Revit :: Unable To Place Components In Linked Files?

I am having difficulty placing components in my Revit Architecture 2012 model. They are wall hosted (outlets) & floor hosted (floor boxes) components. I have taken the MEP, Base Building, Interiors, and Structural models and linked them into my new file. I have linked them in as overlay. Should I have changed the reference type to attachment?
When I go to place my components I recieve the following notifications from Revit and am unable to click any walls or floors: "Click on Wall to place Instance" (outlets) "Click on Floor to place Instance" (floor boxes). How do I set up these linked files so I can place my families?

We have multiple linked Revit files from consultants in the same hospital Revit model. How can we turn off all grids and levels in all of the linked files globally. We want to avoid having to do it individually for each view & each linked file.
This project is currently in Revit 2011. If not 2011 is it possible in 2012?

I have several architectural models linked into my central file on a project. For this project, there is an addition to the building that is a design option. When I look at the linked files, though, I can only see the existing construction. I also know how to copy/monitor levels, but I want to view the architect's room elevations in my model. How can I copy the architect's design options and specific views into my model?

Quick question, do shaft openings work across linked files? I have an elevator file I have linked into the main file. It has a shaft opening but doen't appear to be cutting holes in the floors inside the main file.

when copying a linked model in the host file to multiple levels, why the detail lines are showing in my level from the other levels?

I am trying to control the visibility or visual style of the model but through the linked arch file. Everything is wireframe or simple black and white lines and I can see all my devices and equipment for the entire length of the building when I only want to see the devices in the room or where the camera is. It seems when I switch to hidden only my devices change no the linked arch model nor do any of my devices on the other side of the wall go away. I am sure for some the answer is simple but it is escaping me entirely. where I can better control the visual styles in my views of not just my own stuff but the other disciplines as well. Do I have to do anything to the linked files? Going through the Visibility Graphics Links tab doesnt seem to work either.

I cannot place Photoshop pdf files into InDesign CS5 after updating to LION. I get the error message "Failed to open PDF file." I've tried to save as in Acrobrat and then place, get the same message. I've opened the file in Photoshop to re save and get an error message. I can't change our workflow for just me because I'm the only one having this issue.

I was just wondering how to place a component into an assembly using ilogic? If this is possible, is there also an option to choose if iMates will be generated?
I would ideally like to place a list of components into an assembly, the list with probably exist in excel, then have iMates set to 'Automatically generate iMates on place' so that my assembly assembles automatically.

i have downloaded revit archi 2009 and all four training files. but i am unable to unzip them as it says its already exists and cannot replace them. i think by default there are two folders in RAC 2009- common and metric- and i have saved the zip files on RAC 2009 folder. how do i get to them to unzip as i am missing express workshop training files when i started to do the tutorials. i have files upto worksets but nothing after that.

I need to modify a curtain wall mullion profile and a plumbing fixture for a model created by another firm. I see the family (e.g Rectangular Mullion) on the project browser window, but I cannot locate the actual rfa file.
For the the Plumbing fixture, I can click on the fixture, and select "edit family", but it saves a new family instead of telling me where the orginal rfa is located.
Obviously, since the model is from another firm, the rfa file is not located on the server where our firm typically stores family files. It's not on the C:// Program Data/ Autodesk/ RAC2011/ Imperial Library...

I have some assemblies with standard components inserted from Content Center which I have published.
After some changes I do on some of them within CC, I can't refresh those that are already placed in assemblies. The window that displays the components out-of-date won't appear. Only the message precedes the appearance of this windows is shown and that's it, nothing happens.
For new Assembly I don't have this problem.

I'm having trouble inserting a bath in particular from the components tab. I go to components and I only have 3 items in the drop down list; termination board, construction trailer and metal support. How can I add a bath to the components list? The bath doesn’t work for all those families. I’ve added a bath to my project browser screen and dragged it in from there but I would like it to be in the components drop down lists. How do I do this? I’m using revit 2013. may be a very simple solution but it has had me stuck for some time

Is it possible to make the graphic represention of a component in a schedule (make a legend component representation a parameter) or use legends dynamically. I would like to schedule all the casework with quantities of each component. But the current schedule has a graphic representation next to the quantities but it is not in revit and the quanties are determined manually by counting them. I know there is a add on you can purchase to create dynamic legends but is there a way to do this directly in Revit?

Is there any way to tag a legend component? I'm trying to draw a "door types" drawing which shows the elevation of each type of door and I want to be able to place a title under each door that displays the door type mark. This is a very standard type of drawing that architects draw for almost every project and..after all...what could be more basic to a legend component then to be able to label it?
Now I use text to label each type of door...but if someone changes the door type mark and fails to update the legend also....I get a very un-Revit-like mis-coordination with my door schedule!

