Revit :: How To Dimension Imported 3D File
Jun 26, 2013 I'm designing a piece of furniture in Rhino using Grasshopper. I would like to create my measured drawings of this piece in Revit (as a way of learning the software). I have linked the 5 components of the piece to my Revit project file (as SAT files but I could export them as something else if that would work). All I want to do is create a single sheet showing 1 plan view, 2 elevations, 1 section and an exploded axon. However, I cannot seem to dimension the components. I need overall dimensions as well as the size of radii at curved corners in elevation and filleted corners in plan, and also thickness of the material used.
Is there something I need to do to get the dimensions to 'see' this set of objects?

Apr 28, 2010We use Revit Arch as our main familiy modeling software. We are just starting to model familyes in Inventor since we noticed that an EAC exchange new enviroment allows to export Inventor modeled componets into revit whith some advanteges
The problem is than we cant assign materials to the solids, once that we had opened on Revit.
None instance material parameter exist in order to drive the material whit a family parameter, and assignin the material by category is not enought couse we had different components in the same category. sub category assigment is also imposible cause none Subcategory parameter is shown to assign the solid to on sub category created.

Revit :: Crash / Material (shading) Update On Imported SAT File
Aug 15, 2013I have an SAT file that I inserted into a Conceptual Mass Family and then loaded into a Revit project. I have changed the name of the object in the Object Styles/Imported Objects dialog and assigned a unique material to it as well.
When I load it into the project its generally fine, sections/plans/elevations/section boxes work fine. When I try to update the material settings or the material it retains the original material settings. After the second attempt at assigning a new material: Crash Error Unexpected something or other Shut down.
I opened the original Mass famiily and updated the material shading once and it worked fine. I did it again and: Crash Error Unexpected something or other Shut down.
This is not my first time to use this process. Probably the fiftieth time. However it is the first time I've used it in 2014 with the new(really old) improved (fixed) materials dialog.
Is there a bug or known issue in 14 vs. 13. Am I missing a hotfix? It works on 13.
Revit :: Delete Imported DWG Category From Imported Objects
Nov 3, 2011I have a dwg that someone imported and I cannot find where this object is. I have tried searching the database with DBLink, Ideate BIMLink and I have gone into every view to no avail. I also used the reviTTools add-in which says there are no drawings in the file. Am I dealing with a corrupted file? I am super OCD and this is in our Template which makes it an even bigger problem.

Oct 11, 2005I inserted CAD files and erased them from all views once I no longer needed them, yet some CAD files are still listed in the Visibility/Graphics menu under Imported Categories. Need to just select and delete from the menu, but there is no way to select and delete from the list. How can I simply clear out all imported categories?

May 18, 2013I'm importing my Revit file and when I try to select only the roof to apply materials it gives me a selection of "Wood-Sheathing-particlboard/osb" which includes the second floor sheathing and other things I don't want in my selection.
I thought I could add an edit poly modifier and select the individual roof polygons and apply materials to them but when I "Apply materials to selected objects" it applies to all of the wood sheathing,... selection.
How do I break these apart and re-name them?
Revit :: Not Cutting Through Imported DWG 3D Model?
Mar 13, 2012How I can successfully import a 3d .dwg model into Revit so I can cut through it in plan and section? I built the model in sketchup, exported it as a .dwg, then impoorted this .dwg into a new Revit family. I then loaded this family into the revit file I'm working in. Its cuts through the model on basement and ground floor plans but not on 2nd or attic. For the 2nd or attic it just shows me the roof of my model.

Feb 14, 2013I have a relatively simple mass modeled in Rhino that I imported to a Revit Mass Family (via .sat file). I then placed walls, roofs, structure on the face of this mass. However I would like to be able adjust this mass, either in Rhino or Revit and the walls and structure adjust accordingly. Now however, if I reload the mass into my Revit family, and then reload the family to my model, and then attempt to Update to Face, the error "Faces defining this Element cannot be reacquired." and my only option is to delete the offending wall/roof etc.
Is this just a limitation in Revit/Rhino, or am I totally doing it wrong?

Aug 22, 2011Is there any way to change the appearance of a mass imported into Revit? I simply want to change the dark grey that shows in the rendered view and/or the white that shows up in the shaded view so I can control how background buildings (imported through google earth/sketch up) look in my drawings.
I do not want to rebuild the masses with walls, ceilings, etc, because they are just background site elements. I have tried to do this through object styles. I have tried to do this through "Override by Element" and "Override by Category". I am importing the files as in-place masses and there is no way to edit materials because "Materials" doesn't even show up as one of the element properties.

I've just started a new project. I've imported a survey done in AutoCAD and converted it to a Topo surface.
The surface appears in two of the Elevations (East and North), but not the other two. I have two empty views. I've turned off Crop View. When I did this and a Z A, I was able to find the East and North elevations and move the views over to them. However, I can't find the elevations in the other views.
Revit :: Set Lineweights For Generic Models Imported From Autocad?
Jun 8, 2012I have an MEP dwg with 3d geometry that I would like to take a lineweighted section through.
I successfully made the section by importing the cad file into a generic mass, but I cant seem to get the lineweights to show up.
I've tried setting overrides and object styles for generic models, but it doesnt register the cut line, only the projection line style.
I also tried importing as an IFC, which also converts the file to generic models, but no dice.
Revit :: Referencing Imported Family Type In Formula?
Jul 15, 2013I wish to create a formula for a family parameter which itself references a 'Type' of an imported family. Specifically I wish to create a quoin stack which can be used for a 'reveal' situation either side of a door or window rather than just on a corner. A 'quoin stack,' as that which comes with the revit content files, typically is made up of two vertical arrays which intersect giving alternative long and short sides. Each of the arrays is made up of a different quoin type, a 'Short' and a 'Long' type which swap dimensions from from perpendicular face to the other. This of course is no good for a reveal situation where on the window or door reveal of both interleived courses needs to be the same, whilst maintaining the 'long/short' appearance on the wall face containing the window or door.
I have got so far as to create a 'reveal depth' parameter within the quoin stack family but need to find a way of addressing the 'Long' quoin type to change its 'short' dimension to suit the reveal depth whilst changing the 'long' dimension of the 'Short' quoin type to be the same.

