View 2 Repliesin another thread, spectra mentioned to set the radius at the resolution/200. so i assume this means if its 72, then divide it by 200 and set the radius at .36. I was just curious as to whether or not anyone knows where this number comes from? I tried it, and it works great. Just not sure why it is so.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using photoshop cs. After layer adjustments I have tried to use the unsharp filter, but nothing shows up in my unsharp mask window. By trial and error I have found that I can do unsharp if it's the first thing I do, i.e, no adjustment layers. Is there a reason for that or am I doing something wrong ?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMost of the photos I shoot end up getting resized for the web. I have heard it said that it's best to use unsharp mask, after you do the resizing. Still others have told me to unsharp mask, then resize for web.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis tutorial applies the filter 'unsharp mask' on the 'stone texture copy' layer (pic 1). After that the same filter on the layer beneath 'stone texture'(pic 2). After this: Edit-Fade Unsharp Mask (pic 3+4). I'm doing exact the same steps but I don't get this 'Fade Unsharp Mask' but only 'Fade..' and this is greyed out. If you notice he uses the unsharp filter on the stone texture and not the masks.
I tried this in cs3 and cs2 and both give the same result.
When I use Unsharp Mask, the window pops up across part of my image. Cannot drag it away from the image. I noticed the title "Unsharp Mask" is not highlighted which is a clue that it can't be moved. Are there any particular settings I should look into?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWas attempting to clean up a photo enlargement last nite utilizing 'Unsharp Mask'...inadvertantly changed the 'Threshold' setting in the dialog window...& failed to notice what this setting was previously engaged at.
[this happens to me every so often, aamof.]
so...I'm using Photoshop CS3. What is the default number for this setting ???
(or...perhaps more importantly...how does one return *all* such dialog settings in Photoshop back to factory default ???)
I had taken a photoshop class and learned that there were some "works most of the time" settings for unsharp mask in photoshop. Unfortunetly for me, I not only lost the book that came with the class I've forgotten the settings entirely. If there is a thread pertaining to this or if someone can help me out I would appreciate it. I did look and even searched (twice!) first, but with the wealth of info here I may have passed by it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI will get into the sharpen dialogue box, set the correct values, the picture looks fine at this point, then click OK. After that, photoshop will then reduce the level of sharpening I have added. I have no idea why it's blurring my sharpening but it's driving me mad. Does anyone know what's causing this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using PE10, and usually start with the "Quick Edit" tab to do a "Smart Fix" where I can select a desirable fix. Sometimes I additionally do Shadow adjustments and/or Highlight adjustments, but not much else. Then go to "Full" edits.
- "Enhance - Auto Contrast" does tonal corrections as I understand. However I usually see no difference after doing this. Is that because when I did the Smart Fix, it is essentially doing the Auto Contrast as one of its adjustments? If so, is it just a waste of time for me to do the Auto Contrast if I have previously done a Smart Fix?
- As the last step, I usually use "Enhance - Unsharp Mask" on my photos with Amount = 70, Radius = 2.0, and Threshold = 0. Are those reasonable numbers? I understand that beginners tend to over-sharpen their photos. I've played around with various values, and these numbers seem to have worked for me, but would just like other opinions since I don't have that professional eye as to what is a great photo. I make sure that I zoom in to print size or more when looking at the results of sharpening.
I like to use the sharpen feature and the unsharp mask feature but haven't gotten very good at it. Mostly I'm wondering if there is a way to calibrate the sharpen function so that it doesn't sharpen quite so much each time I click it.

I then have to Force Quit Elements to clear it. Apple say that it is a problem with Elements. Using the same procedure in other applications, clicking Cancel or OK does work.

