Revit :: How To Purge Imported DWG Object With All Of Its Layers Deleted
Jan 25, 2006I have a revit file with an imported dwg object. I accidentally deleted all of its layers. How can I purge the object out of the revit file?

Trim the master object and the cloned object gets deleted.The master object cannot be directly trimmed, so I grouped it with another object, which seems to enable the shaping tools. check if this behavior exists in X5 also.
I have inserted a clip about the problem. Maybe other users and the Corel staff will check it out.
Revit :: Delete Imported DWG Category From Imported Objects
Nov 3, 2011I have a dwg that someone imported and I cannot find where this object is. I have tried searching the database with DBLink, Ideate BIMLink and I have gone into every view to no avail. I also used the reviTTools add-in which says there are no drawings in the file. Am I dealing with a corrupted file? I am super OCD and this is in our Template which makes it an even bigger problem.

Mar 28, 2012In our drawing files, we have several layers that our office is no longer using. The layers are empty but I can't purge them. We also have a block that seems to be related to the layers we cant purge. The block is made up of only 1 word. I've inserted the block, exploded it, and erased it but I still can't purge it. There seems to be some connection between these two things, but I haven't been able solve the problem.

Dec 4, 2013Just wanted to check if there were any reasons I hadn't considered as to why Purge doesn't want to purge certain empty layers. I'm changing the architect's background to our standards, and some layers simply do not want to go away.
All the remaining layers are turned on and unlocked.
I have exploded everything repeatedly until I cannot explode more.
I'm purging nested items and getting rid of points/zero-length geometry.
I have run a QSELECT on all the offending layers, revealing 0 items on every one.
I have erased and purged everything that was on paper space.
I have QSELECTed for every "weird" item on the drawing (block reference/point/attribute/whatever) and got rid of it.
I have locked/turned off all layers I want to keep, did a CTRL+A and hit delete.
I even turned all splines to polylines just in case.
After doing all of this, I still have 9 more "live" layers that do not want to go away.
Now, I'm aware that I have the LAYDEL option (which is what I'll be using here shortly), but I was just curious as to what drawing elements I could have possibly missed so that AutoCAD refuses to purge these layers.
Revit :: Cannot Purge Unused Dimension Styles
Jul 14, 2011I had a user ask why some dimension styles cannot be purged even if all the dimensions are deleted from the project.
Most probably the dimension style is used in a family that is loaded in the project.
When you select all dimension instances in the entire project, it will not select those included in the families. But the purge function will 'see' that it is still used in a family and therefore it will not be listed in the purge dialog.
So you will have to find in which family the dimension style is used.
I don't think there is an easy way to do it. I would make a copy of the project and then delete a bunch of families until the dimension style can be purged, then refine the research until to find the family that contains the dimension style.
Revit :: Detach / Purge And Remove Links
Sep 11, 2013I have a request from an Architect to detach, purge and remove links from my model every time before I upload. I used to clean up received models (MEP 2008-2010) thinking it would increase performance. It's been a years since I have done this and my model performance behaves no differently. Is there any validity to his claims that this is beneficial on the Architectural side?

May 14, 2013I got the below warning today for one of my AI files that I was working on yesterday. The file had several layers that had been worked on for a number of days. I know that I shut the application down correctly yesterday, but the warning states otherwise. I had another file open yesterday and it is fine. In this file, all of my layers, except for 4 incomplete layers are now gone! I had saved the document several times yesterday, but it is showing none of those saved changes. Is there a way that I can get my file back?

However in my layer properties manager I have 37 all of which are turned on unlocked etc. When I try to purge theses layers are not deleted. Is there any reason why I can see theses layers and more importantly erase them?

May 25, 2012Is there a way to "lock" layers so that they cannot be deleted or purged from a drawing?
I have a template with all titleblocks, layers, dim styles, and such, all set up. But since there are a small group of layers that are not actually used in the drawing or template they are "purgable" or "deletable". As far as I understand locking the layer locks the geometry to keep it from being edited so it will not work for what I am thinking.

