Any way to select art (on a artboard) and then use toggle the selection of the layers in you want to.... lets say colect in a layer? Collect in Layer is a command in the Layers panel flyout. It seems so tiedious to have to select each layer manualy that you have selected already on the artboard.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI frequently used the ctrl key shortcut in illustrator on a PC to temporarily use the selection tool last used. This still works in CC, but I used to be able to toggle selection tools by keeping ctrl held down as before and then toggle selection tools (selection tool - black arrow, and direct selection tool - white arrow) by tapping the shift key. The tool description in the very bottom of the window shows "toggle selection" when I do this, but the toggle selection tool doesn't actually occur.

how do I center my current selection to the artboard? just like hitting the "horizontal align-center" and "vertical align-center" buttons. I've been searching for the last two hours and before my head hits the keyboard.
What I'm struggling with: in my init function i create a new document and then copy all layers from the previous document step by step to the new document and then save it as SVG.

my problem is that holderDoc = app.documents.add(); always creates a document that is not the same size as my initial document where the layers get copied from.
so I want the exact same artboard size as in my initial document.I'm fine with either doing it as fixed values or taking directly the values of the inital doc. i tried this in the segment where I create the new document:

which from what I've read on the web means that illustrator doesnt know what document to pick. but i have called it directly. I do not want to fit the artboard to the images/layer. the artboard should always have a certain size. (for me 128px by 128px)

i now added a new artboard to the new document with the same size as the artboard on the initial document.i remove the predefined artboard on the new doc and set the new artboard as active the artboard is now not centered into the window. which lets illustrator place my image with ctrl+c -> ctrl+v somewhere outside the artboard.
i now need to align my selection to the center of the artboard. but i cant find any reference on how to center a selection to the artboard.

My problem is : I have a AI file with multiple layers, i want to create one artboard per layer, in order to export a multipage PDF ( each page contain 1 layer ).
The layers represents the differents type of print ( vernish, color, hot gold, pressure ... ) and/or color type ( Pantone, CMYK, cut, kisscut ... ). My client want a PDF for see each type of print or color type per page.
I'm trying 2 ways :
1st solution : Create new artboards, and duplicate ( or move ) layers content on the new artboad, but the function move/duplicate don't work to move content on another artboard.
2nd solution : Create new document with the same number of layers as artboard and duplicate layer to the new artboard on the new document.
When I open Illustrator and create a new artboard, I cannot edit or interact with the artboard. No matter what tool I select, the cursor indicates that the artboard/layer is not editable but the layer is definitely not locked.

i have around 500 eps formats images with different artboard size.
i need to resize the artboard to A4 size and the images to be placed in the centre of the artboard.
Noramlly in CS5 and any other version of Photoshop or Illustrator that I know of, if you click a point in an object, it will show the handles for transforming the line. As I'm creating something today, it works for a while and then stops. Yesterday I had the same problem. I drew a few things and then suddenly, the Direct Select Tool is not showing any transform handles.
I can get them to show if I can click and drag a box over the point, but this is slow and doesn't work well for layered art. I already tried resetting my illustrator preferences.
Also, in CS5 there's a simple icon that you can click to convert the currently selected point from a curved point to an angled point. Is there not such a thing in CS2?
I am trying to find out if there is a way to select only the objects within a selection marquee? In AutoCAD you can make a selection window from left to right and only those objects entirely within the window are selected. If you window from right to left all objects that are "crossed" or touched by the window are selected. Is there a similar technique in Illustrator?
Currently I have to select the objects, then go back and hold the shift key to deselect the object I don't want, or put objects on different layers then lock layers to prevent extra objects getting selected.
In AutoCAD, my primary program, you simply draw a selection window, left or right, depending on what your next step would be. No special tools or toggles or thinking ahead, it's just the primary selection process and very intuitive.
The Auto Select Layer/Group feature of the move tool can be really handy when you have a ton of layers. But it also drives me crazy when I forget to turn it off!
Is there a hotkey to toggle it off and on? Ideally, I'd like to press-and-hold to turn Auto Select on, but once the key is released, it would turn off.

