Photoshop :: Transparent Stroke Overlap
Jun 13, 2007
I am currently working on a very simple illustrator project and I have run into the following issue.
In the image below, there is an object with a green fill and semi-transparent stroke. Another stroke (Also semi transparent) is overlapping the first stroke a bit and, as one would expect, the two objects appear darker where they overlap.
Is there any way to prevent this? Basically, I have two stroked objects that share a border in a small area and where they overlap, the strokes are darker due to the semi-transparency. Is there a way to keep the overlapping part one uniform color?
Unless I am mistaken, there is no way to have one point have 2 lines coming off of it. If there is, I could make one stroke for both objects... If not, I need to find a way to have the overlapping area look as if it has one stroke, not two. Or get the stoke onto it's own layer...

I just got an Intuos5 and I'm not very experienced with the Photoshop settings regarding tablet usage. I want to replicate the effect of drawing on paper with a marker, without lifting my pen. If you go back and forth over the same spot 15 times on a piece of paper with a marker without (lifting the marker), that spot will be much darker than if you make one stroke. I understand that in Photoshop I can lift my pen off the tablet and do the same stroke 15 times, but logistically, that just doesn't work with the way I draw.
Basically, I'm wondering if there's a way to make it so opacity is purely dependent on how many times a certain spot is covered WITHOUT LIFTING MY PEN.I know there are controls to switch brush opacity to coincide with pen pressure, but I don't want to destroy my new tablet by carving into it to have a pure black stroke.
To demonstrate what I mean by this, here's an extremely crude example in which the left represents how photoshop works for me now, versus how I'd like it to work. Notice how going over the same spot within the same stroke, those intersections are darkened.

If I make a rectangle, add a stroke border around it, is there a way to make the area of the rectangle clear/transparent but keep the stroke boarder 100% visible?
This can be easily done in InDesign by just picking (none) as a color but I dont see an obvious way to do it in photoshop.

What I'm trying to do is give the blue box a transparent stroke that will "cut through" the red boxes and show the background underneath, whatever that may be ...white, another color, or a photo.
I can easily achieve this when I give it a white stroke. It'll look like this:
When I change to a background color other than white or even a photo however, I end up with this problem:
How do I make it so that I have a transparent border (not white) around the blue box? Which effectively cuts a "transparent stroke" (space) between the parts where the blue and red boxes intersect?

I'm creating text that will be printed on a deep gray to black tshirt.
I created text, added an offset path to it with a gradient, and a deep gray color fill on top, achieving the gradient stroke. However, I'm not exactly sure what color the shirt itself will be, other than deep gray to black. And I didn't want the deep gray/black fill in my text to appear and look awkward on the shirt. Unless that is something I shouldn't be considered about.
To be safe, how would you create transparent text with a gradient stroke? I'm using Illustrator CS5.

Is there a way or an option I am missing to convert my regular paths to a path stroked with a brush profile, while maintining the proper stroke width?
For instance, I have a regular line with a stroke of 5 and then add a brush profile, which then converts the original stroke to whatever the brush was made at.

As an old scholar (been using PShop since Beta 1.0) I have never been a fan of tabs -esp as I often drag/compare elements from multiple files. In CS6 I see some inconsistent behavior with palettes. The active file can now obscure the toolbar and the palettes docked at far right. Strangely, other palettes (not docked) remain visible above the image.
The same occurs with other open files, so that I can have the tool bar blocked by files I'm not even working on. I have set my workspace to mimic CS5 as I'm not fond of the newer interface. This odd overlap impacts my workflow, as it takes time to maneuver the various image frames so as not to obscure palettes. Is this SOP, a bug, or is there a prefs setting that I broke? (see attached image).

In CS5 I use Photomerge to produce a panorama. However, how do I create a panorama where there is inadquate overlap between the individual images. CS5 does not have an Interactive layout option permit the movement of images which would then click together. There must a way, only I don't know it. Also in Photomerge if a particular lay option does not work how can I quickly try a different layout option without closing down Photomerge and then opening it up again?

I have a shape with a black stroke and green fill. I have a white line segment over it. How do I get it so that the end of the line segment doesn't show over the black stroke of the object? If I try to put the line segment behind the object, then the object fill hides it completely.
I'm new to illustrator and I've tried to search for an answer but I don't know the best way to accomplish what I want to do. Seems like some combination of transparency or knockout groups and I've read a bit about this and can't figure out what I need to do.

