My problem is that i had to re-instate windows xp plus all my software and since doing this some of my files on my external HD will not open i try and i get the error message "could not complete the request because the file is locked. use the properties command in windows explorer to unlock the file" i dont know how to get the files viewable again photoshop opens ok it just doesnt open the pictures ....
I opened up a few files in Photoshop 7, and when I was done working on them, they wouldn't save saying they were locked. I closed the files without saving them, and then selected them in the folder, right clicked, went to properties, and unchecked "read only." I was able to work on them and save them after that, but then I noticed they had disappeared from the folder. I have gone to folder options and checked "show hidden files." I have searched for them. When I click on the shortcut for them, it says the file is no longer there and it is not in my recycle bin. Have I lost these files for good?
Trying to create my first animated gif. I have 8 .ico files that i converted to .png to open them. once all are open i try to combine into one file with 8 layers but am unable to do it!?!? If I click on the main layer in any file it shows as locked and says "Indicates layer is partially locked".
When I export a jpg file from my laptop with windows 7, the file has a lock on it. I don't have the drawing locked but the file shows up locked when I try to email or view and the clarity of the jpg is fuzzy. I don't have this problem when working on my computer with windows xp. Also when the jpg is  locked, it does not read on my mobile phone. What do I have set wrong?
Also on my XP computer when exporting the page is black but exports fine. I would rather see the file I am exporting, I have looked at all the settings but don't see why this is happening.
My ai files are constantly being locked by windows explorer. This means I am unable to delete or rename them. To try and resolve this I have disabled Win7 Indexing, turned off the preview pane and have tried ending the explorer process then restarting it (sometimes works). I don't know what else to try.
When I select multiple PS tabs and Publish them all to a pdf, the pdf file that is created has a small lock next to it UNLESS I select AutoCAD's default location (my documents). If I select a project folder and name the pdf whatever I want, it puts the small lock. If I let it put it wherever it wants, it doesn't.
Even if I change the default location through Publish Options, it will add the lock. I need to be able to select different folders every time so I need the option of selecting where to put it.
How to stop it from making files with the lock icon on them?
I"ve just recently upgraded to CDGraphics Suite X5 (from 12), along with Windows 7 and M.Office 2010. When trying to export jpg's I've got 2 problems:
a) Jpg files that I"m now exporting seem to have so many more "options" for exporting and are automatically exporting colours as CMYK. Some of the software programs that I use (for programming digital signage) require jpg files in RGB. Is there a way to set this as a default instead of having to change this everytime I export? (note that I have "checked" the embed colour profile option for my US Web Coated Pantones).Â
b) The default for exporting is also set at "custom" - should I always be changing this to either medium or large, or can I just leave it at custom. Often I am just emailing jpg's for approval purposes, so I don't always need large file sizes. Does custom set it to the largest possible file size?
I found a tab at the top of the export window that says "Load Presets" and lists for example "low quality jpg.xml" what is this for?
c) when I look at my jpg files in my documents folders they appear "locked" with a little lock on them. Old jpg files created in CD12 don't have this little "lock" icon on them. I have checked the properties and see that these files give full access for modification etc, so I can't figure out why they may be locked.
I am using photoshop V7. what file I load the "Background Layer" is locked. When I try Help it says select "Layers Window" and click "Layers Locked"... The problem is, only selections not grayed out are; New, Duplicate, Fill, or Adjustment... all other items are GRAYED OUT.. I checked preferences, but find no reference to the subject.
I scanned a photo into PS and then tried to work with it but find my cursor changes to a round circle with a line through it. I can't use any tools on it but I can bring up another photo and everything is normal with that photo.
After changing preferences, plug in views, etc I get a message the file is locked and changes won't be saved. Even after unlocking, adding myself as user with read/write privileges, changes are not saved when PS is closed.
I am creating an image in Photoshop CS6. I've saved it a few times but now it's telling me the file is locked. I resaved it as something else and now the original file has vanished! Â I looked at the properties of the file before it vanished and clicked the security tab and it told me I didn't have permission to view it and I had to be an administrative user, which I am. It gave the option of giving myself permission and said the previous owner may no longer have permission but there was no previous owner listed (obviously because there never was one). Â These files are very important, I can't risk them just vanishing or locking me out. Why is this happening and how can I stop it?
