I have a question that involves texturing multi objects for a single model.

1 - should I texture the peices first and then attach them together

or

2 - should i attach the pieces together and then texture them.

Also, once the model are attached, should I still weld the vertices and if I dont weld them, will it affect the animation when I rig the model?

Photoshop :: Compare Number Of Pixels Or Diameter Of Objects Across Images For Each Of 10 Objects

Apr 15, 2013

I am currently selecting 10 objects from a picture and then I delete the background. This leaves just the 10 objects of interest in the image.

I have hundreds of these images and would like to compare the number of pixels or diameter of the objects across the images for each of the 10 objects. Is there a way I can automate Photoshop to go through a directory of images and measure the pixels of each of the 10 objects, and then export those measurements to a file?

AutoCad :: Size And Shape Of All Objects Connecting The Objects To The Main Structure

Nov 22, 2012

I am very much new to AutoCad, but have learned quite a bit about it in the last few days. As a part of the learning I have been building a 3D model of the shed my dad is building. But I ran into a problem on the roof and cant seem to figure out how to click everything into place.

My problem: I need to keep the size and shape of all objects while also connecting the objects to the main structure. I need to keep A and B connected to the main structure and adjust the angles so that both meet at C. But if I move one then another moves out of place. (In the pic B is out of place) All I want to do is hold the beams at A and B in their spot while adjusting the rotation on both beams to meet at C all at the same time. I have tried to fine adjust the rotation on the beams individually but still cant get them together. I cant seem to get the constraints feature to work, because I guess it only works in 2D. I have tried to use the align tool but it just throws everything haywire.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 :: Vector Objects Behind Transparent Objects Turns Into Bitmaps When Exported

Aug 18, 2011

I often produce graphics in CorelDRAW, export it as en eps file and insert it inside a MS Word document as an image and finally convert it to pdf. This way my vector graphics (often linedrawings with or without fill) usually is preserved in the final pdf document. I can zoom in and the lines keep on displaying perfectly sharp. This is important, since it easily looks bad when thin lines are turned into bitmaps, even when watched from a distance.

Now, in some graphics I created today, I had a circle with fountain fill and outline (symbolizing a sphere) put behind a filled rectangle, which had a uniform transparency applied to it. In the resulting pdf file, the 'sphere' was turned into bitmap. Inside CorelDRAW everything was vector graphics, but something was loast in the process. what happens with the graphics in the different steps in the process and eventually could explain a workaround to make everything look as vector in the final pdf file.

AutoCAD VB :: Converting AttributeDefinition Objects To Text Objects On Same Layer

May 9, 2013

I have several .dwg files that I use as templates. I run find and replace VBA routines on the template .dwg files, ie find $Flavor$ and replace it with "Grape", and then I save the .dwg to another directory with a new name.

These VBA routines work well for acdbText and acdbMText objects, but I have a bunch of AcdbAttributeDefinition objects in the .dwg templates as well.

After much research about the AutoCAD object model (I'm mostly a Microsoft Access VBA programmer), I have come to understand that these AcdbAttributeDefinition objects are actually "remnants" of a block that no longer exists in the drawing.

Anyway, I'd like to convert all of these orphaned AcdbAttributeDefinition objects to acdbText objects in the templates and then delete the AcdbAttributeDefinition objects. I have some code that does just that.

However, the issue that I am having with the code is that the newly created acdbText objects are not on the same layer that the original AcdbAttributeDefinition objects were on. I don't know the syntax to identify what layer the AcdbAttributeDefinition object is on or how to specify what layer on which the acdbText object is created.

how to keep the acdbText objects on the same layers as the original AcdbAttributeDefinition objects during the conversion and deletion process?

Here is the code I am using currently:

Sub AttConvert(dwg as string)Dim oDocument as AcadDocumentDim ent as AcadEntityDim aa as objectset oDocument = Documents.open(dwg) For Each ent In oDocument.ModelSpace If ent.ObjectName = "AcDbAttributeDefinition" Then' DO SOMETHING TO IDENTIFY WHAT LAYER THE ACDBATTRIBUTEDEFINITION OBJECT IS ON
' DO SOMETHING TO SPECIFY THAT THAT IS THE LAYER TO CREATE THE ACDBTEXT OBJECT ON Set aa = ThisDrawing.ModelSpace.AddText(ent.TagString, ent.InsertionPoint, ent.Height) End If Next ent For Each ent In ThisDrawing.ModelSpace If ent.ObjectName = "AcDbAttributeDefinition" Then ent.Delete End If Next ent End Sub

AutoCAD 2010 :: Aligning Objects In Modelspace With Objects In Paperspace?

Apr 10, 2012

I'd like to know how to align an object in model space with the edge of my viewport in paperspace.

When I draw, I like to lay out multiple complete drawings in model space, make an appropriately scaled bounding box around them, and then snap a view port to the bounding box in my layout. I usually have multiple drawings lined up in a row in modelspace, so when I want a new layout I do a Save As and then pan around in my viewport to find the next bounding box, at which point I have to resize the viewport to get it to snap to the edges nicely. I really want to be able to to it the otehr way around- while panning I'd like to be able to grab a corner of my modelspace bouding box and snap it to the the corresponding corner of my viewport window. That way making new layouts would be a snap. Is there a way to do this in AutoCAD 2012 LT?

However, the mtext entity always moves position slightly (compared to the original text entity) after converting the object. better lisp that converts multiple text entities into mtext entities (which are all separate still, i.e. not joined together) without the position of the entity changing?