View 4 Replies View RelatedPremiere Pro :: Opening CC Project File On Second Machine Fails
Mar 1, 2014On my primary Workstation I´ve created a project of medium complexity (150GB, approx. 200 files, 5 sequences).Here everything is working just fine.
On my laptop I also installed Adobe CC. I copied the whole projects' folder from workstation 1 onto my external HDD and connected it to my laptop.Opening and cutting works fine here too.
Now, when I save and take the project (project file only) back to workstation 1, here Premiere Pro CC fails to load it up.The loading bar proceeds to about 75% and then freezes. If I give it some time (10-15 minutes) it finally finishes loading, but Premiere isn't showing any reaction to mouse or keyboard, there are no panels at all visible. Basically it is crashed, allthough that´s not being indicated by the task manager.
I´ve tried all the tips from in here as well as the "usual stuff": Saving a new project file, nothing.Deleting preview files, then saving a new file, nothing.Importing the project into AE and exporting a new project (on my laptop), nope.Deleting all dynamic linked comps from the old project, saving then taking it to laptop 1, opening and saving it again, taking it back to the workstation, no.Completely deleting everything Adobe on my workstation 1 and re-installing CC, "great" experience, but to no avail.I also followed the solution of the similar problem on another thread here in the forums, with unzipping the xml and deleting certain lines of code and so forth, still nothing. Then I went ahead and installed CC on my second laptop (not at all to be considered a workstation). Here the projects saved on laptop 1 opened just fine (asking for media files of course...).
EDIT:I forgot to mention that a new and blank project from the laptops opens just fine on the workstation...
So I have to consider that something's wrong with my primary workstation. Right?
It´s a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 with 24GB of Ram, GeForce GTX 570, i7 950, WD drives only, Windows on a seperate hybrid disk...All CC installations are up to date.
Photoshop :: Mac OS Finder Fails To Display File Icons For Most Files?
Mar 5, 2013I'm running PS CS6 on a new 27"imac. When saving documents in CS6, the majority of times no icon is saved only the file name when viewed from the finder. Around 10% of the documents saved will have an icon, the remainder will not. This is across the board with all file types. If I open up a document through CS6 I can see the file icon in the CS6 as I search, it's just through the finder that I can't.

Jan 27, 2012Trying to the base view system in acad 2012. Got inventor model and want to document in acad. New blank layout tab. Select base view and as model space is empty it asks for inventor file as it should. I select my ipt file.
it then says 'invalid autodesk inventor file C:projects......'
the command then closes.
I created brand new part, plain cube, and still the same.

Apr 21, 2013I recently upgraded to PSE11 but the installation did not create the service Adobe Active File Monitor V11. I followed the forum thread [URL] .... to completely uninstall, remove residual files, reinstall from DVD. Still the service DOES NOT EXIST.
I followed the Elements Village thread on "Watched Folders Issues" to manually create the service. But when I attempt to start it, I get an error that says "Error 1053 The service did not respond to the start of control request in a timely manner."
I'm using WinXP Media Center Ed. SP3.
InDesign :: CC Packaging Process Fails With Error Message - Unable To Copy Necessary File(s)
Dec 2, 2013When I try to package a file with a lot of links, the Indesign CC packaging process fails with the error message "Unable to copy necessary file(s)". I am able to make a PDF of the same file, but when packaking the process fails every time. The app does not crash, just gives an error message. What gives?
(I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina Display with 16 GB RAM, running OS 10.9 and all CC 9.1 updated with the latest patches).
Lightroom :: Correcting Imported File Names (way To Bulk Rename Back To Original File Names)
Dec 18, 2011I accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding.
How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename.
P.S. Here is an example of what I mean:
ON CARD:
IMG_0001.NEF
...
IMG_0300.NEF
WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:
IMG_0001 {shot by John Doe}.NEF

3ds Max :: Cannot Edit Imported FBX File
Aug 3, 2013I've imported fbx file into max but now I cannot edit it, nor can I collapse any modifiers from the stack. I believe it is because the fbx file is linked and I'd like to breake this connection so I can edit my model.

Nov 26, 2012I have been given several drawings to perform FEA analysis. These files are solidworks files, but my school does not have the FEA package so I had to export the files to a .stp file to import it into Inventor.
On top of that, the SolidWorks file I need to analyze is an assembly, so I 'saved as' the assembly in Solidworks as a part to have one solid part.
The file seems to import fine at first, I can create sketches onto faces. But when I go to create an analysis, and try to set a fixed point or force load, I cannot select a face. I tried to "cheat" and add some material to the faces I wanted to use. When I run the analysis, it just doesn't recognize the initial material in the 'mesh'.
I CANNOT include full screenshots of the system, due to the nature of the project. I can show small clipped shots of the software status, but not the drawing itself. If seeing the "model" box on the left would work, I can supply that with the drawing names blacked out.
Lightroom :: GIF File Doesn't Want To Be Imported
Sep 2, 2010I have added an image file to a folder that had been previously imported into Lightroom.
When I tried synchronizing the folder after adding the file, LR does not even see this new file.
The file was created in Photoshop Elements using the Save for Web command (GIF format).
