Is there a program out there or function within revit that will allow a better work flow between designers and drafters? Our office spends a lot of energy printing and maintaining a "check set" for the project architect to work out of. He has a working knowledge of Revit but simply prefers the speed and simplicity of sketching. Is there anything that mimics that type of experience but is digital and thus always curren?
View 4 RepliesI have to go through and extract/delete the backgrounds of about 230 photos. Each and every one I have to go through multiple save dialogs, choose compression, etc. Is there a way that I could simply overwrite the original file with the one that I deleted the background from, thus saving a large amount of time in my workflow?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a couple users that when a command is picked from the ribbon Revit starts to run a configuration process. A window opens like it is installing Revit again. They can select cancel or OK and the command will continue to allow them to work but it is very time consuming waiting for it to stop or cancel the process.
This started to happen once update 1 was installed for Revit 2014. I have tired repair/reinstall and uninstall Revit to stop it but it still continues even if Update 1 isn't installed.
Windows 7 64bit with all the latest patches. Revit 2014.
what I can try next. I have 70 users and this is only happening on 3 of them.
We have a client with very strict layer name standards for AutoCAD. I have created a .txt file for locating the Revit elements on the correct layers when converting to .dwg files. The problem is the new layers created in AutoCAD during the conversion include a "3D" prefix which we then have to go in and manually eliminate. Is there any way to avoid this, it totally disagrees with the client's naming standards?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've seen umpteen explanations of how to change lineweights in Revit.None of them address this simple thing I'm trying to do.
I just want to:
1. Create a few lilnestyles that appear along side the other line styles - for instance:
Thin Line, Medium Line, Thick Line, <<Really Thick Line, >> <<Absurdly Thick Line,>> etc, etc..
2. Draw a line
3. Click on the line
4. Select from a drop down list, "Absurdly Thick Line" and have it instantly inherit the linestyle I created.
The only way I can do this is to create a family, make a new subcategory of Detail Items, create the characteristics I want in the line, export it as a .dwg file, then import it into Revit - and then I see the new line style along side the other line styles, and I can then select any line and make it the new line style.
Certainly, there is an easy to find, simple, straightforward way to add line styles to the existing group - and have those new line styles become immediately accessible from the "Modify Lines" Linestyle Drop down Menu.
How the PMS color palettes "simulate" on screen how the color will print on different substrates (glossy vs matte vs uncoated paper). That's great for comps, but if you convert it to CMYK to print it, and the values are representing a "simulated" color it won't look correct (by that I mean come close to matching the spot color). For example, the uncoated palette simulates the color by making them appear a bit washed out on screen - pretty good visual simulation. But it might do so by adding black and cyan to orange for example, etc. - effectively dulling the original color.
So if I convert that to CMYK within the new Pantone + color palette, and then send it to the printer - it won't appear as it did on screen, it will dull the end color even more because it's converted the color to the dull simulated version - what a disaster! It's only doing half the job - showing us what it should look like on screen. In order to be truly efficient for design professionals the CMYK conversion might remove black and cyan completely to effectively brighten the color in the final output on uncoated paper. I would prefer it just stick to the standard conversion, which Pantone did have as a standard palette option (PMS to process), and then I can adjust if I think it's necessary.
Any corporate branding system will likely start with a PMS spot color palette for the identity. Then it will build into many different adaptations - full color brochures, large format banners and trade show graphics, website, advertising. So any corporate branding system will need to have PMS, CMYK and RGB versions of their main corporate color palette. There was a standard for these translations that was automatically consistent in the Adobe software and that is now all over the place, so it relies on individuals manually adapting the color mixes for final use - what a great way to screw things up.
Is there anyway no wall gap line between floor when I copy 1st floor walls to 2nd floor. Not to use "Join geometry" & Line work: invisible line" tools? See attached picture.