Texturing an .obj file with multiple maps keeps getting overlap when I paint on the figure.
I am very new to 3D Painting in Photoshop but I am nominally knowledgeable of Photoshop in general for 2D work. I exported the Genesis figure from DAZ Studio into an .obj file and painted on it in Photoshop 5.5.
When I paint on his face, other marks show up on his torso and thigh and eyes, even. It is like all of the diffuse maps are "stacked upon one another" (though not in layers, just one one layer.)

I find that as long as I do not lift the pen off the tablet I can overlap strokes without changing the value of the strokes I've already made. However, once I lift the pen off the tablet and try to continue my work, inevitably I end up going over some of the previous strokes, and where the strokes overlap, the value of the paint doubles, creating a nasty blotchy effect.

I am trying to overlap two images but one is really dominating visually and is also really busy. I'd like to 'fog out' the dominating picture without losing a lot of information from it. I think making the colors less vivid would enhance the colors of the other image, but maybe there's more I can do? The images are biological and I am working on a potential scientific journal cover page, so I can't just remove things or distort to the point where it is cartoonish. I know nothing about image processing, so I feel like I'm probably complete unaware of simple methods that could do amazing things I was unaware of above and beyond just toning down contrast or saturation.

I'm trying to figure out a way to automate a simple, yet repetative process I do countless times a day. Ideally, I'd like to tie it to a keystroke to speed up my workflow.
I work on line art and colorways for footwear, so the way I'm coloring these shapes and strokes break apart the different materials and pieces of the shoe.
While coloring line art, I work with Pantone spot colors as fills for closed path objects. I then have to manually apply that same color to the stroke, set the stroke to 0.5px weight, convert that spot stroke color to CMYK, and add 15% to the K value.
I found some code in an older post for applying the actively selected object's fill color to the stroke, but I'm having but I'm having trouble with the next step of figuring out how to take that spot stroke color and convert it to a CMYK build that I can then add 15% black to. Is this something that's even possible? I've spent about an hour playing with the script and have only had luck matching the fill color or turning the stroke white.

Can I overlap clips without a transition? Here's what I'm trying to do (VS Pro X3) - I have about 30 clips that I'm putting together. All of the clips need trimming at both ends. With Sony Vegas 9, I only had to trim the beginning of each clip because then I could overlap the clips to "trim" the END of each clip (the clip previous to the overlapping clip). It appears to me that with VS Pro X3 I have to trim both ends of each clip and then put them all together end-to-end because when I overlap them, the overlapping clip doesn't actually overlap the previous clip on the timeline, but both clips transition into one another. What I want is for the overlapping clip to truly overlap the previous clip, effectively ending that clip at the point of overlap. If I don't want transitions, must I trim all clips on both ends and put them together with no overlaps?
And BTW I don't use my Sony Vegas 9 (Platinum Pro Pack) any more because the program has a bug that makes mp4 rendering impossible, and other renders very sketchy.

I have a GIS parcel file that I have connected to. The file works fine, but when I change the linetype from continuous to a center or dash-dot linetype I have trouble. The parcels are all closed polygons so everywhere the parcels touch, the parcel lines overlap and the linetype is very disjointed. Instead of looking like a "center" line, it looks like a solid line with a radom gap here and there.

I have an object that I applied Gaussian blur to and it extends the boundaries. It is on top of a tan object, I need to "shave" the excess blur off to make it a clean and line up with my tan object. What is the most efficient way to this. In PS I would creat a selection around the tan object, then invert the selection and hit delete on the blur layer. what is the equivalent to that in AI?

Check out the first 45 seconds of this video to get an idea of what I'm asking about:
I'd like to do as she did when listing off the items that will be needed. Rather than stringing video clips together of each item by itself, I want it to have the same look--to have each item appear one after the other. To me, it looks like each clip of each item was layered on top of the original video of the first pair of leggings.

As when drawing cartoons... example:
- Draw two circles & fill them with the same color.
- Overlap them
- You see the overlapping line of the top circle.
- How do you hide just that part of the line so it appears as one object of the same color
- while retaining the overall object outline.

I am trying to find the best way to make the wall/roof shown below. I have experimented with the normal route of using walls and roofs with no luck, then I tried a conceptual mass, then I tried model in place component which is how I made the model below and that worked to get the exterior form I need, but I cant void the interior part of the crossing forms so I can finish the floor plan on the interior. I need to somehow erase the portion of the two buildings where they overlap so I dont have the interior wall of the smaller building. I use revit architecture 2010.