Nov 1, 2012Ive been working on a piece of art for about a week when suddenly i was having some computer issues. I restart my computer and open up my gimp file and a file that previously had three layers now has one layer. The other layers where seemingly deleted, and i don't know why. Ive read another thread on here that was dealing with the same issue yet none of problems or solutions applied to my problem. This did happen one time before and all the layers were deleted, but i just started the project over again. The art i lost was being licensed, and I'm sort of freaking out.

Oct 10, 2013I have a number of layout tabs with varying layer controls applied in multiple viewports. This layout may be made up of a number of xrefs. I end up with a lot of layers in the host drawing from the xrefs, and even after I purge the xrefs to eliminate some of the xrefs, the layers remain in the host drawing, even though they no longer exist.
Is there any way to update the xref definitions to get rid of the layers without losing the layer setups I have? VISRETAIN is set to 1, and if I reset it to 0, I will lose all of the viewport controls I have put in place.
AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Deleted The Extra Layers
Dec 3, 2013I found a lisp in an old post and I edited it alittle with my own layers to have it change to but when I use it, it doesn't deleted the extra layers. It says layer cannot be deleted. Below is part of the code that I am using, I didn't copy all of them since there are alot of layers in the lisp that I added. maybe I copied something wrong I am not sure.

GIMP :: PSD Imported From Photoshop - Can't See Layers Properly
Nov 26, 2013I have a PSD made in Phoshop. In this file I have layers named button which has a blue gradient color:
1. Created a round rectangle tool.
2. Under styles menu, I chose another style which I downloaded from the web (n ASL file).
The problem is that in GIMP I can't see the colors in the layers and only see the base style which is black and white.
Wandering in the web I have downloaded the three scripts from [URL] ... into the plug-ins directory of GIMP, but still it looks like I can't import an ASL file into GIMP.
The weird thing is that opening the PSD in a simple picture viewer (Gwenview) I can see the colors perfectly but I obviously can't work with the layers.
You can see in the attached files a snapshot of the picture as supposed to be (orig.jpg) and as seen in Gimp (gimped.jpg)
Illustrator :: Underlines Of Image Layers Imported From PSD
Oct 1, 2013The above image is the layers panel in Illustrator of a placed PSD file that was imported with the layers maintained.
What do the dotted underlines for the two layers mean? Do they just mean they are layers or something else?
There were layer masks on those layers in Photoshop, but they were applied to the image so there is a transparency around the image.
I understand what has happened to the image, I just don't understand what the dotted lines are supposed to signify.

Jun 26, 2013 I'm designing a piece of furniture in Rhino using Grasshopper. I would like to create my measured drawings of this piece in Revit (as a way of learning the software). I have linked the 5 components of the piece to my Revit project file (as SAT files but I could export them as something else if that would work). All I want to do is create a single sheet showing 1 plan view, 2 elevations, 1 section and an exploded axon. However, I cannot seem to dimension the components. I need overall dimensions as well as the size of radii at curved corners in elevation and filleted corners in plan, and also thickness of the material used.
Is there something I need to do to get the dimensions to 'see' this set of objects?

May 18, 2013I'm importing my Revit file and when I try to select only the roof to apply materials it gives me a selection of "Wood-Sheathing-particlboard/osb" which includes the second floor sheathing and other things I don't want in my selection.
I thought I could add an edit poly modifier and select the individual roof polygons and apply materials to them but when I "Apply materials to selected objects" it applies to all of the wood sheathing,... selection.
How do I break these apart and re-name them?
Revit :: Not Cutting Through Imported DWG 3D Model?
Mar 13, 2012How I can successfully import a 3d .dwg model into Revit so I can cut through it in plan and section? I built the model in sketchup, exported it as a .dwg, then impoorted this .dwg into a new Revit family. I then loaded this family into the revit file I'm working in. Its cuts through the model on basement and ground floor plans but not on 2nd or attic. For the 2nd or attic it just shows me the roof of my model.
