Revit :: Bind Image To DWG Export?
Aug 1, 2013
I have a complete CD set to export from Revit to DWGs and aside from the complete lack of customization needed for correct NCS layer mapping, my current issue is the company logos on the title blocks exporting as separate files. I am in Revit 2013.

Everytime when I try to export a view or walkthrough in revit 2013, I get a blank image or avi. I do nothing specia. I just use the standard settings that revit has, the same way I did in revit 2012, where it works.

Is there anyway to bind a raster image to a drawing?
Everytime I bind/insert my title block the images dont bind in and also the file paths get deleted. Asked most of the drafters I know and everyone says it cant be done, which is what i think.
Normally I would use a CAD version of the Logos (for the client/architect,etc.) but sometime there isnt one available so have to use raster images.

In Photoshop, when I make a selection of an image, the rectangle selection tool stays within the bounds of the image (layer). I would like to do this in GIMP, but the selection is allowed to extend beyond the photo, and basically select blank space.
Basically, I would like to do this so that I can have a fixed ratio box and be able to move it to the very edge of the image without having to worry about making sure the cursor lands exactly on the edge. I'm sure it is a simple option to select somewhere

As I’ve only got the free version of Google Sketchup ive had to export an add location terrain via 3ds Max and then into Revit as a DXF and then convert to topo surface. This is laborious but it looks good once imported into Revit. The only problem I now have is that this topo surface could be anywhere in the world? How do I attach its true coordinates so I can link other Revit and CAD files?

I am currently using Revit Architecture 2012 and am trying to export a project file in a .fbx format to start using Autodesk Showcase which I just downloaded a free trial for. For whatever reason, Revit won't let me export any file in a .fbx format. Instead of being able to click on that as an option, it's greyed out. Is there an update I need to download or an fbx plug-in I need to get to utilize the fbx exporting function??
PS: I've put myself in the 3D view which I know can be an issue of why the fbx export function is greyed out.

I am trying to export some Revit models to .nwc for use in navisworks.
I have been getting some odd errors, sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I will get the error, close the program, re-open, and it will export fine. Other times I try that and still get the same error with no luck.
I need to get these into .NWC files, and doing it from Revit holds more infomation than trying to import them in Navisworks.
Attached is a picture of the error message Revit is giving me...

I exported a Bim model (IFC format) from Butler Advantage XP. When I open the IFC in Revit it says that it can't create blend and can't regenerate family. When I continue, by deleting the elements, the model is without the roof on the building. Is there a way to prevent this from happening before I export it from the other program, or a way to fix it once I import it into Revit?

Currently when I "export to Cad format" "dwg" the resulting file is created with the wrong date and time.
I am exporting a view of a floor plan with the naming convension "Automatic - Short" and the "Export views on sheets and links as external references" turned off. When i proceed the resulting file has a date of June 25th 2013 at 4:46pm...today is October 16th , 2013 at 9:08am...according to my computer.
I've tried multiple times over the last couple weeks and have had the same result.The weird part is if I switch to the "Automatic - Long (Specify prefix)" or "Manual (Specify name)" naming convension the date ends up being correct.
The fact that the naming convension doing this and not any of the other settings makes me think it is a Revit issue and not my computer.

I have been able to insert a PDF into an AutoCAD 2013 dwg but only as an attachment. This seems to be similar to xref but I can't seem to bind the pdf to the dwg. Therefore when I send the dwg to a client and they open it, they only see the drawing format and no PDF attachment. Sending the PDF as a separate file is not an acceptable solution.
Is there a way to insert a PDF and bind it to the dwg so an external reference file is not required?
I'm not interested in converting the PDF to a dxf or any other format. Just interested in knowing whether there is a way to insert and bind a PDF to an ACAD dwg.

I have a method DrawMLeaderLine(Database db, Transaction tr, Point3d point, string text) that draws me a MLeader line to the given point with the given text as annotation. The MLeader line points to the midpoint of a Line entity. What I need is a binding between the Line midpoint and the MLeader line, so when I move or resize the Line, the MLeader line should follow! I already tried to solve that, using constraints, but it doesn't work for Leaders.
This is my code...
public static MLeader DrawMLeaderLine(Database db, Transaction tr, Point3d point, string text) { Point3d mTextLocation = point + new Vector3d(5, 5, 0); BlockTableRecord btr = tr.GetObject(db.CurrentSpaceId, OpenMode.ForWrite) as BlockTableRecord; MText mText = new MText(); mText.SetDatabaseDefaults(); mText.SetContentsRtf(text); [code]........
will be called from a different class...
Line line = DrawingUtil.DrawLine(doc.Database, tr, closestPoints.Item1, closestPoints.Item2); //Get midpoint of line double midPointX = (line.EndPoint.X + line.StartPoint.X) / 2.0d; double midPointY = (line.EndPoint.Y + line.StartPoint.Y) / 2.0d; Point3d midPointOfLine = new Point3d(midPointX, midPointY, 0); //Draw the leaderline MLeader leaderLine = DrawingUtil.DrawMLeaderLine(doc.Database, tr, midPointOfLine, "Connection");

Specifically, I would like to be able to click and hold my middle mouse button to drag the screen, a la the Hand Tool. Additionally, I'd like scrolling my mouse wheel to zoom in and out, rather than scroll the screen up and down. I know this can be done by holding Spacebar to use the left mouse button to drag the screen, but I'd like to be able to do it with my scroll wheel alone, especially since it doesn't already seem to be filling any other important function.

I've got a dodgy Google Earth screenshot that I've chucked into CAD to scale it (approximately) and more importantly align it to the correct coordinate system as per the survey. However, I need to use that image in another modelling program (which only accepts image files).
Question is - is it possible to export just an image from Autocad back to an image file? I obviously don't want to plot the entire drawing to PDF/BMP or anything, simply extract the image that I have resized. Or any other way of getting an image from Google Maps or the like and scaling it correctly?

I already have a revit model of a building with the areas identified like "room A", "room B", etc. I exported it to FBX and opened with Unity but the information about the rooms was not there (I am assuming FBX format does not save that information)
I might be wrong but I beleive IFC format saves this information. The problem is that Unity does not import IFC files and the file seems way too complicated to make my own parser to read it. I was wondering if there is a lib or something that I could use to visualize the 3D model without losing the rooms identification.