The stairs are monolithic.
The problem I have is that at the top of the stairs the end riser can be seen and so it appears as an extra tread when viewed in plan.
See attached file, the red cross marks the lines which I need to remove.
I cannot join the stairs to the slab.
How can I remove these lines - is there something better than a masking region? can I set something in the family?
When I exported my project from Revit to Autocad Software Section line is not displayed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to dimension between the face of a wall and non parallel wall opposite it. The non parallel wall turns a 90 degree corner, and it is at this corner that I want to measure perpendicular to my first wall.
1. Is there a way to dimension between non-parallel walls? When you place the dimension you click on the wall at the location you want to dimension, so I don't see why Revit can't place the dimension at that point. That dimension would be particular to that one point along the non-parallel wall.
2. I got around this by placing a reference plane and dimensioning to that, but I'd rather not do this because then if I hide the reference plane, my dimension disappears.
Is there another work around or am I missing a tool I don't know about?
I noticed that Revit likes to show the entire stair going down. This works for me in a lot of cases but I have a project that the second floor is showing the stair all the way down to the first floor, and there is another stair going from the second floor to the third that I really need to see.
Plan regions don't seem to allow me to add a break line below the second floor and see the stair from the second to the third floor. The floors are on and the view is set to hidden.
The attached png shows the up stairs in blue that I would like to see and the Down stairs I would like to cut at the landing.
Why revit has two hidden line styles. The first being the system line style "<hidden>" and the other "hidden". You would think you would be able to delete or modify "hidden" to reduce the number of line style a user can select from but you can't.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRevit 2012 installed on the student computers. The computers are only a year old. However, they do have integrated video. The computers are capable of running Inventor 2012 with not problems at all. The problem that I have having is that when I try to draw a wall on Revit, a message pops up that says "An error has occurred while drawing the contents of this window. This window shall be closed." It only happens when I draw a wall in LINE form. If I use the rectangle tool to draw all 4 walls at the same time, it doesnt crash.

From that building section I created a callout for a stair section detail. In the callout view, some grid lines appear but not all grid lines appear. I turned off crop view but they still do not appear.

I noticed that, whenever I enter a command (such as "place a component"), I have to hit "cancel" TWICE to get out of it. Seems strange; I would expect to see an "end" command, instead of "cancel" (which implies exiting without doing anything). Or maybe I'm just going nuts trying to learn Revit.
Yes, I am new to Revit, and I can add a revision cloud and see the line added to the rev block but I'm trying to add revision and have it show up on the rev block without adding a rev cloud. I did it once and can't figure out how to do it again. On the Sheet Issues/Revisions dialog box I check on the Issued box and on show I've selected Cloud and Tag, Tag, and None.

I went to the overides in the project and nothing was overridden, so I went ahead and changed the imported families override to red just to see if it would change and it still didn't change. How do I fix this? When I open the family, the lines are red, just not in the project.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find where to control the Crop Region Line. I'd love to be able to creat view templates to control visibility and also Line Weight. Currently we are turning them off per view. and only want it on for 3D View and Interior elevations.
I know that by selecting each view crop region, right clicking and overriding by element I can control the weight.
On a view of a wall detail, I added a flashing with a Detail Line which shows only on that view specific detail. The flashing is at the bottom of a wood stud and brick wall in which the brick was added with a repeating detail. Now I want to move slightly the flashing a little lower from where I originally put it, but by doing so the brick also moves and I do not want the brick to move.
I assume something is locked or joined there. My question; How to detach the flashing from the brick so only the flashing line moves?
Is there a way of overriding line the "tracking" feature when dragging line endpoints to snap to something. Near points seem to want to track along the line axis but snapping 1st to a intersection or endpoint then allows tracking along the host axis or line. Its a bit hit and miss. Is then anyway of overriding so the endpost snaps semi freehand to a point on a line (i.e. nearest).
View 2 Replies View Relatedhow other people approach Revit (the joys of working as the solo Revit pioneer in the practice)I am in the middle of putting together various families - and have been experimenting with symbol lines for the detailing at reveals / heads etc.
For the moment I had simply used masked regions to create the joinery of frames, beads, architraves etc. which works fine, apart from not being able to use any fills at family level - leaving it to call-out drafting to add the detail in the project.
I tried the alternate of using Detail Components within the family (a simple rectangular joinery section) with shared parameters so that it can be driven by the host family - which allows drafting fills to be used.
It looks better and will save time placing fills later on to call-out details.
But - is there any impact on performance in doing this (every section now shows the fill when set at 'Fine') - is this a standard approach, or am I better leaving the symbol linework as hatch-free in the family itself - and leaving it all for addition in individual call-outs ?
Why are my Level Lines highlighted green?
Also why do some of the level symbols appear blue?
Searched and find, how to change the colors of the types, not why they are displaying in other colors than black.
