I use auto-select primarily when designing. I will often clicking and dragging a marquee box to select multiple objects. I immediately noticed that it is now selecting hidden layers as well, where it didn't before.

Is there a setting or way to change this? I am assuming as of now that this is a new change. They will still select even if the layers are locked so locking groups is not a solution for this.
i can't be the only one who thinks it's nuts that when 'auto-select > layers' is selected and i drag to select a bunch of layers, i also select layers that are turned off and/or locked, can i?i just confirmed that this IS not the case with CS6 -- locked or hidden layers are not selected upon dragging to select exposed layers.

is this a bug, or a bit of new functionality that i am failing to grasp? i did notice that in CC, on right-click there is the new option to "isolate layers", but this seems to just isolate & unclutter layers within the layers panel.
improve Photoshop CC, but this bug beaks my workflow to the point I can't use it.

Other than this critical bug, the software engineers behind Photoshop CC are doing a great job.
I'm using the Photoshop CC in Windows8 64x as trial and find a curious bug with the Move Tool:Usually I select multiple layers creating a selection with the Move Tool on them, but in this new CC version the tool is selecting hidden layers too. More details: the hidden layer are inside a folder. The folder is hidden, but the inside layers are not.

This type of selection has always worked perfectly in previously versions, and of course, I leave the option "Auto Select> Layer" enabled.
I have version 6.0, and for some reason, something changed the other day where I can no longer simply click on the layer and move it around. I now have to right click and select "layer 17" before being able to move it. I can't seem to find how to edit this setting.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi switched from CS5 to CS6 Extended (Win 7 64bit) and I'm a little bit confused about the select/move tool (V). I have "automatic selection" activated and when I click on a layer, Photoshop often selects a nearby layer but not the one I'm clicking at - often the layer selected is more on top of the layer I was planning to select, but that was no problem in CS5 ... Is there anything I can change in the settings or is this behavior "normal"?

how to select items on the canvas, aside for selecting each individual layer on the layers panel. have Mac os X 10.7.4, and I previously had cs5.5 on my laptop.

I was able to use the direct select tool to select mulitple items by either dragging it would select anything in the box or using shift to select multiple items. Do I have to click on every item in the layer panel to select it on the canvas? Is there a option that I have checked when it should be unchecked?
I know this discussion title is a bit murky, but the problem is a bit odd. I have Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2. In this version, I will activate the Select Tool, check Auto-Select: Layer, check Show Transform Controls, and then while using the Select Tool I will drag to create a rectangle to select multiple layers with content within the specified area.Â
Unfortunately, this action only works when I begin the selection from outside of the canvas area. If started from within the canvas area, no rectangle will appear, it will show me a measurement of my selection size, and then no layers will be selected upon release.

This cannot be working as intended right? I mean multi-select dragging cannot be intended to only work when started outside of the canvas right? Is there some way to fix this issue? Is this a bug? See the images below for more information on this issue.

I have drawn a black horizontal line 100mm long. Under that line a have a 100mm line coloured blue. How do I select the blue line? In AutoCAD 2000 I would hold down ctrl and select the line. Then scroll using the mouse pressing right click to select. I am currently using AutoCad2011. This function does not work.

the blending options are normal for TEXT and BG, but I have soft light for SHADOW. Now the BG layer actually contains an illustration which makes my shadow look realistic, however what Im trying to do is, save the picture with a transparent background with only TEXT and SHADOW showing, but as soon as I hide BG, the SHADOW layer will go back to the black color I drew and not look like a shadow. I tried merging text and shadow but either the TEXT gets soft light and gets ruined or SHADOW becomes normal and gets ruined. Its very late, ive been trying to figure it out for the past 4 hours so I hope I explained it clearly.
I would like to increase the font size in many text layers at a time by selecting them in the layers panel. The font increases, but the text boxes don't expand to fit the increased size text. So I am having to make each box bigger manually. Is there a way to have the boxes expand to fit bigger text automatically through the layers panel?

This forces me to switch to the Channels tab and select the RGB channel before I can perform work on a layer. Why is Photoshop automatically selecting the Quick Mask layer when switching between layers? I can't seem to find a setting for this and I'm not sure why, all of the sudden, it started doing this. Does anyone know how to stop this madness?

I place the pickbox on the front side of the cube, press down Ctrl which highlights the front face, then while still pressing down Ctrl, I press space bar to make the highlight jump to the back face. But when I click it with the mouse, the front face gets selected!

I imported two solid models( *.stp) in one workplace. (Drafting & annotation/insert/import)
I am trying to subtract one from another, But one is hidden from another. (smaller one is in the bigger one) To subtract smaller one from bigger one, I need to select small hidden one.
1. How to select the hidden part? I cannot see from outside.
If I have tree view(navigation??), I could simply select one on the tree, But I don't know how to make to pop it up. Instead of clicking icons, I tried to use command, but what each model name is. (I tried imported file name, but didn't work)
2. How to check the model name so that I can use in command?
3. When I use command, I put SUBTRACT - enter , (select object- actually I click on the object) then it shows me "select objects:1 found" but when I hit ENTER, it shows me "no solid, surfaces, or regions selected" How can I properly select the object?

In 2010, I thought I remember the grid snap would automatically turn off when I was in a command for selecting stuff, then after completing my selection, the grid snap would automatically turn back on. For instance, if I wanted to isolate a layer, with grid snap on and set to 1/2x1/2", the object I would try to select would be in the middle of all the grid points and my curser would just jump around it. I'd have to F9 to turn off grid snap, then turn it back on when I was done selecting.Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been running into this problem for quite some time and it is annoying. I'm using AutoCAD MEP 2011. I don't know if this makes a difference in regular ACAD or not... I've noticed that if the 'line' command is active and I drag my crosshair over the top of a 3D object the face of that object will highlight and this causes my machine to lock up and I have to restart everything. Whenever I click an object, its layer in the Layers palette auto-expands, pushing all of the main layers off of the edge of the palette. I then have to click the little arrow to collapse the layer so I can see all of the other layers and (quickly?) get to the one I need.

I am using a Magic Trackpad (don't ask) so this task is particularly arduous, as the cursor is often somewhat difficult to maneuver when attempting to target small UI elements. My display height is only 1050 px, so naturally I would rather not make the layer thumbnails any smaller (25 px.)

Is there a hotkey to toggle it off and on? Ideally, I'd like to press-and-hold to turn Auto Select on, but once the key is released, it would turn off.

I have a Photoshop document made by someone else that I am opening. There are 5 layers. 3 are hidden. When I hide all the layers, the image still appears on screen.
In the layers palette I see Unify: with 3 icons to click on and Propogate Frame 1 is checked. I don't believe I have ever seen this before in the layers pallete. Below I have an image of what is going on. Not sure if there is a way to set up a file like this when starting a new document or what, but this is what's happening; all layers hidden, but image appears.
if i have a load of parts in an assembly set so visibility is of, is there a way to group select all hidden parts so they van be made visible again as a group rather than looking through the assembly for them?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I have a masked layer and try to drag-select other items on other layers outside of it, it still gets selected if the image area happens to be located within the selection range. Or in other words: why would anything outside of the masked area get selected at all, when the point of a mask in not just to hide what's outside, but also to 'deactivate' it,so that the masked area is all we are working with. This didn't happen before, may be those were older versions of photoshop.

I guess I'm not clicking the right spot but in my mind, Shouldn't it just move all the layers instead of randomly selecting some other layer that I didn't select?
