Revit :: How To Rotate Dimension Vertically

View 3 RepliesI've been using Inkscape for a long time and decided to switch to Illustrator CS6 now for better compatibility with PDF standards. While most things are very similar in both programs, one thing enormously bugs me in Illustrator each time I use it. In Inkscape, you could hold down your middle mouse button (mouse wheel) and move the mouse to simultaneously navigate on both the horizontal and vertical viewport axis. In other words, holding down the middle mouse button and moving the mouse would pan the view in both directions. Is there any chance (program setting, plug-in) of getting a similar behavior in Illustrator (doesn't have middle mouse button, just some easy way to navigate in all directions)? I know that you can rotate the mouse wheel to pan the view vertically and holding CTRL while using the mouse wheel pans it horizontally, but that's just cumbersome and totally counter-intuitive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an object, a non-symmetrical anchor clip, that has four configurations: Left Top, Right Top, Left Bottom, Right Bottom. In the project, I can rotate the clip from the project's Top view, but when I try to rotate it from the Front, I get the message "Can't rotate element into this position." In the family (see attached), I have a Flip Control in place to flip the element right-to-left, but I can't seem to add a top-to-bottom control in an elevation view. To get the project out the door, I created a top and bottom version of the same object, but this seems redundant and makes my scheduling more difficult.
How I can either add another flip control to the family to easily flip the clip (preferably) or rotate the object in the project so that it is upside down?
I'm trying to Array a typical floor for a high rise that I've made a group, but I can't array curtain walls vertically. It's too many floors to do one by one and if I make changes to one floor I'd like them all to change.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm making this diagram of the load condition acting on tunnels to explain a Japanese set of equations that are used for the structural analysis for tunnels:
load condition for EEM.jpg
But, there is one problem I have. I'm trying to set up the text for the dimension between the water table and the tunnel "Ha" to look horizontal.
However, if I click on the properties box and write 90 in the rotation box right next to where it says "text rotation," the dimension text does not rotate 90 degrees; if instead I try to rotate it 180° then it only rotates 90° (and in the opposite direction) instead of 180°. It doesn't matter how many degrees I choose, it won't rotate my dimension "Ha" to desired angle to make it look horizontal.
OK I know it's hard to explain my problem with just writing, so I've posted a few pictures:
In this one, the dimension is at 0°; I've only opened the properties box to attempt and rotate it: no rotation.jpg
Now I write 90 in properties box but the dimension text does not rotate at all; it remains at 0 as it is shown in the following image: 90 & no rotation.jpg
Next I try to rotate 180, just to see what happens; and it does rotate (only 90 degrees!): 180 rotates 90.jpg
I finally try to rotate the text 270 just to see if it rotates to desired angle and it does rotate (180 degrees from original position). As shown below:
270 last try.jpg
It doesn't matter how many degrees I choose, I cannot make it look horizontal.
How can I set up my dimension text "Ha" to look horizontal?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to rotate the entire model to align with the grid of another building. I need to do that in order to export to Navisworks easily without any adjustment.
After I select the entire model in 3d view, and going back to the plan view, the rotate tool is ghosted. What's the reason of it? See attached file.
I've attached a simple RVT file with a family inserted and the front view active. I need to rotate the family 90 degrees but Revit reports the following error:
"Can't draw because Work Plane is at a very sharp angle in this view. Go to another view or redefine the Work Plane."
Can I rotate the symbol after I placed it on legend? It seems not work the way. Is it a way or I miss something?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing which crashes out of Revit 2013 SP2 as soon as I want to Rotate to True North. In fact if I use any tool under the Manage -> Location area.
I had a closer look at the drawing and I cant find the Survey and Project Base points.I assume this is related.
I turned on their visibility in Visual Graphics. I tried turning them on by using the Reveal Hidden Objects. Typed ZA and I then selected all the info ( Crop View off ) and looked at the filter. No Survey or Base Points. I also tried setting the View Range very large but I still cannot see these Points.
I know these points have been hard coded into the RVT files and I tried deleting them from another drawing as a test but couldn't.
Is there any way I can find them quickly? or getting them back?
I have cleaned up the drawing and I can upload the drawing (27MB )?
Is it possible to rotate a viewport to an angle other than 90 degrees. I am trying to rotate a viewport 11 degrees counter clockwise. I cannot rotate the model.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with elevation tags in project north vs. true north. Please see attachment for details.
The tag will rotate the text per the views settings (project north vs. true north).
So it will display correctly in one view but not the other.
I need to constrain a handle to a butterfly valve and add a parameter for rotating the handle angle. I can't achieve this as when I constrain the handle to the valve the handle will not rotate without breaking the positional constraints.
