VideoStudio :: Editing Very Slow In X3?
Oct 21, 2010
In X2, if I waited long enough once a video was loaded into memory, I could rewind/forward/clip to any point in the video on the timeline just about instantly. In X2, if I tried to forward/rewind/clip to a point in the timeline in the video without waiting, it would give me about 1 fps when moving the current point in the timeline, and it would also play the video at the same 1 fps--until I waited a while.
In X3, the video can play pretty smoothly just about right away, but no matter how long I wait, moving backwards in the timeline gives me about 1fps, and moving forward sometimes gives as much as 8fps--but it is never smooth. Was this behavior by design? It makes video editing a total nightmare--it takes forever to find cutpoints in the video. How screaming-fast of a machine must someone have to not get 1fps when moving backwards on the timeline in X3, and is there something I can change in settings that might offer a better framerate?
Should I re-install X2 so I can move in the timeline at a decent rate, then import it into X3 for the final output, or is there a better option?

I am a user of VS X4 Pro but I have not used it for a long time until now...
When I loaded a video from my camera into the library and from there into the timeline I got a problem. When editing in clip-mode the clip appears in slow motion with a noisy sound! When running in Project-mode the clips appear OK. When rendering the result is OK but it is difficult not to work normally in clip-mode.
What can be the problem? Have I changed by mistake any parameter in preferences? I can´t remember that I have had those problems before...

I installed the latest update for Premiere Pro CC a couple of days ago and now every edit I make in my Multicam sequence takes about 10 seconds to take effect. No matter how small an edit I make. While it´s taking affect the computer just freezes.

Coreldraw X6 seems to be much much slower when editing text content.
When I work on a product brochure with a lot of text involved, CorelDraw become very low responsive when I edit the text e.g. select, move, typing, etc etc. It happens to both paragraph text and artistic text.
Btw I'm running X6 on an old XP machine.

This was originally posted under 2009 - but I have this issue in 2010!
The old post was: Block Editor Posted: Aug 1, 2008 7:01 PM
When I go into block editor, edit the block then close it out. My cursor is really jerky in model space. Especially bad when I go into a command and try to select something. The only way to get rid of the jerkiness is to close auto cad and restart it. Is there anyway to cure this?
I have 2010 and am experiencing this exact same problem. It is intermittent and will sometimes 'go away' after a few minutes. Block editing is definitely related as a cause. I use SDI = 1 predominantly and it seems to be session independent. In other words one drawing session is experiencing the problem but jumping to another concurrent session exhibits no issues.
Task manager shows off the chart 99% plus on process ACAD when it is occurring.
Palette transparency is off globally. I have installed the latest NVidia driver for my Quadro NVS 285 video card. I am running a 3GHz P4 with 4 Gigabytes of ram - Dell Precision 380 workstation. Block Editor background color is default.
Restarting AutoCAD does make it go away - for the moment - but it is soon back. Even closing all tool palettes has no effect.
This does seem to be drawing specific - 2010 seems to be sensitive to something in older drawing blocks - prototype drawings from hotel vendors for instance - most likely inherited from a third party DXF process exhibit the issue heavily - and blocks from these drawings to a lesser degree. I have to constantly purge, audit, and wblock/replace my drawings to keep them clean. My default file type is 2010 which 'seems' to work, but it still happens. Audits show constant drawing errors cropping up, and repeating an audit, shows the same errors until a wblock replace is performed.

I have the DSLR 7D and it has these wonderful 720/50p module which could offer some amazing slo-mo, if you use it. Is this possible to do with my program, or do I need a better program like Vegas from Sony?

I've copied a segment of my video that I want to have run again at the end of my clip. In the duplicate part, I want to have the audio sound slower and, even more importantly, deeper (almost sinister) to acheive the effect I'm looking for.
I've seen a VS Pro X3-produced clip with this effect but I can't figure out how to do it. I've only been able to slow the overall clip. To get the deep sound I want it would have to be slowed WAY to much.

problem with loading large numbers of images, not large images, but a lot of images in VS11. I am loading a lot of images to make my annual slide show for the HS band and I am running into a problem where the images start loading quickly (1 second each) and after about 150-200 images you start to load slower and slower as much as 70 seconds on image #300). I don't remember having this issue with VS9, which is what I used last year.
I tried loading the same thing in VS10 and it is much better on the load. There is a recognizable slow down, but nothing like VS11. Before you ask, I would be fine with doing the slide show in VS10, but running in Vista VS10 crashes on me too much to get it done.

