View 2 RepliesSuddenly, as in this never happened before, I can't copy and convert my .cr2 files from my camera into my Lightroom catalog. It says that the file type is not recognized. I restarted with no change, then downloaded the 4.4 update and it still doesn't work. Here is the name of one of the files I want to import. _mg_8765.cr2
I'm on Creatie Cloud and have an older Macbook Pro running ios 10.8.3.
I saw a technique in Ps for enhancing the colours of a sunset using a circular mask on an adjustment curve. They then inverted the mask to only show the colour adjustments. I'm wondering if I can recreate this within PP. From playing with it, I can't yet see how so I just through I'd ask here. The video I was watching for this technique is here.

I have been doing some night time photography and occasionally have images in which I apply some heavy noise reduction and sharpening. I am looking for a way to recall all of the settings in the Detail tab.
I don't want to apply this set of adjustments on all of my images as I import them—just a few specific images after importing.
Can I do this in LR 4.2?
Does anyone have any advice on what Unsharp Mask settings I should use? Percent, Threshold and Radius? I use settings of 75% on images taken with my digital camera, but what about Theshold and Radius? Where do they come in?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have previously imported some raw (.raf) files into Lightroom and done my adjustments - i then saved as jpegs and took all files out of the lightroom dashboard.
I now want to go back into a raw (.raf) file that I have re-imported into Lightroom, and apply the same settings that I did previously to the jpegs before.
Obviously, on re-importing the raw files, they have reverted to the original settings and not the jpeg settings that I saved at.
I have recently purchased a new camera (Canon 600D) and am shooting in RAW+jpg.
I make many on-camera adjustments (exposure, creative effects etc) which apply to the JPG fine. Is there a way to apply these to the RAW image also (within LR) without manually changing all the settings using the 'develop' module? For example, can I right-click on a RAW image and select 'Apply camera settings' or something along those lines?
On a side note, is there a way to ask lightroom to simply use the JPG version rather than the RAW version (on an individual photo basis)? Lightroom as I currently have it set up uses teh JPG only as a preview.
Not sure if it is relevent but I am using the latest Lightroom 3.x on Vista.
I had taken a photoshop class and learned that there were some "works most of the time" settings for unsharp mask in photoshop. Unfortunetly for me, I not only lost the book that came with the class I've forgotten the settings entirely. If there is a thread pertaining to this or if someone can help me out I would appreciate it. I did look and even searched (twice!) first, but with the wealth of info here I may have passed by it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedToday is the first day with Lightroom 3, where I have over 200 photos from an event, that I am walking through each photo. I am in the develop module and I am setting the color label to red or blue. What seems to be constantly (not every time) happening is when I click the color for the label, LR will move to the next photo, but not apply the color label.
As I write this I'm trying it out to notice a pattern. What I see is photo 1, I click on the red label and the photo is labeled red and LR moves to photo 2. I click on the red label and LR does not set any color label and moves to photo 3.
Another thing that happened is I was then at photo 3 and clicked on the blue label. LR did not set the blue label but jumped to photo 4 and put the blue label on that photo
is there any way to prevent lightroom 4 to apply auto settings to the image after it is returned from treatment in a plugin? Typically, I would launch SFX or other plugins from LR4 by specifying "submit a copy of the image with LR adjustments". When finished, the result image is returned to LR4 and auto settings are applied to it, as if it was freshly imported. This is very annoying. I have every time to reset all settings manually (exposure, whites, blacks, etc) one by one. Is there a way to treat plugin returns differently from importing images from a disk/card?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using PE10, and usually start with the "Quick Edit" tab to do a "Smart Fix" where I can select a desirable fix. Sometimes I additionally do Shadow adjustments and/or Highlight adjustments, but not much else. Then go to "Full" edits.
- "Enhance - Auto Contrast" does tonal corrections as I understand. However I usually see no difference after doing this. Is that because when I did the Smart Fix, it is essentially doing the Auto Contrast as one of its adjustments? If so, is it just a waste of time for me to do the Auto Contrast if I have previously done a Smart Fix?
- As the last step, I usually use "Enhance - Unsharp Mask" on my photos with Amount = 70, Radius = 2.0, and Threshold = 0. Are those reasonable numbers? I understand that beginners tend to over-sharpen their photos. I've played around with various values, and these numbers seem to have worked for me, but would just like other opinions since I don't have that professional eye as to what is a great photo. I make sure that I zoom in to print size or more when looking at the results of sharpening.
I'm using Adobe Lghtroom v4.0.
Is it possible to export the settings of each photo with the photo itself. Like. I want to save the adjustments (clarity, exposure, higlights etc) I made for each photo in some text file or within photo's metedata maybe. Reason being, later if I want to reproduce the same effect on same or different photo I can do so. (I'm not talkin about copy option where it copies the settings and you can apply to the oher pics.)
I've got around 400 images in photoshop cs...I basically need to reduce each image size, then alter the canvas size, and save.
My question is, is there a way to do that set of actions once, and then have it automatically applied to the other 399?
I have several Lightroom catalogs from over the years, many of the from older versions and many of the catalogs contain develop settings from photos I have on my current catalog.
The thing is I have some picture folders with rates, develop setings and more things from an old catalog that I want to transfer to my new catalog from Lightroom 4.4. I want to transfer just the settings and rates, nothing else, i already have the photos, sometimes with many photos rated and developed.
Is there a way to transfer just the settings and rates of a certain set of photos from one catalog to another one?