While remapping shortcut keys, I came across the default Alt-G: Geometry Selection Visibility Toggle.
What does it do? I can't see it changing anything.
I am trying to create a very simple logo. Basically, I created two layers: one with the letter M and the other with the letter W. I now want to place another letter over top of them and then select it so I can delete the shape of the third letter from the other two and essentially be able to see the transparent background through the third letter.
I have done this in PS CS2 no problem, but I am trying to do it in illustrator so I can resize the design for anything from a business card to a billboard if needed. Bottom line is I need a solution that wont effect me being able to resize the vecotr to crazy sizes.
In the image below, the "S" is just a white letter. I need it to be a cut out through the M and W so that whatever Background it is on the page or document shows through that S space.
When I use the direct selection tool to select multiple objects that also contain an image within a clipping set, occasionally the clipped image is included in the bounding box, even if it and its clipping mask are not selected. Selecting other objects includes them in the bounding box, but even after deselecting everything the bounding box around the image remains and the only way to remove it is to drag a handle (which resizes the image) and then undo the action. Obviously this is annoying and seriously interrupts workflow. I've had this issue ever since CS4.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a guge artwork and i need to select a small groups (around 10-100) of objects from about 4000 overlayed objects and then group'em/split-to-layers for usability (This is a human body infographics for medical institute) There IS NO way selecting them from canvas because they are overlayed, and sometimes not visible at all. in CS5 there was a feature to select multiple objects by Alt+drag selection icon on the most right in the Layers Panel. Now the duplication mode turns-on when i try to perform it. So.. Ho do i select multiple object without need to click through thousands of them? (i need drag-select)

I really like the features that are offered and cant wait to dive in and play around with it. However, I am getting a bit discouraged because it is not working on my computer the way it does when I visited some u-tube videos. So far I have a problem with the layers. I selected, new, added two layers, therefore I had three layers to work with. When I would toggle between the layers the picture didn't change at all, the screen only allowed me to view the last picture I imported. So, I thought I would hide the third picture and work with the second to see what would happen. I scaled the second picture and it scaled them all (note: the pictures where not linked). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and it still did the same thing. I am working with Windows 7 if that makes any difference?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently started working with paint.net and haven't figured out a way to achieve a layer with, for example, a "blur" effect that blurs the layers underneath it. The only way I've been able to achieve this is by flattening the image, copying it, then adding the blur to the new image. Adding multiple effects becomes impractical quickly if any changes are necessary. Is there a way to toggle an effect for all or some layers?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf you look closely in the attached picture, there is a spot of light blue on the player's helmet, that looks like a mistake (think it should look like the grass behind it)...though it actually may be part of his helmet.
Regardless, I'd like to take it out. My idea was to select the blue with the quick selection tool, then bring that selection out to the grass, select the grass with that size/shape of selection, copy/paste and then bring the grass selection into the blue part so it looks like grass in what was the blue part.
The problem is I don't seem to be able to move the selection without taking the blue with it (so it's not an empty selection and therefore can't select a piece of the grass.)
I'm looking for the most elegant syntax to loop through a document and select all the text frames.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm primarily an illustrator user, but my office has several people with ISOdraw backgrounds. Part of our job is making line drawings with just a couple of different line weights, and apparently in ISOdraw you can set two line weights and quickly toggle between them while you're working somehow, and the lack of something similar in illustrator frustrates them. To make things easier for me i made a little graphic style library with the relevant line weights in it so i can click between them, which works fine for me, but in ISOdraw it's supposedly more intuitive somehow and they want to know if there is any way of doing something comparable, but I'm at a loss as to what else we could do. Maybe there's a keyboard shortcut for switching graphic styles, or some other shortcut i never noticed?

It seems that there's more padding around the lock/visibility icon, and you have to be really precise to click it... increasing the row size doesn't really make any difference, as the "padding" is still there. Wheres in the earlier versions clicking anywhere within the toggle box would enable/disable it.