I created a 30min video, with a lot of photos mixed with live video, transitions, music, etc. Now, when I try to reopen the file for futher editing, it appears the software needs to re-render all the thumbnails in my video track stream. As I mentioned, I have a lot of photos in there, so it's taking forever.
With the previous software I used (Pinnacle Studio), I could flush the cache and have the program rebuild (and store) all the thumbnail info for faster loads in subsequent sessions.

Up until recently I had been able to capture a VHS movie using the ADVC-110, edit the avi files and put in transitions, save to a vsp file. Next I would go to Share> Create Video File> Custom. Since this an old movie of only fair quality I would select a bitrate of 6000. I was previously able to render 3 different movies of approx. 70 minutes in lenghth to mpeg-2 in 1 1/2 hours each. Now it suddenly takes 6 to 8 hours per movie. The cpu will go like gangbusters and render the first 50% of the movie in just 20 minutes, and then slow down and take hours for the last 50%. I have Spy Sweeper and other running progs. and apps. shut off, screen saver disabled, internet connection off and D-Link not in use. I am using my "D" drive for all my files, which has nearly 1 TB, and I have plenty of available memory. what causes it to slow down, and what I might try? OS: XP; MB: ASUS P5QL-E; GC: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT; SC: Real tek High Def Audio; Processor: Intel 2 Core Duo @ 3.33 GHZ; Hard Drive: C: 300 GB, D: 1 TB; Memory: 3GB.

I'm running VSP x5 and have made a 90min film with my AVCHD 1920x1080 files. I'll be making some SD discs and HD discs. There wasn't a lot of enhancements to the footage except for several clips that needed a few filters put in. The Project Settings are MPEG Standard Definition dimensions.
When I edit my project, I always observe the Smart Proxy Queue manager, wait until everything coverts, and I get very good smooth action in editing. (probably a solution to many of the problems that needlessly occur elsewhere in the forum).
However rendering takes AGES and AGES (reached 40% after 4hrs). The box is checked "Perform Smart Render". Why is it when I've already waiting for files to be downsized when I first added the clips to the timeline....can I not take advantage of these and save time?
What else can I do to speed up render time?

Since quite some time I have been succesfully uploading FullHD (AVCHD 1920x1080 50i) movies on YT. Some weeks ago I got a strange playback problem with my last uploads: video's are played in (very smooth!) slow motion mode at some resolution settings. The same Divx video's on the contrary always playback OK In order to illustrate the YT playback speed problems I uploaded two times the same 10sec video. The first video has been rendered as a fullHD AVCHD video in VSX4 (never got problems in the past with similar video’s), the second is a fullHD DviX version of that same video (from another converter). The lower resolution settings in the AVCHD video slow down while the 720 and 1080 settings run OK [URL]

I've just been testing out the new X3 Video Studio and I was wondering if I have missed some settings somwhere.
It's running horribly slow, I was kind of expecting it to be lighting fast on my machine, which is a 8 CORE processor with 12GB ram on Windows7 Ultimate.
Is it me, or have other people experienced this slowness on their systems as well?

I am using a title that scrolls across the screen, by spelling out one letter at a time.
However, I feel the speed is a bit too fast, and I'd like to slow it down.
I try extending the length of the clip, but this doesn't seem very effective.
How can I slow down the speed of this title movement?

I have Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X6 and am having problems rendering clips in slow motion.
I have recorded at 50p in full HD. In Video Studio I have slowed the clips down to 25%, and when I do a preview in the editor, it looks fantastic. However when I render to a MP4 file it looks terrible. You can see every frame.
How do I render and get at least the same quality as I get in the preview window?
Here is the video I am talking about. [URL]...... through to about 30 seconds to see the jumping.

Using Videostudio Pro X5. Captured video using GoPro at 240fps. Video imports fine. I want to edit the video in slow motion. I'm using the "speed/time lapse" option - I set the speed at "25%".
However the outcome is that the video is choppy as if it's throwing away frames. At this setting I should be getting decent smooth frame rates but this is not the case. I'm looking to end up with at least 25-30 fps.

I installed X4 on a new pc with the following hw: Gigabyte MB with I5 2400 with 8Gb ram and Gforce 430GT video adatpter + 1Gb ram on it, 160GB sata system disk + 1TB data disk. Win7 64bit is runing in English. The problem is as follow: After the program is up I put 2 sample shots and then push the transition bottom. It take a long time till I get the my favorite to show up, then when try to select let say the F/X sub list again take a long time till it show up. In XP environment it work without delay. I tried it also on a 32bit win 7 with same results. So I assume that it is something related to win 7.

