The Auto Select Layer/Group feature of the move tool can be really handy when you have a ton of layers. But it also drives me crazy when I forget to turn it off!
Is there a hotkey to toggle it off and on? Ideally, I'd like to press-and-hold to turn Auto Select on, but once the key is released, it would turn off.
I know this discussion title is a bit murky, but the problem is a bit odd. I have Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2. In this version, I will activate the Select Tool, check Auto-Select: Layer, check Show Transform Controls, and then while using the Select Tool I will drag to create a rectangle to select multiple layers with content within the specified area.
Unfortunately, this action only works when I begin the selection from outside of the canvas area. If started from within the canvas area, no rectangle will appear, it will show me a measurement of my selection size, and then no layers will be selected upon release.
This cannot be working as intended right? I mean multi-select dragging cannot be intended to only work when started outside of the canvas right? Is there some way to fix this issue? Is this a bug? See the images below for more information on this issue.
Wondering if theres a plugin/feature for asto highlighting (sort of a preselect object) as in photoshop.
I have kinda got used to this in PS but am hoping theres a PDN equivalent?
Is there a way to toggle the Gap select mode? I would like the gaps to not always be on.

Collect in Layer is a command in the Layers panel flyout. It seems so tiedious to have to select each layer manualy that you have selected already on the artboard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to adjust two D800 files simultaniously. Thus I select both images, toggle the Sync button to the Auto Sync state.
But, the adjustments done to the most selected image do not copy over to the other image, while this is the expected behaviour.

I'm experiencing the auto-select in Photoshop CS6 not working when it is checked and I click on different layers. It worked fine in 5.5, but I am now using PS CS6 cloud and it works only sporadically.

For instance, clicking on the text of a text layer used to select that layer, clicking on a shape selected the appropriate shape layer. Which setting did I use for that and where can I find it? View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I go to grab a set on my actual document with it selected in my layer palette...it drops right down to selecting the background layer or opens up my layer set and selects a layer within my layer set. I guess I'm not clicking the right spot but in my mind, Shouldn't it just move all the layers instead of randomly selecting some other layer that I didn't select?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use auto-select primarily when designing. I will often clicking and dragging a marquee box to select multiple objects. I immediately noticed that it is now selecting hidden layers as well, where it didn't before.
Is there a setting or way to change this? I am assuming as of now that this is a new change. They will still select even if the layers are locked so locking groups is not a solution for this.
Why is it that on some versions of cs6 when i select the "set foreground color" (or background), the color dialog pops up with the hex number selected allowing me to quickly ctrl+c it. However, on other computers - with the exact same copy of Photoshop (cloud based and fully updated) it does *not* auto select the hex number. I've looked through the settings to see if this is a feature that needs to be turned on/off but could not find it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using CS6 for a while now and one problem that I keep encountering is the auto-selection of shape layers. Trying to auto-select a layer that's within 10 pixels of a shape layer is impossible without having to zoom in. This is a little hard to explain without images... Cue image...
If you try to recreate the above image, where the black 20x20px rectangle is a shape and the red 38x38px rounded rectangle is rasterized pixels, you will see that auto-selecting the red rounded rectangle is impossible at 100%.
Is this intentional and just an issue for me? Selecting pixel layers in CS5 was never this annoying. It seems that shape layers have an invisible 10px area around them stopping you from selecting anything below them. This is so frustrating with pixel UI work.
i can't be the only one who thinks it's nuts that when 'auto-select > layers' is selected and i drag to select a bunch of layers, i also select layers that are turned off and/or locked, can i?i just confirmed that this IS not the case with CS6 -- locked or hidden layers are not selected upon dragging to select exposed layers.
is this a bug, or a bit of new functionality that i am failing to grasp? i did notice that in CC, on right-click there is the new option to "isolate layers", but this seems to just isolate & unclutter layers within the layers panel.

Is there a way to toggle the auto fade (i.e. turn of fade so it stays visible) of of the pinned toolbar when in the 'select other' command ? There is an option to toggle this under the constraint pinned toolbar but I can't see it for select other.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of skinning a character and I was wondering if Max had a feature/option/button that allows you to select all the verts that are currently being influenced by the particular bone you currently have selected? It seems like a feature like that would make setting up the blends between bones a lot easier then having to select all the verts in question each time and then additional verts that you are wanting to weight to.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAt my last job, the CAD manager there had certain blocks which, upon insertion, automatically selected the rotate command. i.e., as soon as you click to place the block, it was free rotating.
I've search for the answer, but everything just tells me how to put the rotate command inside the dynamic block, but I don't know how to make it "auto-jump" to that immediately upon insertion.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an image with 8 layers and i want to draw lines. So I make a new layer. While this layer is selected, i select the line tool and draw a line. Then, as I want to move this line, I select the move tool and try to move it. But instead of moving the line I just drew, photoshop automatically switches to my background layer (although i'm not sure it's defined as "background layer") and moves the entire content of the layer.
To see what actually happened, i hid each layer in the layer palette... And still... here was my line. (with all layers hidden, is it POSSIBLE to have anything?)
I tried to select my line and then, using the move tool, move it, but the message "could not move the selection because the selected area is empty"...
I was using these tool on a lot of images, because they often seemed to vastly improve them, making the colors pop on otherwise somewhat dull ones, and getting rid of unwanted color casts..
Later though I noticed that it is often at the cost of burning out hightlights in some areas beyond salvation.I also find shadow /highlight sometimes does this also.
Then I tried to protect some small areas with a mask before proceeding, but it seems that I can't find information on just painting a mask, but only videos with much more complex adjustment such as the Russel Crow or Lynda ones with maintaing hair detail while superimposing images, which is way beyond what I need in these cases.
If I try the wand to select and inverse I get unnatural looking divisions. Is it a matter of feathering to the right extent?
I have just moved from 7.0 to CS3 (and PC to Mac) and am currently trying to get to grips with the new features! Once which I love is the auto-align and auto-blend feature(s). My question is, is there any way to control how these features work? I have seen on some web sites people talk about 'fuzziness' sliders where you can control that if an object (pixels) appear in X% of the photos they should/shouldn't be included in the final image but I cannot find these.
My intention is to use these features to take photos of monuments and have the people who are moving about removed from the final image (I guess it's the auto-align that would do this.) I tried a test and took a number of photos at home but I kept moving one object around (a pen.) The pen appears in all the images but in a different location so it always appears in the final image. When I tried auto-align with a stack that included one image without the pen, the pen was removed from the final image. Given the first scenario (i.e. the object is in all the images but in a different location) is there any way of automatically removing it using auto-align or would this have to be a manual process? In the real world, it would be possible to take a photo of a monument with people in different locations but it would be much harder (or take a long time) to take one where at least one person was not in all the photos (there's always someone loitering.)
Yes, I'm probably the only person on the planet that wants this, but I liked how the Auto Tone auto adjusted the Exposure slider (ONLY!) and left all the other sliders at zero in the Lightroom 4 beta.
Is there a way to write a preset that returns that behavior?
If I recall correctly, before CS6, I could toggle tools just by keeping on hitting the particular shortcut key. Now I have use Shift + the particular tool.
if there is a way to just push the shortcut key repeatedly to toggle between tools?