I am having trouble with the linework reading properly. I link a CAD dwg. to my revit model and once its in my model the linework doesnt read as it does in autocad. I have dashed or hidden lines in my CAD plan and once I link it in revit they show up as solid. I am thinking it has something to do with the LTscale in autocad?

Having issue with linked DWG which disappears arbitrarily? It is still linked and the visibility of Imported categories is set to ON, but DWG is not visible in a view. When we were linking it we set Current view only (so we can not see this DWG in other view than in the particular one).The solution is to remove DWG and link it again..What may cause it is that we copied the DWG into all levels because it contains floorplans of all levels. In every level we moved the DWG into correct position and it is working for a while. We did not find a moment when it disappears .

I'm having a real issue with Revit that I can't get my head around or find documentation on.
I have a model setup and linked a DWG file. The DWG is a topo survey drawn in real co-ordinates. The DWG is linked center to center then then I moved and rotated it to suit the orientation of my new building in Project North. See image 01.
I've then aquaired the co-ordinates from the DWG.
I've change to True North and rotated the view. See image 02
All seems to be OK. If I detach and re-attach this DWG using the shared co-ordinated it ends up in the correct place so I've started work on my model.
However, I've noticed that when I close and re-open my model or force ther DWG to reload it shifts position and rotates so I have to detach and reattach. See image 03

My main user folder on the iMac is set to be shared (read/write, including all enclosed files) with my MacBook Pro. The job is a series of one-page InDesign files (they are newspaper advertisements). The IDD files contain a series of Illustrator files with linked PSD files.The idea is that we can both work on the .idd and .ai files in the same folder at the same time.
It's all working fine EXCEPT that whenever an .ai file is opened on the MacBook, Illustrator doesn't know where the linked PSD files are. We can update the link, but when the .ai file is then opened on the iMac and saved, the same thing happens the next time it is opened on the Macbook.
I don't want to embed the PSD files into the .ai files as sometimes I have to modify them and they can be linked to up to 20 .ai files.

I am making a detail library for the company. When I make my own detail components my element keynote doesn't staywith the component even though I have done new entries to the keynote text and updating everything with the new path gone into the materials and assigned the keynote and the main library file uses the new path to the keynotes. Yet everytime I bring in something new that I have created. I have to resassign the keynote. But if I bring in one of revits detail components, the keynote is right there.

How do I prevent the components beyond the non-transparent walls and roof from showing through. I have double and triple checked the the transparency setting for the walls and roof in 'Override Graphics in View' and they are both set at '0'. Note these specifics:
Walls: Only the window glass shows through.Concrete Roof: Everything shows through as if transparency is set at 50%.

I have a floor joist/subfloor/finish floor system where the joists are hung from the sill inside the foundation wall, this means that the joists stop at the wall but the subfloor will continue over the sill plate and the finish floor will stop at the inside edge of the bottom wall plate. As near as I can figure, in order to get this to show correctly in section I really need to create the complete floor assembly by stacking 3 separate floor sub-assemblies (framing, sub-floor, finish floor) is this correct? (this is the method I'm currently using) Is there a way to manipulate the sub-components in section that I haven't found?

I want to export from Revit 2013 to AutoCAD so that each component of a wall assembly exports to a separate AutoCAD layer. For example on a simple stud wall with drywall on both sides I would like the interior lines on different layers than the lines for the outside faces. Is this possible?

I linked in a dwg floor plan and it shows on the first floor but not in the 2nd floor or any others views. I thought as long as you left "current view only" in the Link CAD Dialog box unchecked it should show in all views.

Using Revit 2014, I link in a dwg file. I open a view and using V/G overides for Imported Categories, I turn off the Acad layers I don't want to see. Then the next time my dwg file is updated, the V/G will remain the same and I won't have to reset the layer views. Now I duplicate this view for additional views I need in my project. But I need to apply a different View Template to each view. This destroys the original V/G settings that I had set up for the dwg file.Is there a way to set up my linked file so that it retains the layer on/off settings through each update and lock it. Then I can apply different View Templates to introduce other characteristics without altering the desired layer settings.

Is it possible by importing a drafting view or copying 2D details, to not duplicate the detail components families ? I tried many ways, but I always get my families duplicated.
Copying 'Gypsum' will always duplicate with 'Gypsum1', even if they are exacly the same original family.

I'm getting an error message that I don’t fully understand when using an adaptive component. "There is only one component in this repeater" I am trying to create a undulating ceiling and attach an adaptive "Rafter" to follow the form. I can occasionally get it to work but on occasion I receive the error message. I can send you the file if you like, I’m pretty sure it’s a “User Issue”!RAC 2013
I have been told that it is to do with the direction that I draw the curves but I would like a more indepth explanation of this error...
The other issue I'm having may have to do with the placement of the adaptive component on the node plane, depending on where I place the component it will change the orientation if the rafter...