One thing that is slowing me down is that all my photos and videos are on a Western DIgital NAS box that I can access with fairly decent performance. I want to leave them there as I have them all organised how I want them. I have a 64-bit Windows 7 laptop with 4GB RAM and Intel Core i5 processor and access the NAS box via a Wireless-N connection on the laptop via a Netgear Wireless-N router.
When I add a video or photo I get a lag (more notably the videos) but worse is selecting a video after importing it into a library. It can take a good 10-30 seconds before I can continue using VideoStudio. Is there anyway I can reduce this lag selecting videos or is my only option to copy videos to my laptop?

Given my problem with jerky video in VS4 (see this thread), I decided to give Smart Proxy another try and switched it on. To my dismay, not only does it take ages to render the proxy videos, but the computer seems to be rather underused during rendering.
VS4 took two hours to create the proxy of a 20-25 minutes 1080p file, 4GB in size. During this time, according to Task Manager, only four of my eight CPU cores are significantly busy (though still below 50%), and disk I/O is in the area of 6-700kB/s for either direction. I took care to put the proxy directory on a third disk - away from the operating system and the source videos. 25% of the 8GB memory is used.Would the smart proxy rendering process make more efficient use of the available resources, it wouldn't take half the time.
VS4 configuration
VS4 service pack 2, version 14.2.0.23
Hardware acceleration is set for both editing and file creation
The video material is 1080p, 59.940 frames/sec, variable bit rate (max 26000kbps) and comes from my Panasonic camcorder. I used the tool that came with the camcorder, HD Writer AE, to copy the files to the hard disk. Audio is Dolby, 48000Hz, 256kpbs (I have no problems with audio).
Project properties:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

I have VS 12 installed on Windows 7 computer. It worked so far fine, but yesterday evening I wanted to upload my mpg files from the hard disk to the library. And guess, the system is very slow, it took almost 20 minutes to upload about 10 mgp files, after each file nothing happened for almost 2-3 minutes. Each clip is about 10-20 sec long. The files are stored on an external hard disk (Buffalo 500G) which is connected via USB 2 interface. It did not do that before, it was much quicker. Could it be the recent Windows updates?

My VS12 on Windows 7/64 machine with 4G RAM has slowed down dramatically when I have lots of clips in the libraries. I have several libraries based on themes, each with about 10-20 clips of 10-20sec duration (PAL MPEG2 clips, no HD). Loading into the libraries from the external USB2 hard drive is extremely slow. With each clip to load VS12 gets stuck for a while and until all clips are loaded it takes a long time) And when you want to move the scroll bar in the library it does not move, you have to click several times and the mouse just shows the blue ring for a long time and you get Windows to react that VS12 does not respond. When I try to enter a new library it will only show after I click "Close" several times and with a long wait.
When I delete most of the libraries VS12 runs a bit quicker.
All other programs (for instance Firefox and mail) run well and with normal speed (normally I have them closed when using VS12). So it clearly seems to be in VS12. I used VS12 the last time in June to edit a video and at that time it worked well, with normal user friendly speed. Since then I only updated all Windows, Adobe, Quicktime and other important program updates, but nothing else. Also Direct X is updated to the latest version Microsoft issued in June 2010.
I experience the same situation both on my Windows 7 and Windows XP machine (XP having less process power and less RAM, only 2G, but worked perfectly before). Somehow the impression is that the latest Microsoft NET Framework patch could have caused this, but I am not sure and I would not like to deinstall this patch because of the security risks.

I experimented with slow motion of a water fall video clip from Letchworth State Park of New York where we visited recently. The original clip is 1080p24fps. I used virtualdub, avisynth, mvtools method to change the video clip from 24fps to 96fps, and 144fps. This method smoothly builds additional frames between each of the 24fps appropriately and the method works great to create smooth slow motion that plays in VLC slowing the 96 and 144 clips fluidly slow. Inserting the three clips into VS works fine and play normally. Selecting the inserted 96fps clip, and slowing it by 25% plays jerky, and renders as 1080p24fps the same way. Same situation with the 144fps clip. I played with all the parameters: frame and % and I could not make VS X4 play the clips smoothly. I am hoping I don't understand how to use this new Time lapse/Speed feature. BTW, I also own Premiere Pro, and it does the slow down of these clips perfectly. You can see the three clips in VIMEO done with Premiere Pro: [URL]
EDIT: I just tried Microsoft Movie Maker that comes free from Microsoft, and it does the slow down correctly. I am thinking this is a problem with VS X4