I've recently switched from 6 to 7. When I open an image the layer is locked and I can't unlock it (greyed out). This prevents me from adding the drop shadows I need to add. Any answers out there, please?
I try to open my Photoshop 7.0 I get two error messages. I don't understand why I am getting these messages, or how to fix them. The error messages appear at startup during the initializing of the Photoshop 7.0, these messages state:
Error Message 1: Can not find workspace folder.
Error Message 2: Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked. Use the Properties command in Windows Explorer to unlock the file.
There is no Properties command under Windows Explorer, there is one under Photoshop 7.0, but nowhere does it say "unlock file". I have seen a similar problem for the CS2 in the FAQ section, so I tried to use that fix, but it did not work. I have uninstalled & reinstalled, cleared cache, de-fragged, and unhidden the files ...
a client has asked me to alter a graphic, it's a gif file and when I open it shows as one layer. It shows as partia;y locked. clicking thepadlock icon does not unlock it
I was sent a jpg image via email, made a correction and put it on our network for another colleague to open. When she tried to open it, the following message below came up and I can’t rectify the problem and open it on my colleague’s machine.
Everytime I launch it the programme activates the expired demo version and won't let me enter the serial number of the programme. Any ideas? Is there is fix available. I couldn't find anything on the adobe site and tech support sent me an auto reply which mentioned within 48 hours and I don't have 48 hrs.
Adobe production premium? I have this for windows. what if i wanted it for mac? If i wanted it on both windows and mac i'm guessing that would mean buying it again fully as another license? Or could it be used as the "secondary install" of the application? (I would keep this PC too). Either way, is it possible to get the program as another download using the same serial code, but one for PC (which i have), and one for mac?So i'd have one serial code but with two installers, one pc, one mac, basically.
I'm trying to install a plug-in for Photoshop CS3. It's a DDS File Type Plug-in. When I run it, Photoshop gives me this errer message:"could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document" how to install and use this plug-in
I am using Photoshop CS2 with Windows XP. Why are all the photos that I import into Photoshop have the layer locked. I tried to save them both as .psd and as .jpeg. But, it makes no difference. In the layer pallette, the layer is marked as locked but the icons at the top are all grayed out.
got my new computer---AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ CPU, 4 GB RAM, two 1 TB SATA hard disks (logical drives C:, D:, and E: on first physical hard disk; drives F: and G: and the second). Operating system is Windows XP SP2.
When I installed Photoshop CS3 10.0.1, I did not enter the serial number immediately in order to enjoy the CS3 Extended trial period (my serial number is for CS3 Standard). Eventually the trial period expired, and I entered my serial number. No problems until here.
Today I deactivated the Photoshop copy on the old machine and activated it on the new one, and that's when the problem started. Now Photoshop won't work anymore. It worked fine prior to activation.
Or actually, it i does work ... but only when drive C: is selected as the primary scratch disk which under Windows obviously is a bad choice. But Photoshop won't let me choose anything different. Whenever I try to deselect C: from the list of active scratch disks (remove the tick mark) or to change the order of active scratch disks so that C: is not the topmost anymore then Photoshop will refuse to re-launch.
Instead, upon re-launch it will display a message box (with 'Adobe Photoshop CS3' as the title bar and an OK button as the only option) saying, 'Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked. Use the "Properties" command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file.' Of course, it doesn't bother to say what file it is talking about, or what 'locked' is supposed to mean. Explorer's 'Property' command does not provide any means to 'lock' or to 'unlock' a file. To get out of this situation, I have to delete Photoshop's preferences file which leaves me where I started, i. e. with drive C: as the primary scratch disk. I can always add more drives to the list of active scratch disks. But I must not remove C: from the top of that list or Photoshop won't work anymore.
But I want Photoshop to use G: as the scratch disk. It worked fine that way until I carried out the $#!%@ activation procedure!
I have received an illustration as a tif. image. The background is white, though what I need is a transpraent background. I cannot manipulte the image since it is locked.
What is/are the benefits of having every background layer of a newly opened document locked? I have never come across a need for it and wish it wasn't. It only means I have to create a new layer and import an image to that. Or, double click the layer to unlock it. Is there a way to permanently eliminate that "preference?" It's like entering a room with your shoes tied together.
I am using CS4. I have a partially locked layer. It is not the background layer. I partially locked it myself but forgot how I did it. How do I unlock it?
