Revit :: How To Create Custom Fascia
Aug 3, 2011Is there a way to create a custom fascia in Revit Architecture 2012? I am trying to create a 3/4" thick metal panel on 3-5/8" metal stud that is 2'-6" tall.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an office building designed in Revit and i want to put a Fascia around the top- it just will not work for me!the same to the roof- i want a flat roof, so i did a roof by extrusion and it asks me for workplanes etc?then it tells me this:Extrusion roof sketch must be open. The roof's thickness and material composition are defined in its type.

Is there any way to create a custom detail line which will be a dashed line (similar to Hidden) as well as containing arrows every "X" feet or inches. i am attaching an image that is what i would like to create so i don't draw from scratch.
I would like for it to function as a line, spline, shape, whatever the needs may be.
I'm trying to create a custom floor tile but having issues doing it. 1st I create a generic 12' create floor, then use that floor to create a subfloor to try to create a tiled floor that is offset 1/4" from the initial floor. I select the floor, click edit material, select ceramic tile,.. get to the graphics property, select surface pattern and select 12" tile, click done, then OK but ... nothing happens.
I would also like to customize a pattern. I would like to create a patter that uses a 12"X12" tile with (2) 5 7/8"X5 7/8" tiles.
I tried to use the *.PAT technique but finding it difficult to do what I want so I found the hatch22 but still find that rather difficult.
Is it possible to create a custom Cladding Panel in Revit Architecture, whereby the panel shows elements of both solid extrusion and void extrusions?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a custom curtain wall which will contain vertical strapping for the vertical mullions and horizontal wood boards. I created the two profiles and am able to create the curtain wall type control spacing etc...This looks great in elevation and plan, but when I cut a section detail the vertical strapping is cut at every horizontal mullion.
My question in short! If I want to create the look of continuous horizontal boards how can I prevent the vertical mullions from being cut? I'd rather not offset them apart so I can use this model element in details. See the section detail view attached.
My ultimate goal is to have a virtual human model that I can re-size parametrically to reflect real-world measurements. I've used MAX to make architectural models and scenes so I know how to manipulate basic shapes in MAX.
how to make some sort of basic-custom geometric shape and control that shape parametrically, like the built-in "Box", "Sphere" and "Cylinder" objects.
I'm trying to figure out how to create an iLogic rule that would create a Custom iProperties and put in what version of Inventor the file was last updated with.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working with another company and we need to exchange Revit data. The issue is that my boss wants to secure our data set so the other company cannot "steal" the user families and 3d geometry created by us. It is my understanding that all I need to do is place the geometry I want to protect in a work group that is not editable.
Is it really that simple? Are there any "back doors" I need to worry about?

For section details we use a wall asembly tag that wraps the thickness of the wall, and its set up so we pull the arrows to match the width of the assembly. (see attatchment)
Im struggling to find a way to make this work in Revit as well, either by automatically adjusting to the width of the assembly we are tagging, or even by just pulling the arrows like we did in autocad.
I am making a detail library for the company. When I make my own detail components my element keynote doesn't staywith the component even though I have done new entries to the keynote text and updating everything with the new path gone into the materials and assigned the keynote and the main library file uses the new path to the keynotes. Yet everytime I bring in something new that I have created. I have to resassign the keynote. But if I bring in one of revits detail components, the keynote is right there.

Having now worked out a method of adding custom labels to sheets via a shared parameter file I want to know if there is an easier way of making these parameters fully functional in any project without having to set project parameters in the file.
The method is (assuming starting with New > Family > Titleblock or some sort of Sheet family ):
Create shared param .txt file (Manage>Shared Params>Create) - then browse for that new file to load (within Edit family sheets)Group>New then Params>new (make sure param names are unique and distinct from system parms for text labels) - set Type to TextThen addtext label (add param at bottom LHS > Select > Edit > Browse to open shared param file) then add your custom param to Label Params table. When the sheet is loaded into a project the custom labels will not be editable.
This is the annoying bit having to set up proect params in each project:Manage > Proj Params > Add > Shared Param > Select > Edit > Browse to shared param file > select each custom param in term > OK >Group Param = Title Text and set Category to Sheets. The custom parameter will now be editable (each shows as ? and not been able to find a way of showing a default label text.
Is it really necessary to do this (step 5) with every project file or is there a way of loading a custom sheet and setting project parameters automatically?
Also is there any way of adding (or editing) params to the System Family for drawing sheets. An example is scale where the sys param updates to the first loaded view scale, then if a different scale vies is loaded, changes to "As indicated". I prefer to quote the main scale. Additionally the System file date param is the current date. My preference is set the date to first issue and then list revision dates separately (which is a common company standard in the UK).
I wanted to know about the effects of adding a lot of custom images to the Project Material Library and assigning these materials to objects in the project. Does this bring the entire image file, and therefore it's size, into the Revit project file. Can this create a file size and performance issue when fully utilizing many custom material images? I know that Renderings themselves within the project will add to the file but what about assignments.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have just made the switch to Revit 2013 and the first order of business is creating a template. I, as is my entire office, is learning as we go. I have followed the No Experience Necessary Revit book which was fantastic.
Now, at the beginning of creating my template I am stuck.
I edited the elevation marker and saved a new copy into my standards / prototype folder on my server. I customized it to look just like our CAD elevation marker, great...
I have the family loaded in the template.
Now when someone clicks on the elevation marker in the ribbon how do I get it to load mine instead of the default Revit one? Otherwise, I know I am going to find inconsistencies on our drawings as staff goes to that button.
I have a problem wrapping a wall around a decustomised angled sill.
1. The Brick layer should wrap around the concrete core
2. The plaster should cover the whole wall and not stop at the sill
I finally installed Revit 2012. The first order of business was customizing the QAT to include everything I regularly use, and appear below the ribbon.
However, everytime I close/reopen the program, it resets and loses everything. It was not an issue in 2011.
I'm inquiring whether or not it is possible for Revit ceilings to be customized by the input of a user regarding the shapes and sizes without using a .pat file. Almost like a parametric object with predefined limitations. For example: a rectangular ceiling tile 'x' can be from 6 inches to 10 feet and side 'y' can be from 6 inches to 6 feet. So someone can select the ceiling type and actually input what size 'x' and 'y' they'd like while staying within those limitations.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am semi-new to Revit and am trying to make a go of it. I am trying to make a window, that looks like my AutoCAD window. So I open the Window Family.rft to start creating. I can adjust my wall thickness to match my brick wall, I can set the frame to the void that is already there.....my problem comes when I want to put on the brick mould. This overhangs the window frame and thus is outside the pre-ordained void. When I try to make a void extrusion to cut back the outside face of the wall and allow the brick mould to show, it will not work - only the originally supplied void (that comes with the template) works.
Revit will not allow me to "Cut Geometry" saying "A Family cannot have an opening and cut in the same host". If I set the brick mould inside the supplied opening, then the inside face will have a gap between the drywall and the window frame.
I am wondering if there's a way to keep horizontal mullions from being cut off square with the main vertical profile. For example, if I had a custom shaped cap, like a tapered shape, or a T shape, could the horizontal mullions cope to fit it somehow?
