View 1 RepliesUsing CS6 for web mock ups - so lots of vector shapes. And now there are 2 ways to do a stroke, 2 ways to do a fill - in the bar at the top or the old effects dialogue box, but gradients and shadows etc are still just in the old dialogue box, not in the top bar.
Is it me or is this incredibly bad app development? Bolt on some new functionality and don't bother about the old stuff so it just becomes one big mess.Starting to use Sketch now, and really hoping they keep working on it so it makes PS redundant -

Unalbe to use eyedropper tool to pick up stroke attribute from one shape to use in fill of another shape. I shift click with my eyedropper tool on stroke but does not transfer that color to my fill color of other shape. Fill color shows correctly in tools panel but not in shape or control panel.

I've looked at the brush options but am unsure of what will make a difference. Is there a way of devoting more ram to the program when I'm using it?
Is there an alternative way of adding the same stroke to the actual fill of a shape? At the moment all of my fill colors are block colors rather than having a kind of chalk / pastel texture that I can get with the brush. Basically, I would like to fill shapes with textured color rather than flat color.
I traced an image earlier, expanded it then wanted to change the line colour. For some reason I couldn't get this to work even though I've done it in the past. So, I used the magic wand to select the line then dragged it into my new document and changed the line colour.
Now, I want to change the fill on certain sections, however when I change the stroke it changes the colour of the line and when I change the fill it changes the color of the line.
I have a shape with a black stroke and green fill. I have a white line segment over it. How do I get it so that the end of the line segment doesn't show over the black stroke of the object? If I try to put the line segment behind the object, then the object fill hides it completely.
I'm new to illustrator and I've tried to search for an answer but I don't know the best way to accomplish what I want to do. Seems like some combination of transparency or knockout groups and I've read a bit about this and can't figure out what I need to do.
correct way to make a circular outline on a circle object, that has some white space in between? Did it a bootleg way, but am afraid the spacing won't be exact..

1. Please auto switch between Stroke fill and fill when I select text. 99% of my time is spent only using fill on text. I would rather manually switch to Stroke when I want to add a fill to it rather having to switch to fill each time.
2. Same for Stroke, from point 1.
3. Add an auto layer for Guides. When I am using the Scissors tool, the majority of the time I don't want to cut my guides up, I would rather instead cut up the shape below it. Again manually changing the layer to select the guide would be preferable.
4. I personally never use the Eraser tool and I switch to the Scissors Tool. Without fail every time I launch Illustrator I have to switch from the Eraser Tool too the Scissors tool. Please add cookies or something so I don't have to always switch to the Scissors Tool.
5. Move "Align to Pixel" toggle somewhere outside a file menu.
how is it possible to simply crop in an circularelliptical shape?
View 12 Replies View RelatedSo i've got a stroke in a circular path. I use the scissor tool and cut a segment of it out. Now, i want to move one of the end points up and have the anchor points after it follow the movement to keep the smooth line. I think Flash had a tool like this. It allowed you to manipulate one point that would affect the whole path depending on how extreme or what direction you went.

I work on line art and colorways for footwear, so the way I'm coloring these shapes and strokes break apart the different materials and pieces of the shoe.
While coloring line art, I work with Pantone spot colors as fills for closed path objects. I then have to manually apply that same color to the stroke, set the stroke to 0.5px weight, convert that spot stroke color to CMYK, and add 15% to the K value.
I found some code in an older post for applying the actively selected object's fill color to the stroke, but I'm having but I'm having trouble with the next step of figuring out how to take that spot stroke color and convert it to a CMYK build that I can then add 15% black to. Is this something that's even possible? I've spent about an hour playing with the script and have only had luck matching the fill color or turning the stroke white.
I need to place a circle selection around a ring shape in a gif graphic and then delete the background outside of the ring shape. The gif I am working with is a square shape with a green background and on that is a white circle shape with lettering going around it and a small pic inside the circle shape. I want to only use the white circle shape with the text going around it and the pic inside and discard the green square background appearing outside the ring.

How to convert path Stroke to fill?
e.g. : if stroke thickness is 5pt, now i want to convert stroke to fill.
Instead of having to click OK to see the result then, if not happy, having to backtrack and try a variation any number of times, could we see the document updating as we change parameters in the dialogues of Stroke and Fill commands? This could be an option that the user can disable

I'm running Autocad 2013 Civil 3d, when I open a particular drawing the cursor turns to a circular shape as if it is downloading something, but it is actually not loading anything. This circular cursor does not let you do anything with the drawing, you just have to keep hitting esc until it gives you a fatal error message that says "FATAL ERROR: Cannot write to undo file (probably disk full)" and it kicks you out of autcad. How to get rid of this ciruclar cursor?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI draw a line with the pen tool, right click and then 'stroke' the pen line with a brush (for example). I imagine I've done this successfully thousands of times but for some reason it just isn't working today (or yesterday actually!). When I right click then go down to 'stroke' nothing happens at all.
However it does work if I go into the 'paths' palette, right click on 'work path' and stroke the pen line with the brush.
I create a lot of 'cartoon type" images in Photoshop using Stroke. After upgrading to from CS2 to CS5 I noticed that when I use stroke to outline my images, the stroke is jagged. This was not an issue in CS2. I have pasted an image below with just a simple shape. The shape is smooth, the stroke is jagged.
This below image is a bit small but you can see the difference in Stroke, the shoe from CS2 is smooth, the mountain from CS5 is jagged.
One can stroke a Path with the Brush Tool, Pencil Tool, Burn Tool, etc., which affects pixels of a targeted pixel Layer.
Shapes can have solid colour strokes, gradient strokes and pattern strokes which are part of the Shape definition.
Am I alone in thinking that it would be useful for Shapes to be able to have their stroke defined as a Brush (and possibly other tools) which doesn't change the pixels of another Layer, and instead remains an editable property of the Shape's appearance?
I have created a shape using the Shape tool and have applied a 1px inside stroke to the shape. The problem is that the stroke appears to be anti-aliased. I want it to be crisp. It is actually a straight line.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to remove a circular shape from a rectangle in illustrator, the retangles width is 10px and the diameter of the circle is 13px, I centre the circle ontop of the rectangle ( or I appear to) but when I use the Shape mode tool minus front, the circle is no longer centred ( see images).
I have tried switching off smart guides and snap to grid and am still having the same problem.
In the above image you can see once I have divided the 13px circle from the rectangle it has moved off to one side.
Also when I am trying to manually place the circle ( rather than using the centre guides ) I can only move it by a large degree it alway moves further than I move the mouse, could this be because of a pixel grid? I do not think I am using this. ( can see in the above image where I am trying to place the circle and when I let go of the mouse, the grey circle is where it lands.
From the 2 images below you can see that there is a 1px difference on either side of the extracted circle I was trying to get centered.
I should mention that the 'Align to pixel grid' in the transform menu is inactive when I am trying to do this, as I initially thought that this may be the cause of my problems, but it made no difference.