Every so often when I save for web and try to change the resolution to something else it doesn't update. CS5 had an apply button, but there isn't one CS6. I find that I have to enter different numbers a few times until it finally updates and I can save.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if there is a site where I can download video/photo masks for my projects. I'm definitely not good at trying to create them myself in PSP, and there are hardly any in the "mask frame" in VS4 (I haven't installed VS 5 yet).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had no problem working with and feathering masks in Designer Pro 9. However the upgrade to Pro X9 has made "improvements" that I cannot figure out.
I have a photo in which I want to blur and darken the background while leaving the subject person clear and bright.
I used the mask painter tool to mask out the person, so far so good. I used the picture editing tools to blur and de-bright the unmasked portion. So far, so good.
The result had (of course) too hard an edge between the masked and unmasked portions of the image.
How can I soften (feather) the edge of the mask? OR how else should I be trying to accomplish this task?
To repeat, I could do this just fine in Pro 9, but in Pro X9 I just can't seem to find out how to do it.
When I use layer masks on photographs it tends to fade parts of the photo... why is this?
View 2 Replies View Relateda photo in xara is actually a bitmap filled shape, so if you just try applying another fill, eg linear, it will replace the bitmap completely
so what you need to do is draw a rectangle over the photo - apply the fill you want to the rectangle - and then give it a transparency of type hue
now come the reservations - hue transparency has no affect on black/white/grey-tones, so you may not end up with an even fill as you can see from the example
you may wish to contone the bitmap first... the underlying color will still affect the fill to some extent... as can be seen from the green band in the examples..
the chosen fill ramp gives a rather nice effect on the original I think, but is a bit extreme on the contones...
[I find it useful for adding gradient color to raster line art, sometimes quicker than going into a bitmap editor and painting on color whilst preserving transparency...]
Knowing that X5 won't apply effects to 48bit images unless I convert them to 24bit first, If I apply a mask first over to the 48bit image, then apply an effect to that, will this work? or do I still need to convert my image to 24bit?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with using my layer masks. I can use the masks that are hidden (shown with black screen) and apply them with the white brush, but I cant get white or shown masks to be taken off with the black brush. Sometimes, not always I have trouble adjusting the opacity of white masks. I was playing around with actions I downloaded and after applying three actions to a photo, elements froze on me. I read about trashing preferences, I dont know what that does or means but I tried to hit cntrol alt shift when photoshop was opening and nothing happened. When it first opens it shows I can install the new inspiration browser ( i dont know what that is either) thinking it was a required update I tried to update and it gave me an error message, something about the installer has been mis-configured.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI’m a long time Photoshop user but recently picked up LR4 to try to fine tune my workflow. I’ve noticed that after importing new files (RAW, I haven’t tried with jpg) into my library as I scroll through them (1-up, not in grid) the preview comes up and then after a second or so the WB changes to a much colder image.
Does LR4 initially preview at specific settings and then change to the individual image settings? Even if so, the final images seem very cool and I feel like I have to up the temp more than I should have to. My previous workflow was to sort in Bridge and then use ACR to import to Photoshop. I feel like I did much less tweaking of my WB this way. I feel like I’m starting from square one with LR4.
I just bought LR5 yesterday. I own Photoshop CS5. Normally I open my images in LR, make my raw adjustments and then open in CS5 for my creative editing. When I do that now from LR5, the adjustments revert back to the original settings when opened in CS5. I downloaded and installed the new Camera RAW 8.1... it didn't make a difference.
LR5 is useless to me if the adjustments don't transfer over to CS5 as I ALWAYS use finish in CS5.
I'm going through tons of photos and applying keywords to the overall events, so maybe as an example it is a bday party so I select all of those images and tag them all as such. Next, I am trying to tag individual people within all of the tagged bday party images, and as I'm sure you are aware, it is very tedious.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince "upgrading" to lightroom 5.2 I've been plauged by it applying whatever I do to the image I'm on as well as the next image. The second image is not chosen - I only have one image selected. Whether I'm trying to do a correction, a crop, give it a number of stars, edit in Photoshop - it always affects two images at once.

Camera is a Canon EOS 70D, working with Raw files.Just noticed that when applying a range of changes to an image - Tone / Presence / Noise / Crop / Sharpening (and others)When exporting the image
- export to JPG, TIFF and PSD works ok, all changes applied correctly
- export to Raw and DNG do not include changes applied to image - original image is exported
Not a show stopper as I have usable formats, but would like all file formats available for flexibility.
I have been using LR for a while and randomly started having an odd problem. After importing some images I was flipping through them in the Library Module and the loading animation was coming up across the bottom. After the loading animation stops, the colours willsaturate or the exposure will change slightly. If I go to the develop module, the history only includes the import and no sliders have been repositioned. Please check out the before/after pictures for clarification (hard to notice but the table cloth changes hue and saturation). I have default settings on quick develop, so it's not that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA long time ago, when I was using Photoshop Elements I found a plug-in that made it possible to work with stacks as a unit.
If I labeled the top image in the stack that label was applied to all the images in the stack; then when I sorted the images, the stack remained in tact; instead of just the top image, with the label showing up. I could also label the top image in a stack with flaga and, for example quickly delete all the image with an "X". Otherwise is seems the only option is to open each stack, by Ctrl-clicking the number in the upper left corner, that opens the stack; with all the images selected, then click the star labels I want to apply to all the images in the stack.
