloaded from them a .mp3 file lasting 5 minutes but when I come to load it into my project , I get an error message saying "File format mismatch". The only difference that I see between this and all the previous files I have downloaded from them is that this one has a bitrate of 320kbps compared to the previous ones of 130-190kbps.

I have several AVCHD folders I've copied to my HD in the last year from my Panasonic HDCSD20. Now I'm ready to edit them in VSX4. Is there any advantage to using "file/import media file to library" (which makes a copy in the working folder) vs just clicking on the folder icon and adding them? I've looked at the file size on both the original clip and the imported one and they are identical. It does seem as though VS extracts the original date and time shot and uses that as the imported file name,

I have done a lot of editing with VideoStudio Pro on current system but never ran into somthing like this:
I have a 2.7G file that I pulled from my DVR (mpg). Plays well on my ThinkPad but when I try to load it into VideoStudio Pro X3 (13.6.2.69) the software stops responding (get the "not responding" message) and I have to end the process.
I updated to SP3, no luck. Uninstalled and reinstalled VideoStudio, no luck. Search Corel and various boards and found nothing about file size being an issue. Even adjusted virtual memory settings.

I'm using a freshly installed VideoStudio Pro x5, so all settings are standard.
I imported XXX.MTS files (AVCHD) from a camcorder into VSX5.
Info on the files
File format: NTSCVideo Type H. 264
29.97 fps
Audio Type: Dolby Digital
48khz , 2 ch
Bite rate 18.00Mbps
If i preview the files before putting them into the project, there is no sound, movie plays fine.
If i add them to the project and select "project" instead of clip there is sound...
If i add them to the project and select "clip" instead of project there is no sound...
I updated my VSX5 with SP1 but it didn't work...

Just got Visual Studio Pro X4. My first experience with VS. A friend gave me a number of projects she had been working on with an earlier version. When I try to open a project (.VSP file) I get an error.
File is already open.
This happens with every project I try to open.

I'm making some music videos, and I thought I'd get the best audio quality using .WAV files instead of MP3 files. Trouble is, when I load a .WAV into my audio track, all I get is a bunch of noise and loud hiss. An MP3 file works just fine. If I play the "clip" in the preview window, each file will play just fine, but the problem shows itself when I play the "project" in the preview window. Is this happening because my computer has choked on all the data, and it's too much for it to handle? Am I stuck with using the MP3 files in my projects?

I would like to convert my AVI files captured from my dV Sony camera (uses the small digital tapes) into mp4 files to save space on my drive.
I was able to render one AVI file to my hard drive but the next time it crashed and wont let me do it again, no matter what I tried. I also downloaded the latest patch.I did used the enhance mpeg rendering and seemed to work.
What video file format would give me the same video quality as the original AVI captured from my camera?Should I use mp4 or there is a better alternative since keeps crashing the program?

I'm trying to load an avi video ... which was created from an online webinar I did (the online room uses a program called - Conference Recording Service) - which creates an avi file.
I try to bring it into VSPro 4 but it tells me - "xxx file is inaccessible" followed by the message "This file cannot be added to the project due to unknown file format or not enough memory or copyright".
I can play this file in Windows Media Player ...I thought VS works with avi files?

My Nikon P100 produces videos with the extension MOV. When I run them on an older laptop that I use to drive slide shows, they run very slowly. I think that's because the file sizes are too large. Will VideoStudio allow me to resize the videos, in much the same way that PaintShop lets me resize photos? I want to know this before I buy it.

I have VS12. I downloaded the trial version of X5, mainly to see if it could read my VS12 files. It could. I used X5 to render a VS12 file that had continually crashed when I tried to rendered it with VS12. Not only did it render it successfully, but it did it about twice as fast as VS12 - great. However, that was yesterday. Today I've been trying to reload the original file into X5 again & I just get the message "File xxxx is already in use". Running X5 by double-clicking on the file, running X5 first & clicking the filename from the file menu or clicking Open from the file menu & selecting the file from the list - all give that result. The only way I have loaded the file is to run X5 & drag the file to the timeline. The file has opened, but the project is shown as untitled, even though there is a title. Also the project is shown as a single entity on the timeline, not made up of individual frames & captions. Where has my project gone? Is it still in X5? I've tried to open other projects, & they all give the same message! I can't try out my trial version I it won't load my projects!
PS I've just spent a few minutes holding the mouse pointer over various icons on the X5 screen & clicking a few to see where I got. After that, I had another go at loading the file - & it loaded successfully!! I assume when I loaded X5, it came up in some mode & I managed to get it out of it.

In VSX4, a particular VSP file is freezing but other VSP’s can be edited without problem.
It freezes during playback of the project, and individual scenes - audio and video. I have deleted individual clips - but it freezes at a different clip or at a different place entirely. I can play the first 17 minutes or so, but then it freezes. If I restart the program and play at any point after the 17 minute mark it freezes, sometimes immediately other times after a few munutes. Even scrolling after the 17 minute mark sometimes triggers it.
The message is: “Corel VS Pro has stopped working”. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
To try and resolve this I have:
Uninstalled and reinstalled VSX4 Pro
Updated to SP2
Updated QT and Direct X
System Restore
Full system scan
Project Details:
From camcorder using EasyCap
PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

I can not open any MP4 file (let alone move to a track). So, I did things I read here in these post. I installed the latest version of QuickTime and changed the file type to MOV. Was then able to open and select to the time line. Now, when I play the clip in the time line it looks good. However, when I play the project the playback is very slow. Other file types work fine including clips that I mix with the MOV clip. The MOV part is slow and the WMD part is fine. Tried converting the MP4 to other formats but the quality suffers greatly. All this conversion really takes time. Will VS ever be able to read a MP4 file like other similar routines?

