I'm experiencing the auto-select in Photoshop CS6 not working when it is checked and I click on different layers. It worked fine in 5.5, but I am now using PS CS6 cloud and it works only sporadically.
View 1 RepliesI know this discussion title is a bit murky, but the problem is a bit odd. I have Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2. In this version, I will activate the Select Tool, check Auto-Select: Layer, check Show Transform Controls, and then while using the Select Tool I will drag to create a rectangle to select multiple layers with content within the specified area.
Unfortunately, this action only works when I begin the selection from outside of the canvas area. If started from within the canvas area, no rectangle will appear, it will show me a measurement of my selection size, and then no layers will be selected upon release.
This cannot be working as intended right? I mean multi-select dragging cannot be intended to only work when started outside of the canvas right? Is there some way to fix this issue? Is this a bug? See the images below for more information on this issue.
Wondering if theres a plugin/feature for asto highlighting (sort of a preselect object) as in photoshop.
I have kinda got used to this in PS but am hoping theres a PDN equivalent?
After moving to Win 7 I re-installed CS5. And have forgotten how I managed to set something to "auto select the right layer". For instance, clicking on the text of a text layer used to select that layer, clicking on a shape selected the appropriate shape layer. Which setting did I use for that and where can I find it? Should have written it down...
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe Auto Select Layer/Group feature of the move tool can be really handy when you have a ton of layers. But it also drives me crazy when I forget to turn it off!
Is there a hotkey to toggle it off and on? Ideally, I'd like to press-and-hold to turn Auto Select on, but once the key is released, it would turn off.
I have "auto select" turned on for the Move Tool and I click on a layer. How can I get Photoshop's Layer palette to scroll what I selected? I'm having to scroll up and down a lot trying to find my highlighted layer.

I restarted my computer twice in case it was my computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I go to grab a set on my actual document with it selected in my layer palette...it drops right down to selecting the background layer or opens up my layer set and selects a layer within my layer set. I guess I'm not clicking the right spot but in my mind, Shouldn't it just move all the layers instead of randomly selecting some other layer that I didn't select?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use auto-select primarily when designing. I will often clicking and dragging a marquee box to select multiple objects. I immediately noticed that it is now selecting hidden layers as well, where it didn't before.
Is there a setting or way to change this? I am assuming as of now that this is a new change. They will still select even if the layers are locked so locking groups is not a solution for this.
Why is it that on some versions of cs6 when i select the "set foreground color" (or background), the color dialog pops up with the hex number selected allowing me to quickly ctrl+c it. However, on other computers - with the exact same copy of Photoshop (cloud based and fully updated) it does *not* auto select the hex number. I've looked through the settings to see if this is a feature that needs to be turned on/off but could not find it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using CS6 for a while now and one problem that I keep encountering is the auto-selection of shape layers. Trying to auto-select a layer that's within 10 pixels of a shape layer is impossible without having to zoom in. This is a little hard to explain without images... Cue image...
If you try to recreate the above image, where the black 20x20px rectangle is a shape and the red 38x38px rounded rectangle is rasterized pixels, you will see that auto-selecting the red rounded rectangle is impossible at 100%.
Is this intentional and just an issue for me? Selecting pixel layers in CS5 was never this annoying. It seems that shape layers have an invisible 10px area around them stopping you from selecting anything below them. This is so frustrating with pixel UI work.
i can't be the only one who thinks it's nuts that when 'auto-select > layers' is selected and i drag to select a bunch of layers, i also select layers that are turned off and/or locked, can i?i just confirmed that this IS not the case with CS6 -- locked or hidden layers are not selected upon dragging to select exposed layers.
is this a bug, or a bit of new functionality that i am failing to grasp? i did notice that in CC, on right-click there is the new option to "isolate layers", but this seems to just isolate & unclutter layers within the layers panel.
improve Photoshop CC, but this bug beaks my workflow to the point I can't use it.
Other than this critical bug, the software engineers behind Photoshop CC are doing a great job.
trying to upgrade Camera Raw to 6.7 on my windows 7(32) machine running CS5.1. without success. It now appears that I am not able to carry of any updates in CS5.1 either through the program update routine or by download. All programs seem to be working fine apart from this.
If I try using Help>Update Adobe Application Manager opens, goes through an apparent download of all the updates but I see little data stream comming in and then staps saying there is a download problem please try later.
If I dowload the update direct for the Adobe site the download is fine but when I run AdobePatchInstaller.exe to istall say Camera Raw 6.7 Adobe Application Manager opens and thinks for a little whlie before giving "an error installing the update"
I have tried Adobe support adviser but this was indicating "cpsid_90243r4: Error DW020 or DW050 occurs during installation - Creative Suite 5.5, Flash CS5.5, Flash Builder 4.5" which is apparently an error sometimes seen during initial installation.
Running Photoshop and the updates as administrator does not work.
Is there a way to toggle the auto fade (i.e. turn of fade so it stays visible) of of the pinned toolbar when in the 'select other' command ? There is an option to toggle this under the constraint pinned toolbar but I can't see it for select other.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of skinning a character and I was wondering if Max had a feature/option/button that allows you to select all the verts that are currently being influenced by the particular bone you currently have selected? It seems like a feature like that would make setting up the blends between bones a lot easier then having to select all the verts in question each time and then additional verts that you are wanting to weight to.

I'm on CS, XP, Dell.
At my last job, the CAD manager there had certain blocks which, upon insertion, automatically selected the rotate command. i.e., as soon as you click to place the block, it was free rotating.
I've search for the answer, but everything just tells me how to put the rotate command inside the dynamic block, but I don't know how to make it "auto-jump" to that immediately upon insertion.
I have been using PSP since jasc released version 4. I was a long time user of 7, 9 and then X2.
Beginning with X3 and now X4 the Auto-Preserve function does not work. I especially miss this feature when running batch process. This is my primary reason fro skipping over X3 waiting for X4.
The function works fine in x2, but it never did in the trials of X3 or now the trial of X4. The feature is enabled. I selected "Yes, do this every time" the first edit I preformed. Verified in preferences as well.
In earlier versions I was given the option of enabling the Auto Save feature, and choosing the time intervals between saves. I chose every 2 minutes. If it crashed or was shut down in a reboot, the images on which I was working were recovered with their layers intact. Nothing was lost. I do not have that option in Version X4.
Nothing is ever saved with Version X4
Is it simply a way to condense screen real estate to manage a lot of images -- especially ones shot for HDR, for example, which are varying exposures of the same view? I would love to see an analysis of the meta data to create smart stacks suitable for panoramic merging or HDR depending on how they were shot. Then the next logical request would be for a Process the Stacks in Photoshop, thus automating this process.

I thought there might have been a feature where cs6 lists the colours in the 'current colours' drop down list.
Yellow, pink and blue are the ones that have automatically appeared but i cant see my current colour group.
I vectorized this image from a jpeg and saved the vector as a PNG, then reopened it.
There is an apply auto tone adjustments checkbox in preferences, but it does not work properly. After checking it, some photos still require to click on auto button on the basic panel.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an image with 8 layers and i want to draw lines. So I make a new layer. While this layer is selected, i select the line tool and draw a line. Then, as I want to move this line, I select the move tool and try to move it. But instead of moving the line I just drew, photoshop automatically switches to my background layer (although i'm not sure it's defined as "background layer") and moves the entire content of the layer.
To see what actually happened, i hid each layer in the layer palette... And still... here was my line. (with all layers hidden, is it POSSIBLE to have anything?)
I tried to select my line and then, using the move tool, move it, but the message "could not move the selection because the selected area is empty"...
