Photoshop :: How To Auto Select A Brush Stroke
May 1, 2009Is there a way so that, when I finish painting a Brush stroke, it automatically becomes selected? Or something else having the same effect?

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to select a portion of a path by using the direct selection tool and shift clicking on the anchor points. But when I click and drag the brush over onto the path, the brush stroke is applied to the entire path..... which I dont want to happen. I only want it applied to the section of the path.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way or an option I am missing to convert my regular paths to a path stroked with a brush profile, while maintining the proper stroke width?
For instance, I have a regular line with a stroke of 5 and then add a brush profile, which then converts the original stroke to whatever the brush was made at.
The brush preview size does not match brush stroke. I've insert a pic of the problem. I tried allmost everythning, but nothing works.
I use a wacom tablet.
I know this discussion title is a bit murky, but the problem is a bit odd. I have Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2. In this version, I will activate the Select Tool, check Auto-Select: Layer, check Show Transform Controls, and then while using the Select Tool I will drag to create a rectangle to select multiple layers with content within the specified area.
Unfortunately, this action only works when I begin the selection from outside of the canvas area. If started from within the canvas area, no rectangle will appear, it will show me a measurement of my selection size, and then no layers will be selected upon release.
This cannot be working as intended right? I mean multi-select dragging cannot be intended to only work when started outside of the canvas right? Is there some way to fix this issue? Is this a bug? See the images below for more information on this issue.
Wondering if theres a plugin/feature for asto highlighting (sort of a preselect object) as in photoshop.
I have kinda got used to this in PS but am hoping theres a PDN equivalent?
Is there any way to add a favorite brush stroke to the list of brush strokes, or do you always have to open the original file to access the brush stroke?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI don't even know if this is possible, but I'd like to create an action, script, etc. to detect and stroke a series of lines.
I'm a fingerprint examiner who traces fingerprints in photoshop and some action to make it easier would greatly increase my productivity.
I use PS CS3 in Windows Vista Home Premium.
I am trying to stroke a Path or Selection with an custom brush that I Defined. For some reason the brush wont even leave a mark on a blank image.
I use the pen tool to set the points then right click to select stroke path, select the brush and click ok.
Nothing happens. The blue tube appears so it's processing the command but still nothing happens.
Could the brush settings be to do with this?
I'm using Photoshop CS2.
On Windows Vista
how to make dotted lines around a shape and when it comes to the point where i have to grab the pen tool right click and select stroke path..its light gray and not clickable. why can't i select it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOne can stroke a Path with the Brush Tool, Pencil Tool, Burn Tool, etc., which affects pixels of a targeted pixel Layer.
Shapes can have solid colour strokes, gradient strokes and pattern strokes which are part of the Shape definition.
Am I alone in thinking that it would be useful for Shapes to be able to have their stroke defined as a Brush (and possibly other tools) which doesn't change the pixels of another Layer, and instead remains an editable property of the Shape's appearance?
I created a brush and I have created a path. What I want to happen is for the brush to follow the path and keep the angle of the path. What I mean is the brush should stay perpendicular to the path. So that on angles...the brush takes that angle. Does that make sense? Let me explain exactly what I have done. I created a brush that is just a rectangle that is about 1px wide and about 7px tall. I have created a path around some text. I want the brush to follow the path around so that it looks like stitching. But what is happening is on the vertical sides..the brush is staying vertical.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have used the pen tool, in path mode, to draw a path. When I right click and select "stroke path" and then set it to brush, I am just getting dots at my anchor points, and no solid line over the entire path I drew with the pen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Photoshop CS4 the paint deposited by a brushstroke by a Wacom Intuos3 pen tool intermittently and unpredictably just stops mid-stroke after some while of a continuos stroke. This is a real problem when making simulated watercolor washes because these require a continuos application of paint using a brush with Wet Edges. When the paint just stops and the pen tool is removed from contact and then re-contacted, the paint starts again but now the new brushstroke sits on top of the old stroke and does not merge into it (as you want with a watercolor wash).