Gimp does unsharp mask of 0.1 radius, but unfortunately the batch processors only allow 2+ pixel radius. E.g. upres.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to come up with a script for batch processing since i have 800 pictures that need editing.
(define (do-many dir) (let* ((files-list (car (cdr (file-glob dir 0)))) (do-one (lambda (f) (gimp-color-balance)))) (plug-in-color-enhance RUN-NONINTERACTIVE image drawable) (plug-in-unsharp-mask RUN-NONINTERACTIVE image drawable 5.0 0.5 0) (map do-one files-list)))
Now i tried this in the console but the script stops no matter what part i try to fix.
My subject line pretty much sums up what I want to ask.
The thing is I've learned how to do both of them, but every textbook exercise I've done regarding one I found out that I can pull off with the other too.
Are they simply two different mechanisms for doing the same thing?
how to manipulate the size of the wipeout for a text mask.
Simply selecting the masked text in C3D 2011 provided pick boxes at the four corners of the wipeout, making it very easy to manipulate the size of the wipeout box. I'm hoping to do the same in C3D 2012, but the wipeout seems to be treated like a block and lacks the pick boxes.A system variable maybe?
While creating various circular masks with a radial gradient from white to black, whenever I change the blending mode of the mask path Ai will throw me out of mask mode into layer editing mode. Since this is on a large document of ~2Gb file with multiple artbords for large poster & UI refresh speed is slow, this has become quite frustrating. Is this normal Ai behaviour?

Once I use a Clipping Mask on a layer is the entire document covered in a mask?
And/or is all the artwork from then on inside the mask?
I've read about how to add and how to remove art from a mask. I've read about how to make and release and lots of other things.
So, then I went and found a lesson that contained the use of a Clipping Mask.
I am suppose to Select the main shape and "just" copy it and move it down (doesn't say rather to Paste in front or back but I assumed in back ~ not that it has mattered thus far)
However, while making the main shape I used Gradient Mesh and used an Offset to create a "replica" and so when I go to Select the main shape the mesh is selected and so when I Paste (in back ~ seems most logical) and then move it down the details such as the colors of the Gradient and other such things are visible in front ~ ??
So, I have been trying to abate my problem in lots of different ways.
I have tried using the Pen tool to draw behind the main shape, I've tried making a New Layer and placing it above and below and inbetween the main shape layer, I've tried adding the artwork to the Mask ... I've tried everything I can think of and I've been through many an article in the manual and FAQ's to no avail.
I suppose, what I think I need to know ... is, how ... how on earth do I draw behind this main shape? Am I not able to do it because I am not getting behind the Mask?
I have been trying to and a layer mask to my image. When I go to unmask my image it wont work it shows it in the layer mask thumbnail but not in the real image.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up a brand new iMac with CS5.5. I had just gotten vaguely familiar with CS5 on my laptop, and I was hoping to simply copy and paste my Keyboard Shortcuts, Preferences, and Workspace files into the same folders on the new computer. Alas, the file setups are somewhat different.
What I can't figure out is WHERE these programs actually save these types of Presets to. They seem to be able to access my "old" files from if I drop them into certain folders through the Applications menu (see list below) but when I try to save a new Workspace or Keyboard Shortcut list, these files seem to disappear into a magical hidden folder that I cannot find.
To reiterate - below are the only locations for shortcuts/workspaces/preferences that I can find (via the Applications folder) and while the programs will read my presets from them, but they are not saving new presets to these locations:
Keyboard Shortcuts
PS - will read from, but not save to, Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5.5/Locales/en_US/Support Files/Shortcuts/Mac
AI - will also read from, but not save to, Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5.5/Locales/en_US/Support Files/Shortcuts/Mac
ID - will also read from, but not save to, Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5.5/Locales/en_US/Support Files/Shortcuts/Mac
Workspaces
PS - will read from, but not save to, Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5.5/Locales/en_US/Additional Presets/Mac/Workspaces
AI - will read from, but not save to, Applications/Adobe Illustrator CS5.5/Presets/en_US/Workspaces

None of my CS2 presets will load in CS3. I would like to use CS3 with its new features but I would have to make all new brushes and actions, and I have thousands of each. Is there any way to get CS3 to load them?
Edit: Just a note, they don't even show up in the load dialog. Neither do a few folders (Such as ones under "C:Program FilesAdobe" where the only one that appears to be in there is "Adobe Photoshop CS3" when there is in fact about 10 other folders)
