View 3 RepliesI have been searching around all morning for a way to create a symbol legend in C3D 2012. Is there a way to create a legend of point sysmbols being used with in a dwg? I could do this manually but that could take a while if I have lots of sysmbols.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to tag a legend component? I'm trying to draw a "door types" drawing which shows the elevation of each type of door and I want to be able to place a title under each door that displays the door type mark. This is a very standard type of drawing that architects draw for almost every project and..after all...what could be more basic to a legend component then to be able to label it?
Now I use text to label each type of door...but if someone changes the door type mark and fails to update the legend also....I get a very un-Revit-like mis-coordination with my door schedule!
I would like to add a Master Keynote Legend on a drawing that shows my entire keynote list regardless of whether or not it is used in the project. I have a keynote legend filtered per sheet but I also want another sheet that shows the full keynote list even if I haven't placed all of them in a view. Is this possible?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to print a Keynote Legend directly to a network printer specifically because I wish to reference the legend whilst working at another PC to edit some specification notes which refer to the project I am working on. However, whilst the process (in Revit) seems straight forward "R"> Print> Print> Print Dialog>OK, having set the print properties etc, when I go to 'Print Range'> Selected Views/Sheets> Select> View/Sheet Set Dialog> <in-session> the two other Legends are listed but not the Keynote Legend! See below, whilst the 'Keynote Legend Can be clearly seen in the Project Browser and is the open view.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've created an area plan of my existing building and coloured the areas using a Legend based on the area name.
I now want to do the same on the 'Proposed' Area plan, showing the new areas in the general plan ignoring the existing walls, but when I colour the areas the walls show through the solid colours, is there any way I can get the areas to cover up the walls on this plan - something line draw order.
I know you can select the area, and change the Colour Scheme Location to foreground or background - but the walls always show through...
I was able to bring in custom curtain wall panels as legend components-- however, when I set the host length, the height is automatically the same. Is there a way to insert a curtain wall panel into a legend that will have a rectangular shape (in my case, taller than it is wide)?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a Wall Types Legend using the Legend function in 2011. I did the first wall type just fine, placed it in section, tagged the material, etc. Now when I go to place another wall in a section view, it tells me the component is not visible in selected view. They are both new construction phase, stacked walls.

View 7 Replies View Relatedhow other people approach Revit (the joys of working as the solo Revit pioneer in the practice)I am in the middle of putting together various families - and have been experimenting with symbol lines for the detailing at reveals / heads etc.
For the moment I had simply used masked regions to create the joinery of frames, beads, architraves etc. which works fine, apart from not being able to use any fills at family level - leaving it to call-out drafting to add the detail in the project.
I tried the alternate of using Detail Components within the family (a simple rectangular joinery section) with shared parameters so that it can be driven by the host family - which allows drafting fills to be used.
It looks better and will save time placing fills later on to call-out details.
But - is there any impact on performance in doing this (every section now shows the fill when set at 'Fine') - is this a standard approach, or am I better leaving the symbol linework as hatch-free in the family itself - and leaving it all for addition in individual call-outs ?
There should be a way to get the Truetype font symbols into Revit. Right now
I open Word and click on Insert>Symbol and place symbol in Word doc,
highlight it and c to copy to windows clipboard and then switch to
Revit and start the text command and v to paste it in the text field.
I downloaded a pocket door from Revitcity.com and noticed that whoever created this family had one of the "controls" that flips the family on the elevations. When I am in elevation view my controls are grayed out. Just wondering how to place a flip symbol on the elevations?! I would love to be able to switch the swing of a window or door on the elevations!!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was trying to rotate the entire model to align with the grid of another building. I need to do that in order to export to Navisworks easily without any adjustment.
After I select the entire model in 3d view, and going back to the plan view, the rotate tool is ghosted. What's the reason of it? See attached file.
I've attached a simple RVT file with a family inserted and the front view active. I need to rotate the family 90 degrees but Revit reports the following error:
"Can't draw because Work Plane is at a very sharp angle in this view. Go to another view or redefine the Work Plane."
Is there any way to rotate a dimension vertically?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing which crashes out of Revit 2013 SP2 as soon as I want to Rotate to True North. In fact if I use any tool under the Manage -> Location area.
I had a closer look at the drawing and I cant find the Survey and Project Base points.I assume this is related.
I turned on their visibility in Visual Graphics. I tried turning them on by using the Reveal Hidden Objects. Typed ZA and I then selected all the info ( Crop View off ) and looked at the filter. No Survey or Base Points. I also tried setting the View Range very large but I still cannot see these Points.
I know these points have been hard coded into the RVT files and I tried deleting them from another drawing as a test but couldn't.
Is there any way I can find them quickly? or getting them back?
I have cleaned up the drawing and I can upload the drawing (27MB )?
With the new(ish) Revit elevation markers, the help files show how to set up an elevation marker that has a horizontal line through it, with detail number above the line, sheet number below it. That works well for orthogonal elevations, but when the elevation is at an angle the central line rotates. How do we stop this - I want the central line to stay horizontal like it does in East, North, South & West elevations (likewise the label locations)?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an annotation family with about ten different types built into it. When I import this into a project, the Arrowhead option (in the Type Properties) of each type is set to 'none'. I do not see anywhere in the family editor to set that value to 20 Degrees Filled. Is there a way to accomplish this, or must I set the arrowhead values each time I load a tag (which seems absurd and redundant).

The tag will rotate the text per the views settings (project north vs. true north).
So it will display correctly in one view but not the other.
I need to constrain a handle to a butterfly valve and add a parameter for rotating the handle angle. I can't achieve this as when I constrain the handle to the valve the handle will not rotate without breaking the positional constraints.
I've tried looking at the door swing posts but they don't use circular objects and I can't get them to work for my valve.
Some time ago, I used Adobe Reader (the basic one) to view and rotate a 3D model from Autocad. Yes, I know that I can export a Revit model into a DWFX and view it in Design Review, but that requires a ferr Design Review download. Some clients don't have administrator rights, are too lazy, don't have the computer savy to install, etc..., so a PDF 3D model would be nice.
---Is this possible with Revit?
---Is this possible with Autocad?
I have Adobe X Pro where I can enable this if Revit and CAD have the ability to print a 3D PDF.
What governs the location/distance from the object of the "object move symbol" when an item is selected? See attached image. I have selected the blue view reference text but the four way arrow/move symbol is way below it. This isn't using the move command. The arrows can be hard to find in a crowded sheet if it's very far from the item selected.
For reference I have added an image showing the location of the object move symbol for a text item. It's in the upper left corner of the text outline.
Regarding a building footprint that is long from south to north and then about 2/3s (two thirds) of the length the footprints turns 45 degrees to the left (making this angle the 135 degree angle of AutoCAD), then I want to create a long Building Section parallel to the building footprint with the bottom 2/3 of the section from south to north and then the last 1/3 of that building section turned 45 degrees to agree with the 1/3 angle of that part of the building.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a light fixture with a head that can rotate in two axis so that the light can aim up or down and left or right.
I have been unable to create a light fixture that can rotate up and down as shown in the Revit help files.
Here is a resume of my two attempts at creating this and the reasons why they failed:
Embedded family solution: The embedded family will not rotate vertically even as a face based fixture hosted on a line reference. If you rotate the line reference in the horizontal axis, the hosted embedded fixture ignores the rotation and does not follow.
Unique family solution: The light source will not move even if it is locked to a reference line, it evokes an error.
I made this custom section head but the text doesn't rotate and follow the head location.