No brush controls are set to Fade and in any case the ink-stopping happens well into the continuos stroke - much later than a Fade control would affect it.
I'd be grateful for advice on how to stop this happening, please. Why is the paint flow just stopping? Is this a known problem with CS4?
CS4 is fine in other respects.
System:
Intuos 3 with Grip Pen and latest driver; Vista Ultimate 64 bit; Photshop CS4 64 bit; Q9550 cpu; 8 Gb ram; x2 WD velociraptor hdds; ATI Gigabyte 4850 graphics card with 1 Gb ram and 9.3 driver; Asus Xonar D2X sound card.
Lag occurs primarily on selections and brush strokes after using the pan tool, but these lags were only present when Vista's Aero theme was DISABLED and vista was running the basic theme (something you would otherwise think improved performance) this is however not the case for Photoshop.
Our dilemma is though that we cannot run 3dsmax in Aero mode and as such this fix is essentially useless :(.
Other sources on the web have indicated these problems as being nvidia driver related (my problems occured running a 8800gtx), this is so far unconfirmed by me although i will be testing a highend ati card shortly.
I'm experiencing the auto-select in Photoshop CS6 not working when it is checked and I click on different layers. It worked fine in 5.5, but I am now using PS CS6 cloud and it works only sporadically.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter moving to Win 7 I re-installed CS5. And have forgotten how I managed to set something to "auto select the right layer". For instance, clicking on the text of a text layer used to select that layer, clicking on a shape selected the appropriate shape layer. Which setting did I use for that and where can I find it? Should have written it down...
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe Auto Select Layer/Group feature of the move tool can be really handy when you have a ton of layers. But it also drives me crazy when I forget to turn it off!
Is there a hotkey to toggle it off and on? Ideally, I'd like to press-and-hold to turn Auto Select on, but once the key is released, it would turn off.
I have "auto select" turned on for the Move Tool and I click on a layer. How can I get Photoshop's Layer palette to scroll what I selected? I'm having to scroll up and down a lot trying to find my highlighted layer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have version 6.0, and for some reason, something changed the other day where I can no longer simply click on the layer and move it around. I now have to right click and select "layer 17" before being able to move it. I can't seem to find how to edit this setting.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAuto select layer is not working. I accidently hit a combination of keys and now it doesn't work. I did see that in the Layers box it indicated Pass Through but I checked Normal and it is still not working.
I restarted my computer twice in case it was my computer.
Im using a tablet. I want to make my brush stoke very very short. Previously, I would do this by setting the fade to a very small number. I think I used to set it to airbrush but possibly it worked in brush as well. (I cant even figure out how to select an airbrush now) How do I do this in 6?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created a brush that is meant to mimic stitching and i would like to be able to rotate one "stitch" or stroke at a time... ( i pasteurized the shape)
I have used Ctrl + Click on the Shapes Thumbnail to make a Selection and then went to Select > Modify > Contract and then I went to the Paths palette and from the drop down/fly out menu i chose Make Work Path and then. I Right Clicked on the Work Paths Thumbnail and chose: Stroke Path > Brush (chose my custom brush)
I manipulated the Path as much as possible to create the curves as needed but. I still need to modify the stitches . If i recall correctly i think i read somewhere that i can use a Marquee tool select individual brush strokes (that are a part of the same path) to rotate and/or relocate/move in general, however, i cannot seem to get it to work for me ... so, i am thinking i've forgotten a step or that i may be totally wrong.
Can i rotate a single brush stroke? is there a way to "ungroup" like in Illustrator or some other sort of Ps creature.
Above is an example of what i'm trying to explain ... all the dashes are on one path but i would like to be able to rotate just one at a time (like in the red circle). is this at all possible? i've tried to paint em all manually but it just doesn't end up looking nice at all.
