Photoshop :: CS 5.1 - Manual And Auto Upgrades Not Working?

trying to upgrade Camera Raw to 6.7 on my windows 7(32) machine running CS5.1. without success. It now appears that I am not able to carry of any updates in CS5.1 either through the program update routine or by download. All programs seem to be working fine apart from this.
If I try using Help>Update Adobe Application Manager opens, goes through an apparent download of all the updates but I see little data stream comming in and then staps saying there is a download problem please try later.
If I dowload the update direct for the Adobe site the download is fine but when I run AdobePatchInstaller.exe to istall say Camera Raw 6.7 Adobe Application Manager opens and thinks for a little whlie before giving "an error installing the update"
I have tried Adobe support adviser but this was indicating "cpsid_90243r4: Error DW020 or DW050 occurs during installation - Creative Suite 5.5, Flash CS5.5, Flash Builder 4.5" which is apparently an error sometimes seen during initial installation.
Running Photoshop and the updates as administrator does not work.

I am running CS5 and LR 3 on Vista 64-bit but am building a new Win7 PC. Can I upgrade both CS and LR to the new machine OS without starting over with expensive full installs?

I'm experiencing the auto-select in Photoshop CS6 not working when it is checked and I click on different layers. It worked fine in 5.5, but I am now using PS CS6 cloud and it works only sporadically.

My "auto contrast" keyboard shortcut is not working for some odd reason. "Alt+Shift+Ctrl+L"
If I go manually to Image>adjustments>Auto Contrast it works.
I'm on CS, XP, Dell.

I have been using PSP since jasc released version 4. I was a long time user of 7, 9 and then X2.
Beginning with X3 and now X4 the Auto-Preserve function does not work. I especially miss this feature when running batch process. This is my primary reason fro skipping over X3 waiting for X4.
The function works fine in x2, but it never did in the trials of X3 or now the trial of X4. The feature is enabled. I selected "Yes, do this every time" the first edit I preformed. Verified in preferences as well.

In earlier versions I was given the option of enabling the Auto Save feature, and choosing the time intervals between saves. I chose every 2 minutes. If it crashed or was shut down in a reboot, the images on which I was working were recovered with their layers intact. Nothing was lost. I do not have that option in Version X4.

Is it simply a way to condense screen real estate to manage a lot of images -- especially ones shot for HDR, for example, which are varying exposures of the same view? I would love to see an analysis of the meta data to create smart stacks suitable for panoramic merging or HDR depending on how they were shot. Then the next logical request would be for a Process the Stacks in Photoshop, thus automating this process.

Im playing around with the 'recolor artwork' tool but cannot seem to find the colour group for my existing image [URL] ....
I thought there might have been a feature where cs6 lists the colours in the 'current colours' drop down list.
Yellow, pink and blue are the ones that have automatically appeared but i cant see my current colour group.
I vectorized this image from a jpeg and saved the vector as a PNG, then reopened it.

There is an apply auto tone adjustments checkbox in preferences, but it does not work properly. After checking it, some photos still require to click on auto button on the basic panel.

After having a problem projecting my walls to my roof slab (flat roof), which worked fine in previous sessions; and then trying the standard solutions of making sure my walls clean up properly, etc., I determined the problem was actually in that the walls do not like to project to a roof with components. In my last work session, I added a component to my roof. I switched back to a "standard" roof slab, projected the walls, and then switched back again to my roof with components.

I was using these tool on a lot of images, because they often seemed to vastly improve them, making the colors pop on otherwise somewhat dull ones, and getting rid of unwanted color casts..
Later though I noticed that it is often at the cost of burning out hightlights in some areas beyond salvation.I also find shadow /highlight sometimes does this also.
Then I tried to protect some small areas with a mask before proceeding, but it seems that I can't find information on just painting a mask, but only videos with much more complex adjustment such as the Russel Crow or Lynda ones with maintaing hair detail while superimposing images, which is way beyond what I need in these cases.
If I try the wand to select and inverse I get unnatural looking divisions. Is it a matter of feathering to the right extent?