Photoshop :: Texturing A Photo

Jan 25, 2007

I have a high resolution image for an event we're promoting. The theme/title is "Breaking the Mold" I had a hard time thinking of a concept to go with and have sketched a few things out.

But I really want this to look like a movie poster or a game cover. Anyway the conference is, from what I'm told is to deal with leadership and breaking the way things are normally done.

So I figured I'd try something like a guy kneeling or standing in a business suit, tearing his coat off, like a Superman type deal, but have only half of the image as a statue, while the top half is the man breaking out of the mold (so to speak).

So my question is, once I find a suitable image, how can I take a textured image or background and lay it over the man's body to make it look like he's in the mold itself.

I have thought about creating a brush with the texture and painting over the man and setting layer effects to "pin light" and setting opacity. While this works with paint pretty well, I figured it might work with texture.

But how do I create the brush with the texture for a high resolution image?

Now after I crop the man out of whatever background he's in, and I take a complete huge picture of a statue, plaster, broken concrete, can I just lay it over the man. Because I've tried it with a quick sample I had as a test and set the layer settings to all the ones on there, but the concrete would not wrap around the shadows, and highlights well. The texture would remain flat and not have depth of the man's body.

Photoshop :: Smart Objects

Dec 13, 2008

Ok, so the title of this post sounds confusing. First off, I created a graphic in Illustrator CS3. It is to be used on a web page created in Dreamweaver CS3. I want to be able to streamline the editing process by using the Smart Object linking feature between Dreamweaver and Photoshop CS3.

Obviously, the problem is, I cannot link the Photoshop source to Dreamweaver because the source is not a Photoshop file, it is in Illustrator. The obvious solution to that is to export the Illustrator file as a Photoshop file. The problem with that is, I want to maintain the source in Illustrator and make edits in Illustrator.

So, my solution was to place the Illustrator file in Photoshop and make the Illustrator file a Smart Object in Photoshop. Then link that Photoshop file to the Dreamweaver page. So, basically, Photoshop is just the link between Dreamweaver and Illustrator. It works well! I click the little edit button in Dreamweaver abd it calls up the file in Photoshop. Then I double-click on the Smart Object layer in Photoshop and the source comes up in Illuistrator.

Now, here is the problem. To add to the confusion, I maintain versioning in Version Cue. So whenever I change the Illustrator file, I check it in to Version Cue. The Illustrator file I linked to in Photoshop is the local file on my computer. This file is syncronized with the version of the file that gets uploaded to Version Cue. This may sound complicated, but to see how I did it is pretty straight forward.

My assumption was, when I double clicked on the Smart Object layer in Photoshop, I would get the local copy of the Illustrator file to edit. But, that wasn't the case. Problem is, I got a temp file of the Illustrator graphic and NOT the original source file I linked to in Photoshop.

I can still edit the temp file and have those changes automatically made in Photoshop and then update the image in Dreamweaver. BUT, when I got to check in the new edits of the Illustrator file to Version Cue, it wants to create a new file and not rev-up to the new version of the original file. That's because the file I'm checking in is NOT the original file, it is a temp file.

Does anyone else use a workflow like this? If so, how do you do it?

Photoshop :: CS2 Smart Objects

May 20, 2005

A lot of the hype about CS2 has been around the Vanishing Point tool; Certainly it's cool, and it's probably the easiest feature to awe an audience with. But I think there is a new tool that is waaay more useful: Smart Objects. This is a feature that Adobe has done a terrible job of advertising and explaining—looking at most descriptions of it, it seems to be relevant only to those who often import work in from Illustrator or other apps. I use it just within Photoshop and I'm totally blown away by its power.

What exactly is it?

Smart Objects allows you to take a layer or group of layers and treat them as a single unit—a unit that you can scale, warp, and transform in any way you like without losing any of the data from the orginal layers that make up the "smart object" set. This smart object can be duplicated as many times as you want, and then it is possible to edit the master smart object and see all the changes applied at once.

Here I have a set of four layers—the white shape, the green square, the red circle, and the blue squiggles, which I have combined into a smart object. I then duplicated the smart object and applied different transformations to each one.

Now I double clicked on one of my four smart objects, and in the sub-document that opened, I moved the green square layer up, and added a new layer with a black yin-yang. I saved and closed the subdocument, and all four instances of the smart object in the main document updated with my changes.

The other cool thing that smart objects allows you to do is undo a transformation without losing any of the original resolution.
In this image, I took a raster graphic, duplicated it, and put one inside a smart object and left the other a regular layer. I transformed both of them the same way, and they looked identical. But when I transformed them each again, to try to regain the original shape, the smart object looked significantly better.

How to get smart objects
Select one or more layers in the layers palette, and ctrl-click or right click and select "Group into new Smart Object." Now, you are free to transform and duplicate this new object however you wish. (Note: To duplicate a smart object so that all instances update together, duplicate it in the layers palette as you would any other layer; to duplicate it so it is independent, use "New Smart Object via Copy" in the Layers Menu.) Now, when you wish to edit the original set of layers, double click the Smart Object in the layers palette, and it will open them in a new document. Save and close it when you want your changes applied to your main document.

Smart objects are an incredible tool to add to the arsenal of "safe photoshop practices." Always use adjustment layers, not direct adjustments; always do everything on separate layers; save important history states; use vector art for clean, scalable shapes and text; and convert layers to smart objects before transforming them. (There are certainly more, but these are the ones that jump to mind.)

A little sidenote:

This is a little animation I did using smart objects and the new Warp transformation. It's fairly ugly, but the point of it was to demonstrate another use of Smart Objects. I won't go into how it was done here,