I have just installed VideoStudio Pro X5 on my computer and have not been able to open any videos in it due to 'file mismatch error.mp4'.So I went online to search for fixes and came across the patches. I downloaded BOTH but only pack TWO would work for me.When trying to install pack 1 (of COURSE the most important) I get this error message:
"The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate" EVERY single time I retried it, this is all I got. Pack 2 went off without a hitch and installed perfectly.
And I know there are other posts about this and they say 'product is already updated if you get this message' but I am still having the issue.Details about where my videos I'm trying to edit came from: recorded from an AverMedia C281 Game Capture HD in full 1080 HD
Videos were recorded on to a WD Elements 2TB 2.0 external hard drive- which in turn saved them as .mp4 files.
'How' am I trying to add video?I am on the 'edit' yellow box.I am clicking on 'file', 'insert media file into library' then I select the 3 hour video (are there limits? I've also tried 20 minute videos and they don't work either) that I'm trying to edit and it then reads:
"Unable to open file M:(video number). File Format mismatch. Then [16803:1:2] in brackets? So I'm sitting here with a product that is useless to me as I can't even get it to open anything up. And I don't want to spend time converting these videos as many of you say 'it works fine for me- don't know what you're doing wrong. all you can do is convert them'.

My current project (19 minutes long) does not render (Create a video file). It stops after 27% complete and a message window pops up: "Cannot read audio 0x80004005, 18300:8000:192". My project includes voice-overs, sample sound (water flowing and airplane taking off) and some music. By taking out all voice-overs and music, the project renders. I am using VS X4 Pro.

My latest problem is file formats! I have two cameras, one of which produces .AVI video format. I have found that Corel does not "read" this format - or am I wrong? I am working from a card reader. I have succeeded in using the latter files in VS but only by converting to MP3. I don't want to part with this very handy camera so am I missing something in that perhaps I can change some setting to enable Corel to recognise .AVI files? I don't want to have to use the editing suite which came with my Traveller camera. I have found it is easy to load via Picasa - which accepts many formats - but it's when I come to insert media file to the VS library that the trouble starts - obviously because the files are .AVI.

When I try to open a vsp project in X5 using Windows 7 I am getting an error message saying, File is already in use, and a number 15055:1:1. I have been using this computer with X5 and XP professional and it works fine. I have a selection of vsp files that I use as templates, the only time I have had this message before is when I had my template vsp files write protected, which I have stopped doing. I have now installed Windows 7 on this same computer but cant open any of my previous projects. These projects were created using X5.

A friend gave me a home movie on DVD asking me to add chapters and a menu. I imported his DVD content into VideoStudio and it appeared he had 24 chapters on his disk. To me they all looked identical so I deleted all but the first one and proceeded to make 3 chapters, add titles and transitions to the start of each chapter.
Then I went to Create Disk and added the menu but when it came time to burn a DVD, it says the file is 7gb. My DVD-r and the DVD the original files came from are 4.7 gb.

I have created 2 Bluray discs with Video Studio X5 using clips from my HS700 Panasonic. The clips are high quality HD 1920x1080 AVCHD and import into VS as .mts files. I have created two discs and menus and burned them successfully and at the same time used the function that enables a file version to be stored. The discs play beautifully with menus working well on my Samsung Bluray player and TV and also in my PC drive E using WIN DVD Pro 11 (trial version).
My problem is when I try to play the VSX5 created file on C drive, with WIN DVD Pro 11, if I select the BDMV file it says "media not supported" and if I select the STREAM file it plays the files in the order that VSX5 created them, therefore playing the file 0000.m2ts first and onward to the last. In this case there were 4 AVCHD 1920x1080 h264 files rendered to video files and onto the disc and PC file with menus, therefore VSX5 created 18 .m2ts files in the stream file, 4 video files numbered 0000,0001,0002, 0003 and 14 menu files 0004, through to 0018, all of these .m2ts.
WinDVD Pro 11 plays the stream file as a Playlist in strict numerical order therefore playing the menu files last and not as a selectable thing.I guess my big questions are.1) Am I doing something incorrectly OR 2) Does WIN DVD Pro 11 ever play a Corel VSX5 created PC file as a menu selectable Bluray file like it does with a disc?I am running Windows 7-64 Professional with two 1TB hard drives, I have tried the files on either hard drive without success in playing as I expect (like a disc).
To go back a bit, I have a library of DVD VS created files and play through the Windows Media Centre, however with the Bluray ones it tells me I need to have a Bluray Player, hence my downloading the trial WINDVD Pro 11. The old DVD files had a TS file which contained the files necessary to play the video with menu, but there does not seem to be an equivalent in the Bluray folder.

I recently purchased Corel Video Studio Pro X6. So far it has worked great except for one issue. When using it to make DVD's, the file take up far more room than the actual file size is.
I've converted old VHS tapes to .mpg files and I planned on using Corel to create DVD's, with menus, for my family. I ran into the issue of the files being far too big, so after some research I discovered that .mpg files were not size efficient. I then used Corel to convert them to .mp4 files. So now, for example, a file that was 1.06GB (.mpg) is no 70.7MB (.mp4). So on disc the files are considerably smaller, with little to no video/audio loss. But, once I opened up Corel and started a new project and tried to use the new smaller files they still take up just about the same amount of space on the DVD's. On my HDD all of the converted files take up the same amount of disc space as just a few of the original files. Yet on the DVD I can still only fit 3-4 videos.

I've got a project file that I've been working on for a few weeks. I made a couple of changes to it today and now it will not play through completely. It stalls right at the same spot each time and no matter what I delete in the project (trying to remove the offending element) it still stalls. What I mean by stall is that the player stops and the play button reappears. if I press play again, it plays a few frames and stops.
I'm using VideoStudio 4.