I've tried looking at the door swing posts but they don't use circular objects and I can't get them to work for my valve.
Some time ago, I used Adobe Reader (the basic one) to view and rotate a 3D model from Autocad. Yes, I know that I can export a Revit model into a DWFX and view it in Design Review, but that requires a ferr Design Review download. Some clients don't have administrator rights, are too lazy, don't have the computer savy to install, etc..., so a PDF 3D model would be nice.
---Is this possible with Revit?
---Is this possible with Autocad?
I have Adobe X Pro where I can enable this if Revit and CAD have the ability to print a 3D PDF.
I can place a solar panel on the surface of the roof (flush with roof surface), but cannot tilt it up. No matter what I try, an error message comes up saying "can't rotate element into this position".Have tried creating new panel, renaming it, etc. The panel seems to have a constraint of some sort that I cannot override.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a light fixture with a head that can rotate in two axis so that the light can aim up or down and left or right.
I have been unable to create a light fixture that can rotate up and down as shown in the Revit help files.
Here is a resume of my two attempts at creating this and the reasons why they failed:
Embedded family solution: The embedded family will not rotate vertically even as a face based fixture hosted on a line reference. If you rotate the line reference in the horizontal axis, the hosted embedded fixture ignores the rotation and does not follow.
Unique family solution: The light source will not move even if it is locked to a reference line, it evokes an error.
I made this custom section head but the text doesn't rotate and follow the head location.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wandering while doing a project of some construction elements if there is any way in Revit that I can change the numerical value of an dimension not with the text but with different value ? and at the same time I don't want Revit to rescale my elements. Something like in AutoCAD that I can type in any number I want and Revit won't rescale i or change the distance between them.
I know that I could simply use AutoCAD instead of Revit but I find it easier in general and I really want to learn it since I'm a student.
I'm designing a piece of furniture in Rhino using Grasshopper. I would like to create my measured drawings of this piece in Revit (as a way of learning the software). I have linked the 5 components of the piece to my Revit project file (as SAT files but I could export them as something else if that would work). All I want to do is create a single sheet showing 1 plan view, 2 elevations, 1 section and an exploded axon. However, I cannot seem to dimension the components. I need overall dimensions as well as the size of radii at curved corners in elevation and filleted corners in plan, and also thickness of the material used.
Is there something I need to do to get the dimensions to 'see' this set of objects?
I'm using BIMLink to adjust parameters in a model... If a dimension ends up being zero, is there a way for me to have conditional formatting to turn off visibility of a dimension with a zero value?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to dimension between the face of a wall and non parallel wall opposite it. The non parallel wall turns a 90 degree corner, and it is at this corner that I want to measure perpendicular to my first wall.
1. Is there a way to dimension between non-parallel walls? When you place the dimension you click on the wall at the location you want to dimension, so I don't see why Revit can't place the dimension at that point. That dimension would be particular to that one point along the non-parallel wall.
2. I got around this by placing a reference plane and dimensioning to that, but I'd rather not do this because then if I hide the reference plane, my dimension disappears.
Is there another work around or am I missing a tool I don't know about?
I'm using a couple of masked regions to form symbol linework (so that it obscures background and shadows) in section.
In my screen family, I have a masked region that in theory could end up having a 0mm length - that obviously throws out errors.
The following screen grab shows the regions (at screen soffits) that are set to lock to the frame face and external wall face. Trouble is I have an instance parameter to allow the screen to fill the whole wall thickness (which also then toggles on architraves). This results in the 0mm. I have therefore done a slight 2mm overlap to avoid the issue, but this leaves a residual ovelap in the linework that looks ugly.
Setting the masked region to simply not display doesn't avoid the problem, Revit still 'sees' the errant 0mm.
Is there a way of having this masked region working in both options (ie when needed - locked to ref planes) and then not producing the error when the frame and wall are coplanar ?

It is only possible to do this with linear dimensions but I have a building that isn't straigth and there I have this problem with linear dimensions that are not parallel with the wall.
When I add a wall or door the reference dimensions default to the center of the wall or door, etc. Is there any way to have these reference dimensions default to the structural face of a wall instead of continually dragging with everything I draw?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way for a label (detail number/sheet number) to rotate with a section tag rather than remaining horizontal?
Is there a way for the same label to flip along the main horizontal reference plane of a section tag?
We do not use the traditional circle head and when the head needs to rotate or flip the 'pointer' lands on top of the label.
I think I have exhausted all combinations of checked/unchecked boxes for 'Keep readable' and such.