I just got an Intuos5 and I'm not very experienced with the Photoshop settings regarding tablet usage. I want to replicate the effect of drawing on paper with a marker, without lifting my pen. If you go back and forth over the same spot 15 times on a piece of paper with a marker without (lifting the marker), that spot will be much darker than if you make one stroke. I understand that in Photoshop I can lift my pen off the tablet and do the same stroke 15 times, but logistically, that just doesn't work with the way I draw.
Basically, I'm wondering if there's a way to make it so opacity is purely dependent on how many times a certain spot is covered WITHOUT LIFTING MY PEN.I know there are controls to switch brush opacity to coincide with pen pressure, but I don't want to destroy my new tablet by carving into it to have a pure black stroke.
To demonstrate what I mean by this, here's an extremely crude example in which the left represents how photoshop works for me now, versus how I'd like it to work. Notice how going over the same spot within the same stroke, those intersections are darkened.
got a problem that I can't figure out...
In cs5 i could stroke the path based on the brush size/shape when i choose "brush" and simulate pressure to get those nice faded out lines.
In cs6 I do the same thing but the stroke size never changes to the brush size even when i make sure "brush" is selected.
Second question... I want to add some lights with Knoll Light Factory; is there a way to preview the lens flare on top of all the current layers to see what it will look like? Sometimes i'm trying to position it on top of a very specific area. I know I can change the background layer to the specific place, but getting a full preview would be great.
PS CC Brush flickering to arrow after each stroke. My problem is on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.
As a computer tech, I have tried the tricks I know, and thought I would get on here and see if/what I am missing.
Im running Photoshop CC 64bit on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, updated using 3 monitors between the nvida and on-board intel graphics. I have also Checked that PS is updated as well.Im on a Intel I3 Sandy with an nvida GTX 550 Ti 9.18.13.2049 (6-21-2013) with 8gigs of ram
I am also using a bamboo Capture (It's all I can afford right now) with the latest drivers (5.3.2.1).I have unplugged the capture and was able to reproduce the problem just using the mouse.
I testing and reproduced the problem on PSD's large and small and jpg's as well.I have also disabled and enabled several options in the tablet and windows tablet settings.
I have reproduced the problem using all 3 monitors in full screen and windowed mode.I have been able to reproduce the problem in most of the settings with in PS CC.
A more detail of the problem is:99% of the time, at the end of a stroke (Pen or mouse) make the windows arrow pointer appear instead of the brush. So, Lets say I make several one direction strokes. If the mouse (Pen) keeps moving after the stroke, the windows arrow cursor will blink on screen. If you to the same thing and end the pen/mouse motion with the stroke the arrow cursor icon will appear and stay there until you move the cursor again.
I am trying to create an action that includes a brush stroke and for some reason the action will not remember to include the stroke.

I created a brush representing a period of a tyre tread. I want to stroke path a path with it to make it look like a tire mark: >>>>>>>>>>>>>. My problem is the single brush marks are distributed far too close together.
Where in brush palette or wherever can I make the parameters fit?
Click on the brushes palette up the top right hand side of the menu bar. Click on color dynamics then change the hue, saturation and brightness.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to make it easier for our 100,000 designers to use AI to make custom products using a laser cutter.
Current Practice
Designers open our AI laser cutting design templates, add their designs using the AI settings our online pricing system can read, then upload their designs to our website for instant pricing, making and shipping.
The Problem
Designers have to manually setup AI with settings that can be read by our online pricing system. If they get these settings wrong, our system can not read their designs. So they are rejected and can not be priced or made. This happens more often that you'd imagine.
The Solution
Designers do not like design rejections. So I'd like to eradicate them by providing our designers with a version of AI that provides the following settings only:
* Set document to RGB
* Stroke weight = 0.01mm
* Stroke colors = RGB 0, 0, 255 and 255, 0, 0
* Fill color = RGB 0, 0, 0
This will mean designers have a very limited number of AI choices, with nothing to distract them or to get wrong. Which will result in less (or zero?) design rejections. And products made faster than before. Rejoice!
Question
How do we program our AI laser cutting design templates so that when they are opened in AI, they auto set AI settings as defined above?