I have just moved from 7.0 to CS3 (and PC to Mac) and am currently trying to get to grips with the new features! Once which I love is the auto-align and auto-blend feature(s). My question is, is there any way to control how these features work? I have seen on some web sites people talk about 'fuzziness' sliders where you can control that if an object (pixels) appear in X% of the photos they should/shouldn't be included in the final image but I cannot find these.
My intention is to use these features to take photos of monuments and have the people who are moving about removed from the final image (I guess it's the auto-align that would do this.) I tried a test and took a number of photos at home but I kept moving one object around (a pen.) The pen appears in all the images but in a different location so it always appears in the final image. When I tried auto-align with a stack that included one image without the pen, the pen was removed from the final image. Given the first scenario (i.e. the object is in all the images but in a different location) is there any way of automatically removing it using auto-align or would this have to be a manual process? In the real world, it would be possible to take a photo of a monument with people in different locations but it would be much harder (or take a long time) to take one where at least one person was not in all the photos (there's always someone loitering.)

There is a huge number of how to tutorials and books on the web in the books etc. What I really want is a reference manual where each command/feature is explained and options defined in the way manuals used to be written. I have some Scott Kelby books and others, but they all tell you how top do this and that, but I would really like to understand better what I am doing and then I will not need so much the how to books. Is there nothing like that available?

I have just started exploring APE 11 and found one problem. I cannot control GPS coordinates and location tags when I use Add Places. Google maps does not always show correct place on map when address is entered, if I adjust the place on map manually, it either loses location tags or asumes that it is another address. Neither scenario is desired. What I would love to do is to be able to type coordinates and edit location tags (now only deletion is an option). API 11 does not allow to do what I want, is that correct?
I was thinking about doing some manipulation with *.pse11db file as it apperantly is SQLite database. Any example of SQL query that would
a) list all photos (their full file paths) for specified album and
b) SQL query that would allow to edit GPS coordinates and location tags for specified photo (its full file path)?

Yes, I'm probably the only person on the planet that wants this, but I liked how the Auto Tone auto adjusted the Exposure slider (ONLY!) and left all the other sliders at zero in the Lightroom 4 beta.
Is there a way to write a preset that returns that behavior?

Is there are a way to display the attached tags for a photo in manual order, rather than how they are sorted in the keyword tag list?
When I assign tags to a photo, these are displayed in the order in which the tags are sorted in the list of tags (either alphabetically or manual).However, what I want to achieve is to display the tags for a photo in the order of i.e. the people shown on the photo.
how to achieve this?

i am using video studio since its 8 version. now testing the trial version of x4. but a very useful editing tool, i think, missing still now. that is video editing fade in fade out manually in the timeline. its possible to do this in audio. but is it possible in case of video. many other video editing soft. do this. but why corel still not updating in their package?

how I can print the manual, also how do I download the manual into the program…I downloaded the zip file opened it with 7 Zip but couldn’t get it to work…I lost my Photoshop 4.0 when my computer crashed and a friend told me your program is much better and free…on my very limited budget that was good news, but I do need to print the manual because I have difficulty reading things on the computer.

I do prepress work for a label manufacturer/printer, and all of our trapping is currently done manually. The art files we work with continue to grow in their complexity, and doing all the trapping manually can sometimes be quite difficult and incredibly time consuming.
I know that Illustrator has a built-in trapping option, but it doesn't allow for a whole lot of control. I've played around with a demo of PowerTrapper (from Esko), but it's fairly pricy, and I haven't been able to get my boss to bite yet. Any plugins that handle trapping.

I'm a paleontology student and in my work I have to create reconstructions and pictures of fossils, most of them stippled (similar to URL..... I used to work with Gimp 2.6, using paintbrush fading set to 1 px (i.e. every click of a mouse making one, perfect dot). I'm using a mouse, because I find it more comfortable and precise than a graphic tablet. Unfortunately, after Gimp update to 2.8 the brush options changed, the brush fading ceased to work as it used to, and I can't find a way to turn it on (tweaking the dynamics settings would probably work for a tablet, but I find it useless for a mouse). I know there are some plugins for automatic stippling/halftoning, but unfortunately they are not what I want, as they obviously mix information about shape (shading) and color, while I need my pictures to show only the shape of the specimens. Is there any way to make the paintbrush fading work in Gimp 2.8 as it worked in Gimp 2.6?

I am having an issue where every time I try to switch to Manual for Sleep. Immediately on trying to switch to Manual the MAXScript window comes up highlighting the close parentheses of the Undo block of the - on rb_sleepThresholds changed val do - block and an error window with an OK button and a massive error message pops up - the error window runs off the bottom of the screen just a little if I don't hide the taskbar.
